hey guys it's Monica at academic Phoenix plus them welcome to the next tutorial on how to make this environment look modern and hip so far we have created procedural shaders for the leather some textures for the wood we went over glass and now I think it's time to go a little bit further and add some fur so I really want to have like a shaggy fur carpet so I thought this would be a fun way to introduce you guys to fur so the first thing I need is geometry so I'm gonna go ahead and create a regular circle and bring it up just a little bit let's stretch it out so it's a little bit more of an oval and let's just focus on this so far so good so at the top here in your workspace there is a magic Maya classic which were all fond off but what's cool is that we actually have what's called an X Gen interactive groom so this is going to create a the attributes are going to be down here and up here at the top we have the x-gen room editor so with that we have our geometry selected and under modeling you're gonna see something that's called generate and under generate we can create a interactive groom spline which is exactly what we want so let's go ahead and click on that and right away we get this interesting looking pieces of geometry sticking out let's see what that looks like when we render it so you can see that it's it's looking like spikes and it's working but the reality is is that we need a lot more and they definitely need to be smaller the first thing you'll notice is that in the x-gene interactive groom editor we have a description and if we open up this little plus sign you're gonna see that we have sculpt and under that we have a sculpt layer we also have scale and we also have a description base so we're gonna play with a few of these the first thing we want to do is go to scale we want to decrease the scale so it's a little big the next thing we want to do is go to the description base and let's increase our density now be careful because that is a lot so just kind of keep an eye on how much fur you actually want so let me get in close and let's see what that looks like so it's starting to look really nice there's definitely a lot more fur but it still needs to be thinner because right now it's looking like cards instead of fur so what we want to do is go back into our description and right here we have a width scale or width scale is 0.1 now our scene is actually considered very small each of these units it's considered a centimeter so right now this is actually saying that this is point 1 which is basically point 105 centimeters so I in reality this should be scaled higher but let's go ahead and make this really thin so let's do point zero five and see what that looks like so you'll notice that the fur is starting to look a lot smaller which is great but we definitely did go a little less than that so let's do point zero zero nine now you're starting to notice that it's looking really really thin so my might do point is zero two and I'm gonna go back into my scale and increase my sky scale sorry go back into my description and increase the multiplier so I really need to have a lot more because there's so much fur now that and it's so thin that we want to make sure that it actually covers the rug so you'll notice that it's looking pretty nice it might go a little bit more cool it's looking really nice let's go ahead and press stop all right so let's see what else do we have you'll notice up here that we have these things called modifiers and modified my modifiers mean that we want to add to the descriptions so I'm sort of change to this now let me assign some sort of shader down here because but I just use a regular Lambert and I just don't want it to be gray I need it to be like that a color that's gonna match the carpet so let's do a little bit of a dark beige something like that and going back to this sorry I just wanted to make sure that now let's rename this this is gonna be rug shader and so now that when I render even though we may have some gaps in there at least it's gonna be covered by the shader by the fur and and if there's gaps you'll be able to kind of get away with it alright so now that we have that we're gonna go back to the description we're gonna add a modifier and we have a couple of options and the one that I want is called noise so right now it's looking like a lot of fur and now it's looking like it's scraggly and kind of noisy which is really what I want I want this to appear that it's a almost like a shaggy carpet so let's zoom out a little bit and see what that looks like so it's looking this is some really fast way of making grass as well if you're interested but going down the description you'll see that we now have noise so with the noise we can actually we can change the attributes so if you want it to be a little bit more frequent if you want the magnitude to be stronger there's a lot of things you can do with this noise but in general it's making this look a little bit more scraggly which is really what I'm looking for alright so let's change the color let's grab the fur or the description let's go to the hypershade and let's see we have our glass or chrome and then you'll notice that we have this thing called a hair physical the hair physical is exactly what's assigned to our object so I'm gonna go ahead and minimize that so if I change the route to let's say a red you'll notice that the route of the rug changes and if I close that and change the tip color to let's say pink and again I'm not gonna keep these colors but I'm just showing you basically what this is good against controlled so we can control the color of the base as well as the tip of the piece so in our case what I would like to do is get something a little bit Brown and then at the tip I would like a the similar color but lighter because I have a theme so let's look at that I might want to go a little lighter because I really want to make sure that it looks beige and let me lighten the bot a stew well let's go back to the bottom base open up the let's see or are we here's my rug shader I might need to make it a little lighter I think I have color similar to that so let's do that cool it's still looking really really tall which I need to fix gonna stop this render gonna go into my scale and reduce the scale even further so it doesn't have to be like I'm not trying to create a field of grass I actually just want to make it look like a fancy carpet all right let's take a look at the whole scene I'm gonna stop this I'm going to turn this off I think I need to grab this object get it to intersect the ground a little bit close my shader Network and let's get a better view I feel like it needs to be bigger let's scale it up now if I scale it up I might need to add more hair so I just keep that in mind that if I need to go into the description and give myself a little bit more hair I might have to so just keep that in mind at the bigger the more fuzzy it needs right I'm gonna stop that for a second and let's take a look at the hypershade again you can try to find the shader but it's faster to just grab it up here and let's see we got transparency we got ambient color we can incandescent if you want it to glow we also have highlights so right now it's white we have a second highlight we've got glint so there's a lot of really you can make it transmission so and there's other options as well so definitely play around with this I just wanted to show you base the basics but if you're interested in maybe increasing the ambient color let me close that and open it up again you can get some really interesting colors alright now the first highlight is white so if I changes to red you'll notice that the tips become red as well so if you want to you can change that highlight to a different color and yeah that's the basics of fur i'd highly recommend that you play around with more of the shaders it's a lot of fun but hopefully that gives you an idea of not only how to create fur and a shaggy carpet but that you can also create a grass or anything like that so i'm gonna try to take a nice render here let me stop that and maybe I can just frame it a little bit better there you go guys let me know what you think thank you so much for watching and listening I'd really appreciate all the support that you have given me if you guys want to take a look at academic phoenix plus calm that's what you provide more tutorials free ebooks free trainings and also free downloads so take a look at academic phoenix plus comm and also don't forget to like and share this video if you feel like this video is helpful for somebody then it's looking to figure out a little bit of that fur this would be a wonderful tutorial for them so again thank you so much for listening we know of you guys have any questions and I will see you in the next tutorial
