Quick Tip #3: Replace Audio in Video in Cubase

hi guys Alex here today it's a request uh how I replace the audio in a video file in Q base um by that I show how I first import how I Lay My stems here and then how I replace audio so in this project I started with importing the video file with the audio and that is simple done by Import in the file menu video file and then you just check where the file is and here know I have this video and it's important if you want of course it's no nor what you want that you extract the audio from the video file on a separate track so this import the video on one track and then the audio in the another track exactly what I have done here you see I have one track for that I rename to dialogue as this is the dialog of the video and then one track with a video and if you go in the project setup what is necessary to do is to set the frame rate right for the video I normally press this get from video so on this is not maybe necessary right now but if you want to synchronize markers in the audio towards the right uh frames so it's important that you're on on track with the video file so let's let's just listen to the video and open the video file by F f8 and let have a listen and have a look here as well Harold is the coffee all right m i mean it's as bad as yesterday mhm no improvement at all M Harold don't just shake your head you've got to tell me what's wrong with the coffee and it's ongoing here and let's go further so it's an old commercial of f just coffee um so what I did I laid some some inter music uh here in the beginning of the track then I have some kind of hook some jingle here when the first time we seen the F Just Coffee commercial and then some kind of end part here in the end so let's just have a listen everything together the dialogue and the music music together just to see what this is and how the end product should look like or sound like better Harold is the coffee all right mm I mean it's as bad as yesterday M no improvement at all M Harold don't just shake your head you've got to tell me what's wrong with the coffee bad taste now what am I going to do oh Mary hi hello Jane listen help me out well you Harold hates my coffee what kind do you use instant folders instant folders tastes good as fresh perk good as fresh perk I'll try it Jean this coffee is delicious do you know that M it's not the same kind we've been using is it m don't just shake your head explain why the coffee is so good good good taste tastes good as fresh perked instant folders yeah that was everything so what we want now to do is of course when we deliver this one uh to a website or to a to the commercial company we want to deliver first of all the music stamps of course and of course we want to have a snapshot of the how how does it look like and how does it sounds so what we will do is of course we need to print this or make the audio mix down of everything so first we set the locators by pressing P here that means setting left and right locators of the length of the dialogue we can do even on the video the same length and you see that you have nothing unmuted that you have everything in place and first of all you need to make an audio mix down this one so uh let's choose the folder I use desktop for for uh it's easy folders coffee audio I can call it for easy and then let's just check the bit rate I had 16 bit so I want to export it for as well the 16 bit here wave file it's stereo and the stereo output and then if I have for example several stems and I want every stem for itself I can just check this one so I get what I normally do when I Supply the stems instead of the total mix down but now we want to have the mix down that means dialogue mixed together with music in one way file that's called folders so we exported it just let's take like 15 seconds so now it's finished so the wave file is written to the dis and let's just check the double safety here it's the original movie we just double check if it's really the original yeah Harold is the coffee no music on it and then here we have the audio file Harold is the coffee all right and it's mixed the dialogue end so now I want to replace the audio in that one and for that one we have the nice command here replace audio and video file that we will use so it's in cubis is a two-step method in in uh Pro Tools you can do it in one step you Rend it directly in into the video file but here the twostep method is no big no big deal so first on the top it says select the video take that video open it and then the next question is select the audio file and that is the stem we're writing we made a mix on on second time and now we're replacing it was just like one second and if we at this file double flick and check it Harold is the coffee all right I mean it's is bad that is working and even if you like open with VC or quick time it's the same result is the coffee all right m i mean it's as bad as yesterday mhm no improvement at all m-m Harold don't just shake
