what's up everybody welcome back to celiac quilting everyone loves a good jelly roll quilt so let me show you how to make this one right here let's get started now the best part with this being a jelly roll quilt most of the cuttings are even done for you the thing that you're going to have to do is you're going to take your jelly roll open it up and you want to separate into three different color orders you'll take your lights your mediums and your darks i'll give you an example here i've got my dark strip here i've got a light strip here and i would call this my medium strip now from here you're going to sew your strips together in a certain order very simple though you want your darkest pieces to be right in the middle now i'm going to take one from my stack here i'm going to take my light my dark and my medium i'm going to sew them all the way down and together so i'm going to take these right sides together i'm going to sew all the way down and i'm going to do this for all of my strips so i have strip sets of three toned together so now the next step is to sew on my next piece which i'm going to line it up here with my darkest print here again you want the darkest print in the center back over the sewing machine and sew all the way down [Music] now take this over the ironing board iron everything super super flat and do that to all of your strips inside your jelly roll so i've gone ahead ironed down my strip sets all the way down and i grabbed a different stretch set because i already used the other one for the quilt but the next step is to mark a 60 degree line on the end of your fabric strips here now you can do this if you have a ruler that has a 60 degree line or pull out a 60 degree triangle ruler i find that to be the easiest way to do that then you're going to grab some chalk or whatever you like to do with mark and you're going to mark right on that line this line is going to give you the guide for your strip from here you're going to take your ruler now and you're going to make all your cuts based off of that one line it is super super important that that line is a 60 degree line so double check and triple check to make sure you have a 60 degree line then we're going to be cutting four and a half inch strips so i'm going to use my ruler here line up my line with my four and a half inch mark so go ahead and make that cut here and on your very first cut you're still going to have your chalk line mark what i'm going to do is i'm going to just lay this down and cut that off now that way i know i'm already good i already have my reference point everything's good just like that so you should end up with these diamond looking shapes here i'm going to continue this process everything's going to be four and a half inch cuts so i'm gonna lay it down on the four and a half inch line and make sure that the edge of your ruler passes the top of your strip set here so another one and i'm gonna do this to all of my strips so just like that i've cut down my strip sets now it's time to make the next cut very simple to do here we're going to grab our piece and we're going to turn this piece into a square it's very easy to do so now it's time to trim these down to be four and a half inch blocks what i'm going to do is right here on this blue point here i'm going to line up my four and a half inch mark so just like that [Music] and then i'm going to line up my top here which then will give me a perfect square in the end so what i'm going to do is i'm going to cut here just like so now i have to turn everything around to give me my next marking here but again line it up with that four and a half inches line up both sides and you have a really nice reference point so it will be really simple to do which then will leave you with a perfect four and a half inch square so i'm going to do this to all my blocks again using the blue side as my reference point for everything that way it stays very consistent again lay it down right here on this point there i'm going to line up my four and a half inch mark line up with the top of my fabric and cut there turn the whole thing around line up my left side with the four and a half inch mark make sure i'm squared up real nice i'm going to go ahead and do that to all of my strips [Music] now that i've gone ahead and cut down my strip sets it's time to assemble the block very simple to do all you're going to do is make sure that your colored or your medium tone here is all pointing towards the middle making up the block now we're going to flip them right sides together and sew them together let me give this a nice finger press here opening up that seam same here right sides together now the most important part of this whole entire block is making sure all four points come into the center that way nothing looks wonky or off so i'm going to take the extra second here line everything up just like that your quilt block is done now you can go ahead and check it for square if it's a little bit off go ahead and square it up but as far as assembling of the quilt you're just going to go ahead and put all your blocks together in rows and then rows into your quilt we went ahead too and we had a couple extra pieces of our jelly roll we went ahead and bordered it all the way around but if you want to make this quilt any larger go ahead and grab a second jelly roll and it will double in size and so on and so forth as always if you've liked this video hit the like button subscribe to our channel and don't be afraid to share it with your friends
