these are all features and settings you need to know about in the Blackmagic camera app let's [Music] go so here's the main screen let's get started on the top left over here we have our ability to choose whatever lenses is on our phone so on my phone I have three different lenses in the back and I also have access to the front-facing lens which is what I'm using right now next up we have your frames per second so you can choose anything from 24 frames even the ntsc 24 frames all the way up to 60 frames a second in 4k next we have our shutter speed so I'm currently in the photography mode specifically so because I'm shooting in 24 frames a second I'm at currently 148 of a second shutter speed however for the cinematographers out there if you go into your settings and you go into your camera you actually can go to shutter measurement and change it to shutter angle so now it's going to say 180° shutter speed so no matter when you switch your frames per second to 60 frames a second you're always going to have the right motion blur next up we have our ISO so very self-explanatory you can pull it down you can pull it up and in which case I was sitting somewhere around 300 very self-explanatory in terms of your ISO adjustments next we have our white balance So currently I'm on auto which is what I would suggest because if you're not on auto and want to dial it in it doesn't necessarily look all that great and if you use the presets The Tint suddenly goes up to 10 what I've noticed is if you just leave it on auto it does a good job and specifically if you go into your settings go into your camera again you want to lock your white balance on record so whatever the white balance happens to be wherever situation you are in the moment you hit record it's going to lock it in it's not going to change on you and you should be fine for most sit situations next let's take a look at your tool sets so that's going to be right up here and the first one is zebras so if we turn it on you'll notice that the zebras show up and we have the ability to change the threshold to whatever we like as of version 1.1 of this app the moment you hit the record button these zebras are going to disappear and when you stop recording they'll reappear hopefully they're going to fix this in a future app so that it stays on for the entire duration next we have our aspect ratios for people that want those anamorphic crop bars so we can go ahead and turn that on and as you can see there is an anamorphic bar to help us with our Framing and if you don't want to see all this stuff here all you have to do is click and swipe and there you go now do keep in mind that these crop bars are not going to be baked in this is just to help you for framing next we have our false color which is located right over here so as I turn it on you'll notice that everything looks really weird but this is just to help you with exposure and if we take a look at this little Legend graph over here we want to keep our darkest darks somewhere in the pink than most of us in the light gray and at most we're going to go into the yellow but we don't want to go into the red as long as you keep yourself Within These parameters your image will look pretty much the way it should be the last thing is using monitoring L if you're shooting an Apple log so right down here I have it currently turned on but if I turn it off this is what Apple log looks like so I'm going to turn it on for now to get a lot to your phone you're going to have to either airdrop it to yourself email it download it get it into the Apple's file and then you're going to go into your settings Luts go to Lut selection and you're going to want to load one and if you've downloaded it then it's going to be somewhere in your downloads folder right here select it open it and it'll show up in this section so go ahead and click the one you want to load and that way when you go back to your camera when you turn this lot on and off that's the lot it's going to be using moving on down the line the next one is our autofocus So currently it's on auto so if I move my hand close to the camera you'll notice that it's starting to move and then when I take it away it pulls Focus back if you want a manual focus go ahead and turn that off and you have free range to pull Focus how you would like and if you want some help with focus peaking go back to your tools the second one down is focus peaking you can turn it on and you can show how much intensity you want now as a version 1.1 the focus peaking will disappear when you hit the record button so hopefully in the next update that won't be the case now we're going to skip this because the exposure compensation is just your ISO not a big deal we go down to our our image stabilization of the phone so right now I have it on off but if I want to turn it on it's going to crop in just a little bit and now the footage will be a little bit smoother you also have cinematic and extreme and I believe this is when they start using some electronic image stabilization to try to get your image to look even more steady but standard actually does a good job and if you're on a tripod then go ahead and turn it off so you can get much wider field of view next up is our zoom function which is going to be right over here and I put air quotes on because this is a digital Zoom which means depending on which lens you're using and which sensor you might be able to go to 2x but anything beyond that it's going to start looking very digitally and mushy so this is not a true optical zoom and so far it's not using Apple's own ability to switch from lens to lens as you're zooming hopefully that's going to come in an update but just so you know that you can zoom in just a a little bit if you need to that's it for the main screen now let's go into the settings real quick here in the settings the record menu is pretty self-explanatory we get to choose our codec if you have an older phone which I believe is like an iPhone 12 or lower you're only going to get h.265 and h.264 if you have a 13 Pro or higher then you should have access to prores I don't think 13 regulars have it but at least 13 Pro and 14 pro should have this next we choose our res solution for the most part all of us are going to be shooting 4K but if you don't have a whole lot of space you can choose 1080P or 720p next we have our color space if you have the iPhone 15 pro pro Max or higher you'll have access to Apple log HDR or pretty much just Apple log otherwise you're just going to have Rec 709 Rec 2020 and Cinema P3 generally speaking if you don't want to do a whole lot of color grading just choose re 79 or P3 D6 65 if you do want to flut around with the colors then go with Rec 2020 as this is going to require some more work next is your time code display I would set it to record to run instead of time of day because with record to run you can see how long you've been recording next let's take a look at the camera portion so this is pretty much everything you should have set up I enable vertical video so that if I do have an vertical orientation it will record a vertical video rather than just a cropped 16x9 I have lens correction on so that I don't get any weird warping I like to use my volume button to trigger the record I lock my white balance which I've already told you about the mirror front-facing camera doesn't currently work in version 1.1 but it should in the future to also make sure I know I'm recording I have my trigger record button to beep at me and Flash the LED in the front of the camera next we have our audio tab we can choose what microphones we want to use depending on if we've plugged anything into our phone I have my road video mic plugged in so I can use that if I want to or I can go back to the internal microphone if you're recording a split stereo file then you're going to want to record as a stereo file otherwise you can choose mono dual mono and even up to four channels lastly is your sample rate you can choose 44.1 but generally speaking leave it at 48 as that's going to match pretty much everything else in the monitoring tab the only thing you should really know about is the HDMI out so if you're plugging this to an internal monitor you can do a clean feed if you just want to see the video only or you can have some basic static text laid over very similar to what you see in this camera app or if you want to mimic an actual camera where there's going to be black bars so you can really see all the details you can do this setting in the media tab there's only one setting you need to be aware of and that is save Clips to if you want to save it onto your phone in the Apple file structure go to inapp only and it'll be in the Blackmagic folder under media if you want to be in the apps structure as well as the photo library for quick accessing you can do it this way but for people that are going to record it externally and edit on a computer you're going to want to go into files here once you've connected your own USB hard drive of any sorts it'll show up right here go ahead and click on it and open it and therefore all your files will be recorded into your external hard drive if you want to learn more about the Blackmagic camera app or just mobile film making in general I got some more videos for you right [Music] here
