today's video we are going to solve the Blackmagic  camera's biggest problem or at least the biggest   lacking feature in my opinion remote monitoring  by the way this video is not sponsored however   it is supported by all of you who buy my iPhone  film making guides or crash course into Da Vinci   resolve thanks everyone in the community who has  joined and if you're interested in learning more   check out the link in the description all righty  black match camera we all love it it's great one   of my favorite use cases for Apple log and the  iPhone has become mounting my phone just out of   frame right here on my mic stand so I can get  a nice top down shot but then I'm constantly   standing up and got to make sure you know the  framing is right it's still recording the phone   hasn't died or the most annoying thing about  filming with a phone is someone makes a phone   call which stops recording so if you're doing a  really long take like a talking head like this   which can be 20 or 30 minutes my anxiety just  builds over time and every few minutes I'm just   checking but I would love a setup like this for  my main angle obviously I have my camera plugged   into this nice 15-in monitor I can make sure I'm  in Focus I can see that I'm still recording and I   can just go about my entire video without having  to worry enter in other monitors like an iPad now   for years now anyone who has enjoyed filmic Pro  and a couple other video Pro apps has enjoyed   a remote monitoring feature but for the rest of  us as we wait patiently for hopefully Blackmagic   to integrate this feature directly into the app I  wanted to come up with some Creative Solutions and   I've been testing out a bunch over recent weeks  and I want to share all the different options for   you so first up we're going the easiest thing  possible which is airPlay and let me tell you   if you Google this solution Google's going to lie  to you so many articles have been created because   they misread Apple's support document so if your  solution is not an iPad and it is just a Apple TV   or a Mac this is very simple I can swipe down from  the top right I see these two little rectangles on   top of each other that is going to be our screen  mirror mirroring and then you can just pick   whichever device you can see I have a couple Apple  TVs living room and I have my MacBook Pro so if we   see right here screen mirroring is turned on and  now everything it it's just it's screen mirroring   I can open up the Blackmagic camera app and right  now it's set to a clean feed mirror display there   we go now we have all of our different uh status  texts and whatnot now if you're like me and you   really just want to use an iPad because it happens  to be a device I have nearby but don't let all   these articles fool you you cannot screen mirror  airPlay from a phone to another iPhone or to an   iPad you just can't do it unfortunately I don't  really know why so you need to use an app and let   me tell you if you search AirPlay or screen  mirroring apps in the App Store you'll get a   bunch of results and uh pretty much all of them  are horrible a lot of them have security issues   based on the reviews where they either uh sell  your data that you log in with they save your   screen recordings just a lot of sketchy stuff so  proceed with caution with any of these apps but   for me the biggest thing is they've all seemed  to hop on the bandwagon of horrible subscription   prices like I'm all for paying for a subscription  if something continuously has new features updates   and is just truly essential for like an ongoing  amount of period but way too many apps both in   this category and every have completely taken  advantage of subscription pricing and uh we'll   see that here but if you want to use an app if you  want to airPlay from an iPhone to an iPad this in   my opinion is the best solution so this app right  here a power mirror screen mirroring it's both   available on the phone and the iPad natively so  you get proper screen sizes and the reason that I   like this is because it is the most reliable it's  the fastest and technically you can set it up and   test it out for free a lot of them you could even  get past the setup screen without paying at least   $20 or more for a monthly or annually reoccurring  subscription cost remember I said there's no   Unicorn app so there's a kicker to this one all  right so the main reason that I end up liking   this is because it's incredibly easy to set up we  have the app open on the iPad I'll open it up on   the phone here I'm going to hit local cast which  just means that it's going to be on the same Wi-Fi   network when I hit here I can see the iPad I just  hit start broadcast obviously if I want to go to   the reverse I would just do this on the reverse  device uh and then that's it we're casting so   now I can simply just go to the Blackmagic camera  app so now you can see that we're mirroring and   honestly the latency isn't really that bad now the  reason I like this app is because again I haven't   paid for anything you're probably going to get  some popups uh not really ads but just trying to   get you to pay for the VIP upgrade uh subscription  you'll also notice right here at the the top of   the screen it's really tiny for you but this is  a countdown clock so you get 10 minutes access of   this for free and you can do up to 1080p for free  and once this 10 minutes is up it's basically just   going to give you a screenshot of like hey your  times up go ahead and pay for this here now for   those who are going to follow up and ask can you  just end it and then like restart it and have it   do its thing once this timer ended I tried that  and it didn't like tell me yes or no it kind of   just didn't show up as an option to airplay  to the iPad uh for a little bit I don't have   an exact amount of time maybe that was just a bug  maybe you can go right back in but for me it kind   of looks like it just took it off the list of air  playable devices and then uh it's been a couple   hours since I came back down here and I can do  it again so in theory it's not like 10 minutes   and then you're done forever uh it looks like  to some capacity you can kind of just restart   the timer similar to I think like Zoom calls where  you get like 30 minutes for free and then you have   to pay for it or something like that but this  is honestly the option that I've kind of been   doing in terms of the apps but again if I go into  VIP upgrade yeah I'll take a screenshot of this   on sale for 60 bucks it says buy three get three  bonus and if you click you know continue by now   it says buy threeyear membership get 3 years free  so 6 years but at the bottom it says $60 onetime   charge which means it's not an annual thing or  apple doesn't have a way to hey in 3 years I'm   going to charge you again so based on this it's  just 60 bucks and then you own it so if that price   is worth it to you then this seems like a pretty  solid app so if you're going to use it a ton and   you feel like you'll get $60 worth of value out of  it here you go so we've talked about airplaying to   a Mac or an Apple TV we've talked about using  apps and the kind of the pros and cons of that   and finally the other one is going to be more of  a Hardline functionality all you need to do is   get yourself a USBC to some sort of HDMI adapter  so this is a little anchor multihub I actually   grabbed it from my ultimate iPhone 15 Pro setup  uh guide and then this I could just plug into the   bottom and now I have a full size HDMI port that I  could just plug in a cable there plug it straight   into again a monitor like the one I'm using for  this camera a smaller camera monitor or a giant   TV whatever you want so of all these different  solutions what are your favorites again obviously   any day now I would love to see the Blackmagic  camera app updated with this functionality built   right in so I can install a remote app or the  Blackmagic camera app on my iPad or another   phone and then just use that as a monitor but  until then we got to get a little creative so   hopefully you all enjoyed this video make sure  you get subscribed so you don't miss out check   out some of my other Blackmagic camera app videos  over here and I'll see you guys in the next video
