do you love the look of handmade paper but you probably think it takes way too much time and effort to make it well I think so too so stay tuned because I want to share with you how you can make handmade paper in no time this is something new and different it's not a traditional method and it's so much easier hi everyone it's drag from cebo welcome and welcome back to my channel before we start with this experiment or a tutorial I just want to show you my results first I've been experimenting for a few days since the last video which was 15 different ways of using your scraps for Junk journals the very last idea I mentioned was making handmade paper and it made me realize how much I like the look of handmade paper but also how much time and effort it is to make it and it's not just the time it's actually labor intensive so I thought there must be a different way of replenishing my stash of handmade paper without me going through all that trouble of making it and usually I make handmade paper with scraps of paper but this time I decided to try something else and I tried with a recycled napkins or the parts of the napkins that we normally don't use in a decupage first some plain paper look at that it's really nice and almost like Fabric and you can make it thinner or thicker it's easy I will explain how this one is with coffee stain has a little hint I use coffee instead of water and that's what I ended up with I absolutely love and I love that effect that it got from the coffee because more coffee was obviously around the edges than in the middle then I made some white thicker ones that's almost like C stock look how thick that [Music] is that as well then I've experimented with adding bits and pieces of flowers and leaves there's some with petals some more leaves that's a really thick one then this one some seeds this is a nice thin one but I really like the ones where I used coffee I hope you can see that it's thin but it's also much tougher than it was when it was just a napkin okay and then I experimented with um textures so here I used some embossing folders that's a good one with the brown napkin and the wood embosser then that one that's just with some mesh that's with towels it turned out a bit soft and that with the one section of the plastic tablecloth and then I also experimented with adding just the colored napkins or the parts that are like the middle section of a napkin that are kind of really pale and I tried thinner ones and thicker ones and I think even the thin ones like this look really nice and they can definitely be used to draw or stamp or glue things even find in the journal and they are made with napkins and when I say napkins usually they come in two or three PES and I prefer to take that use it in a different project and I use those two SCE for this experiment preferably I would use just the white part most of the time I use the white part but in some instances I use the middle one as well like in this one here you can see that was with the middle that as well that's why it has a bit of blue and that but this is now again totally up to you that's with the middle p paper and that as well plus the coffee okay so the two PES of the napkin that you would normally discard after doing decupage they are the ones that we are going to recycle to make these paper so there'll be no paper shredding no paper soaking and no blending the paper no traditional method all right so we're not going to use that this is going to be a lot quicker and a lot easier way to create handmade paper and there'll be no glue so you know we have that method where we use napkins with glue to create full handmade paper look and I've done that video as well you're welcome to check it out if you haven't it gives a really nice result and I'll just give you an example here's one example of the full handmade Botanical paper look as you can see there's two or three PES I think it's three PES of napkins with plants trapped in a the middle and I used PVA glue and if you haven't seen that video I will link it down below and I just want to show you the difference between those two okay this is much more wrinkled has a lot of texture it tends to be a little bit shiny on the back because of the glue but this is like real paper actually almost in a way like a really stiff fabric I don't know how to explain I hope you can see the difference there so that's the fux handmade paper with Botanical and that's the handmade paper with Botanical but without the glue so it's matte it's much flatter and it's different texture and different feel this is thicker and tougher this is also tough but more like a paper tff because there's no glue all right just want to quickly show you two examples of these papers in a journal I have this one in this journal here this journal still work in progress It's not bound so that is the paper and as you can see I used the middle part of the ne napkin that had some of the faint print on it and then I stamped this bird and it's tough enough to be found in the journal got this one again I used some stencil work with inks I stamped that then I stitched it to this paper with glue and some machine stitching and I plan to glue that inside of the journal I haven't glued it because I haven't trimmed the side yet so I don't know how to place it correctly but it does look very nice and even on the edges sometimes these layers tend to separate a little bit and I absolutely love that I should probably tell you what we're going to use apart from the napkins I don't know if you have guessed or not maybe from the title we are going to be using sizzix again so it's another sizzix hack just like when we did with Eco printing method and because my cutting plates look terrible they're all kind of scratched and warped I can still use them for this anyway we're going to have some fabric as well so it's not that important if your plates are looking like this you can still do this but I decided to invest in a new set of plates that I plan to use just for my Botanical prints and for making this handmade paper paper so I'm not going to be doing any cutting with these ones look how nice they are nice and clean and flat so I'm going to be using sizzix as the main tool to create these papers okay you will also need two pieces of fabric that are approximately the size of your plate so if you have sizzix or any of these embossing machines doesn't have to be sizzix there are Brands as well if you have a larger one and you want to do bigger papers you can certainly do that and then in that case have a larger piece of fabric so it has to be the size of the cutting plates if it's bigger it's going to get jammed inside of your sizzix okay and you need two of those all right and you're going to need a spray bottle of some sort that can fit at least one cup of liquid okay so you need that if you decide to make some of these papers as Botanicals you will need some dried plant material and I would suggest get things that are smaller or even take apart the petals don't use big chunks because it doesn't really look great I have to go back to my examples here now in this one it so have worked because these leaves were pressed really hard and they were thin and for some reason it it worked it worked here as well and there but in here I used larger rose petals I don't know if you can see but it seems to be a lot of air trapped especially on this side so I don't know it's totally up to you you do whatever you want to do but I would go with smaller and like in this instance here I think this one turned out really good I use these yellow flowers and smaller leaves and bits so it worked all right if you decide to put one large leaf in the middle I don't think it would work without the glue it definitely won't work if you decide that you want to make some of these like texture um napkins or papers you will need one of these okay for these ones then over here which I absolutely love I hope you can see this texture I basically used this mesh thing I don't even know where it came from but it worked really well to get that effect then for this effect I used towel but with towels you end up with a softer paper and I think these would be separating easily so I would have to definitely do the sewing around or even maybe add a little bit of glue here and there that's all right and then with this one I took AP part one of the plastic tablecloths that was in these sections so I took one of these and I placed it here to emboss this one and I really love how it turned out I hope you can see that is from that okay so something to leave the impression on if you decide to do the textured one and the last ingredient that I haven't used from the start I must say I started with just plain water and then I thought how about if I add a bit of starch and first in one of the batches in these batches look how thick that is and it has a lot of layers I used ironing spray with starch the one that you spray your shirts before you iron to make them crisp and the result is really amazing and you can even draw on that it's really smooth surface like you wouldn't be able to really draw on on a napkin see how soft it is and it's super absorbent with this one it's not I guess the starch made it be less absorbent so it's really nice and then I used up all of the spray and it was really cold and snowing and I didn't really want to go to the shops to get some more but I found this uh corn starch in my kitchen you know the stuff that you use to thicken your sauces as you can see that the spoon is still inside and I thought why don't I just make some starch by myself and I did that it worked just as well thin ones I used handmade iring starch okay and then when I looked at them and I think oh my gosh they look so white I wish there was a way way to dye them and have them like brown or something but if I was to to spray that now I don't know how it would react maybe it would fall apart so I thought how about if I make the starch with my coffee instead of water I need to spray this with coffee while I'm working instead of plain water but if I wanted to make it a bit tougher I will just add starch to my coffee and that's how I ended up here with these papers that I absolutely love and I'm going to show you that method but I'm saying if you don't want brown paper if you want white papers use water instead of coffee I actually love this look and I love that color so I'm going to use coffee having said that if you happen to have some other dyes in different colors like in the pink or blue or green whatever you might as well try and experiment if I had some avocado dye ready I would have tried for pink papers but just for the sake of doing this easy and simple so that you can understand the basics I'm going to do it with coffee and for this to dissolve I think the coffee should be warm okay so now I have here just black coffee it's still warm since this morning so I'm just going to to add one cup of coffee actually I'm going to put the starch first and I've been putting one heat teaspoon okay maybe a bit more because this is a small teaspoon okay if you put more I don't think you'll be wrong you might get good results but your spray bottle might not appreciate it if you know what I mean this is hot it's not boiling hot but it's hot okay okay okay so you just mix this now it looks like white coffee anyway the starch will tend to settle down the bottoms so trust me because I've already ruined two of these before you spray every time just shake it otherwise it will collect just the corn starch from the bottom and it will get stuck here and you won't be able to use the spray bottle anymore and yeah so just you'll have to just keep doing this all the time okay and when you mix make sure this is closed otherwise it will spray all over your spot I just did that and I'm going to edit that part of the video because it's ridiculous I had coffee everywhere all right now this will create a little bit of mess so it's good to have handy like a piece of old cloth or towel to wipe the excess off because it does get um you know you just like when you dye papers it will get a bit messy okay so I take the napkin let's just make a plain one so I take the napkin and you can if you wanted to cut the napkins to the size of your fabric but honestly I'm always trying to do things the easiest possible way where I can skip certain steps I would and I don't feel like cutting so I'm just going to start spraying like this and folding it so now I'm going to fold in here again how you fold it will depend of the size of your plate or your napkin okay so I'm just going to spray that and then I'm going to fold this in okay spray a little bit more keep mixing it and I'm going to take another one because I want to create more of these papers that I've shown you that I really like so now I want to start because I've folded the smaller part here I want to start the opposite way because now I have here the napkin only to the middle and I really want to hide that part where they join in the middle I don't want that to be on the top if you know what I mean so I'm going to fold like that okay and then I'm going to fold on that side and this will give me a nice smooth finish now I'm going to take the other piece of fabric just going to place that over I'll just wipe this mess that I made quickly now now get your scissors take your one plate and place that you'll see better like this okay okay I have all of these Platforms in okay and then you just squeeze through have a look here the excess coffee is already being pushed out so it is going to make a bit of mess here you can do this to collect it and perhaps that is why these papers dry faster I just go like twice it's probably enough all right let's have a look let's have a look what we've done so you slowly peel off the fabric making sure you don't actually catch the napkin and take the other one and there it is your paper so I've prepared on another desk just some old piece of tablecloth and I'm just going to place it flat and let it dry okay so isn't that so much easier than the usual traditional method I think it is and it will give me interesting papers for my journal and I'll be able to even stamp on them and maybe draw on them as well and I love the color for the second one I want to show you how to make make the Botanical one okay we start the same hope you can see this properly again you see how that settles just shake it up a bit it's important that all the corners are sprayed well otherwise that's where the separation of the paper later on actually happens around the corner Corners because we tend to spray more in the middle and less in the corners okay just folding this inside you can also just leave that and cut it off but I think there's no harm in putting it all there and it just gives that nice look okay and now I'm going to start here again Shake um one thing I forgot to mention is that not all napkins are the same quality these ones I just noticed are kind of very thin so if you see that they're thin and they don't give you good results you can repeat this several times and have more layers and have it thicker just like in those examples that I've shown you but after experimenting a few times I found this to be what I like doesn't mean that you might not like a thicker paper or even thinner one it's you know it's up to you you just experiment until you get the ones that actually look good to you so now we add plants let's see what we can do here I think I have this I think this is from hazelnut uh tree this is how it flowers and it's got these little like seeds and I'm just going to sprinkle that a little bit I will remove this Shar bits sprinkle that I haven't made any with these okay let's add some of these tiny flowers oh they're so cute seem to be really flat okay now so you also don't want to go overboard with this I think we need a little bit of Green Day so I'm just going to get some leaves from here because they're nice and small just few okay now you have to add one more layer because this is not going to stay like that you have to put a layer or even two of napkins on top and now I don't do the folding in this instance I just cut the napkin to the size because I don't want to end up with that um line where they join I would have to then repeat the whole thing twice and these won't be visible then and cut off like that and you can use that later to make a smaller piece of this paper and now this is totally up to you like you can't really spray on top of this because it's going to disperse basically so you can either put just one but I find if I put just one sometimes that one tends to stick to the fabric and then peels off and I just destroy everything so I've been putting two again it all depends of the napkins if they're better quality napkins you might get away with just one but these are really thin so I'm just going to put two okay and then we put the fabric again this is just some old bed sheets that I use for paper making okay so it's like cotton muslin okay let's put that okay just going to W this and get my sizzix and here we go look at that excess moisture all right and I'm going to do it once more and we're going this way now have to be careful here okay so far so good going to turn it the other way again it seems to be all right the paper looks really nice and flat okay I'm going to let it dry let's make one with texture same as before [Music] it just occurred to me that perhaps you can make a like embossed texture with stencils as well and I'm going to try that I haven't tried this I was going to use that one but I've already tried and I know it's going to work but I have no idea if this is going to work and I really want to try so I'm just going to place it there and then I'm going to put the fabric over okay [Music] that [Music] I'm so excited to see the result okay take that need to lift this off it did work it even transferred some of the color I guess the stencil wasn't really clean okay and yeah okay I quickly want to show you how to do this if you have embossing folders for example like this one I'm not sure maybe you know this method but in case you don't yeah and you can also use it with a rolling pin rather than the sizzix if you don't have sizzix I'm seriously considering getting a larger sizzix than this one but the only shop that used to um sell them here don't have them anymore they don't have them in stock and they said they stop importing them but I'll find a way to get it from Amazon if they decide to post things to bosia okay so now that I've sprayed I just have to do the same thing as we did before before with spraying in between just spray think I'm going to get one more eight layers Al together because I'm going to use two napkins all right just want to make sure that I can fold it there I think I can all right I'm going to cut this because otherwise it's going to get jammed I might as well just cut this I'm going to use these ones the old ones cuz I don't want to damage the new ones and I'm supposed to take that one out it's going to be a bit harder but it should work so much coffee oo got to put this cloth there let's have a look so far so good lovely I think it emboss it perfectly I'm just going to put it to dry for this last example I want to show you how you can fuse whatever napkin you have especially if it's like this one it's not a pattern that covers the whole page so I'm going to use just a section I'm going to P it here I might just take the the sharp edges it just looks much better if it just Blends in okay have that ready and I'll put it aside now I'm going to do the same thing as I've been [Music] doing all right now the final part I spray again over and then I put this all right and I get the piece of [Music] fabric so excited to see this one love [Music] it I'm back the following day yesterday the papers have dried but it was already dark and the lighting was not sufficient to do the video and I basically placed the papers inside of this Sketchbook and then I put something heavy on top so let's have a look there should be in here I just like to flatten them further in the book there is that one I I think it's just really nice right and here is our Botanical one that's on that side and that is on this side here we used two more layers so it is a little bit thicker than this one and I really love it it really merged well okay here is the one that we embossed with a stencil there's a bit of line showing here but that's all right I guess it's darker on this side than on that side I have no idea why I used white napkins and I sprayed with coffee so I can't really explain other than the fact that maybe this was a different brand of napkin the one that absorbs more and I have a bit of a thread stuck in here which basically gives me idea that maybe instead of having those um plants and leaves I could also do some fibers of threads in between layers that might look interesting too all right and this one I love this one look how well that merged with the paper it really looks like it's part of it and not a separate layer I really love this it's basically Glu the ne napkins without the glue I guess although one might argue that starch is a type of glue really basic one but it doesn't have that stickiness it doesn't have the shine I'm very happy with these results well there it is a different way of making handma paper in no time I hope you enjoy this video and I hope you got inspired thank you so much for watching and I hope I see you soon in my next video bye for now
