Quartersawing with our hybrid technique

hi folks welcome to our sawmill today we're going to show you how we quarter-sawed any log that's too big to do all on the bandsaw we're gonna break it open with Lucas mill come on down around this and it'll show you a little drawing I've done we're going to this a 26 inch we're going to skim the top off and drop in eight inches and just rift saw the boards out of here with the Lucas mill there they're a low-value board time is of the essence so we're just going to crank them right out of there and then this can't from the center of the log going to go eight-and-a-half inches wide by eight inches deep we're going to take this Kant over the bandsaw and resaw it and by doing that we're going to get one extra four quarter board but from the bandsaw then we would just sawing with Lucas mill and in high-value material we think it's worth the time it takes to make that switch and get it out and then that camp will be gone and we'll continue riff sawing out the side of this log imagine now this part of this log is gone we'll flip it over do the same thing down here and same procedure riffs on off the edges bandsaw re-sod quarter saw out of the camp from the middle then we've got this piece in the center and I'll show you all these steps as we go through here we're going to do here take chalk line and chalk it from the pith here to the fifth down at the other end and rip it with chain saw you'll be amazed how fast that really ends up being opening this log up the chain saw and then we'll take this whole cat and this whole can on the bandsaw it up skim the bark off measure whatever we get we might get we might get some 10-inch borders on boards out of here and again Vance saw that quarter-sawn this has got a pretty good hard crack in it we may not get a full ten inches we may only get an eight but it's a technique that we're kind of developing and liking now that we've got the bandsaw to augment what the Louisville can do we're going to get started making some sawdust and Terry the camera lady here she'll takes pictures hope it makes sense to you thanks you you you you you you you you you okay we're going to snap a chalk line down Center this dog still don't end up with a cut it doesn't matter just waste wood in the middle of that log anyway so that's how we do it just to make sure we're close to the truth Oh you
