[Music] [Music] hi there everyone welcome to today's qgis tutorial lesson 9. in this video we'll learn how to use the qgs resource sharing plugin if you haven't subscribed to my channel please do so so that you can get a notification when i upload the next lesson if you are new to my channel you can follow all my previous lessons from the links in the description below let's get started this plugin makes it possible to share all types of resources in qgis that is from the library of symbols the styles the images and then scripts this also allows you to have more cool icons and symbols for your map so examples that you're going to actually be looking at are the humanitarian symbols the animal track symbols the nautical symbols the flow map arrows the road sign symbol and the health and safety actually many many more kinds of symbols like for example the camping symbols the communication symbols the service available symbols but you're not going to go through all that you'll do it on your own so let's go to qgis and see how we're going to use these qg's resource sharing plugin the first thing we're going to do is we're going to install the plugin how to install the plugin we'll go to plugin manage and install plugins wait for it to fetch all the depositories then we'll come to all then search for the qgis resource sharing plugin so this is the qgis so sharing plugin and it will tell you search for published collection and install them for use with qgis symbology processing scripts processing models and r scripts are supported so this is what is actually supported symbology processing script processing model and r scripts so we are going to install the tgs resource sharing click on install and it will actually install very quickly and it just told you the plugin installed successfully so when we close uh that dialog box and we go to our plugins we will see that a tab called resource sharing has been added into our plugin tab so that is one way of actually installing the plugin if you are getting difficulty installing the open the qgis resource sharing plugin then what you can do is let me just uninstall this plugin first so that i can show you the other way of installing the resource carrying plugin i've already uninstalled if you go to the plugin you can see it's no longer there the second way of installing the resource sharing plugin in qgis is by going to the your browser for this case i'm going to use google chrome so and then i'll type the qgis resource sharing and then it will bring me and i'll select the first link which is the qgis resource sharing plugin and i'll read the description about it now i want to look at the current version right which is the most latest version so i'm going to click on the version tab here and you can see it actually uh brings all the current previous versions and the current version which is which was updated in may 28 2020 and this is the 0.15.1 so i'm going to select the 0.5.1 then i'm going to just download it because that's what i'm interested in i'm going to download it and i'm going to save it to my plugin folder where i have all my plugins in yes so i'm going to save it there and i have finished downloading it it's in our folder i'm going good i'm going to go back to qgis go to plugins manage and install plugins and then now i'm going to install it because it's a zip file i'm going to install it from zip and i'm going to select the qgis resource sharing plugin from our zip file click on open and then click on install give it a few minutes to install and it says the plugin has been installed successfully now let's look at the resource sharing plugin click on the plugin tab then i'll scroll down to where the resource sharing is then i will go i'm going to select the resource sharing and you can see it has actually all loaded already all the sources that are available in the resource sharing plugin on this dialog box you will see there is all collection that is installed and then there is the settings if you currently don't have anything in display here under all collections what you do is just go to the settings and then you'll see you should see some repositories loaded here for my case i have 14 of them if you don't have anything here you can actually click on reload repositories and it will tell you it's reloading then when it's done you can actually click on the first one to see what it contains and you can see these are the nautical symbols for marine charts these ones this one for alina has animal silly hoods and animal trucks this one has even orchard humanitarian organizations and all that and many many many more so let's go now back to all collection and i think by now under all collection you might you must be having all these repositories loaded here so we want to start by learning how to install each and every so that you can actually use them in our qgis so the first thing we do is let's let's look at the animal silly hoods and you can see under when you select animal saliva to actually see very very nice symbols of animals so what we can do we can just click on install to have the theme installed into our qgis and you can see there is animal city hoods was successfully installed containing 35 svg files now let's go to the animal tracks select animal tracks click on install now before we click on install let's look at what what the preview of some of the icons so i can see there are animal tracks so if you are doing a map of animal tracks like for example bears or maybe say mouse you've mapped the routes that they pass through you can actually use these nice svg markers so i'll click on install again and you see it has set the name svgs have been installed so we can go to another one we don't really need to actually it's all out of there let's go to law map arrows and you can see the flow map arrows here so like for example if you want to show maybe the movement of uh certain uh maybe certain movements in the around the world you can actually use these very nice svgs so i'm going to download them perfect then we can also install some others like for example the ones that we want to use today the red cross emblem let's just install that then installed then we are going to install the ocher humanitarian and you can see these are the all the symbols for the humanitarian organizations the inventory icons for ocha shared by them so we're going to use this and as i say 295 sdgs have been installed then we can go again and say for example if you want to do some little bit of camping and you want to create a very nice map you can actually install these svgs and success videos so we're going to install now the last ones which are the road signs and if you're making a very very nice transport map you can use actually use this i'm going to install them now you can actually look at all the collections that you've actually installed here under the install collection so let me click on now close so that you can now know the usefulness of these svg markers so i have loaded all the data that you're going to be using in this exercise you can actually use any kind of data that you have as long as they are point lines and polygons so i'm going to just look at look at that tribute table and i can see there is the there is some points eight points here the amenities the name of the amenities and you can see that there's a tourist direction there's a beach there's roads road signs that say stop the road sideways that is a shop ben hubba fast food camping and airport so we want to just now customize them into that so the first thing i will do is i will now go to my properties here and instead of a single symbol i can select categorized but before i select categorized i will change these to an svg marker so how do we change it to an sd svg mark and it's actually a simple marker so we'll select on the simple marker and then under the symbol layer type here you will select the svg marker instead of the simple marker select the svg marker and it will give you a very big question mark i can actually even add the the size maybe to seven and you can see there's a very big question so it's actually asking you what kind of a svg mac are you going to be using so i'm going to scroll down and just going to put any svg mark and then under the svg groups you're supposed to get there is actually some pre-installed svg markers that come in qgis but we are interested in what we have actually have actually installed so i'm going to go to back down to collection svg groups the collection and you can see there's the animal silly hoods animal truck camping loan maps the ones that we actually had been had installed so let me just use the animal silly hoods for now and when i select animal cellulose it brings bring brings them up so i'm just going to select maybe say this nice barrier and i click on apply okay and you can see all my markers i changed to ah that's very very scary bear so i want now to change them so that each and every category here is represented by by its own svg marker each and every category under the attribute table so i am going to now go to properties then in instead of single symbol i'm going to just select categorized then what value of my categorizing i'm categorizing the amenities then i'll click on classify let you classify all of them the different colors i click on apply and you can see all my bears have turned into a different color but i want each and everyone to have its own symbol so for example the airports here i can actually double click on that color there the the the color of the bear and then i it is still an svg marker so i can just scroll down and look for maybe say transport sign let me see let me go to ocha humanitarian anything we have airport symbol yes and you can see there is an airport symbol here so i can just change it to that by default it is color black like the color or you can actually change the color if you want i'm just going back here up and changing the fill color to the different color that you want so i leave it at black color then i click on okay then i click on apply and now when i look at my you can see where the airport is now let me do the same thing for all the others like for example camping i select the svg marker and look for a very nice one another collection maybe say camping i didn't install the cam oh yeah i installed the campaign here then i can just put this maybe say [Music] campfire or something like that let me just or a cabin right maybe this is a good one so then i can now change color fill color i can just leave it at that right okay and you can see where the camping is and where the airport is i'm going to do the same thing for the other maybe to say the fast food i'll also select the svg marker and i can even use the the default ones for for qgis let me see look at the amenities fast food i can go to food then i can just maybe put these and then you change the color maybe say it green color okay you can see where the fast food is and even modify and change the size to be much bigger let me say 10. okay because it's much bigger then i can go to the harbor and i'm going to use the g marker i'm going to use marine icons so let me look for mine actually didn't install the marine one another so someone just gonna look for something that looks like an anchor maybe say let me just check if i have yes maybe this anchor beware that is then road sign let me just change the route sign svg marker thing to go to road signs then it says it's a stop shop then so i'm going to select the shopkin okay and then there is the road sign stop i'm also going to just select under the road signs science i'm gonna be looking for stop i say okay you can see i have actually customized them and you can do that for all the others for the bear i think it's good for very subtraction and all that so that is how we customize svg markers and points we now go to how to customize it on a polygon so we can see we have two polygons here there's one here and here and they're going to be looking at the information about these polygons so open attribute table and you can see there's mines there's a dangerous site and then there's a bad sanctuary so how do we customize that into an svg so i'm going to go to properties then instead of a single symbol i just change it to a i see as in a simple field i change it to a an svg field you can see there's an svg field here select that svg field then i'm just going to select any svg that is available i'm just going to select maybe say the froggy svg and a bit big so i'll just maybe say the 20 i'll put 10 but then froggy looks visible in our svg click on apply okay and you can see i have actually customized all of them into that but now we want to now customize them into now individual different symbols so i'm going to just click on categorized and then what value of my categorizing i'm going to categorize the type i'm going to click on classify i think to classify the two sides so there is the dangerous site and there is this the tourist site how do we change now there they too to have different distinct symbols so for the dangerous sites i'm gonna just going to look for an icon in the svg field that looks more like i'll i think what i'm going to do is i'm going to now go to maybe say the road transport road side and just look looking for that that question here this question is okay then i click on okay then i'm going to click on apply and look at how it looks like and you can see now there is a caution on this region of or our data so for the tourist site i think i'm just going to use something like a nice animal maybe say an animal maybe a bear because maybe they're interested in being bad then i'll make it a bit smaller and okay okay you can see now i have customized that you can also do the same thing for the point the tracks for the points so we're going to look at the attribute table and you can see there's the hurricane path and there's the animal track so we're going to now customize them too that's good properties then bology single symbol first we change it to an svg marker then we're going to just select an svg mark i'm actually going to go to watch your humanitarian exchange and just going to select i think i'm going to select these the cyclone then fill color i change it to maybe say color well i make it a bit bigger let's say 10. then now i can come and categorize them i took two categories this animal track and then there's the hurricane path so i'm going to start by changing the animal track for real animal truck or animal traps then maybe say this is the animal and i'll rotate it to 90 degrees and it's like walking to the other side right right you can see now this is the animal truck and then the hurricane can actually change it to a hurricane this is the hurricane and even change the color so that's a bit different as the hurricane and that is the animal track and that is that is how you use the resource sharing plugin in qgis i'm gonna just put a basemap and see what kind of region i was working on i'll bring that and you can see these original in the bahamas from this down you can actually make a very nice interactive map if you found this video useful
