[Music] hi we're so excited today to be at the I heart pirate swap this is a show on collections and pirates is one of the main things people are collecting now and I'm here with a good friend now we got to know her with the collection Melissa and there's quite a few people that were waiting in line which made it so exciting some swaps made and so I made quite a few so I completed a couple of sets did you find anything I found a few things a lot of lids which are hard to come by Pixies I love them they're these cute little dishes no and maybe you guys will get lucky and fight some pirates out there [Music] [Music] hi I'm penny Ayers that I've been here today at the Pyrex swap lots of vendors here today people who love to collect Pyrex like this beautiful gooseberry set this is a set the big one from my sister-in-law the middle one from a little lady that was a good friend that recently passed away and so it's just fun to find things that are sentimental and people remember oh I remember when my grandma had that but it's been a lot of fun today hi I'm Carol I'm at the third annual Pyrex swap meet in Fresno and I dragged this handsome man along with me so I could pick up some awesome pieces I'm so excited this has been a great bag my dad out to come Pyrex shopping but now we're gonna take him to dinner I'm happy with my piece I'm Maureen Greg Olson and I was anxious to come a friend invited me I didn't know what I was going to find but I did find some treasures my mom had these when I was little glad I came early I'm glad you can make it come and check out my collection [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] einar's they took a long time for me to find to get this many of the same color but so worth it looks beautiful let's show you dressed [Music] [Applause] [Music] this is one of my first patterns that I started collecting at the time when I first was new to Pyrex I wasn't sure what patterns because there's so many different patterns to collect my mother law gave me one of my first pieces and it was was a butterfly gold she gave me a casserole I believe now this piece right here this one took me a while to find as well it's kind of hard to find what the lid is it's called a Big Bertha also the numbers are six six four a lot of times you can find the numbers on the back that are listed on the back this one's a six four four four quart the lid for this one I'm still in search of the lid but I found this one at an estate sale it was pretty exciting because as soon as I saw it I pretty much ran over there to grab it and my mom was with me so she didn't know what I had until I showed her and she saw the excitement so she knew was something good it's not it's a common pattern but it's the the casserole dish that I didn't have and it completed my set so that was pretty exciting too I know there's different books out there for different pieces this sometimes are some pieces that I can't even find in the book so keep going [Music] I've been probably collecting for about three years and my husband and I were trying to find other ways to make extra money for the family so we started going to a storage unit auctions and we bought a couple of units and we found some pieces I found a couple of Pink's at the time we didn't think they were a big deal but they we looked them up and thought they were nice and collectible and we ended up selling them bought another couple units and found some more Pyrex and I escalated from there and now we instead of auctions storage options we go to store estate sales and thrift stores and yard sales and now we just find them everywhere we antique a lot and I'm going to show you some of my special pieces my collection is not huge but here are some of the special pieces to me I got this set right here for Mother's Day my mom and I found this one here with the black roosters and I've never seen one before so I was pretty excited about it it had a lid I looked it up found it had a cradle and it was a little bit harder piece for everybody else to find so I made it more exciting and it made it more special that my mom and I found this special piece finding this green guy made me feel more excited and happy that I found another one to join my rooster he was a little dirty at the time and then looked like someone had just baked lasagna and just let him sit there and it caked on but when I cleaned it up the shine came out really nice this piece right here my dad found for me it's the friendship one French of lasagna pan and he was pretty excited to find it for me so when I saw what it was he was excited that I was excited so it made it more special so now I'm pretty excited about this piece as well I found these I at an estate sale I find I usually find them piece by piece so one one estate sale I can find the this piece the other sale I can find the lid so it kind of very excited when I see certain pieces that I've been looking for or I also have friends and that are looking for specific pieces so we do trades and swaps so if I find something that I already have a duplicate of and someone is willing to trade me I trade with them and I get something that they have that I want and it kind of goes both ways so my my family is very big on buying me pirates because they know how much I like it their father-in-law went to New Zealand on a vacation about me these from New Zealand and then the rest of these I found on my own just out in the wild it's called up yard selling or estate selling or auctions or thrift stores [Music] hi I'm Desiree which Apple and we're out here at the Clovis antique mall in Clovis California and this entire area is covered with antique shops we got lucky enough to be here at the Clovis antique mall and from what I hear has a ton of Pyrex and so I'm here with Kathy she's a collector as well as a vendor here and she's a volunteer is kind enough to walk us around the store and show us all the cool Pyrex and talk about it thank you so much for coming today Pyrex is a wonderful collectible it's something that you can easily find and you can use it and it's affordable [Music] [Music] it's the name of this pattern is gooseberry and it was first produced in 1959 pink was a great color in 59 and people love it today it's one of the most collectible patents you can see it's alternating with the balls here on the refrigerator set it's all white this is the refrigerator set it came like that together with history rockers [Music] there are some wonderful examples of Pyrex here this particular pattern is from the 1950s it's called snowflake and it's another color that was very very popular in the 50s that's the turquoise it's also very collectible these old casseroles came divided and they also come in the undivided stuff the one underneath it was a promotional pattern and it was maybe released at a holiday or perhaps Mother's Day but not in the regular Pyrex array one behind it also is very popular this is called Daisy and it is from the late 60s in the early 70s and it's one that collectors today are beginning to like more and more I noticed this one here looks like it's different colors but it looks almost exactly like that one there it is it's just from a different era this is from the 1970 and this color combination is called Verde and it comes in other pieces too including bowls this one is the burst of regional Pyrex colors this is from 1945 and an original I came in the in the yellow the large yellow with the medium size of blue and then the two small red ones and you will notice that there's a difference in the lid the stripes on this lid are on each side and the newer legs stripes all the way across okay so 70 and 45 45 like brand-new like I would think by the doctors they made them for many years so possibly they weren't used or they might have been from a little bit later these were meant to go in the frigerator they were the day also our oven where pirates was extraordinary in that you could put glass in the oven it was first made in 1915 and the originals were all clear so it wasn't this color glaze that you have but it was remarkable because nobody ever heard of cutting glass in the Pritchard or excuse me in the oven and also it was easy cleanup he's not lying about so these were really quite extraordinary thank you for all the information I'm excited and thank you for sitting down and actually gonna break some of the patterns down and different colors of what people collect out there wonderful so the original pie racks were really the blue the red the yellow and there was also a primary green Bowl so those were the originals but later is people's taste page we added other colors so once again we looked at the turquoise and there was also pink in patterns there were solids of those two going into the 70s we started good at golds and browns because that was what was popular either okay those are shiny those are a nice condition aren't they one thing that's really important with Pyrex is to not put it in if you wanted to look pristine and shine like this do not do that okay because it was an older quality and it was not designed for the colorful dishwasher detergents that we used to let me show you a piece of beautiful Pyrex the gorgeous color but you can see that it's been put in the dishwasher and then finishes all milky eventually the dishwasher will completely eat this off it'll be a white foam so many people are looking for that color and that bowl yes and it looks yeah and it's cloudy so it's kind of attractive like it is so what having I what did someone need it up if it looks awful they put it in the dishwasher I'm almost positive that's what happened because it's cloudy all over and I can't believe the psycho theme song don't because you will ruin your vintage Pyrex other than that it's very very usable and can use it for everyday just as long as you don't dish [Music] this isn't politics now I came in white like this okay much white but the really popular colors aren't ski or a lime green and pink flamingos everything what this will mean that's correct it is so those were meant to go with springing off some more crazy days okay either powder yeah those are not it has a weight to them they do and when you feel how that patterns on there it may be dishwasher safe so [Music] [Music] okay so this must be a promotional pattern because I have never seen this pattern before now it's very very mid-century doesn't it that looks like it's from the 50s yeah it's gorgeous that's nice you've seen everything you see it's this divided casserole so ideally you were supposed to be able to cook two different things at the same time be those fifties moms they were ambitious well and be lucky if I get something in the microwave right being a cook I'm not sure I think that would actually work but yeah it was a good idea but that's a very cute pattern yeah potatoes and yeah there you go Heinrich started in 1915 and it really was extraordinary for the kitchen because it was laughte you could put in the oven the original prices on it were so low I set like this at these bowls only comes to 95 refrigerator set like this only cost 295 so it was a premier wedding gift for the time it's been manufactured under different company names and it is closely related to the Corning from Corning New York so Corning work today that white cookware that has a little bit flower of the pattern on it it's also a type of Pyrex and you'll notice all Corning has a Pyrex how would I know what to pay like coming in what would you say something like in California I would go for well and just in general something like the four piece set with that color well in California I would expect this to sell for someplace between 70 and 100 dollars but it depends on so many factors one is the condition so it's each bowl in the set the exact same condition and there are also different trademarks on the bottom so in an original bowl set each trademark will be exactly the same so if I'm looking at a bowl set I will check the trademarks I will check the condition of each piece to see if it's in new condition sometimes if you have three balls and you want to replace one you can find your replacement but I would look carefully because not every color it's exactly and you can check around to see what you can find personally but do pay attention to the condition because the conditions never going to get any better if someone has done that bad thing and put it in the dishwasher and then finishes born it's always going to look slightly cloud so if you can find something in pristine condition as you probably worth the extra money the other thing is if you really want to collect Pyrex and find it a little bit out of your price range switch to a different pattern that isn't quite as popular right now so right now some of the Browns and tans aren't as popular so you might be able to find a nice warm they said that's maybe more in the 30 or 40 dollar price range instead of $100 range we can see downstairs in this color this goes to die for reminds me of why because how do I look let you see Elvis Presley rolling in and Mikey Matthews 1959 you have nailed it exactly these were such popular colors for the modern kitchen in 1959 so these colors of Pyrex are valued by collectors today too my relative turquoise and you see it came in the four piece set it came in and it also came in the Hatters and so thank you so much for inviting us out here and letting us helping us with the with the show thank you so much for coming you it's been a couple weeks since we've been here okay so we have Chris and I have a month speaker so he's been collecting for like pretty much ten years and he has like a like a cute crush he has a Facebook group the pirate country oh hi Chris I'm here with Melissa and hi Chris how are you oh my goodness I didn't even think about selling the whole convection bonus um give or take there's some pieces that have a little bit more value just because of the way they look and I don't know I think it's more sentimental value for myself 48 hundreds on the table are you gonna want to collect keep on collecting parrots or do you want to collect the cheque but I don't think I want to sell my collection no no thank you Chris Melissa thanks a lot for letting me come to your home up to the pirate swap with you and tag along I had a lot of fun and found a lot of cool pieces myself but really excited to see all these different patterns and pirates I I always just knew the clear blast that was it when I saw all these colors and it's just been so much fun my pieces have meetings to me and I love collecting I love meeting new friends at swaps and I just it's the thrill of the hunt to go look for new pieces and complete sets and you know what I hope we stay friends and then you keep in touch with me and everything I will get to know more each other more no I'm into this game and this won't be the end of it but I thank you all so much for tuning in and we'll have other collection shows coming up and it's been a great blessing you guys go out there and find what you love to collect and and check out the website and get in touch with us if you want us to come visit your home and share what you're
