[Music] [Music] [Music] all right so here we go welcome everyone to another ps3 homebrew video and we're looking at thumbnails and playlists in retro arch for the ps3 and i'll show you how to set up those playlists properly and also get those thumbnails downloaded that was one of the issues i was having and i just kind of looked through and see what i had to do to change something and it worked so hopefully this will shed some light on this problem and this will work out for you now let's talk about the playlists first so my roms are on a usb drive it's a 64 gigabyte usb drive and i have all my roms thrown on there they don't take up a lot of space it's like about four or five gigabytes and it works really well so i have those in my usb drive now if you go into scan directory and you go to your usb drive you go to your roms folder and this is how i have my roms folders set up i have gb gba gbc so that's game boy game boy advance game boy color n64 uh nintendo game boy advance i guess i have another folder like that and my snes roms if you go in here you won't see any items but if you start scanning the directory it will actually show you how many items you have in that folder and then it will stop it will completely freeze your ps3 and you can't do nothing you just have to power it off by pressing the button so that's a big problem but we managed to figure that issue out along with thumbnails so what you have to do before you scan the directory is change a couple settings actually it's just one so let's go under settings and you want to go down to user interface and the show advanced settings by default is going to be off so let me just turn that off just to do the demo here so this is how your user interface is going to look and enable the show advanced settings and then press circle then go back into user interface and you'll see all these different options that pop up we have to go down to threaded tasks and turn that off so once that's off we go back by pressing circle go to the main menu and go under configuration file save current configuration go back and then restart retro arch and i did this and performed it on my full tutorial guide on how to install retroarch for the very first time i have a link to that video somewhere here on the screen so you can go check it out but it did work it started to set up my playlists and the theme here i'll talk about the theme with the little cool icons here at the end of the video but yeah it started to scan the directory and it started to automatically set up my playlist and it was great and you can see that it was working just fine yeah it worked out just great it did its thing and now i don't have to constantly go through that folder to find the usb drive and and get my games and stuff like that so that works out great now for our thumbnails so when you go into your game and go to download thumbnails you're not gonna get this bar you're not gonna get anything nothing's gonna happen that was my experience i wasn't getting anything i was constantly pressing x and i wasn't getting nothing to appear nothing to show nothing to download no loading bars whatsoever then i went down to the online updater and i thought i needed to go here and do the playlist thumbnails updater so i went in here uh pressed x and nothing happened just nothing nothing nothing so i was like okay what do i have to do i started uh to update all this stuff again maybe i missed something or something didn't go right then i restarted retroarch nothing happened so what we want to do is change the location of our thumbnails and that's what worked for me go under settings and go to directories the last option here and go down to thumbnails you will see thumbnails as default and you want to change that what i did is just threw them on my usb stick here i just went to the dev underscore usb 001 i selected that use this directory and then i went down to scan these games and they started popping up they started populating all the thumbnails and screenshots here very very cool and yeah that's how you would fix your thumbnails you just have to change the directory and you should be all good to go now for the theme and how you can get the screenshot there to show up to the left and your box art so go back to the settings and under user interface go to appearance and here what we want to do is change it to retro system so this is the theme i'm using under the menu icon theme you can change it by pressing the left and right on the d-pad and it will start to load up the different themes but retrosystem for me is by far the best it looks really nice and you can do like an icon shadows as well if you are into that and uh the menu color i have it at dark purple i'll change it to midnight blue and here thumbnails should be box arts and left thumbnails i believe it's gonna be off by default but yeah you can change it to screenshots or title screens so let's do screenshots here let's go back and now we have a screenshot of the game but i prefer the uh the title screen i think that's a lot nicer makes it look more i don't know aesthetically pleasing i guess let's go to title screens we'll change that back there and you can do a couple of other things here for your thumbnails like scale thumbnail upscaling threshold things like that so yeah here i don't have my game boy thumbnails download it so once we change that directory we can go back to the online updater go to playlist thumbnails updater and hit the game boy press x and it will start to download one thing i would also recommend not to do is to have this enabled this will cause problems to retroarch where it will be slowed down sometimes these uh sometimes you're not going to get all the thumbnails and this thing will constantly try to track those thumbnails and you don't want that so i just recommend to have this off and do it manually you don't need that on whatsoever it's not a big deal so let's go and check out game boy and there it is look at those beautiful beautiful thumbnails look at that we got gloom and that one we got him only on that one magikarp pikachu super mario land and tetris that is amazing so there you have it that's how you set up your playlists and that's how you fix your thumbnails and get those all adjusted for retro arch on the ps3 if you enjoyed this video make sure to hit the thumbs up button helps out a lot here with the algorithm on youtube and if you have any questions comment down below and i'll try to get back to you soon as possible and if you haven't already
