what is up everybody sis adman Sean here with the final part of the proxmox done fast guides where we're going to move a virtual machine from an esxi host to a proxmox host so stay tuned so you're going to have to do a little bit of prep work before you move any virtual machines from esxi over to proxmox and one of those things is to download um the open virtualization format to the lvf tool this is the one you're going to want to click right here this first one and you're going to click download here and it's going to take you to the customer connect blah blah blah log in if you need to and then go ahead and grab this bundle right here for Linux click download and then Bing Bang Boom and I've already done that so we'll go over to my host and I've already copied the file over there so I'm logged in so we can see bang it's right there then you need to make it executable chod A+ X because I'm lazy vmw blond blah blah blah boom done then you just install it with doing do slash now I'm installing this on my proxmox host I'm not installing this on a separate Linux machine this is actually my proxmox host and I'll show you kind of how this works in a second so we get it installed it's already installed in mind once you get it installed there's a an agreement All That Jazz you hit yes you hit install and it's done then you get ovf tool very cool so the formatting for this is essentially ovf tool VI SL your root at your esxi host and then the folder for your VM so in this case it's going to be like Windows I've already got it typed in here let's not pretend Windows test Windows 22 in test the basically the Windows Server I built because I figured if anything's going to be difficult to move it's going to be a Windows VM and then a folder you can access so let me show you kind of how that all Lays out so if we go over here we log in into our Ro our ESX set box here's our Windows test it's powered off because we're not running it if we go to our storage VM land we can browse our data store and there's the there's the VM now according to esxi we don't have to put in the slvm land data store name it just knows because it'll run this as a list and then we're going to send it to this storage this sefs PVE that has container templates and I images and the actual Target is SL MN PVE ISO but the host knows it as SL ISO so we're going to go with that so then we go over here we tell it I'm going to connect into this I want this VM and I want it to go to sliso on this local box we hit enter we wait a couple seconds it should attempt to connect yep you put in your login info for your esxi box it finds the VM it says okay you want me to put this in sliso and I'm going to build a folder for it essentially this will take some time now I don't want to cheat and uh cut this so what I might do is speed through it I want you all to understand that I'm doing this live and that this isn't any sort of magic and I'm not leaving out any steps but this will take a while play dead and I stay dead maybe you'll get sick of being the monster out of my head under my bed thinking something out of my right but if I lay down and I play de and I de then you get killing me silhou of VI like a TA never really notice what you want with you I don't never feel Cal I could feel the sweat inside my pal play with me like cats and a stram you don't understand the pain it brings you don't ever want to give me wings you don't ever want to set me free you know I'm addicted to you and it's twisted You' been gifted with the evil foro got me coming back from more even when I've been screwed dolls full of PS pierce my heart straight through I got issues in my head I like you in my bed but you keep me on red oh everything is like a test I better not text or I'll come off desk but if I lay down and I play de and I st you get sick being the monster out of my head under my bed thinking something out of my night standing right there but if I lay down and I play dead and I stay dead then you get kill so play dead you [Music] regret all right so that's completed now that's not the end so we got one more step we got to do which is in my history we've got to import the ovf file so you do qm import ovf give this a ID number preferably pick one you're not going to use uh I've seen some guys use 333 thank you YouTuber um pretty much any three-digit number that's not a VM you are to use so we'll stick with 333 you give it the path to the ovf file which is what we made in the last and then you give it a place where you want to stick your VMS now I'm sticking mine in VM data because as you can see VM data is for dis images and containers which means VMS I could use local but I'm not going to use local I want it on the cluster so we go back over and we hit bang oh 3 three that's not going to work it's got to be 3 three three there we go we hit bang this will take a few seconds as well um not too bad and it's a little bit more [Music] visual get sick of being the monster out of my head under my bed thinking something out of my nose there are also commands you can do if you want to do an entire esxi host at once and I'll put that link down uh I'll put that information down in the description below uh if you've used this tool let me know how it worked for you um what worked what didn't uh there are some stuff we're going to some things we're going to have to do after we complete this import and I'll show you those but uh if there's anything that you've run into after doing an import and doing those changes uh let us know in the comments and let us know how you fix it if you are able to fix it so that other people can benefit from the knowledge because that would be awesome so there's that done so now if we go over to our host boom there it is now we're still not done yet we do not want to delete our VM yet so we need to go back to our esxi box we need to double check a couple of things so the first thing we need to check is which bios option we used when we built the VM if you know this awesome you're you're ahead of the game um it's usually in VM options boot yeah boot e EFI so we got to go over here we got to change the hardware to EFI hit okay um the next thing is not documented that I've seen uh but I very often but this is kind of important if I just do this this machine won't boote like I'll show you right now if I hit start [Music] here it's going to run effi but it's going to say there's no map found to fix that stop the VM go back over here to Hardware detach your scuzzy disc which I know weird then go to your unused dis and edit it again convert this to SATA I'm turning on SSD emulation and then hit add you'll also notice there's no Nick so when we imported it it doesn't add a Nick card now this may be different if you already added the qmu driver to the VM before you migrated it I didn't because I was curious to see what would happen so you can just go over to network device throw it in your network bang bang and you know pick whichever one you want this one is guaranteed to work this one needs a driver this one may work because of EMW tools um so we could put that on there and see what happens and then we should be all good to go so let's hit start and see how it looks if we get a little spinny Circle we did we did good if we don't get a spinny Circle we did Bad come on spinny Circle oh I think we did good yep there it is so this will boot up to window server 2022 in just a few seconds and there we go the VM is up and running all you've got to do now is make some tweaks to make sure networking is functioning and then change your backups remove VMware tools which apparently is a little bit of a Troublesome spot for some folks but I'm guessing if you just use the MSI command instead of trying to run through the installer uninstaller it'll work great uh and that's about it we'll see you in the next one
