why did i forget my whoa oh hopefully nothing broke hello there this is brian and welcome to an episode of product reviews [Music] hello everybody today we are doing part one of an assembly and initial review of the hyper bicycles e-ride electric pedal assist 26-inch mountain bike i ordered this from walmart on sale for 398 dollars as a present for myself the regular price is a few hundred more but these sales seem to be pretty routine so i just keep an eye out for a price drop i also purchased the 700c commuter bike version for my wife which i reviewed in a previous video if you do find videos like this helpful click that like button it does help at the channel and it helps me know what people enjoy watching the box itself is a little heavier but manageable and as you can see the bike comes really well wrapped and unlike the commuter bike that i received this came in great condition so it seems that shipping damage is hit or miss between these products there are no detailed printed instructions nor any tools provided if i had to guess this is really geared towards being pre-built in the store but of course these were not kept in my local walmart so i had to order these delivered from one line now you are going to need some tools to assemble this at a minimum you need an adjustable wrench a collection of metrix hex keys a phillips head screwdriver as well as an air pump for the tires of course if you've assembled household items in the past and kept the hex keys that came with them you may have a set that works so try them first if you don't have a key set i ended up using a 10 millimeter driver on some parts my adjustable wrench on most of it and as well as the hex set i would expect it to take the average person probably one to two hours to assemble this depending on your experience and skill level but hopefully this will help you cut out any mistakes that i made going through myself now as i went through this i took some time to inspect everything and everything seemed complete and well packaged not to mention little things like this if you notice how that front fork is right is attached to some type of holder within the box that actually helped kept keep this much more stable and gosh they zip tie and package the heck out of this it actually took me a good oh 20 30 minutes just to kind of break apart all the packaging to get to the bike itself and that's a good thing not a bad thing so now my first step was to start putting on the handlebar and getting the bike able to stand up by itself um you know when tightening fasteners i prefer to hand tighten first and later tighten them with a screwdriver or spanner wrench just in case i need to make later adjustments or as i often do make mistakes during the process and given that there's no instructions i'm just going to go by feel rather than using any type of torque wrench so who knows what the proper specs are to tighten these up now when you do load up the handlebars make sure you have the bottom of the forks facing forward this is the mountain bike so the bars are front facing off the forks as you can see here i actually found that the front handlebar was actually a little bit too more aggressive for me meaning that it's a little bit more lower than i found comfortable and i can imagine myself you know really putting a lot of back a lot of pain into my back and stress on my arms so much so that i actually went ahead and started to return this and get the larger 29 inch bike until i did a little research and i found that you can extend the handlebar up using extension and i also noticed too that in the box itself once i put it away that the seat is much higher up so and given that this is a 26 inch bike i feel it's more maneuverable so at this point i'm going to start putting on that front tire and as in the initial blooper i did drop this when i went to go put this on um which of course through the magic of video editing i was able to make this look more much more professional in this uh one little disappointment but i guess it's not terrible is that you know this has the old fashioned screw on bolts for the front wheels rather than the quick release which is kind of a bummer if you want to take the front wheel on and off but then again they had to cut corners somewhere cheap bolt choice does seem to be a constant theme with these hyper bikes not cheap enough to be dangerous though but if you plan on using the bike heavily or you like to tinker with your bike i suggest probably replacing most of those bolts over time with better machine ones for increased durability and better ease of use now while the front wheel does not have a quick release the seat does have a quick release which is really nice you just pull a lever and that c pull comes in and out pretty quickly one downside is this might be one of the most uncomfortable worst seats i've ever seen on a bike and that was definitely the first thing i decided to replace on this bike and again without any instructions i'm just winging this as far as how much force to use when clamping these down at this point i'm going through the remainder of the package and this is the charger i just plugged in i'm taking off the remaining packaging and gosh there is so much packaging on this mountain bike that all being said i gotta say you know i was really impressed with the quality of this bike i actually expected um something more like a hundred dollar bike that they slapped a battery to but truth be told i mean this is a really quality built bike and i also like the fact that the battery is built into the frame is not just something that slapped in and this is me here realizing you have to attach the little rubber knobbies on top of the uh front bolts for the wheel i can finally i get that kick stand up now i'm starting to putting the petals on just keep in mind that when you put the petals on you need to turn these in the direction that you're riding on each side so instead of on the left side you're going to do lefty tighty instead of righty tighty so just took him first a moment to do that the or realized that the first time i did that and here's putting on the right pedal the pedals are okay i'm probably going to eventually replace these i actually like the pedals much better on my wife's 700c bike than these i wish they actually were a little bit more aggressive and at this point i'm just doing an initial tightening of the brakes i'm going to cover how to do this a little bit better towards the end of the video actually i'm probably going to break this out into a separate video on how to tighten brakes so keep an eye out for that in a future coming video that'll probably be a pretty short video but i think it'll be pretty useful all right with everything basically adjusted i'm going to go ahead and take out the battery when you're charging this battery the first time they recommend you charge it for four hours also that you turn the battery on when you do charge it my guess is that there is an overcharge sensor in this that if you don't turn it off the overcharge sensor doesn't work that's just a guess but it was included in the instructions which of the few instructions they did include so i take this pretty seriously one great thing about these hyperbikes i've noticed is that the batteries are interchangeable so if i decide to ever go out solo i want to bring an extra battery i can grab the wife's or vice versa it's a pretty cool little feature now i'm just taking off the last of the trimmings tightening up the front mirror i'm sorry the front reflector and lining it up side by side i actually found this mountain bike to be slightly smaller than the 700 c bike it's rated for a person 5 2 to five ten um which you can kind of feel i i s i'm five ten so i'm at that very upper end of the spectrum whereas the tl1 is five four two six one you can definitely tell the difference that i made after assembly i mentioned that the stem was too low unlike a traditional bike you'll need to buy an extension if you need to adjust it upwards and i'll post that when that part arrives to start the bike you first need to turn on the battery and then the main controller you can turn on the main controller on and off it doesn't really seem to adjust the battery much at all the mode setting is for various speeds ranging from 12 to 20 miles an hour and it really does go the six kilometer button is for walking your bike up a hill you'll need to hold it in to get it to operate also take some time to adjust your controllers you generally want the back of your palm in line with your arm while riding and that will reduce stress you're also going to want to adjust your brakes you're going to loosen this bolt all the way open to the left by turning it left once it's fully out you're then going to grab your corresponding break you're going to hold that together as hard as you can with your hands you're going to undo that metallic hex bolt right there next to my thumb you're going to pull that cord out as far as it'll go to tighten it all the way and you're going to lock that hex nut back in once that's in you're going to notice that your wheel is not going to turn at that point you're going to turn that back right the the bolt next to your bar and that will leave your brakes pretty well set for what you want to have them at well i hope you found this assembly review helpful if you did please click that like button and subscribe for future content if you have any additional tips please leave them in the comments section if you do have interest in the 700c commuter bike i do have a review for that so be sure to watch that and i'll have experiential reviews on both of these following pretty soon as well to give you more hands on how does it actually feel in the road type of review and as always take care and hope to see you again on another amazing adventure
