as a digital artist you might have encountered procreate and infinite painter these two are well-known drawing apps in the art scene let's compare them to find out which one is better before we continue let me tell you about domestica which is a platform that has hundreds of classes about animation drawing illustration and several other creative Fields so we've got you guys this course from domestica about procreate which will guide you through this software the course is mainly targeted towards beginners it is taught by Brad Woodard who will teach you how to create digital illustrations using procreate the course covers plenty of interesting topics such as the essentials of procreate how to customize your interface how to work with layers how to export and share your art and many more alright now back to the video [Music] brookrid is a one-time purchase raster graphics editor application for 9.99 USD it's mainly used for illustration 3D model painting and basic animation procreate is exclusively available on iPad and iPhone with no known plans on moving to Android the app was around as early as 2011 but Rose to popularity in the mid-2010s around 2016 or something and has since become one of the most popular drawing apps for iOS devices just like procreate infinite painter is a raster graphics editor but this time around the app is free it's also available on a lot more platforms than its counterpart infinite is on both IOS and Android tablets in addition to phones and Chromebooks let's take a look at how both software present themselves to the user procreate interface is in gray with white detailing sporting a simple and minimalist look and feel in procreate almost everything is on the big toolbar at the top neatly tucked under several icons the icons are a wrench a magic wand a squiggly line a cursor a brush a hand an eraser two stacked papers and a circle with a given color each icon holds a specific set of tools and features for instance the magic wand is for effects like gaussian blur on the left side there are two sliders for changing a brush's size and opacity in between the sliders is a rectangle that once clicked triggers the Color Picker under the sliders are the undo and redo buttons lastly the center is for the canvas infinite painter and procreate resemble each other in their Simplicity with infinite being far more simple in its interface we have a movable mini toolbar on the left which has the main tools brushes eraser and color options and so forth on the bottom and on each side we have undo and redo buttons on the top right we have the tools menu layer and options menu the middle space is for the canvas lastly we have a house icon on the far left upper corner that takes you back to the main menu of the software just like the word gallery on procreate foreign has many tools the most popular of this app's tools is the brushes the brushes are both varied and customizable they are in all types by default and they also come with a powerful modification system for instance you can change the degree of blending and the softness or hardness of the outer edge of a brush and so on and so forth this has created a variety of brushes in the app as artists are making and sharing their brushes all around the community if you follow a digital artist and you really like their procreate brush there's a chance that they are either selling it or giving it for free picking colors on procreate is quite the treat all you have to do is tap and hold on a spot and the Picker will automatically activate this workflow has made it easy for painters to achieve a wonderful blending in their artwork other gestures allow you to zoom in and out undo and redo rotate the canvas and so forth some of the other tools on the app are multiple selection and transformation options such as wrapping and deformation and cropping the app also has basic text options we can't forget about the grids and guides of all kinds that the app has you can also add a pop to your work with the effects on the app such as gaussian blur and chromatic aberration there's also a neat little feature where you can add a reference or small preview of your drawing in a hovering window layers are also present in the app but limited this has been a long-standing critique of procreate however that's due to the fact that procreate tries to balance out performance and functionality it all depends on how powerful your device is and if you feel like having more layers but also having really good performance where your brush Strokes Glide in real time and are not hunkered down by lag or freeze you would need the latest iPad let's see what infinite has to offer in comparison to procreate spoiler it's a lot okay let's start with the most important thing the brushes just like procreate infinite has a plethora of brushes in all kinds from those for sketching calligraphy watercolor to painting and so forth these default brushes are already amazing in every way possible but they are also customizable for instance you can adjust the opacity flow pressure velocity tilt and softness of a brush it's safe to say that the app has a brush engine that easily Rivals procreate and for free it doesn't stop there for infinite the app has other tools such as guides shapes cloning tools perspective grids selection transformation tools as well as tools to create patterns and symmetry tools since infinite painter is also an app with a minimalistic presentation of interface gestures are a big part of the workflow in fact the first thing the app does is give you a rundown of the available gestures for use we have the usual zoom in in and out undo and redo rotating color picking and moving about the canvas gestures all of these work just like procreate's gestures all in all infinite has great tools coupled with features that make a great workflow foreign is very easy to learn as well as being very popular this combo squashes the app's learning curve you have the company's guides tutorials and tips but you also have a big community of artists that are creating tutorials for this software as well you're also more likely to come across videos on social media introducing you to all the tips and tricks in the software and keeping you up to date with all the news on the app infinite painter is not hard to figure out at all on your own the interface is minimal so that lessens the overwhelming feeling of opening the app for the first time and gives you room to explore the app at your own pace procreate wins over painter in one thing and that is popularity you're much more likely to find help in the community when it comes to procreate as it is popular and there are plenty of videos by the community to help you figure things out painter on the other hand does not have that like at all it does however have spectacular documentation the app has an interactive manual with every question you can think of answered and has all the information you need about the app usually in our comparison videos no app actually wins over the other because different apps exist for different people which is also true for today's video however as a 2d illustrator it's really hard to pass infinite painter for procreate infinite painter is available for free for more platforms than procreate has a great tool set an even greater brush engine painter basically covers all bases of 2D illustration and then some and all that for free it might not be as popular as book rate which makes finding a helpful Community around it a bit tricky but the documentation of the app is so good it easily makes up for that however if animation features and 3D model painting are really important to you then infinite painter might not be for you and you might need to go for procreate so really consider which features you need and then go from there do you only need illustration or illustration animation and 3D model painting altogether if only the former then painter is the best option if the latter then procreate and that was that for our video today we hope you enjoyed it and learned something new hopefully we helped you make an informed decision on which app to get let us know what you think in the comments below we would love to hear what you think with that being said thank you for watching as always and see you next time
