Private ramps rarely meet the IRC codes

so i broke my deck doing street skating which i need to stop and i told myself with my new deck i'm going to stick just to ramps and it got me thinking about ramps this morning let's talk about ramps in the code so if i broke myself instead i might need a ramp just like a lot of american homeowners but if i look at my front house you can see here i've got one two three rises from my driveway to my deck not a lot of space between if i go from that door right here and i run down to where my driveway is i've only got about 10 feet of length now the steepest slope you can do in the irc is one in eight and 10 feet of length is only going to get me 15 inches of height but with three rises i'm closer to 21 inches or more don't confuse code with permits you still stop at stop signs when there's no police officers wait bad example when i do work on my beat up old land cruiser i torque the bolts to spec and i certainly expect a mechanic to right standards of the industry so i'm back here with my code books and this is where the standards of construction live right now they live in the latest 2021 irc but i'm not a fan of rules over my fellow americans that just live in books and that aren't actually seen out there and embraced and utilized by the people especially when there's no permit or government oversight to make it happen if these are the standards they should matter to us not to an authority so let's talk about it let's prompt the conversation proposals are due this coming january 2022 to modify this code and make the 2024 edition maybe we should put this on the table have a little chat about it and i'd like to invite the builders and the american public to this table because if the code we write for you is not working for you then maybe we're not writing the right thing thanks
