hey guys I'm glad you're here today's project is this poulan pro chainsaw and the problem is is that has a hard time idling and if it stops when it's hot it simply will not start again let's see if we can find out what the problem is and fix it I know a lot of people don't like pullin chainsaws but I have to ask if it's from a personal experience or is it from word of mouth I do work on these Poland's more often than other brands but I think it's because more people bought them than the higher priced brands let's put some gas in this chainsaw start it and see exactly what the problem is [Music] okay it seems to start fine but off choke it does struggle to idle if you do keep the RPMs up high enough you can cut wood number letting it idle however if it does stop it will not start again an easy thing to do is to take the top cover off and take a look at the air filter and see if there is a problem with it that's definitely not the case here as the air filter is practically brand-new so we're gonna have to look at something else the next thing we're gonna have to look at is the carburetor to do that you'll have to remove these two long bolts that go through the air filter base to make things easier you could try to remove the handle but I find it easier if I just work around it the air filter base is unfortunately connected to the throttle cable so what I do is just move it out of the way and work around it to disconnect the carburetor from the engine you'll need to remove the fuel line to it followed by the choke lever the throttle linkage and beware of any gaskets or plates that might come along with the carburetor let's remove the top plate on the carburetor that's where the pumping diaphragm is well this is interesting there's actually debris on top of the pumping diaphragm at some point more than likely the fuel filter has come off the line inside the fuel tank we'll have to remove the diaphragm to look for more debris underneath it and inside the carburetor it's strange that it's completely clean underneath the diaphragm especially in the filter screen let's go ahead and blow off the debris and then reinstall the top portion of the carburetor then now let's take off the bottom plate of the carburetor which is where the metering diaphragm is I don't think the tiny amount of debris on the other diaphragm is causing our running problems however a wart metering diaphragm would probably cause it though if we take a good look at it it's beginning to show a few wrinkles on the outermost part of the diaphragm and this could definitely affect its overall performance we're gonna replace the metering diaphragm anyway with a new one and when you do replace it make sure that they look exactly the same and now that the carburetor is back together let's reinstall it into the chainsaw first install the fuel line followed by the throttle linkage and then the bolts that go through it make sure that all the gaskets and the plates are where they're supposed to be before stabbing the carburetor to the engine and before you tighten the bolts completely to the carburetor reconnect the choke lever to the carb now replace the air filter and make sure that the fuel line is in its clip this makes sure that the line is out of the way of the adjustment screw and with the top cover back on let's try starting in it looks like it needs a little bit more fuel to idle so what I'm going to do is turn the L screw counterclockwise a quarter turn it does idle but it needs a little bit more fuel to rev up properly to full speed so what you'll need to do is turn the L screw another quarter turn counterclockwise [Music] [Music] [Music] I know a lot of you out there are probably saying that I should have just done a carburetor adjustment from the beginning but I wanted to give the chainsaw a carve inspection which was a good thing as it benefited from a light cleaning in the diaphragm replacement thanks a lot for watching this video I hope you found it very informative if you have any comments or questions please leave them down below if you haven't already please subscribe it really helps out the channel and I'll see you guys in my next video
