Tik Tok could be banned in the next year. This all comes after President Biden signed the legislation that would force Tik Tok's Chinese owner to sell its interest in the platform or face a ban Ted news reporter Lauren Davis is joining us now with more on this, Lauren Brittany Tik Tok could be barred from us app stores as soon as the beginning of next year. If Bytedance doesn't sell the tiktok, CEO says they plan to fight the move in court. I spoke with local social media users and leaders who shared how this ban could change the way we use and view platforms. Tik Tok gives everyday Americans a powerful way to be seen and heard. And that's why so many people have made Tik Tok part of their daily lives. Rest assured we aren't going anywhere. Karen Freeberg, a University of Louisville professor says the new law potentially banning tiktok is not surprising. I think the this latest um push has been, I would say more rapid and more kind of like decisive versus um the uncertainty like, well, is it bad? Is it not, are we going to be keeping it data here? Are we not. Kinsey Green is a junior at the University of Tennessee. She says she also makes videos on the universally popular platform. I do a lot of like informational videos, like tips for upcoming college students. I do a lot of like lifestyle content kind of day in the life things. I hop in little trends and do things like that. She says a band would be disappointing but tiktok is not her only source of income. I would um be totally flexible with jumping on to another platform and doing kind of what I'm doing now in other ways. And I like it wouldn't be the end of the world for me, especially because my priorities. I am a student. According to Matthew Pittman, one of Kinsey's professors, the potential tiktok ban affects more than just content creators. It has surpassed Instagram. And I think there's about between eight and $15 billion of ad revenue that would go off of that platform and on to Instagram reels and youtube shorts. So right now, Google and Meta are very excited about the idea of a tiktok ban. Karen Freeberg says content creators should plan to start spreading their revenue across several different platforms. She says it's a better practice to not put all your eggs in one basket. Brittany Lauren, thank you new tonight.
