[Music] out of all of the unpopular opinion videos I've made over the years this one has been the most difficult to write not because I lack spicy opinions concerning tears of the Kingdom but rather because I'm not entirely sure what's considered unpopular in order to explain this better let's back up a bit to tears of the Kingdom's pred cessor breath of the wild let's talk about the Zelda internet fandom when the game released the Zelda tubers sphere was in its infancy since then and in large part because of breath of the wild it's grown exponentially honestly it's been amazing to watch and be a part of myself now of course there were forums and the like all over the Internet since well practically since the internet was a thing but the accessibility and frankly the interest in engaging those areas of the interwebs was on a much smaller scale than what we see today thanks to YouTube being a platform almost everyone engages with not just us Millennials and younger plenty of Gen X and a few younger Boomers as well fandoms of all kinds now have a much larger audience and Community to discourse with I know there are other platforms as well but for the purposes of this explanation I'm mostly sticking to YouTube because of this while we know simply based on how the human race is that trolls and keyboard Warriors certainly existed pre YouTube they've become much much more prominent as YouTube and other platforms become more widely used and here in lies the source of my conundrum are these opinions that I'm going to share really that unpopular with there being so many pockets of the community at large I can arguably find any part of the Zelda fandom that I want easily every opinion I have listed as unpopular probably has a huge following of those who agree with me right you could argue that's how it always was but let's think ocarine of time has been hailed as one of the best Zelda games of all time forever and always I share this thought by the way and without a doubt to say otherwise has almost always been considered unpopular not invalid just not widely felt with the platforms growing we now do see an increase of the voices that were once toing the unpopular absolutely nothing wrong with that that's literally what this video is but you can see how a game being released in the thick of what we have now means it's difficult to tell what's truly the popular and unpopular thought most people are very brave behind their screens whereas these conversations used to happen in person a lot more and thus more civil discourse ensued without such it seems like every opinion is so loud okay longest intro ever but all of this to say I'm sure every single opinion I've listed for this video probably has a decent chunk of people who would totally agree I made my list based on what thoughts of mine seem to Garner the most pushed back and sometimes backlash negativity and vital look not every conversation is as chill and civil as this amazing three-hour discussion video between a bunch of us Zelda tubers hosted by cap bergerson that you should totally check out yes this is how I've always done these videos but my point is that it was far more difficult in this case because I couldn't always tell what was unpopular thought and what just drew a few of these super loud negative NES maybe this whole intro was unnecessary H anyway jumping into it let's [Music] go tears of the kingdom is not over glorified DLC most of the time I do try to understand the other perspective on opinions but this one I truly do not get tears of the kingdom is anything but DLC I often feel that many have this Viewpoint for two main reasons the first first being the fact that tears of the kingdom was born out of having too many ideas for you guessed it DLC to breath of the wild hence they hear originally DLC and subconsciously can't get that out of their head the second because it's the most direct sequel we've had in the series it's the only one to take place in the same world as its predecessor perhaps these two things combined lead many to feel tears of the kingdom is basically DLC well suffice it to say I do not share this thought at all it's funny funny because others complain there's too much to do in tears of the Kingdom anyway between the entirely new main quests story side quests abilities and so much more the only major overlaps are music graphics and the base of the surface of Hyrule even then there are differences in all of these areas just because it began as DLC doesn't mean it stayed that way it clearly didn't it's one thing to feel like it's DLC due to the overlaps but an entirely other thing to claim that's all it is I know it's not everyone who feels this way but the general Vibe I've gotten from those that view this game as just being big DLC is that they essentially just wanted the developers to move on from breath of the wild fair enough if that's what you wanted again not speaking for everyone who feels it's DLC that's simply the gist of what I've heard the zonai shrines were way better than the shika ones as much as I love the old school traditional dungeons I actually do enjoy shrines my understanding is that many were disappointed with the shrines of Tears of the Kingdom for a few different reasons either just one of these or multiple they didn't care for the shrines of breath of the wild so naturally having them return is a bummer even if they enjoy the shika shrines for what they were before they really didn't want them again and had hoped for more classic Dungeons and for the game to move away from shrines they actually do like the shrines but didn't like them as much as the ones in breath of the wild they felt there were too many shrines and tears of the kingdom and that many were too similar like I said it could be one or a mix of these thoughts that lead one to feel disappointed with this aspect of Tears of the Kingdom totally understandable I just don't feel the same I enjoy the concept of shrines in general as an easy way for me to level up without feeling bogged down by a big dungeon though again I do love a good dungeon on top of this I enjoy the actual puzzles and mechanics of the tears of the Kingdom shrines far more than those of breath of the wild I never finished the shika shrines but was Keen to do so with the zonai shrines a big part of that is because of our arm abilities I love them far more than the shica Slate abilities though I do miss my remote bombs The Depths were more than just copy and paste notice I'm not saying the depths were not copy and paste they were in many respects but I feel they are more than that unlike with the sky islands this didn't bother me I mentioned this in a previous video but I do believe a large part of why the copy and paste nature of the depths didn't run me the wrong way was because we didn't know much about the depths prior to the game whereas the copy and paste Sky Islands we thought there'd be more to them based on the trailers even if there had been more advertising of the depths compared to the sky islands there's so much more to them the adventure of opening up the light routes by navigating the terrifying dark the enemies the yiga camps the massive bosses is I'm so aware of how syy it all is but it feels so much more rewarding to me than the sky islands were oh and that music as you descend chef's kiss right there the NPC's not remembering link makes sense most of us I'm sure were quite curious about the NPC interactions considering this is a totally direct sequel hence most of us were probably a bit confused by just how many NPCs seemed ambiguous in whether they knew him or not not or flat out didn't remember who link was at all I mean the hes carried over so surely any NPC interactions we had in breath of the wild should have translated as well right while this confused me it didn't annoy me too much in fact I honestly felt most of it was justified in fact cap bergerson did a super in-depth video looking into every NPC that was in both breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom and how their remembrance of Link holds up frankly you realize it's not as crazy as it seems I highly recommend giving that video a watch if you were annoyed or even just curious about why so many NPCs don't recognize link but while I agree that it would have been nice for any interactions we had in breath of the wild to carry over with our horses I'm really not that bothered by this and believe there is good reason for so many NPCs not remembering link playing tears of the Kingdom makes breath of the wild nowhere near as fun this opinion I was on the fence about not in the sense that I'm unsure of where I stand but rather as to the level of its unpopularity however I have noticed that quite a number of fellow fans get peeved by this statement usually it's those who feel tears of the Kingdom isn't enough to be its own game but also those who think I'm dissing The Beloved predecessor breath of the wild is the Masterpiece that deserves all the glory and tears of the Kingdom just piggybacked and isn't anything special actually this might just be the loud minority but I'll press on anyway for Me Breath of the wild is a masterpiece but tears of the Kingdom just does so many things better than breath of the wild that going back to it even just for gameplay footage is difficult not that I don't still have a massive soft spot in love for it I do I know the day will come where I will play these back to back it's a fantastic game but for me tears of the kingdom is 10 times better which is saying something considering how much I loved breath of the Wild tears of the kingdom is a masterpiece okay logically speaking if I loved breath of the wild and believed that it was a knockout game and then also believe its sequel is far better improving infinitely upon an already phenomenal game in my estimate then of course I believe the sequel is a masterpiece yet that is not always taken too well I'm not talking about those who simply disagree that's fair but I mean some serious heat when I say tears of the kingdom is a masterpiece I say that with my own standards in mind and to assume my standards must be super low in order to consider it a masterpiece is kind of acting like a toddler throwing a tantrum how dare I have my own thoughts and standards frankly it's difficult to put objective rules and standards to figure out what is considered a true Legendary game I mean you can argue there are some but I'm not getting into that right now the populace feels arrain of time was one of the greatest games of all time but for someone else they will truly not sympathize what's wrong with that well it's the opposite here I know the criticisms this game is receiving and will forever get most of which are critiques I don't agree with so naturally I will favor it highly this is such a subjective thought line that I suppose all I can say in summary is yes I think tears of the kingdom is a masterpiece and I know most do not share this feeling that's [Music] okay the story was fantastic all right this one is going to draw flies and the thing is I do understand the frustrations people have with the story but I loved it okay look I have two main critiques the fact that we had to access it via memory again and also that it could have been easily set to be seen in order though I found the quest to see them in order fairly easily other than that I loved this plotline I loved the characters I loved how emotionally gripping it was I was so invested I cried I wanted to scream with both dronification absolute best final stage of a final boss in any Zelda game I have ever played lore inconsistencies huh welcome to Zelda feels made up on the spot have you read Hyrule Historia and Hyrule encyclopedia or listened to any developer interview English translation left a lot to be desired maybe but also have you ever translated something not just to match the original but also lip flaps for the voice actors my point is feel these feelings you're having but if you try to use points like these in an attempt to convince me the story sucked you're wasting your breath or your fingers as you type I loved this story and have no shame about it nor should I so were these that unpopular depends on the crowd I guess but my experience has been that everything I've talked about is not common thought regardless whether you agree with these opinions or not I think they're fun to discuss in civil conversations thank you so
