hey guys welcome back to the great outdoors channel today we're looking at the camper again i've got a couple of quick hacks we're gonna go through uh shouldn't be too long of a video but something that uh you know maybe to give you guys some idea things you can do on your camper so we're going to go ahead and take the cover off here and get started if you're following along in the series i had a video here before where we did some initial work and repairs to the camper we took some crossbars that were off the top here they went from here and there's another one on the other side there they were all pretty well rusted out there was three of them so we took all those off and it cleaned up pretty nicely i left these on because they're pretty well intact they're not going anywhere and their previous owner had them caulked pretty well so they're not leaking i'm just gonna leave them alone let sleeping dogs sleep on that one we had a green grass mat on top there we got rid of that it was big and heavy replaced it with a nice lightweight one and then we went through and made repairs to this on three of the four of these and uh after a season this is holding up pretty well uh to fix up the clamps there it was all right underneath there and the previous owner just you know they didn't fix it they just caulked the hell out of these and you know they weren't gonna hold up so there was ratchet straps holding the top down and you know that wasn't going to work and now we don't need ratchet straps anymore it uh you know it works well nothing wrong with them and again after season they're holding up pretty well between that video and the start of this video i had an awning that was here that we removed uh this camper is 32 years old at the time making this video so after 32 years it just wasn't great anymore and the previous owner didn't have all of the hardware for it anymore not really sure what happened they tried they did have this pvc tube here with some extra uh poles in there uh which was a good idea and you know i kept it there because i may put other stuff in there but uh the cobble together poles just didn't hold up the canopy and well last time with camping we tried it it was a complete failure so we just took it off you know now you know we just have a separate coleman you know rather large uh you know detached canopy that you get at you know camping world or any of those places that just sits in front it's big enough to cover the entire area here if you have a camp kitchen and you know coolers and tables and stuff out here and covers it up pretty well [Music] i'm only partially set up today i didn't do the legs or anything like that uh and i'm not going to set up the full canvas just want to show this quick couple of hacks and we're going to pack it back up because we're going to head out camping here soon so inside the camper kind of your typical pop-up camper there's a kitchenette that sits here and uh table and chairs or an extra bed that sits under here and just as your typical camp kitchens this flips up and sits here and then there's a stove that will rest in here let's see if i can get that a couple of connections here use it the right way [Music] it sits in there and you got a shield now this stove can also attach outside as an attachment point and uh as nice as that looks it's a simple stove it works the sink is oh it's a little pump sink let me grab the camera and i'll show you guys a little better view three burners a couple of controls here a little bit of a shield to keep your curtains from starting on fire this thing's pretty simple it's just a little pump i see a lot of folks we'll put a little water tank underneath here and hook that up from there but honestly i'm never going to use this part of it is i'm probably never have a water source for the uh for the sink and i really don't like the design i see folks put a regular faucet on there and that's kind of slick but you know i'm not gonna do it uh i'd rather have the counter space uh secondly and i know you can't see here i'll show a still of this but i've got a really nice cabela's outdoor camp kitchen that i set up right on the outside of the door here and i've got a black stone a really nice black stone uh cooktop uh and that's where we do our cooking at if i'm not using that then i'm using this guy over the fire uh this works extremely well and so i've got you know two other quick surfaces i really don't need a third [Music] and again i'd rather have the counter space additionally when you guys saw this flip down here and you have to flip it down to get underneath this track here so your beds can [Music] slide in on both sides to compact the trailer but anyway it takes up a lot of space here that i could you know i got all kinds of other stuff here i could do storing right here and uh so like i said we're gonna disassemble this and we're going to take it out it looks like it's just a couple of hinges so it should be pretty simple flipping this back over looks like it's just one long hinge i've got it's like four screws i got to take out of this surface here and then i have to contend with some of these wires and uh i'll take a closer look here at amount but i'm probably just going to disconnect them wherever it's convenient and just bury them here in this hole this way i can always go back and get them if i ever have to down the road if i want to return it back to stock i can do that if i want to sell this thing if the new owner wants it they can have it my drill set up here and uh let's hope these don't strip [Music] easy peasy here's one two [Music] at least i use decent screws and this particular camper is a 1990 so uh got some ears on it still pretty good shape for what it is a little more there we go so looking at this you know what other than a couple screw holes that's really really clean good deal this part of the disconnection is going to be pretty easy and straightforward just have a pair of channel locks here loosen this guy up that comes out this guy just uh it's got a hose clamp here so this is pulled out no big deal a pair of snips here carefully get that and run this through and hopefully i can run this through with that fitting on there it's going to be tight i think we can get it there we go it just takes a little influence tools this is completely free to take out like i was saying i think i'm just going to bury these for now you can always get in here and retrieve them later if i need to repurpose them for something i'm not sure what that would be but they will be here there we go and we're gonna take uh some kind of cleaner and clean this up a little bit [Music] so it's cleaned up pretty well still have a couple of holes here out to contend with not sure what i'm gonna do with those yet if i'm gonna take this board off and replace it or try to lay something over it but uh the hole here that we put the plumbing through and then of course this was a drain where a sink would have been but for now i'm going to leave it because once i put these guys on here and i'll probably line a few of them up it's not really going to matter again the idea here is to get a nice countertop to put things like this to put things like contact solution and eyeglasses and you know soap and whatever that happens to be and just have one more spot you know to put all those things and now that i don't have it in the travel position taking up the space here i can now take some most or all i'm not sure what it's going to be in but stuff that's here in the aisle way i can relocate here and give myself a little more space to either walk around through here or to put more stuff camping always do more stuff now just because we took this out of the camper and again i did that because i want a space in the camper we got three four or five people sleeping in there i just need to counter space and you know we're not going to cook in there that's just us right you may think otherwise anyway point being we took this out it doesn't mean you have to throw in the garbage you can do what we're doing here and this is just an example but i got on my tailgate you can put this inside of the gate when you're done uh you can hook up a propane tank uh very easily to the cooktop you put the tank you know inside or on the ground whatever you think is safe hook up a water tank inside the uh the bed here or you know next to it whatever that is right you can tailgate with this thing you can uh simply have a folding table and set it on there although i would recommend something with metal because this can get hot the truck bed will take that a little bit better um but anyway you don't have to throw it away you can repurpose it do whatever you want with it [Music] next up is to do a few updates to the outlets inside the camper the previous owner put one of these really really nice adapters in that you can get and uh i'm being sarcastic there but hey they work you know walmart menards home depot lowe's we have the other couple bucks and they work now what i really wanted to do was update this face on here but this is uh kind of unique outlet it looks like a house style outlet but it's not there's a couple of screws here as you can see and they operate little flaps above and below it they keep this entire unit uh into this panel here so it's not as simple as taking the plate off and just put a new face on there maybe a new you know receptacle what have you uh you gotta replace the entire unit or you can put another adapter on there and i've got this guy here turn right side up uh i got this at i got this on amazon i'll put the link below and uh it's just what you see here it's got three usba's and one usbc it's got a bunch of receptacles on here and what's also kind of nice is the receptacles are spaced further apart than your standard outlet and certainly further apart than what it took out of here and uh they were pretty inexpensive i think i got this for somewhere between 11 and 12 bucks that's what the back looks like and it's just literally gonna press in now if this was a house style outlet here there's a little green light that'll illuminate if i have the camper plugged in i don't at the moment but you can plug a screw in here into that plate if you have one that'll accept it and that'll really keep this here you know nice and solid but even just plugged in it it's pretty solid so instead of having you know this with you know another adapter coming out of here you know what my family and i usually call a cube and then a usb coming out of that you know it really kind of sticks out here you know this you can just plug that adapter right on this and be square and if you do have another cube or something you want to plug in or a fan or something you could plug it in on the side and uh you know it's got a little more out of the way it's a little nicer and uh you know a nice little update to the camper the next thing i have for you is this step rug it's just basically what you see right here uh we got this at menards i think we spent around 10 bucks for it if amazon happens to have it i'll try to find that put a link down below but this one should be relatively easy to put together now here's something pretty cool and maybe you guys knew this i was not expecting it but they came with these little springs to keep it keep it attached so let's see if we can figure that out now already this is a little bit bigger than what my brackets have so i may have to trim that a little bit i may just be able to squeeze it on see how this goes here i may just be able to fold that okay i think i can just fold that just uh make made to do that now i'm gonna have to get a little weird here and get underneath slightly so i can see what i'm doing or i can just take it off there we go i think we can do it just like that get that spring hooked back in there there we go let's see it looks like it will scratch that one not too much issue do the same thing here a couple of nice grommets here that's not going to go anywhere just fold it in pretty nicely i could again take a little knife maybe a little slit there but we'll try it just the way it is and here we go something to keep it from slipping and something really to kind of wipe your feet on and the last hack for the day is one of these covers this is a particular one i have you can get these i'm pretty sure at camping world you could probably get them at uh amazon as well uh i'll put the link down there if i find it but the uh cover actually came from the previous owner i just wasn't using it and figured you know i probably should it does a reasonably good job of keeping moisture rain uh definitely the leaves and stuff i got a bunch of trees like everywhere uh does a good job keeping leaves off and hopefully in this winter coming up the next couple of months hopefully later than sooner i like summer months a lot better because i get to use stuff like this but anyway keep snow off of there so there's some tie-downs there at the bottom you can use to uh you know wrap um a cord up underneath and tie it up and secure it really nicely it's not meant to travel with so if your travel take the cover off it's meant to store so keep that in mind and just get one that's big enough and it covers everything this case it it covers the uh spare tire and covers the uh propane holder here in the front not that i got a tank on there but it will cover it should i put one on there so another hack for another day clean that guy up maybe put a cover on it so there you go there's a hack for today if you like this video consider liking and subscribing helps the channel out and stay tuned for more videos
