Police take wrong-way driver crash on purpose to protect others

pretty often it's the middle of the night it's bar closing time the drunks are out not a lot of people are driving that's when the calls are coming in for the wrong way drivers information you have most of the time is that they're drunk they're asleep at the wheel you do have a possibility of stopping them so you take the best route you have with the options you have take as many lanes as you can watch yourself watch yourself [Music] all right we got them coming at us dispatch we decided to take the center lane and keep our push bumper facing them and you just see the headlights coming and you're coming fast you know 80 miles an hour it's on you like that i think on the unedited video there's some choice words [Applause] i credit sergeant deboer with really saving me because in preventing a head-on collision he turned into the impact and gave it a glancing blow that ripped one of the wheels off the truck that struck us and continued for two miles further south in the northbound lane before the vehicle was completely disabled and stopped by other officers you just know that that's what you're what's coming you really don't have another choice i mean you could you could pull off and let him hit a citizen you know but that's not why we're here so the goal is that he wakes up if he's asleep or he sees the headlights and stops the car so we can put ourselves there but it's up to him to not hit us you
