lovely beautiful talented Maya okay and my lovely friends hun and Arya that are here with me today to visit Maya's animal sanctuary I'm sure you guys already know of it but please tell us more what is this money going towards and are we raising the C yes hello everybody thanks for being here my name is Maya hi I'm a streamer I also am the executive director of alvea sanctuary where we are right now so pokey's here and Hun's here and arya's here and I'm going to introduce them to a bunch of animal friends teach them about them teach you about them if you guys have questions you can ask them and I will answer those questions as best I can and we're a nonprofit so we rescue a bunch of non-releasable animals and then do education programs with them here so if you're donating you're donating to support the care of those animals and the continuation of the programs so thank you can you tell them about the new ant yes we our newest uh ambassadors are two wolves that we're rescuing and we're building them a giant enclosure you guys will see the progress on the enclosure they're getting here May 4th um are wolves endangered uh some of them are yeah there's like Mexican Red Wolves there's only there's less than 10 in the wild like 10 individuals yeah my goodness wow yeah so it'll be some really cool education we be able to do with them and give them a sick home today it's I'm going to the table front I think I'm not I'm not actually crazy when we got Georgie he was like um he was real small like he could fit in my hand and he getting too big for people to like hold him how old is Georgie especially the ladies he's he's like oh that's nice God he's so soft and chy I think it's CU I'm used to holding my big chunky cat isn't he like a whoopy cushion look at that ass d a little bit of wood chips on your face Georgie oh my God he cute you got to clean up so this is an African bullfrog they're amphibians and they have semi-permeable skin so he can soak things up through his skin which is awesome cuz he'll stay buried for like 10 months out of the year but if we touch him with bad things he'll soak that in and as human beings we're just filled with toxins and plastic and endocrine disrup Peres and moisturizers that he don't need you don't e all that you natural also to pollutants for that reason cuz they can soak things up he's back up back I love him I'll put him down he's a cute he's so cute I want to hold him are frogs um not the best pets in the sense of like you're just better off not trying to get one I don't think they make great pets they're so fun though I wouldn't recommend but I feel like they would have a bad time being your pet you know what I mean like does anything feel good for for him like no not like they don't feel anything good okay not a physical touch boy can I just touch one yes yes yes he look but he's not guys it's like a pickle it's like a pickle well yeah he is giving pickle honestly yeah it kind of is but cucumber pickle frogs not all frogs are toads L uh yeah this is an African bullfrog it's the second largest frog species in the world it's about as big as he'll get wow W yeah he's a big guy you a picture of Georgie as a baby he's about three years old three how big can a frog and or toad get the Goliath bullfrog is the biggest and I think it's probably like not that much bigger but you know imagine that like on where where where does he have balls uh internally yes oh they're inside his poops are huge like shockingly big for his size like a finger like bigger I like a fat finger oh my God the but hole is so small yeah chat's seen it there are clips of him pooping he's famous for he's famous for really so it doesn't disconnect yeah that's great so they're like pissed at him cuz he can't do it oh no he did pregnancy test when did you when did you cut out I was saying had out a little bit before okay okay okay guys pregnancy tests we now pee on a stick right we have disposable sticks to pee on before we had those we would inject urine into the backs of frogs and if the pregnancy hormone was there the Frog would lay eggs that's how we used to test for frog used to be our peas sticks yeah exactly is that animal abuse yeah yeah I think I would know why someone else is ur than me I don't want to beef with any Queens in the 1970s but yeah yeah so they would import a bunch of frogs to uh use as pregnancy test and then a bunch of them got out and it spread a lot of disease so now there's a lot of frogs with a a pathogen worldwide called krid um so 33% of amphibians worldwide are at risk very sad and then also pollutants they're really sensitive remember with like they soak it up so if there's trash in a lake or a creek or something they're going to suck it up through their skin you look sick my dude yeah he's a he's pretty sick he's a fan favorite for sure like he's a handsome fella this is a problem this is the first guy we met she's out here like taking the little hairs away from his eyes so this is mucus um or that's actually not that's fiber but the this is mucus that's dried up a little bit so they can cover themselves he said give me 5et so this is like frog booger yeah kind of um so they'll cover themselves in mucus uh and it helps with water retention cuz they have to stay Mo M George can you show them see there's some mucus yum yeah that's nice Georgie wow he's um his favorite food is snails he loves snails he L he just like eat it whole with the shell and all crunchy he loves little worms he loves little bugs um one of the things that I talk about with skinks is that a s model is that you use pesticides and then the bug eats the pesticide and then the lizard eats the bug then they eat the pesticide and they die so we want to try to avoid chemical pesticides as much as you guys can use natural ptici mhm I see yeah you guys want to here you want me to transfer yeah sure toast you can without pulling your hair out oh he likes you I don't even want you know he likes you so much hi sweetie yay toast it is so blue wow I I love how he kind of like licks to see where he's going yeah so they smell with their tongue like a snake I didn't I actually never knew that yeah um so he's catching particles on his tongue and then puts it back into his mouth he's got an organ on the roof of his mouth he has ear holes he does have ear holes it just like a hole into his skin uhhuh I guess our ears are kind of like that they got some [ __ ] around you know like the hole is not so direct yeah he's this looks like a gaping wound I don't think he liked the taste of me he licked me and then he kept his tongue in there for a while he's like I'm not sure about that one he said no he is so like lovely he is he Lov we got toast from another Zoo he was in with other skinks I don't know if you can tell but his brothers and sisters ate his tail like the end of it oh I see where was a little but then it fully grew back it did wo saved um but he couldn't live with them anymore cuz they ate his so now he's here yeah [ __ ] those guys you deserve better deserve cut off that toxic family you want to you can probably passive yes are snakes how do I good bad pets I the mean girl at my high school had a snake oh hater but I know she kind of did it cuz it was like I have a snake you know but watch out I'm that girl I also wouldn't recommend snakes to most people I they're actually way more complicated than people think like you have to oh my God thank you for and another $50 and another five from Lyn thank you guys so much thank you thank thank you thank you um you have to regulate like their temperature and humidity and like they have special substrate people probably don't no they just like put him in a tank and they're like much is this technically like normal behavior like being this dosa or being chill skinks are generally pretty chill I think toast is one of the chillest okay that I've met but they're all pretty chill he's so [ __ ] cool yeah I'm like maybe it's a you thing maybe you're just good I mean like in the wild you would not be chill like they can bite it really hard has eye shadow on like his Lids are purple yeah like do you see just the lid is purple and he blinks can you blink no like you can on the top oh on that side more so he's I will not toast likes her love cute just in one eye that's with him winking that's his Riz right there he's winking what a good boy chat do you guys have any questions about toast this is a blue tongue skink in Australian lizard endangered no uh least concern I think at the moment I have a stupid question okay no question stupid until you hear it um so for an animal sanctuary you know in my mind it was like oh it's for endangered animals is it just for Animals period how do you decide what animals to keep or not that is not a stupid question it's a really good question yeah um it depends some of them kind of fall into our lap and need a home and as long as they have a conservation story that we think needs to be projected um we usually take them in so this one is we talk about pesticide use we talk about the pet trade a little bit how siblings can be so mean mhm exactly yeah that's that's the messaging for toast siblings suck um so yeah it depends it depends on on what their conservation messaging is we have endangered species here we have some that are least concerned which ones I'm so curious we have an African gray she's endangered we have a taurise endangered carrot oh oh you do know a lot oh my God he shed on me oh little little to show you something what this toast sheds you know how snake shed in like one long piece toast sheds in Parts this like a fish is one of toast Mitten sheds these are literally gloves yeah please they perfect like Michael Jackson gloves a little Mitten can you guys tell little Mitten W little mittens mittens mittens so cute they're so cute there you go PR you should keep these so you know yeah we yeah she's really cool I [ __ ] with snakes no patchy today patchy's getting fed this week um patchy's just a smaller snake that we have what do you mean fed this week like they need to go away to be fed no she's just getting fed tomorrow so she might be a little more like I love her eyes oh hungry yeah her eyes are beautiful oh my God pretty girl o beautiful so a few cool things about her face cuz you're looking at it so close um she smells with her tongue just like the skink um she's going to show you so she sticks out her tongue catches particles smells that way she's got all those holes on the sides of her mouth um it she let me show you that no um like here maybe it's actually kind of hard to see um so those are pit organs for heat sensing so she can like see a heat signature almost while she's um looking for prey which is very cool keep holding her so she doesn't fall she's like a train but take your time sweetie she's got a sad face on her wait I see it oh my God you know got a sad face on her head I don't know if you guys could see that it's kind of cute she love her dude she's so elegant like wow yeah she's beauti beautiful huh so she came from a zoo another zoo in California um and they only fed her inside her enclosure so then anytime someone walked by her enclosure she thought she was getting fed so she would like strike at the glass thinking she was going to eat and so they thought that she was mean yeah but it was just cuz she wanted to eat and so I feel like that's very stupid of them yeah maybe an excuse people who should know more about animals cuz we're taking care of animalss yeah it was really sad um but now like classic conditioning you know yeah but now she's here she has a great time it's nice having this many people to hold her she's got like a whole playground right now it's kind of cool it's a jungle gym do you guys have snake questions does she still do that no she doesn't she EA good here that's why is this the tallest she'll get yes this is it for her probably she's about 8T long it's about it how old is she we don't know exactly cuz she came from another facility but probably at least 10 years old um so you know like what do they call snake dancers or something the people with the flutes yes is that a real thing I don't know if it has anything to do with the music or it's just that the snakes are like amped Up by someone like doing something I don't know actually I either she's a carpet python carpet python carpet python space could you check the LIF span on a carpet python did you guys name her noodle uh chat named her noodle I should have we should have named it ourselves she could have had a way cooler name but that's what chat wanted so very creative 15 to 20 years old in the wild so she can probably live up to like 35 in captivity oh so it's better in captivity for them yeah they pretty much all animal species live longer under human care where do they live this is an Australian snake how much do you feed the snake daily so snakes like her are eating actually she went on a crazy Hunger Strike and didn't eat for what was it like 6 months wow DN living for six months yeah reptiles are weird Legend our smaller snake patchy I think is on once every other week or so maybe she's on once a week you'd have to ask her Animal Care staff uh noodle is eating like once every few months is our Dream but it's a lot less than that yeah yeah yeah can I ask a aent huh yeah how long huh he just said her name sorry oh can I ask a potentially controversial question yeah okay so you know like the bags and clothing items made out of mhm are they actually are they sometimes fake well sometimes fake just like Furs right but are they like the high-end ones are they usually real snake skin probably that's yeah they have a hole actually it's in Texas right Sweetwater the rattlesnake round up there's a rattlesnake Round Up in Texas and they just like collect like thousands of rattlesnakes from the wild and then just like literally just Cho their HS off and like skin that you're good um and skin them and yeah they use their skins for like boots and bags and stuff and um the persecution of snakes goes way back people hate snakes um but their skin does feel very nice that's why people want snake skin right because they're really smooth and have really yeah but pretty patterns this is going to be gross uh it sounds better it's it feels better alive I think no for sure I yeah cuz you have to hydrate it this feels like nothing else and I think um it should stay alive you know what I mean someone said it's a rattlesnake kill them all first of all cringe okay second of all yeah first of all cringe yeah second of all uh they're actually really snakes are really awesome for our environment they're natural chemical free rodent control Pest Control um they're really good at that obviously because they eat rodents you're not going to go up there I know you want to um and they just they help balance food webs for us in the wild very important just like the ecosystem see of all animals they keep everything in check balance in balance as things should be yeah also maybe not on purposes them regulating rodent populations helps us with preventing the spread of diseases that come from rodents so should we kill all rodents what's the vibe okay no rodents also have their own also have their own ecological niche bless their hearts hey guys go here's nle if anyone kills them it should be the snakes mhm so there's her her pit organs the little holes on the side her mouth she's smelling with her tongue her pretty eyeballs oh no her eyes are my favorite new doll she's amazing oh wow the eyes I just can't unsee the sad face on her head it's like bold that's pretty depressing I isopods as well these are like your Mediterranean isopods so it's called a zebra isopod cuz they're stripy like these wait I'll bring I'll show you more I used to live with these guys I had a house maybe not okay oh yeah well I was very poor and then we we lived underneath someone's basement and it was infested with these guys so my sister and I would just play with them all day we called it nich any I mean when I was a kid I used to always play with them too just cuz uh oh yeah know I live with these guys I wake up to them played with them at night time iods come in all different colors just in case I put on too much sunscreen this is consent I don't want to I don't want to force it you could try just like with your hand out no but like I put it earlier and they're like literally poor guy it little antenna started go yeah no I have a lot of scents on my hand so iods there's over 10,000 species they're actually Crustaceans um not so they're related to to shrimpies I was going to say I ate a lot of those today yeah if uh if you were allergic to shrimp if you ate these you would be allergic to these as well kind of crazy oh um this is they range from being like this small it's fine it got on its back I thought it was going to die they they range from being this small to this big uh Marine isap sorry that big volume control volume indoor voice Marine isopods can get to be this size what they doing that big like wait patrolling the SE are they edible yes I knew it because what you ate one that big no no no no no in Vietnam they had one of those guys just laying out bu e and I was like oh hell no that does not look like a lobster what happened to that guy they're like it's not it's not Lobster yeah Marine isopods are this size pretty cool um they have their lungs are right here on their bellies uh same with these guys you won't be able to see it cuz they're so small but on their bellies they have lungs called plal lungs and they stay moist and they do gas exchange on the outside of their body gas exchange which is kind of cool farting breathing oh oh breathing I think he's avoiding it he's literally I knew it it has to do with the sunscreen how should beef demand um which actually leads to deterioration of the it's it's a serious layer yeah it's a serious issue for our climate so I always tell people you don't have to be vegan that's kind of it's a lot but uh if you want to make like a small change start making a change in your daily choices eating less beef is a great start really yeah yes the emissions from something like chicken are so much lower yeah than than beef are there any like any labels on meat or dairy or animal byproducts that are better than others my Chatters will have them and I'm forgetting what they are I think certified Humane for beef definitely certified Humane for eggs and then is pasturised a good or like what kind of egg labels are good pasturas is good on eggs if certified goes with it but pasturas alone isn't only way period 12 you kind of they'll only lay 12 eggs twice a year um and Commercial layers layers will lay over 300 eggs a year and that's all artificial selection for moons or oh yeah so we have just like cranked out laying hens that lay an egg every day but naturally like any other bird they would just lay two seasons a year oh my goodness how do they make them lay more eggs um just like a long long course of artificially selecting chickens that lay more eggs oh so they've breeded them too oh that's kind of it's pretty crazyd it's like you're picking the genetically different one and his back legs uh they both had Metabolic Bone Disease um and malnutrition and vitamin D deficiencies cuz they didn't get sunlight and he had dental disease he's had more than half of his teeth removed
