Pod of Killer Whales Hunt a Dolphin Stampede

whenever dolphins and whales appear in false Bay local Skipper Dave herwitz will be there with them Dave runs the Bay's most exciting whale watching business the Simon toown boat company he's witnessed the killer whale spectacle almost every year since it began his first sighting in 2009 occurred right beside his boat we were out the one day and we were following some Dolphins who were swimming along and feeding quite happily when suddenly out of the blue we just heard this allmighty blast of air and four kows just appeared the Dolphins went into an immediate frenzy and felted off in the opposite direction but at that stage we still weren't sure what was going on were the orcas perhaps just playing with them were they trying to frighten them away where they're trying to steal their food and then suddenly they grouped up into a formation and they started moving towards the Dolphins and the whole scene just sped up dramatically and then suddenly we just saw this one or leap straight up into the air amongst the Dolphins and they went absolutely berserk so did we on board the boat we didn't know what we were watching Dave's photos show exactly what happened they were actually coming up behind the Dolphins and breaching right down into the center of the Pod and uh we captured this shot that uh just absolutely blew us away these animals are 6 seven tons they moving at 35 M hour uh they're just giving the Dolphins absolutely no chance whatsoever I'd never seen anything quite like that the excitement on board was just beyond Hysteria people were going berserk and uh we watched this whole thing unfold in front of us which was quite amazing uh but then we saw and it almost happened in slow motion when one unsuspecting dolphin was Spy Hopping out the water and from nowhere this Ora just came along and just grabbed it there you can see clearly that the uh orcas grabbed the dolphin pulled it under the the water there was a bloodstream that followed it and then the other oras moved in and they obviously shared it but that was the moment that we realized that they're here for the purpose of hunting the Dolphins
