hey what's up everyone this is ill factor from beat Academy calm and in this video I want to spotlight a new plugin by waves called OV ox now OVA is a great vocal processing plug-in but brings a lot more to the table than just simply vocoding your vocals box combines several processing sections and pitch correction doubling automatic harmonization and chord building from voice signals can easily be achieved with this plugin so let's go ahead and dive right in and take it for a spin so let me walk you through setting up box in your projects so I want to affect my vocal track with a Vox so what I've done is just simply insert the OU Vox plugin directly on the track that I want to be affected I'm also going to be blending in the affected track with my Drive vocals so my Drive vocals are here in green and I duplicated that track and right underneath it in blue is going to be the same vocal track but this is going to be processed with the OU Vox plug-in so let's take a listen to those vocals I've been having a lot of fun being able to use this plug-in to tweak these vocals and had some really cool character in life to this project so at first glance we have box 1 and OU Vox 2 and these are your two main processing units and two oscillators that you're going to be using to shape and manipulate the sound and the controls here are pretty straightforward yet your tuning [Music] change the format [Music] [Applause] and the game but you can actually go more in depth by pressing this button to expand the plug-in and you can get more in depth of adding all the parameters you want to shape the sound so you can add more harmonics or less add some noise or take them off you can choose the character of the oscillator by clicking this drop-down menu and choosing any one of the selections that they give you we'll start at classic [Music] let's go through a couple of them commis cool adds a little bit more of the harmonics they're a little present they can now shape the actual we can change the shape of the oscillator here [Music] that's cool and we can add a little bit of noise now so far we've been using the internal synth engine to manipulate the oscillators here and use that to generate the tone of the sound but you can also set this to track and that will bypass the actual oscillators but still allow you to manipulate the sound using all the other parameters such as using the format filter tuning padding and all the noise and filters and things like that so you don't necessarily have to have that the synth or the internal set of trigger to get that vocoder thing but you can also use this to manipulate and come up with really cool sound designing tools for vocals or anything for that matter so I'm going to go back to internal mother where you can also side chain you can get this from an external source as well the synth but we're leave that internal here and were to focus our attention on this middle section here there's note mapper now the note mapper allows you to map out the notes you actually want to be triggered once the signals being processed into the synth so let me break it down like this right now we're in the key of D flat and then what I'm gonna do is I can choose scale or I can say natural minor and so if I hit the edit here it's gonna allow all the notes that belong in the D flat natural minor scale but right now what's happening is my MIDI track is triggering this plugin so it's playing the chords that I specifically want so I can go over here to determine where the notes or what's the source that the notes are coming from I can take it off MIDI and set it to voice now once we hit note mapper it's just gonna focus in on the notes that are that fit this filter so it's only allowing the notes that belong in this minor scale now what we can do is go over here and hit chords let's try EDM minor one so it's cool it allows you to just lock in and focus on on the notes that you want to be triggered and there are many different chords and scales and harmonies let's say you want to add a major seventh to this you can determine the note here to start from so very very cool that you can do that you can also enable an our page hitter that comes on board the box so if we go octave up this will allow you to now create intervals between the notes that you are selected so what I'm gonna do is gonna go out of voice and choose MIDI so and then take the note mapper off and with the arpeggiator on it's gonna play the notes that I'm playing on my MIDI track that are triggering the synth and just add an arpeggiator to that it's pretty neat so let me show you how I'm setting this up with a MIDI track so here I have a MIDI track playing the chords that I want during that time where the vocal was being performed here are the notes here what I've done is in the MIDI track in Ableton Live I've routed the output of this MIDI track to the VOC code Vox which is the name of the blue track here that has the vocal Aero box plug-in on there and then once I've done that it'll automatically select a Vox stereo because it's the only plug-in that's on this track that can be triggered by a MIDI track so once that's selected any note that I trigger on this track will affect the ovals and the notes that choose what to play hope that makes sense so you could do it either way you don't have to have a MIDI track to do this you can actually choose the source to be the voice or Otto and you can actually map out the notes that you want or experiment with some of the really cool harmonies scales and chords that come with it or create your own library of unique individual chords that you can use and this is a great way to actually just add a lot of those nice lush harmonics and really good to have like nice backing vocals type vibe over a lead vocal so let me show you what I mean I'm gonna play the track with the OU Vox plugin on it layered with the dry vocals let me just play it in the track with everything else [Music] so it's just a really cool way to get those nice like backing harmony type fives and it's it's a technique that I love implementing in my productions now also you notice here on the bottom you can add effects to the signal so you can click over here and choose from the plug-in list here auto pan chorus compressor delay distortion limiter and reverb and you can go ahead and assign where they're gonna be in the flow of things here with the plugins so that is really neat then you have an onboard EQ to actually shape the tone of the processed signal then you also have some modulations that can be mapped and routed to any parameter so simply click and drag to any knob or a parameter that's glowing in blue and then you could control that with that modulation so let's say we wanted to just modulate the harmonics so I would click that and then click the m1 and increase the value how much that modulation will take effect for the harmonics and then you could set the rate here and let's go ahead and solo that so that can you have a modulator too that can also be mapped to something else modulator 3 with has another LFO or you can actually sequence this and so it's really powerful to be able to use any of these to create some nice nuances within the texture of the sound then you also have your amp one envelope and amp two envelope that can be assigned to these parameters here so you just click that and they would change from a 1 to a 2 and that determines which amp envelope is being assigned to control that parameter then you have your amplitude pitch and format like an all be controlled here so a little bit more than just the average vocoder plugin there's a lot of things here that you could use to manipulate the sound and get what you're looking for I've been having a lot of fun using it in this project and plan on using a lot more throughout my projects as well May for more information about this plugin just simply click the link below in
