(PS5 beeps) (gentle electronic music) - Of the new console's this holiday, people seem to be more
excited about the PlayStation. It could be because Sony is giving you some good reasons to want to upgrade. It could also be some good
old fashioned brand loyalty. I'm sure you already know, but if you didn't pre-order one by now, it's gonna be really hard to get your hands on a PlayStation 5. So is it worth going
through all that trouble and the hefty price tag
to play the latest games? What can you do with the
PlayStation 5 right now to justify all that? (upbeat electronic music) This video is sponsored by reading. (dramatic music) Reading is knowledge. Knowledge Knowledge is power. Power. But you can only read for so long. Your focus is limited. (flame whooshing) Well, that's where Audible comes in. With Audible you can spend
more time expanding your mind with literally every "Halo" novel. A seemingly endless
scroll of "Halo" novels. And obviously, other stuff. Now is the time to try Audible Plus which gives you full
access to the Plus catalog filled with thousands of select originals, audiobooks, and podcasts. Including ad-free
versions of popular shows as well as exclusive series. Go to Audible.com/WULFFDEN or
text a WULFF DEN to 500-500 And with the holiday offer it's only 4.95 a month
for your first six months. Again, that's Audible.com/WULFFDEN or text a WULFF DEN to 500-500. Or just go to the link
in the description below. And thank you Audible for
helping support this channel in these uncertain times. Of course, the main selling
point here is the true 4K gaming and the high framerate. I talked a lot about that in
my Xbox Series X and S video. And a lot of that still applies here. I talked mostly about 4K and 120 hertz and HDMI 2.1. Basically, unless you have a
TV that has an HDMI 2.1 port you can forget about all of that. Also, 120 hertz isn't really
that mind-blowing anyway. It sounds exactly like a PS4. (PS5 whirring) To be fair, I didn't put a disc in the Series X.
- Press any button on your controller. - Okay. Okay. It's worth noting that the PlayStation 5 doesn't support 1440P at all. At least, not yet, until Sony
releases a planned update. So if you have one of those
1440P 120-hertz monitors, you're not gonna get the most out of that. At least not yet. This is a big boy. (box thuds) Jesus. This is possibly the biggest
console I have ever owned. It's also not exactly ergonomic. It requires this stand in
order to stand up straight or to even lay down flat. It's not gonna seamlessly fit
inside your TV or desk setup. You're going to have
to clear a path for it (objects clattering)
(glass smashing) Much like the Xbox, there are
two versions of this console, one with a disc drive and one without. Unlike the Xbox, the diskless
one is only $100 cheaper. If you plan on going
all-digital, this is great news. It's way easier to just download a game off of the PlayStation Store than it is to go to the store and buy one. Plus, it takes up less physical space. If you're on the fence
about going all digital, you should note that physical games are often significantly cheaper. You'll usually get a better
deal at a big box retailer than you would on
PlayStation's own storefront. So there's pros and cons to both. If you were looking for me
to make a decision for you then (beeps) bad. PlayStation also added the
PlayStation Plus Collection as an added perk to
PlayStation Plus subscribers who own a PlayStation 5. It's cheaper than the Xbox's
Game Pass since it's included in your existing PlayStation
Plus subscription. But it's library is
way, way less extensive. Sony usually does have
better free games every month for PlayStation Plus subscribers. This month is "Bugsnax", a highly anticipated cult
PlayStation 5 launch titles. So if you have a PlayStation
Plus subscription, you can start playing "Bugsnax" right away at no additional cost. If you have a PlayStation
Plus subscription, but you don't have a PS5 yet, you can still claim "Bugsnax" by going to the PlayStation
Store in a web browser. The PS5 does come with a pack-in
game, "Astro's Playroom". This is a wonderful platformer, created a show-off the
new DualSense controller. It's a cute little love letter
to the history of PlayStation and it's a real fun game. It doesn't feel like a tech demo at all. A lot of love was put
into this little game. It's as if Nintendo would
have packed in a Mario game with one of their consoles. That's how good "Astro's Playroom" is. The new controller, the
DualSense, is great. It's a massive step up
from the DualShock 4. It's larger and way more comfortable. It has a lot of great tech in there that is shown-off real
well in "Astro's Playroom", like adaptive triggers,
advanced haptic feedback, a microphone, a built-in speaker. All that. But anybody who says this would be better than the Joy-Con's HD rumble
is just flat out wrong. It almost feels exactly the same. In fact, in "1-2-Switch", you could feel the balls rolling
around inside the Joy-Con when there's not really any balls there. The DualSense controller can
almost do that but not really. It just didn't blow me away in the same way that HD rumble did. But much like HD rumble,
I'm sure not many developers are gonna utilize this
technology to its full capacity. Accept maybe Kojima in like
a throwaway Easter egg. Most of the DualSense's
feedback in "Astro's Playroom" is achieved through a
mixture of haptic feedback and audio coming out of
the DualSense's speaker. That's what really sells the sensations. The adaptive triggers
are super impressive. That's something I could
see being really useful to a lot of first-party developers. Much like the Xbox, there
are a lot of launch titles, but that's because almost
all of those launch titles are multi-platform. But, unlike the Xbox, there are some actual
real exclusives here. That's right, there's two
whole exclusive titles. "Demon's Souls" and
"Spider-Man: Remastered". And also "Astro's Playroom", we could throw that in there too. "Spider-Man" is like half of an exclusive and "Astro's playroom's"
like another half. They could be one whole. There's really like
five or six exclusives, it's just that most of those
games are also available on PlayStation 4. So there really is some merit to owning a PlayStation 5 right now, for
those great exclusive games. The flagship one being
"Spider-Man: Miles Morales". And it is a beautiful one. PlayStation doesn't have
a clear cut initiative to allow for last-gen games
to be transferred over like Xbox's Smart Delivery. So things are a little more confusing. But the important exclusives
like "Spider-Man", allow you to upgrade from
the PlayStation 4 version to the PlayStation 5 version. It's not as easy as just
plopping the disc in and having it work, but at least it's not
gonna cost you any money. So in my opinion, Sony is
giving you more reasons to get a console right now than Xbox is, but Xbox might be a
little more pro-consumer in that they're actively
trying to push developers to get onboard. So I wanna be very clear. There's a lot of really
cool technology here, but overall, you can't really utilize that much of that technology, so it's still a marginal
upgrade right now over a PS4. You won't really notice all the cool stuff until a little bit later. The UI is cool and different but I don't really think
that should be a reason for anyone to adopt early. I wanna stress again, the 4K 120 hertz isn't really a reason to upgrade either. Much like the Xbox Series X, the console will make
games look very very nice, but the difference, in my opinion, is not worth $500 right now. Maybe after a few more
exclusives hit the market. Unless, you know, you're
gonna upgrade eventually and you're not gonna wait
for the mid-cycle iteration that's not the size of a microwave. "Temporal techniques provide a 4K picture "from a lower-resolution base." Oh, that's the fanciest
way I've ever heard upscaled 4K. (laughs) If you have a PlayStation
4 already, in my opinion, one of the biggest reasons to upgrade might be the wifi card. The PlayStation 4, in particular, the original PlayStation
4, had a garbage wifi card. It purposely throttled your connection and it didn't even have an AC band Oh, yes, the PS4, especially with the launch
PS4's wifi card was trash. But this zooming. PlayStation 5 is more on
par with a modern laptop or modern wireless devices. So if your setup doesn't
allow for a wired connection you'd have a much better time with a PlayStation 5 than
an original PlayStation 4. I know that people are probably waiting for me to compare this directly
to the Xbox Series X and S. That comparison could take
up a whole video by itself and I feel like that's kind of pointless. By the end of watching these two videos, you should be able to tell which one you would want for yourself. Personally, I like
everything about the Xbox more than the PlayStation. I liked the controller more, even though it doesn't
have the same sort of tech. I just doubt developers are
really gonna utilize that stuff. It has slightly more hard drive space. I like the design of it more. The operating system. I like Game Pass. The only thing I like more about the PlayStation 5
are the exclusive games. And at the end of the day, all that really matters when
you're buying a new console are the games you're gonna play on it. So what do you guys think
about the PlayStation 5? Did you manage to get your hands on one? Is this the console you're
looking forward to this holiday? Do you want one or are you gonna hold off? 'Cause $500 is a lot of money. That's so many burritos. Are you trying to stick to
one console this generation or you spread the love to all of them? That's a lot of money. Leave it in the comments
below, @ me on Twitter, any and all this other
social media garbage. We got new videos here
at least once a week. Make sure you're subscribed
and turn on notifications so you know when those videos are here 'cause you don't wanna rely
on YouTube to tell you. And thank you all
Audible, I mean, reading, for helping support this channel
and sponsoring the video. So that I can afford to
tell you all about this very expensive machine. And if you'd like to see
it, go back in the box, you can go to YouTube.com/guythehair_ - No, it's just-
- Okay. I'm sorry. - But, of course, the most
important thing that you can do is just subscribe. Thank you very much. And share this video with a friend, a friend who was maybe thinking about getting one of these new consoles. Maybe they were on the fence. This might help them
out. Thank you very much. Have yourself a very good week.
