hi everybody it's leela from miss kiss creations welcome back to my channel today's tutorial i am going to be showing you how to put a clear water slide on a black tumbler before i get started with this tutorial i do want to give a shout out to courtney's customs i did get this idea and actually this technique from her channel so i want to just give credit where credit was due her video will be linked in my description below so thanks so much courtney i also want to go over some materials that i will be using to do this tutorial so what you see below is my 20 ounce stainless steel tumbler this is from maker flow crafts i sanded this tumbler down with 180 grit sanding block and then i wiped it down with 91 alcohol after i wiped it down with 91 alcohol i spray painted this tumbler with my rust-oleum satin black spray paint i typically like to use matte or flat but since i only have satin on hand i went ahead and i use the satin any brand will work for the spray paint so this tumbler is not epoxy this is just spray painted you can see it just dried and now i am ready to add the decal what you see below is just a halloween decal i wanted to keep it halloween since i know this time of year we like to work with darker cups or even black cups so this is what i wanted to show y'all now i will post a link in my description of where i purchased this decal from on etsy and i'll also post a link in the description of which waterslide paper i use from amazon i do want to mention that whenever i purchased this waterslide decal this is how it looked so i purchased the svg from etsy and then i downloaded on my laptop and then i uploaded in qriket design space and then if i would have just printed it out like i would any normal water slide decal and plan to uh put it on like a white or very light color this is how it would print out i added the black image on this image to this decal another thing is these decals or water slide images are mirrored so after you choose to print your decal and cricut design space it's just like using heat transfer vinyl you're going to mirror this the reason for that is whenever you place the decal or the image on the tumbler we're going to be placing this down like so instead of placing it up you can do this on white tumblers as well this is a lot easier especially if you are a beginner working with water slides placing it down face down and then peeling it off sometimes is a lot easier for people so i'm sure you're wondering how i added the black image behind my water slide image i uploaded my water slide image in cricut design space once that was uploaded i then added a shape in cricut design space the shape that i chose was a square once i chose the square i changed the color from the default dark gray color to a black after i changed the color i placed the water slide image on top of the square and you can see i placed it so it can fit all inside of the square so i didn't overlap it it is inside of the square after i placed the image on top of the square i selected both the square and the image and i went down to the bottom right hand corner and i chose flatten whenever you flatten an image or two images it kind of welds them together but i did not choose weld i just chose flattened so they can still be those two images but when cricut design space cuts are whenever they uh print out it prints on top of each other you can see there are two distinct images you have the one image and then you have the black square behind it and that's all i did for that uh remember whenever you do print this out make sure you select mirror and make sure you do not add the blend a side note is i chose the black background because i'm using a black tumbler let's say i am using a dark purple tumbler then i would choose a dark purple background that is closest to my spray paint or my tumbler so this works on other colors other than black now that i have my decal printed i am going to seal this decal and i'll show you what i used to seal i use my rust-oleum crystal clear enamel if you do use a different sealant or a clear spray paint use what you have on hand it does not have to be this certain brand i just specifically like to use this for my water slides my first step will be sealing this decal so i'm going to do one coat of this crystal clear enamel and then one coat of this white spray paint i am using krylon paint plus primer flat white again this is what i typically use if you have a satin or a gloss or a different brand you can use that as well after i've spray painted my tumbler with this white spray paint i'll go back in and i'll spray the crystal clear enamel over the white spray paints keep in mind whenever i do put the coat of the sealant and the spray paints on the image i'm waiting between coats for them to dry so i'm going to do my sealant let it dry my spray paint let it dry and then my sealant again once i have the three coats on there and they are dried i'll return with the image all right y'all i am back with my uh image and you can still see the image behind the spray paint and the sealer that is completely okay and i wanted to show you all a little boo-boo that i made i don't know if you will be able to see it on the camera but i did not wait until that first layer of sealant was uh completely dried so it did kind of bubble up there so like i mentioned it is important to let each of the spray sealant or spray paint dry completely what i like to do before cutting or applying my decal to my tumbler is i always dip my finger into my water and then i add some water on the end of that decal right where that like safety line is i don't know what the line is but like the safety line or the border and then if it does smear off the ink if the ink smears off then you know that it's not sealed properly so that's something i do with every single water slide that i put on a tumbler just to make sure that it is completely sealed and as you can see the ink isn't going anywhere now that it's all nice and sealed this is when i will take my decal and cut it now if y'all do cut your decals on your qriket design space go ahead and do that but i've always hand cut my decals only because um i'm just going to cut around this so it's not really anything that's really hard so just like my other decals i like to cut like a circle because it's always easier to place that circle on the rounded surface rather than placing the square and you're not going to see any of those um those lines when i place it down so cutting it like kind of wobbly like how i have it here and not too perfect is completely okay just be sure whenever you are cutting it this way if you're cutting it like close to the image make sure you're not cutting the image off at all and i have my water here i just turn on my faucet i turn on my hot and cold and i just let the water sit or go inside of the container and then i'm going to just allow that decal to sit in that water so the water is not cold it's not hot it's basically probably warm or room temperature while that's sitting in the water make sure it's completely soaked in the water what i like to do is add a little bit of water to my tumbler this gives it a nice surface so the decal doesn't just stick directly to the tumbler it kind of has some wiggle room to kind of move left and right so what i do is i take my decal up from the water and if it does remove from the backing very easily then your water slide is ready to go so i'm going to let it sit there for another 15 seconds or so and pick it up now and it looks like the backing is coming off perfectly so with that water added to the tumbler what i'm doing is i'm just removing that backing from that decal and i'm just pulling them away from each other y'all i'm so silly i accidentally placed this thing upside down because i'm so used to placing it on that way so what i did was i just i stopped the camera and i flipped it upside down and now we are back in business so like i said just place your water slide on your tumbler and let your backing just pull away from the water slide and you can see that it is completely black and what i do is i dip my hand inside of the water and that allows me to add more water to the water slide and it gets rid of those bubbles around that water slide and there's a big bubble inside of his face there i will say now that i added that spray paint to that water slide it is a little bit more flimsy so instead of what i usually do is take that paper towel i'm going to take my silicone brush and kind of brush away those um those water bubbles once i brush away those water bubbles then i'll go in with my paper towel and then i will go ahead and kind of blot away that water so take my paper towel or your craft towel whatever you have on hand and blot away that water i like it completely dry you need this tumbler to be completely dried so you can go in with epoxy make sure whenever you are drying this tumbler you're not smearing it make sure you're just simply blotting it because you don't want to rip that water slide paper and i'm trying to get those last uh little bubbles that might be trapped underneath i just placed my water slide kind of eye level to me and then i could see those bubbles now that i have my water slide on my tumbler you can see how cute it looks i do see a really big difference of the colors of the ink and the uh paint i'm going to let this dry for about 15 to 20 minutes just to make sure that there's no water just stuck on the edges that might be a little wet once i let it dry for about 15 to 20 minutes i'm going to put it under a coat of epoxy and then i'll show you all the finished result when the epoxy cures while that other tumbler is sitting on the epoxy and it is curing i wanted to show y'all how a normal water slide will look on a dark or black tumbler so i took those other water slides and i just wanted to just show you that it will not show up so i have had my water slide sitting in the water and i sealed these the way i typically seal them so all i did was use my crystal clear enamel i did not add any specific backdrop i just printed it out from qriket design space and how i downloaded it from etsy so i'm doing the same technique as i would any other water slide and i did mirror it again so make sure y'all are mirroring it and make sure you don't place it like this make sure you place it upside down um so you do get the words correct and then i am just sliding that backing right off that tumbler just like as i did the other one and you all can already see that this water slide is barely even noticeable so like i said i just wanted to show y'all how it looks compared to the other one and then at the end i'm not going to epoxy this because i don't want to waste a tumbler but i was okay with wasting just one water slide for y'all so let me show y'all it still obviously needs to be dried but this is how it typically looks placing a regular water slide on a black tumbler so even if the other water slide does have a little bit of lines to it it still looks a lot better than this because i have no idea what's on this tumbler if i didn't place on it so like i said i'll see y'all once that other epoxy cures welcome back everybody i'm back with my tumblr the epoxy is completely cured and this is how it looks after epoxy i will say that you can still see that image black background on the tumbler but this is how it would look if you did not do that white spray paint trick so spraying that spray paint still comes out a lot better than not seeing the decal or the image itself now if i can go back and if i knew what i knew now what i would have done was probably cut this out by hand and i would have cut it as close as i could to the edges another thing i would have done maybe is blend the image with the tumbler more so i would have taken some black alcohol ink and kind of dabbed it around that image and dabbed it all around to take away those edges and make it kind of blend with that black tumbler another thing i want to mention is my printer is very cheap i use the cheapest canon from walmart i believe it's the mg2522 so the quality of my printer isn't probably the greatest it does get the job done for clear water slides and printable vinyl but maybe for the black background probably a higher quality printer would probably be better with this overall i think this is a really good trick to actually do and to kind of experiment with and once you get this down i think this is really cute so i am going to actually fix this tumbler because this two-tone black drives me crazy like i said i wish i would have cut a little closer to the image but i'm going to fix this and show you all how it looks at the end i first took it outside and covered up that decal completely with my flat white spray paint after that white spray paint dried i went in with some three colors that closely resembled the colors on my image i did use the power wash method for this if you want to learn how to do the power wash method using more than one color check out my uh description below i'll have the video linked there and now i am going to go in with that original water slide decal that i did not add the backing to and place that right on the white spot of the tumbler and here it is guys this turned out so cute so consider this like a two-for-one or video you got two tutorials and one video last thing i have left is to let this tumbler dry a little bit for about 15-20 minutes and then put that final coat of epoxy i'll probably put about 10 to 15 milliliters on this 20 ounce tumbler so let me know how i did let me know if you liked it better with the power wash or without the power wash but this just shows you that even if you do make a mistake or if you mess up a little bit you can always fix your tumblers don't panic and just use some creativity and i know that you guys will make something gorgeous so i hope this two in one tutorial helped y'all along your crafting way and if it did please be sure to give this video a thumbs up and don't forget to subscribe to my channel for
