this is ESPN's presentation of Capital One Bowl there's always time for fun during Bowl week in Pitt North Carolina hats um when they visited the Charlotte Motor Speedway but now it's down to business for the Panthers freshman running back sensation Dion Lewis against the Tar Heels defense ranked sixth in the nation it's Pittsburgh and North Carolina but Meineke Car Care Bowl now car care bowl and welcome to Charlotte in Bank of America Stadium normally home to the Carolina Panthers in the NFL but today a great atmosphere for college football we are right in the backyard of the Tar Heels as North Carolina beats number 17 Pittsburgh hi again everyone I'm Bob with Shuzhen alongside Bob Griese and Chris Spielman guys in the past we have seen great running backs for Pitt we see another one this year a freshman sensation to be on the list the idea Ann Lewis is something he possesses all the essentials that you need to have as a running back he's got the vision of speed the first the quick moves the one thing he has that a lot of people might think as a kind of the thing that hinders him to me it helps the man 5:48 what he does is he hides behind those big offensive linemen you see the little spin move with that burst and I'm telling you guys from playing linebacker playing against the smaller backs is more challenging for the talented linebackers at the Tar Heels have so that's her big challenge they stop and be on some great players to great coaches as well Butch Davis Dave Wannstedt Bob Griese they spent a lot of years on the same sideline winning a lot of football you look at this game I see two very similar teams both of these coaches coach for 11 years under Jimmie Johnson back in the 90s they won championships at the University of Miami they won Super Bowl championships with the Dallas Cowboys when I look at their defense I see attacking strong aggressive defensive linemen dominating the game when I look at their offenses I see the same thing offensively there is no spread there is no huddle there they will huddle all the time and and they gonna run the football they were committed to running the football so we're gonna have a good old-fashioned used to be good ball game quarterbacks throwing the ball from the pocket O'Quinn kaznyk is the third member a fourth member of our broadcast team today he was down on the field a short time ago and had a chance to catch up with two good old friends what a longtime friends and colleagues and opposite sidelines coach what's most appealing about competition amongst friends well I don't know if there's much that's appealing other than the fact that you got a great deal of respect for Dave he's done an awesome job we've been great friends for a long time watch the way that he's built this Pitt football program and how well they're playing I mean it's it's a great tribute to he and his staff coach how was this friendship and affected by Bowl week well it gave us a chance to obviously see each other you know summon our families and the kids and our wives and stuff which was neat and I tell you the truth getting ready for him I haven't really had a chance to watch butchers teams but we got something out of it I mean he's doing a great job and they're doing some things that that we're trying to do you know so it gave me a chance to sit back and kind of know and you know like book said we were together so my years that there's so many similar things with what we're doing on offense and defense what is different about you two there are so many similarities what's the biggest difference fans at home are going to notice today butch butch is gonna probably throw us 50 times today they will probably hand it off at least once before the days over with it'll be I would say like Dave said a while ago there's probably a lot more similarities between these two teams and there are differences thanks guys good luck all right Quinn thanks very much and guys the challenge for Dave Wannstedt today probably to get his team to rebound off of what might have been the most disappointing loss really couple of losses to end a season for any team in college looking that is the challenge but he's a guy that can do it and understands that you're always building toward your next goal the next goal would be for them to get to ten wins and the next goal would be to set themselves up for next year so once that like you said he enjoys football and football you learned that once the losses the losses loss it's gone forever you can't do anything about it the only thing you do is grab the next opportunity that's right here right now which Davis has a heck of a defensive group on his sideline as well these are two defensive coaches and he might have as talented a defensive unit as there was this year in the ACC his these difference is ranked much higher than Pittsburgh's defense and the theme they have going form they take the ball away they blast her to four interceptions four touchdowns this year they have another four interceptions they've taken two touchdowns they are looking for the football and looking to score to help that offense the Tar Heels won the toss they deferred their option to the second half so Pittsburgh will start with the football back deep to receive as Cameron Sadler who was second to the Big East bringing back kickoffs this season Casey Bart set to kickoff for North Carolina short kick Sadler from the 12 as a whole all the way out to the 35 yard line it feel positioned for Pittsburgh to start in a good field position for a first-team all-big East quarterback in bill stop I like this kid he had a great year this year he is the all-conference the Big East all-conference quarterback 21 touchdowns only eight interceptions this kid he's got a lot of targets a lot of big play guys he can get it done the all everything tailback is Dion Lewis in the offset I play action though for stall on first down dumps it off underneath to a tremendous Titan endure and dickerson short game maybe a yard see what Pitts tries to do guys as Doran Dickerson's a playmaker they like the matchups right there they lined him up at fullback and had them matched up with a linebacker Kwan's third event Sturtevant playing good coverage but I like the idea bit get the ball into a big-time players hands and Frank Nitti the offensive coordinator towles even waited 20 years for a guy like Doran who all he's got it he's going to use them Stahl will smoke rap to the outside of Jonathan Baldwin uses the stiff arm and gets up the sideline has a first down knock to the bones right at the first down marker let's take a look to at the Pittsburgh offense the first team all-big East left tackle and Jason Pinkston the first team all-big East right guard and John Maliki helping to protect bills skull and as we set an all everything tailback and Dion Lewis the second ever player to be the Big East Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year in the same season in 1999 Michael Vick that Virginia Tech did that as well so Lewis is the weapons certainly on the perimeter Jonathan Baldwin first-team all-big East wide receiver a dangerous weapon as well it was a first down catch for Baldwin play action forestall throws one up the scene hi throwing two almost intercepted by Charles Brown and this is a North Carolina defense that can take the ball away 19 interceptions this season tied for seventh in the nation not only this year but they have been taking the ball away for the last couple of years it all gets back to that front board pressure on the quarterback makes the quarterback throw the ball before he'd like to fourth play the drive and OD on running the football yet and Ronnie said what 50 times the game and then Butch Davis gotta be thinking I haven't seen Deon run yet here it comes right now the toss to Lewis and a burst into plus territory for a gain of six number 20 let's take a look at that North Carolina defense their defensive line very much their strength Marvin Austin on the inside of big Pro prospect a junior and many of the pro scouts think he might come out Robert Quinn at 11 sacks this season Quan Sturdivant anchors the line backing proof first-team all-conference to the ACC and Kendrick Bernie five interceptions he brought two back four touchdowns a dangerous playmaker at corner third down and four for Pitt storm Dickerson and motion the matchup they like is him on the linebackers and safeties or man rush a floater and it's cut for a first down Mike Shanahan climbed the ladder and pulls it in for a gain of seven yards a shoe that's a good play called let me tell you why they used door Dickerson they ran him up the field and watch the attention at meet governor's you have two players running with Dorn Dickerson to allow a man to come underneath and it's nice little offense you get for a first down but you can be an effective wide receiver without catching a ball lot because of the attention that you draw as long as the players around you execute what they're supposed to do two tight ends out of the eye another play-action fake Cristalle he looks for the home run Dickerson so you go for the home run ball with your tight end he was certainly bumped at about the 10-yard line it could have been a touchdown at the very least it looks like pass interference against North Carolina I think you call it just does its go to be the Nickerson could have caught this ball and should have caught it he had to throw the ball a little bit early he hung it up gave it a lot of air that's you got a catch though the parents me fence number 27 that little bump right there by Williams number 27 the free safety is what they called but that should have been a touchdown he had he got a game of turnaround saw the ball coming got a catch shows maybe they're doing the ferrets do interference you don't give them a little ball get the big box if you're beat you're beat takers were in down Deonte Williams called for the pass interference penalty opening drive for Pittsburgh already deep into North Carolina's territory now it's back to Dion Lewis bounces it outside breaks the tackle picks up about five yards and Bob Griese let's take a look at Pittsburgh's impact players the quarterback is the first guy we're going to talk about Billy Stahl you know he's a Player of the Year this guy is fun to watch he's got a lot of intact players to get the ball to the running back Louis isn't bitching to true freshmen this kid is fun to watch enjoy him today and defensively gregorovius this is one of the best defenses in the country they lead the nation in sacks with 44 bunch formation right and a toss that way for Louis walk down at about the 23 yard line we may have lost a yard Donora Searcy came up to make the tackle for North Carolina and it's a stingy North Carolina defense Chris sixth best in the nation in yards per game and they led the ACC and they run and get off blocks and right there Dorn Dickerson had a chance to crack back to make a short corner in the speed of the defender from North Carolina I believe was Searcy beat the block inside allowing the plate of stretch and allowing the speed of the pursuit of the Tar Heel defense to get there and finish the job if you want a block you got a crack back you can't miss on those because it will be a loss of yardage another third down chance here for pit one end zone incomplete a lot of contact Jonathan Baldwin the intended receiver Charles Brown there in coverage no flag comes out this time it'll be a medium-range field goal for Pittsburgh to try and get on the board you're right there was a lot of contact there I don't know whether the offensive man caused it or whether the defensive guy but both guys fell down Charles Brown did a good job of cutting her route off while looking back at the quarterback to avoid any type of interference Dan Hutchins was second team all-big East kicking this year this one from 40 yards out floating towards the upright and he missed it to the near side so North Carolina's defense bends but they do not break and Pitt comes away empty on the opening drive of the Monica Karkare Bowl two old friends Butch Davis and Abel on stats squaring off at Charlotte so what do you think preferred package good choice I hope only my Niki gives you options I'm complete car care and will help you choose what's right for you your car and your budget and my Niki you're always the driver since when can mountains float and celebrate a burger like no insurance Keenan up proud to welcome you to the fifth mónica car care bold did you know that Mauna Kea is the home for the triple option you mean a formation where any of the three banks getting up with the football I mean Monica gives customers the option to three levels of service oh that triple option yeah I like that so on behalf of your local Meineke Car Care Centers help us welcome the University of North Carolina Tar Heels and the University of Pittsburgh Panthers to the Monica Car Care Bowl happy holidays from Charlotte Baba shoes and Bob Griese Chris Spielman at the Meineke Car Care Bowl Pittsburgh opens up the game with a 9 play drive and they come away empty so at their own 22 yard line North Carolina's chance with the football an end-around up the sideline Greg little duckers out in front little cuts it back at midfield and gets to the 45 yard line a pit I love to call this defensive line they've been hearing about it the North Carolina offensively has been hearing about this defensive line for a month and they come out and they fake and play up the middle and run around them they didn't know where it was going and they go no huddle with the junior quarterback TJ Yates Greg little started his career as a wide receiver went to running back back to wide receiver that time a running back for 31 yards and a first down trap handoff to Ryan Houston and that's on nothing there Greg Rowe meais comes up to make the stop well TJ Yates still only a junior and he's second all-time in North Carolina in yards and completion he's head this would be his 31st start he's been injured the last couple of years last year he had a problem got back into the end into the end of the year and started a bunch of the games this year he's been a little bit inconsistent but he's playing much better the second half of the season 12 touchdowns and 14 interceptions this year for Yates play action on second and law fires one of the sidelines called in by little two big plays made by Greg little boat for first downs well if you're Pittsburgh deep frets you got a figure that Greg littles part of the major part of the offense two out of the first three there is this is what I like being an athlete going up and catching the ball with your hands extending and getting at the highest point that's trust between TJ Yates and Greg little outstanding efforts and execution Brian Houston first down right into the heart of that Pittsburgh deep face for a couple of yards upfront for North Carolina Alan help normally the right guard moves over to Center and Travis bond normally through the backup right guard gets the start cam Holland and Lowell Dyer the normal centers a little bit banged up as we've already seen Greg little but dangerous all-around weapon and Ryan Houston has been the work force at tailback after Sean drone went down with a fractured shoulder earlier this year dates finds a sexpot era cosmic first down and more and on the flag he's out of bounds at the 11 yard line looked like a face mask person personal foul face bass number 31 two quick points boys first of all a lot of times when you have time off you're not tackling the game speed you get poor tackling right here by Chappelle number seven coming in your screen you threw a no-hitter there then you come here trying to get the guy down any way you can and start grasping your facemask lack of execution and you wonder how much the performance against Cincinnati how much that affects his defense so far tonight which was bad by the way Houston on first and goal and if flagging down on the nearside at the line of scrimmage gets to about the three yard line it's not only the team's haven't played for about a month but the officials haven't been out there you saw the referee he was facing the wrong way when he was going to give he turned around and talked to the cameras on this side of the field Bob illegal formation we were talking a little bit about how you give coaches all this time to prepare for one game it's like putting on a mad scientist into the laboratory and draw some evil scheme up to try to fool everybody that's right and usually ended up fooling yourself so now it's first and gold back at the 10-yard line I'm Houston again the I bagged Flags down again on a roll out by Yeats whoops one 2p enough to bothers catches Enzo if it stands again there is a flag at the 10-yard line this is a huge call right here North North Carolina can get out in front of the ballgame and again this is a formation problem that goes to in my opinion it always goes to the layoffs then executing under pressure now poor Zac Pianalto he had a chance to make SportsCenter and it's going to get wiped away by our penalty and it looks like another pre-snap foul for North Carolina it's a conference u-s-a officiating crew RGD julia is our lead referee illegal formation five men in the backfield replay first down the knee in the backfield there's one two three four five so that's what the referee called there's five guys in the backfield somebody's got to be up on the line seven guys on the line of scrimmage basically what they're talking about so another 5-yard penalty back-to-back five yard illegal formation fouls as Butch Davis is getting his say in it'll be first and goal after that penalty back at the 15-yard line with Butch is saying what's he saying eat one unbalanced if it was too tight in on the left side because the guy in motion you can't have a guy in legal formation is not challengeable we play first down see how think butch wants to see is this the guy right there on the end of the line if he's a tight end well they're saying obviously that one of those two tight ends didn't line up on the line of strength oh I think I think butch is right first and goal at the 15-yard line gate swings one out at the 10-yard line down to about the seven goes Greg little it'll be second down and goal regardless if it's tight or not a tight end underlying screw but you still cannot have five guys in the backfield and we have a former longtime NFL referee and collegiate referee Gerry Austin with us here in the booth to help explain the main emotion has to be in the backfield so he was in the backfield he had to set back she had a split back on the opposite side and the quarterback creating five in the backfield right call Jerry correct call roll out for Yates on second and goal throws it underhand just to get rid of it well they ruled out a fumble while they rule that but incomplete passes dan.mason was there at pursuit I'm trying to write there's the flag they try to run the same play that they're ranting the other side just a bootleg trying to get the ball to the tight end again this time Pitt did a good job of covering it up this may be intentional grounding called on TJ Yates as the flag was thrown late and again an opportunity for us to go over to Gerry Austin well you see what his opinion of the call should be the question is did pastor get the ball back to the line of scrimmage and it appeared that he did not because it was outside the pocket then you still have to get the ball to the line of scrimmage we have an illegal forward pass the ball did not make the line of scrimmage the pen Liat at the spot of the foul third down the thousand number 13 - scrimmage is the 7-yard line let's see where the ball is play short of the black line at the 7 yard line excellent call again so now it's third and goal from the 15 gates lobs one touchdown and then he punched the ball into the stands and draws a flag after the touchdown the reports day was going on addressing that issue he's upset about that he's putting down to the other end he says you you forced us to kick 15 yards further back than we're gonna have to kick off from he forgets his feet inbounds what an amazing catch and yes it's a touchdown he got his right foot down in bounds we have unsportsmanlike conduct number 8 throwing the ball in the sand the previous playing in being reviewed guys I spent a week with Greg little about two summers ago the tremendous athlete outstanding play as it review the play but this is something that you worry about he's that so much talent this is something you have to harness and the coaches are doing a good job right now Greg it's not about you it's about two team you did your job you made a great play but his Butch Davis is pulling down together in the field you just cost us 15 yards you see the athleticism in the style he has everything you want and easily a touchdown I think he's just frustrated Chris from all of the penalties that happened on that Drive frustrating that they still overcame it we got into the end zone anyway but you still just can't take take matters in your own hand this this is pushing your defense 15 yards back for the next possession that's a 1-2-3 me decision instead of a 1 2 3 4 decision the play still being reviewed I guess the only question certainly you could see his right foot got down in bounds did he have complete control of the football when the first foot landed or did he only have complete control of the football on the second half which was clearly out of bounds does he have complete control there as on the second hop he's out of bounds at the review the Beals confirmed touchdown look great play great individual play well on the kickoff with a horrible choice after the play I know football is a game of emotions but you don't need to turn into the other number eight ray guy for everybody else to see I'm sorry did I see all that oh yeah that was not just a cartoon bubble coming out of their head you were saying all that so KC bars on to attempt the point after 7 nothing Tar Heels but great field position you would think coming up for pit as Greg little makes the spectacular touchdown catch and then the penalty hey lady this is no time to play I'm picking a photo for my Capital One credit card Oh Pam Sutter picture on my card nice drawing but this photos cuter first why is your card by uploading your own photo at Capital One com lady players and coaches competing in the Meineke Car Care Bowl all know the high speed excitement of riding what's in your wallet and my global celebrating 50 years of making better products or better lives at the Meineke Car Care Bowl happy holidays a seven play 77 yard touchdown drive for the Tar Heels that felt longer they had first and goal at the five they commit three penalties they still throw a touchdown pass on third and goal from the 15 yard line and then Greg little after making a spectacular touchdown catch punts the ball into the stands gets the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty which is the fourth foul in total on that drive and I have to kickoff from the 15-yard line and one of those penalties that you just mentioned Nullah negated a touchdown pass here on the left side earlier on so I think that's the frustration that's where the frustration came from Greg little so it's Kasey Barth set to kickoff cameron Sadler and Ray Graham back deep to receive for Pittsburgh it'll be Sadler from the nineteen spins off a tackler stays on his feet and gets to the 37 yard line Capital One Bowl we continues on ESPN tomorrow night the Kentucky Wildcats will take on CJ Spiller and the Clemson Tigers and the Gaylord hotels Music City Bowl Capital One Bowl week on ESPN and ESPN 360 calm tomorrow at 8:30 Eastern this would be a good game tomorrow night and a chance for CJ spiller to finish his career in style the ACC Player of the Year scored at least one touchdown in every game this season put a show on in the ACC championship game didn't he play action for Stahl back to the air again high throw hauled in by Baldwin but the aerial attack for Pittsburgh the baldon Baldwin is one of their playmakers he is 65 225 pounds he's averaging 20 yards per reception issues got 54 passes for 8 touchdowns and a 20 yard average play reception I'd like to have a nice big target like 20 yards per catch good for 4th in the country only a sophomore now it's the freshman Dion Lewis and he's spun down at about the 42 yard line Jonathan Baldwin again only a sophomore first-team all-big East and he is a big play threat seeing him down on the field he passes the eyeball test I'll tell you that and still really learning to become a wide receiver talking with Frank Cignetti still has a lot to improve on but all the raw talent and raw skills are there and when you have a pocket passer in which a coach and train you saw bill stall he hung in that pocket just long enough grease making a strike knowing he was gonna get a shot to the rib cage blockers out front for Lewis nice cut back to the 32 yard line for a first down I told you early on that you would enjoy this this Lewis kid he he's a true freshman last year at this time he was in high school he wasn't highly recruited all these three schools were after him Miami of Ohio Tulane and Pitt we asked yesterday we asked why at their practice field why wasn't he recruited and he said hype that's what one stat told us he's his height he says everybody looks at their height and then they got off of it and he said I saw four plays on tape and I said offering the scholarship Stull slings one wide and complete over the head of dickerson so it will be second down and ten dinar as Searcy was out on Doran Dickerson and just to go back to Greece's point we talked about any open and I want to talk about a little bit more look at some great backs and one I played with in Barry Sanders Barry's five seven five eight and a lot of times those guys have such an advantage because of the size of the offensive line it has a defender has the eighth man in the box of safety or linebacker you're coming up to fill your gap or your hole you can't find that you can't see and with that quickness that he has in that little burst and power that's what makes him so dangerous so his height is an advantage as opposed to a disadvantage wide receiver hitch the Baldwin breaks it tackle and he has pounded out of bounds about three yards shy of a first down well certain schools for whatever reason seem to produce great players at a certain position - Boyd has put out some running backs touchdown Tony Dorsett Ironhead Hayward Curtis marquise who's a lock hall-of-famer in the NFL Kevin Barlow an excellent player as well as sean mccoy last year and it's funny enough Dave Wannstedt was saying coming into the preseason this year with the loss of shady McCoy hits - biggest question marks were probably quarterback and running back and ended up with first-team all-conference performance at both positions with Bill stall and Dion Lewis and on third down Louis finds a crease there he goes to the edge it's loose at the 10 yard line funded the football reading about the one did it go through the end zone for a touchback if he fumbled it before the goal line if it's in the end zone it belongs not only to North Carolina but it will come out to the 20-yard line on a touchback therefore we have a touchback if it doesn't go into the endzone it definitely did and through that's a touchback that's that's just a good hit right there the ball came out Lewis just lost possession of the ball about big ej wilson from his defensive end position the opposite side of the field giving it up for his teammates never quittin finishing until the goal line the big defensive end hustling downfield and clubbing that ball out of there that's effort that's what win bowl games that's what beats good teams when you have effort like ej wilson provided right there carolina defense took the ball away 28 times during the season that's 13th best in the country got another turnover right there Yates flips one up the sideline to Ryan Houston he's out to the 25-yard line so the tough part about that run by Dion Lewis is that sets the all-time freshman record at Pitt for most parts in a season he now breaks Tony Dorsett's record but what's he gonna remember about that play fumble the ball at the 1 yards out of the bowl game into the end zone not a memorable run I just like to call 3rd and 5 for me and you you trust Dion Lewis and what you're doing so much here's the ball Dion makes up the NAP and he did but he didn't finish again Frank the the mix-up of plays by North Carolina's been outstanding Yates well protected underneath finds head Barham about a yard shy of a first down and how about the first two drives for Pittsburgh 9 play drive to open up you miss a field goal you stall then you come back with a beautiful drive getting good field position after the penalty on the kickoff and all the way down to the one-yard line you've got your franchise running back reaching for the goal line he fumbles it through the end zone two good drives and no points very frustrating and the thing that butch I mean that a Dave wants that's got to get his troops it don't get frustrated will it'll score third and one and a first down for Ryan Houston let's check in with quit yeah you sense that frustration down here in the pit sidelines Center Rob Houser coming off the field upsets as guys we are pounding these guys and we keep letting them off the hook it's a second time they've gotten into Carolina territory meanwhile Dion Lewis sat down by himself kept his helmet on Jonathan Baldwin was the first guy to come over today pick your head up a bunch of the coaches came over say John Dion you still have about 150 yards and you keep looking forward short game for Ryan Houston on first down let's take a look at the starting lineups for the Pitt defense Nick Williams and Greg Romeo's shared Biggie's Defensive Player of the Year honors so that is a really good defensive line adam gun at the Mike linebacker spot a sixth year senior was first-team all-big East as well as was cornerback Aaron berry in the secondary Yates off the play action fake finds Erick Highsmith he fumbles the football it's picked up iron bury and lost on the ground again bromius had a chance at it a scramble for it well it looked like Aaron Barry was going to pick it up and run with it and it turns out in spite of the fact he didn't recover it Jaron Holley was there to pick up his teammate and pit does indeed recover Pittsburgh first down the Eric Highsmith the true freshman take a look make the play you got to understand that people are going to come with pursuit it's a good job of Gruder coming from the back side stripping erin berry just about made the mistake of losing the football but jarred Holly recovers ESPN Monday Night Football Vikings Bears at 8:30 so 2001 subcompact a hundred thousand miles good condition so what do you think I think I'll go with the basic package great choice only mine if he gives you options on complete car care and we'll help you choose what's right for you your car and your budget at Meineke you're always the driver my very much care about you succeeding and that's a good feeling dot-com the fumble by the true freshman wide receiver Erick Highsmith gives the ball right back to Pittsburgh they trail seven nothing but they're back in business first and ten at the 40-yard line of North Carolina Dion Lewis fumbled at the one-yard line through the end zone for a touchback the last time Pitt was in plus territory here's Stahl going downtown for Baldwin in complete good coverage by Deonte Williams from coast-to-coast you can now get the latest news on the team's you care about the most the power of ESPN Louis Hadassah and this play coming for Pitt is the 13th play they will have run in plus territory still no points on the board stole on third down up the seen first down and more Mike Shanahan all the way down inside the 15-yard line and let's check in with Quinn kaznyk guys I want to show you the footballs that are using clearly they're not new this is a Pitt football and you see the designations of games that's have balls been used at Syracuse Notre Dame Cincinnati North Carolina a little notation right here for foes spazio former pit head coach who passed away recently so these are clearly not new balls and see all the games that they've been used ray Graham in at tailback on first down and ten inside the 15-yard line Graham up the middle maybe a gain of a yard and guys obviously in bowl games sometimes there are ceremonial football's Quint was mentioning that teams might have the option to use but and I would think a big advantage to a team to try and bring the football they've used all year to this game the main thing is the quarterback the quarterback drills the ball he has to grip it in his hand if you have a fat ball it's not as easy to throw that it's the main thing is you know you don't want a ball fresh out of a box that's slick it's short if you just you just can't grip it it's very slippery you want something roughed up and used ESPN 360 comm start of the second quarter Bob Oh Susan Bob Griese Chris Spielman Quint kaznyk all on hand to watch Pitt put up 117 yards of total offense in the first quarter still no points on the board Dion Lewis back in the game at tailback after fumbling on the last Drive stole back to the air though flips it back at the end zone jump ball incomplete looking for Jonathan Baldwin good good and six-foot-five and all that one out give him a guy chance and if not throw it out of bounds don't take a sack Grayson look to me like Baldwin cut his route short I don't know if he knew where the back of the end zone was but he almost stopped running and then I think if he would he could have taken maybe two two more yards back to the end zone then used his leap in the Billy it's just that the Keith wasn't sure where he was on the football field I think I think he didn't want to run to the corner because it was coverage out there you're right he could have gone straight back to the back of the end zone third down and nine inside the 15 Stahl sets up the screen to Lewis and he is brought down what a play by Charles Brown coming up from his cornerback spot to dump Lewis and it'll be a field goal attempt for Pitt it's nice when you're able to play stoned down on the inside the 10-yard line and Charles Brown beats that big offensive lineman low man always wins you'll see right there he gets underneath Bielecki and able to keep his eyes up and secure the tackle by wrapping his arms vision on the quarterback the corner saw what was going on and was able to get up there and make the play Dan Hutchins missed on his first attempt to the first quarter from 40 yards out this one from 31 yards away and Pittsburgh finally has something to show for all of their offense they're on the board and let's go back to Reese alright guys off to a good start the Meineke Car Care Bowl at his time for a bowl update brought to you by flomax today's bowl action started with a little caesar's bowl holiday time in Charlotte and North Carolina and the Meineke Car Care bowl with a 7-3 lead over pittsburgh fit so far in the game with one hundred and sixteen total yards of offense but a crucial turnover and a field goal missed to go along with a make a moment ago by Dan Hutchins to get them on the board and it's seven to three Johnny white back deep for the kickoff for North Carolina it breaks the kick off specialists for Pittsburgh sends it deep and it's dinara Searcy from the two all the way up to the 29 yard line it's time for tonight's game track brought to you by EAS and some missed opportunities so far for Pittsburgh not only the missed field goal followed by a terrific touchdown catch by Greg little on the pass from bill stone but then Dion Lewis turns it over at the one-yard line this was effort by EJ Wilson the big defensive end not quitting on the play and saving his team six points beyond Lewis will be back he's a tough kid he'll bounce back from that already is racked up 51 yards just starting a second quarter so he's going to have this would I say have another hundred fifty in them yeah and around a boy being chased by Romeo's we're treating all the way inside his own 20-yard line and flipped up and down at the 18-yard line by Aaron Barry a loss of 11 yards coming in one of the favorite plays running plays for both Carolina was a reverse whether it be one of the wide receivers are tied in reverse this is just good defense and good preparation by the Panthers a lot of times we have aggressive defensive ends you do those types of things to slow them down bromius did a great job of staying disciplined although he didn't make the play he made the guy with the ball running a hump which allowed a pursuit to beat off their blocks and get there second down at 21 and the Tar Heels continue to go further back Giovani Chappell read the hitch to Dwight Jones and came up and made the stop it's a loss of another couple of yards eventually we're looking at North Carolina the villain with short passes little screens three-step drops you're going to start have to throw the ball down the field to loosen these guys up because the weakness of that Pittsburgh defense if there is a weakness has been average playing the secondary will test them out Bob Griese you got a call for third down at 22 usually look over and say coach you call this one a judge shoot dials up how about a batted down screen by Greg Romeo's well that's that's all right I mean could have been a little bit better but at least we didn't turn the ball over just put it away and play defense good you see Romeo stright here being smart understanding reading the screen for that offense in alignment you might want to go ahead and chop him because when you chop him the one thing you do you get those hands down so he can't turn into a shot blocker and shallick set to punt Smith back deep to receive pretty good kick Sadler from about the 34 dances his way to the 50 and all the way to the 45 yard line of North Carolina we talked about two coaches that know each other so well and these are two coaches that obviously spend a lot of years wing a lot of football games alongside Jimmie Johnson on the sideline they're also trying to take these two programs back to former great lengths and doing a pretty good job of it well I think they're both on the right Road I think the Dave Wannstedt in Pittsburgh is a little bit ahead because he's been there five years butch has only been there three years but they're both heading in the right direction you know what they both coached at a long time in the collegiate level in the NFL they know what gets a program back it's all about the talent and they're both recruiting extremely well in the respective school I mean it's not about the exersaucer no sir never has been Dion Lewis spins out of a tackle and moves the Pyatt close to a first down to the 36 yard line Maebh wants that talked to me before the game resident tell me about Dion I mean don't don't give me the same old great patience babe all that stuff he said Chris it's his strength look at the strength right here now he's carrying about 500 pounds on his back and look at the leg strength and churn and the desire not study the guy fumbles a great back fumbles sometimes that helps them because they want to make up for it and you see the effort like that that's helping make up for that bumble was on second and one patient Late Late waits for a hole to open and there he goes again to the 20-yard line all the way down to the 11 before Dion Lewis has finally run out of bounds by Donora Searcy just good patience wait till the hole gets there in vision now he's going to jump to the outside because he sees some of his friends out there that are ready to block for him it's just hard to believe that this kid wasn't a highly recruited kid coming out of high school last year and he's at such a high level already this kid is the biggest surprise in the Big East easily and maybe in all of college football about that recruiting they go find him and trust what you see there he goes again looking into the endzone for a touchdown is Dion Lewis boys they want a got his flag football for that back two-hand touch we chew great job of blocking winning the physical point of attack the Dione just beat the on 17th rushing touchdown of the year for Dion Lewis not only leads the Big East but also already has broken the record at pit set by LeSean McCoy four touchdowns by a freshman McCoy had 14 Lewis is up to 17 18 overall touchdowns on the year Dion Lewis on his way to putting a cap on an amazing freshman season at Pittsburgh so what do you think I think I'll go with the preferred package good choice only my Nikki gives you options Bowl week of the team's getting different experiences depending on where they're sent and here in Charlotte where better to go than a close-up look at the Lowe's Motor Speedway and both teams did that this past Wednesday and speaking of a Speedway Dion Lewis he looks like a NASCAR car out there boy he is untouched from nine yards out to score that last touchdown and number 17 Pittsburgh now has the field goal lead North Carolina about to get the football back short kickoff coming down to the 15 yard line to Searcy he breaks a tackle and he's all the way out to about the 39 yard line before he's brought down solely leads the pac-10 champion Ducks against terrelle pryor and the Buckeyes and the granddaddy of them all the 2010 Rose Bowl game presented by City Ohio State Oregon coverage begins New Year's Day at 4:30 Eastern on ABC the Rose Bowl lives here and to tremendously talented quarterbacks I like that kid Masoli he is something special he ran over that safety Forgan state to get that first town in the fourth quarter he's a tough runner adequate passer ryan houston finds a lane out to the 45 to the 46 yard line for a gain of eight jebra play in the Rose Bowl yes I did Ohio State yes sir got beat by USC not that I remember much about the game I played in the Rose Bowl back in the day but back when there was only four bowl games now there are 34 bowl games back when I played and there was only four the rolls the sugar the cotton and the orange and you know that's just playing in the Orange Bowl I mean the Rose Bowl is just something special yes it is and off to Houston a second and to very close to a first down looks like he has one I never played in the Rose Bowl but I appreciate you guys kind of trying to include me in this Bob wasn't the MVP of the Rose Bowl now Brian his son was the MVP of the Rose Bowl I was very 42 played in it the first time Purdue everyone ever went we played it in 67 and then I also got the broadcast by son Brian plans for the University of Michigan and winning a national championship and yes he was the MVP and he reminds me of that every time he can Houston into the secondary again with a first down to the 40-yard line a gain of 11 yards for Ryan Houston you know I was just thinking to myself during the break North Carolina has to come out gonna stab some some type of physical play and they're doing that right now which Davis understands when you're playing a Pittsburgh team they're tough and right now Ryan Houston showing his own patience envision hitting the holes but you need to establish some type of push back to Pittsburgh because Pittsburgh have punched you in the face all night you better punch him back and right now they are jarred Holly shaken up on that last play he goes to the bench again it's the workhorse Ryan Houston this time nothing there sent backwards and let's take a look at the north carolina impact' players let's start out with TJ yates quarterback that's been up and down hoping to finish in a year on the ups note moving on you have Greg little he's already made his impact the 31 yard run to start the game the great touchdown catch in a stupid mistake that put the ball into the stands and you have the defensive end Robert Quinn outstanding effort 11 sacks on the year along with the 19 tackles for loss as Greg little came into this season with only 24 total receptions still the most experienced wide receiver North Carolina had and Ryan Houston breaking tackles with another first down pointing one out second and third say and he picks up 15th one way to establish the run up the middle to cut off the backside pursuit well how do you cut off the backside to to watch you bring Greg little in motion here to fake that reverse slowing that pursued down allowed and Ryan Houston to find the hole and there's no pursuit from the backside to shut the hole down from the backside because of the play fake in the backfield greased houston again MIT right at the line this time North Carolina's running attack is a little bit different than Pittsburgh this this back this is six to 245 pounds Houston is now there you mentioned earlier Sean drawn was out of the ballgame he was a little bit quicker a little bit more big play guy but compared to Pittsburgh's guy Dion Lewis Dion's about five eight and 195 pounds so he's got the quicks where this guy right here Houston got the power inside play clock down to five the AIDS comes back to the nearside high and over the head of Jeremy Boyd and let's go down to Quinton Bob Bob Griese makes a great point about about Houston he is bigger than every member of hits defense - the front for so when he breaks through that first level he has a size advantage over everybody in that fit defense and visually from the sidelines you can see how that's taken its toll on this Drive police blitz out wide to the near side right on 3rd down and 10 as gates empties the backfield is Greg little right there the most trusted we see were of TJ Yates four-man rush dates well-protected comes underneath the Highsmith first out it's a great job of that offensive line Chris keeping that defensive line giving him some time to throw and find a receiver the offensive line that's been beat up the most injured offensive line in which Davis is ever coached in his whole career you see Greg little drawn to leaving one-on-one with a receiver gets the linebacker no match up well executed starts up front with the big fellas Houston up the middle inside the 15 to the 14 yard line while talking with John shoot the offensive coordinator for North Carolina earlier this season he talked about the fact that all of this is kind of on TJ Yates you'll lose a bunch of offensive linemen the way they did at the start of the season they lose Sean drawn they lose AJ blue which was kind of the number two running back and more of a big play guy and they also graduated Hakeem Nicks Brandon Tate and Brooks Foster all to the NFL at wide receiver and how you got your quarterback he's got none of his wide receivers from last year he's down two backs he's got no offensive lineman in front of them and those three wide receivers went in the 1st 3rd and 5th round and it tied in went in the second round all those guys are gone Houston with a cutback inside the 10 down to about the 9 right at the first down marker Adam Gunn made the stop so a lot of the fire from the media seemed to fall on TJ Yates he's now got about as many touchdowns as interceptions this season somewhat inconsistent but John Shoop said he really has broad shoulders he's been through a lot he's lost a lot of his weapons and a lot of injuries on the offensive line as we know if you can't handle that they don't play that position can handle your right toes he was looking at me with a little venom in his eyes when he said that like it's my fault I was coming over here in this side of the booth with you I appreciate appreciate you getting in between us thank you third in the yard Houston looks like he's got the first down it should be first and goal for the Tar Heels I can't emphasize enough I love the response from John Shoop and Butch Davis of coming out and getting physical because they were getting beat up and they said boys that we've been challenged what do you have here we are and they and shove the ball right down the throats of the pittsburgh answers by pounding it we shoot right here at one time John Shoop was a 30 year old offensive coordinator under dictor on with the Bears in the NFL and in 2004 he went as the quarterbacks coach in Tampa Bay under Jon Gruden where he had Brian Griese mm-hmm on that team and it looks like his quarterbacks gonna call the timeout here hang out first and goal then we come back under five minutes to go in the first half of a good one in the Meineke Car Care Bowl continues through January 2nd just sign on and drive up Mazda's drive off event is back save huge on Mazda cx-7 Mazda 6 Mazda from North Carolina trying to at least tie off not retake the lead against Pitt and Houston bounces at left wilt on the 4 yard line where it will be second down and goal before Sean drawn was injured this would be the area where Houston would play most of his snaps on the offense because he was the big back that would come in and score the touchdowns inside the 10 yard line coming into the game he had 18 rushing touchdowns in his career the big back run him in for the touchdown and no touchdown of the 18 longer than 7 yards however the carry goes inside the 5 yard line again second down a goal play-action Yates flips it back in the end zone incomplete off the fingertips of Greg little who's looking for touchdown catch number two yeah that's that was a good throw he had to be careful there because the corner was saw it coming and was coming back and if he didn't throw it high that ball would have been picked off the nice job by Aaron Barrett number 17 will coming to your screen dropping off the flat route playing the over-the-top route and getting in the throwing Lane forcing the high ball by TJ Yates and you're right Bob has excellent read by TJ Yates if you're long you're never wrong we'll live to fight another down part of that bunch formation tight right gregg little third and goal gates looks that way trying to buy some more time flips it intercepted at the goal-line dan.mason a true freshman linebacker comes up and makes the pick making decisions quarterbacks the first thing about just playing the quarterback decision you gotta make good decisions it was right to eight so it's back to work for Dion Lewis who was tremendous on the last Drive for Pittsburgh 96 rushing yards already about three yards better than what North Carolina normally gives up her game defensively look out for single coverage up there they spins out of a tackle at the goal line and let's check in with rece Davis all right guys coming up on the cars.com halftime report Martin may and Lou Holtz will join me we will discuss exactly what u.s. sees motivation is for the Emerald bowl match against Boston College coming up tonight a nail-biter earlier today in Motown and we'll show you the very best of the bowl week so far so coming up on the cars comm halftime report interesting to see whatever withers does defensive coordinator the Tar Heels to slow Don Dion Lewis one way to slow him down B Marvin Austin and get penetration as he did in a previous play that Baldwin took off the screen stole looks for the man-to-man coverage tip fallen incomplete Charles Brown out there on an island with the first team all-big East wide receiver and Jonathan Baldwin and Monday night don't miss an NFC North battle at Soldier Field Brett Favre Adrian Peterson and the Vikings roll into the Windy City to take on Jay Cutler in the Bears Vikings Bears ESPN's Monday Night Football at 8:30 Eastern coverage begins with Monday night countdown served by Applebee's at 7:00 Eastern Vikings need a couple man hugs between the head coach and a quarterback I love you and I love you too just let me check off I want to check off come on third down and 10 big chance for the Carolina defense here the give for Lewis leaves the pile but not far enough good call partner now we get a timeout you can call the timeout here with 303 to go you really don't necessarily need Carolina they're second so we will step aside as North Carolina calls time with 303 to go before halftime they should get great field position there are all kinds of people at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill each with big ideas for the world some want to cure others to find some to invent protect inspire or solve a Carolina we love a good challenge and this planet is a big one so keep an eye on our ideas we see great potential world UNC Chapel Hill mines on a mission when you build on a strong foundation when you were among the brightest and the best when you can learn from those who came before you you can reach new heights pay out to pick one timeout remaining for Butch Davis in the Meineke Car Care Bowl here in Charlotte but North Carolina's about to get the football back with a little over three minutes to go before half-time and they should get great field position now as Hutchins will punt from his own endzone Hutchins averages 41 yards per kick the season flags down it'll be a false start when the kicking from a little deeper in his own end zone now well start number 22 kicking team after distance to the goal walk out antwuan replaying out there in that end and i played that position it's lonely out there you feel like an offensive tackle especially when you got a speed guy with a low number on you thinking man is he coming is he's coming cuz Pitts going to be in there protection mode first cover second mentality Hutchins tries to angle one up the sideline pretty good kick seriously from the 46 makes the first man mess out of bounds at the 40-yard line of North Carolina and actually out of bounds at the 38 yard line as we check in with quit Bob TJ Yates after that pick his 15th of the season pacing up and down the sideline this is a young quarterback who recently was booed at a North Carolina basketball game on December 1st against Michigan State when his picture was shown up on the video screen the following week he actually went to the SEC title game and sat behind Florida's bench and watched Tim Tebow he wanted to see how Tebow interacted with his teammates who wanted to see how Tebow hated overall situations but clearly his confidence right now is shaken after that last Peck he's got a beat TJ Yates he kept worried about beat Tebow just like Dion Lewis earlier in the ball game after he fumbled he came back real strong he needs to come back strong Nate's on a roll out to the sidelines too little he's got it ruled a catch out of bounds at the 20-yard line by the fingertips Greg little held on to that ball took Garchomp man was he that's the probic gjx that's a way to come back I love the call by shoot to get him involved throw the ball downfield Greg little catching the wrong end of the spiral copier that's it it it goes our ESPN colleague that's he better get that sound board up and protect your face protect the chops let's see there's Greg there's kind of woman Houston spins down to about the 18 yard line and that will take us well inside of two and a half minutes to go before half-time North Carolina's still but one timeout I want to check with Greece with something I think it's important after after TJ aids makes a poor decision I like the fact I'm just as a quarterback yeah did you like it when the part where the coach comes back Sam go ahead Tom shrunk down to the shore and then they got him outside the pocket which he throws best outside the pocket and he's a good long deep passer very good long passer little motions on second down and off Ryan Houston hit right at the 20-yard line and drop by dan.mason a loss of a yard it'll be third down and 10 about that shoe a little runs one step and wrapped two steps to squeeze and bring your feet nice I've been here this all year here's 238 paths bring your feet off the field third and ten will they come these guys are coming with tackle ins a dance Bob you got to have your feet to dance and bring them here comes the Blitz and record throws up his back foot looking for little and Linnet broke his route off so it'll be fourth down at the 20-yard line it's a good call by Phil Bennett Pittsburgh not known to blitz and bring pressure right there they had the offensive line and the protection scheme little messed up for North Carolina caused the pressure in the quick throw well the reason he got rid of it so quickly is because he knew he couldn't block the Blitz that was coming that was a good good good blitz by Pittsburgh JC Barth comes out to try a field goal to even things up from 37 yards away he knocks it right down the middle Casey Barth the younger brother of Conor Barth north carolina's all-time field goal leader it's a family tradition and we are now tied at 10 it stalled on their last drive but as we take a look at our Mazda Drive recap a couple of possessions ago and we saw the best that Dion Lewis has to offer yeah I told you if you got good enjoy watching this kid play and you aren't touchdown run captain he's got the speed he's got the quickness he's got the strength he just you know it's just amazing so much talent at such a young age for Dion Lewis we've got the big people movers up front too which helps always helps in running back but those guys can move people they move people it offensive line of the Panthers these are both programs that are trying to take another step towards where both coaches certainly Sunday envision that they will be North Carolina last time they won nine games or more was in 1997 so Butch Davis already has them with back-to-back eight win seasons and they wants that three losses this year by an average of only three point six points what a season it could have been if just a couple of those close games had gone his way obviously the last two Backyard Brawl they lose by a field goal at the buzzer to West Virginia and then they muff the snap on an extra point against Cincinnati and losing the closing works trying to win 10 for the first time in 27 years so that deal and we're building bucket to the cauldron what is not a building block for Casey Barth in this next drive is to squib the ball out-of-bounds no time comes off the clock and saw a minute five seconds to go in all three of your timeouts if Pittsburgh gets the ball off the 40-yard line number 11 North Carolina by rules they like to take the ball on a 40 yard line first down well Pittsburgh has moved the ball the last three drives finally getting them some points they opened up with a seven play drive that got all the way down and field goal range and missed and then a fumble at the one-yard line by Dion Lewis but his touchdown run on a short field stretched the lead North Carolina has come back to tie 210 great field position now though with a minute to go in the first half stall over the middle it's wide open once again mike shanahan inside the 40 yard line eventually this isn't a half-time adjustment that Evert withers has a state to his linebackers boys they've thrown the deep dig that's a square about 15 to 17 yards they've thrown it 33 times and guess what happens all three times they've completed it now that's a credit to Pittsburgh in the execution of the deep squaring it's a credit to Bill stall for standing tall and strong in the pocket executing the thrown own he's going to get one into the rib cage and it's poor execution from the linebackers of North Carolina you got a minute 10 to go all that little stuff that's happening underneath you disregard it forget it it's nothing that is window dressing up you came back to the dig you can't stop us from throwing digs over the middle of the field why because sure I can't Bob I turn and run and look up the big block so let's go to the other side they filled to dig the other way do we have 11 guys out there I check down I'll just hit the guy right there down till the cows come on whoa I got a 110 to go Dave Tim passion baby out there so we can chalk second oven the last I'll be the wind you beat me on the chalkboard all day first there that slips onto the sidelines during dickerson to the 31 yard line stays in bounds that rolls the clock a must pit ops to use their second timeout it looks like they will try and hustle up to the line here and this is all set up by poor execution of the useless squib kick which I I don't know why that just tells me you'll trust your coverage start under suppression that stripped away and star is able to jump on top EJ Wilson came around from left end and gets the strip of stole not only did you lose the yardage yet to call timeout their second big EJ an audition for the NFL watch right here he's gonna beat him with speed beats Lucas Nixon Lucas has a hard time with him all night but when you have speed and power like EJ but we do t early on the two coaches mirroring these two programs and the first thing they want to build is a strong aggressive defense but was one stat telling us two years ago he brought in 16 over the last two years he brought in 16 defensive linemen because he wanted to make sure he had a strong aggressive defensive line to lead that defense and this is what both teams have they're built the same they have a great both of them have great defensive lines third down in 14 stole again over the middle and again it's the same in that's run by Shanahan for a first down you can't cover dirt now ever there's things about playing zone you hear the hurry up huddle and the spike the tryin saves some time 17 seconds to go and that maintains the timeout you lose it down but it maintains the timeout here's the thing you cannot cover dirt in zone coverage everything is matchup zone you understand this down a distance situation is thirty fourteen as a linebacker they threw that over the veteran Bruce Carter turn and face the receiver up turning your zone coverage in the man coverage then you take away the play so you're trying to tell me that linebacker is going to cover a wide receiver coming full speed in this situation absolutely is going to cover to him I'm gonna sit there I'll take that matchup anytime after the spike second and ten stalled underneath made by makes the catch and you'll have to most likely spend your last timeout is he's brought down shy of the first down marker Quan Sturtevant makes the stop and there's the timeout called by Pitt from their sideline with six seconds to go and the half and they'll simply send the field goal unit out right now at Greece I want to tell you how I'm gonna do that now I'm not gonna make a statement and not be able to tell you how and why I understand the route I understand where the receiver has to come and if I turn into my zone and look him up and I ball his rear and understand I can play him man-to-man now you're gonna ask me to cover them all over the field there's no chance well mike shanahan who's been the target on that deep square in for the most part here in the first half he has four catches in the first half today he had ten catches all season coming into today's game so a seldom-used weapon obviously John Shoop saw something well a lot of the time they'll put him in the slot and he worked the middle of the field some guys are better work in the middle than others pardon me Frank Cignetti saw something here's a 31-yard field goal to try and break the tie before half-time for Hutchins he's 1 for 2 so far in the first half that one is good luncheons 2 for 3 and that gives Pittsburgh the lead and that takes us to halftime 13 to 10 hit on top so only a three-point lead for Pitt in spite of the fact 212 yards of total offense the first half for Pittsburgh let's go down took Quinn Casman coach you said earlier this week you weren't sure how your team would react coming off the Cincinnati loss how did they react well we we missed the field goal away in week we fumble a touchdown out of the back of the end zone so we're we're moving the ball on offense and and defensively I think we're playing sound you know we just got to try to create some more turnovers and get a little more pressure going aside what was going on in your mind when dion did fumbled up on the goal line oh he's the best here i know he'd come back i wasn't worried about it he's hey he's one he's not least least of my problems thanks coach Pittsburgh at halftime now let's join rece Davis he has the cars.com halftime report Reese all right guys they didn't take Bonnie long to figure out that freshman's right on his side i Diablos for the five first half go ahead have you with us on the cars.com halftime report Lou Holtz Marc may alongside least of Juan ease problems has been one of the bigger North Carolina problems so far and that stopping the running back Dion Lewis she's had a spectacular first half everything wasn't perfect in the first half but he still had a tremendous first half he had 11 rushes for a hundred and one yards in the first half of the touchdown but the key is if you're top-notch player makes a mistake just a little mistake here two hands on the football protect it don't be diving out there but the bottom line is you continue to go back to the wall and lost the football there but Dave wants that smart or Nothing savvy enough to continue to give the football to him beyond another spectacular one he's been doing this the entire season the freshman has been fantastic from day one here he's gonna take it in on the next play he is the key to the Panther offense and will be next year in the year after that because he does it the right way runs hard smart player doesn't make a lot of mistakes over a hundred yards again already in the first half against a very good North Carolina defense a defensive for the most part this season is carried the Tar Heels the offense on the other side has let them down a couple of times what did you think about the the drive that ended with the interception off the hand of TJ well when you're on the sideline and you have a great defense all of a sudden the team got 212 yards off face you say we're going to have to match that with our offense so what they do they decide to play Smash Mouth football they gave the ball to Ryan Houston he did a tremendous job they can watch him running down here I mean time after time they're picking up eight ten yards a try remember this Brian Houston only averaged three point eight four try the entire year but look at the effort now they get down there they run one play and now they're going thought there's some third down he's scrambling he's looking they're in a lot of room hey you got three on the board don't take it up not only if that guy had to intercepted it the next guy would I mean you just don't make mistakes like that you took three points off the booth especially a veteran quarterback Yates has played a lot from North Carolina certainly past that he would like to have back Pittsburgh with a 13-10 lead on North Carolina at the break in the Meineke Car Care Bowl still to come on the cars.com standard pittsburgh has a three point lead on North Carolina might have been bigger if not for an uncharacteristic mistake by Dion Lewis but boy did he make up for a touchdown there is over a hundred yards that is the nightcap in our tripleheader tonight the Emerald Bowl Boston College and USC eight o'clock Eastern Time B C's been excellent in bowl games USC and somewhat uncharted waters in the Pete Carroll era they're typically in a BCS game or the national championship game how will the Trojans respond USC boss Pete Carroll with our Joe tessitura coach after being with the team this week and watching your practice I am NOT gonna question motivation or enthusiasm stuff was very spirited this week but I do want to know with the Joe McKnight situation what effect has that had on you and the team well just disappointment for it you know for the having to go through it for Joe you know and we're alright we're working hard you know it's like a guy got banged up and you can't play and that's how we have to deal with it but it's just been it's been disappointing for you know for us to watch Joe have to go through that because it's something that isn't gonna get resolved until you know till later so it's disappointing but that's not a factor your freshman quarterback had an interesting comments him he said hey I'll admit the grind of the season got to me but the past few weeks he says mentally physically I feel like I'm fresh what do you expect out of him well I'm hoping he'll play real sharp football game the extra you know attention to a game plan when you have three weeks to get through it is gonna help him just getting a break away from the season and then starting over again has happened to the finals period I think helps him also you know anytime a first-year guy gets a break and comes back everything looks a little bit different I don't know if this was enough of a break but we're expecting that to play real sharp good football he's had great reps and we're counting him to give us a chance to win football game for the casual sports fan out there that's used to seeing USC and BCS games and they're just waking up to what happened this season what's the quick explanation you give to that guy well we didn't handle the transitions of the losses from last year as well as we have another year so that's simply that you know big quarterback transition huge transition on defense that we thought maybe we could manage our way through it and and we needed to help a young quarterback we didn't play good enough defense because of it and so we just have to work go to work and get back at it and climb our way back you know into a position that we're really proud of thanks coach Joe Carroll you'll see his team tonight against Boston College I'm sure you know the Joe McKnight situation involves the use of an SUV and alleged use of yes you viewed that supposedly belonged to Midnight's girlfriend and whether any rules were violated that's why his status appears to be unfavorable when the Trojans take on BC now Joe didn't want to talk about motivation I'm not sure motivations even the right word s he's gonna come out and compete one would think because of the way the season ended what do you make of the less than stellar season the by USC standards unsuccessful season the Trojan is just finished well I think it's a hiccup I think it's one of those things when you look at USC yes it wasn't this spectacular year that we're used to seeing USC going to BCS bowl games ruling over opponents the entire season long they played a freshman quarterback at that position and they played a lot of younger players on defense so they're really rebuilding this is a rebuilding year for USC had some bad games in between but this game is a huge stepping stone as a building block to next season and they have to perform well in this game and I think it's a challenge for Pete Carroll his coaching staff to get these players ready to play because they've only known playing BCS bowl games seven years they don't have to rebuild all the sudden they're gonna rebuild cuz they don't go well Pete Carroll is a great football coach six years ago I went down and what Southern Cal played when they were preparing in the Orange Bowl I've never seen a football team practice with the intensity I'm talking about physicalness enthusiasm etc when you lose a lot of coaches I say coaches more so than athletes you lose this are cheesy and you lose Nick hold you lose all these different people it's hard to replace and somewhere along the line they've lost that swagger I have no doubt about it the peak air will get a back he got it there once and what people don't understand Pete Carroll's a great motivator Pete Carroll has a great way with his football players I have the utmost respect for this was disappointing season they will be back maybe starting tonight so you're saying usc's lost their swagger I'm saying that it's not the USC you said that they lost their swagger yeah you know what you know it's sort of amusing is to watch both of my partners from time to time so to hold on to the remnants of a dynasty truth in both men and both sides of the argument right USC we'll see how they some say David Abernathy's extraordinary confidence began at birth when he congratulated the doctor on a perfect delivery he later approached the much still being in the mid-american conference so Marshall gets a victory there Rick mentor on his way out Doc Holliday is going to take over that program tell me who you think thus far and Bowl week has been the most impressive team to you I think it was in the Las Vegas Bowl the game that the three of us called I think BYU the way that they came in and that gave me had a mindset their head coach Bronco Mendenhall RIT had them ready to play they had an edge about them the entire week but what BYU did to a ranked Oregon State came in this game to tie it into her spectacular Dennis Pitta five catches for 45 Andrew George another tied in four catches 46 but max called the quarterback threw for three touchdowns in this game and I think the key in this game as they put the pedal to the metal early yes you look at the final score was 44 to 20 but after three quarters of play it was 32 7 and BYU dominated in this football game falling to me I thought it was Rutgers I thought Rikers you don't had a little disappointing year in several respect I guess the major teams like Cincinnati and West Virginia they weren't real competitive they lost their surgery but boy they were phenomenal in his full game but here's what impressed me most is the freshman so new is today these savage the quarterback the true freshman to do they had a freshman running back through defense warm they're always gonna play good defense by the coach I Greg Schiano but it's a fact that they're talented people that played so well and you're only freshmen I think it speaks volumes about their future you know sometimes it can be overstated the impact on the strength of conference was certainly great start for the Mountain West and pretty good start for the Big East Big East in a battle right now build lean muscle and give their more this is ESPN's presentation of Capital One Bowl week welcome back to the Meineke Car Care Bowl just about set for the start of the second half between Pitt and North Carolina and it's a three point lead at halftime for Pittsburgh Bothell shusun Bob Griese Chris Spielman upstairs Quint kaznyk downstairs and guys we started this game talking about these two defenses the defensive lines in particular and how they might dominate that was anything but the case a lot of offensive yards put up by both offenses in the first half well let's take a look at North Carolina defense you know you have Dion Lewis who's gone for a buck one against the defense that's given up 93 yards a game which led the ACC they got to find a way to slow him down and one pass plays earth them it's a deep square in about 17 yards their linebackers got to get the jab yeah I mean we just have to avoid the middle linebacker you know and you know a guy with some talent should be able to avoid a linebacker you know coming to the middle of the field he should now Bob North Carolina deferred their option to the second half so they start the second half with the football their offense sputtered a bit after the great touchdown catch by Greg little did they had the ball five times in the first half had two turnovers so they got to come out and take advantage of the possession first in the second half the North Searcy from the goal line will bring it out as to the 15 and barely out to about the 19 yard line let's check in with quit Bob I walked onto the field with Butch Davis first thing defensively pointing to his defense having problems with Pitts motion and the shifting that they're doing free snap he says it's causing his defense to overthink things which in terms are playing a little slow I asked him about Dion Lewis 101 yards he kind of looked at me with an angry look and said we got to tackle better and lastly TJ Yates the pic he threw at the goal line asked him what he said when he came over to the sideline and said you got it just got to be smarter there can be no maybe throws in the red zone you got to be a hundred percent sure now that cost them certainly at least three points as they turned it over but they came right back after a defensive stand and speaking of defense Nick Williams the co Biggie's Defensive Player of the Year along with Greg erroneous on the same defensive line comes up the middle and gets his 16th tackle for loss this season he is quick nobody blocked him that's not fair neighbors combination as you mentioned he's a code Defensive Player of the Year and the Big East and hey somebody's got to put up to the helmet on in the least questionable offensive strategy to not block the toe defensive player that wasn't supposed to be the first play of the second half second and 18 gates from the five swings it out on the flat to Houston and he gets out to the 14 yard line well it was a rollercoaster of a first half for TJ Yates white makes a great thrill for the first touchdown too little in the corner have got him back in the ball game good play there by Romeo's on the screen pass and just a poor decision quarterbacks make decisions on every play it can be very good or very bad and that was a bad choice by Yates a touchdown and an interception in the first half he has two more picks than touchdowns thrown this year third down and long well protected looks down the sideline with a stick little incomplete and Barry was able to recover as that ball was just slightly under thrown but Greg little had a step it's a good job by both guys first of all Greg little going up and trying to catch the ball at his highest point and Barry not quitting even though he didn't see the ball and his hands are in good position to make the play and fight to the very end which he was able to knock loose to pick their barriers of veteran corner he's starting his 33rd game for Pittsburgh Cameron Sadler gets hit right at the 50 yard line a flag comes out was the ball ever touched by Sadler I'm not sure it got to him Vaughn Sturtevant hit Sadler right at the 50 he didn't even have a chance to come up and make the catch what happened was the ball was punished so sharp and Sadler had to come up to get it that Sturdivant wasn't aware of how sharp the ball was was punted while looking at the replay you certainly could see that it did hit Sadler but it's a 15-yard penalty so great field position for Dion Lewis to go back to work frustrated the I Lewis fumbles the chance to go into the end zone and all that appeared to do was make him angry and you don't want to make the little guy angry but once again what's helped us get offense most of the game has been outstanding field position whether created by AB or excellent at porec poorly executed squib kick or turnovers or penalties this is the third time the Pittsburgh will start a drive in Carolina's end of the field great average field position really for both teams Pitt looking to add to their lead play-action on a rollout for Bill Stahl that's gone Dickerson and he's up the sideline for about five yards Bruce Carter second-team all-acc at linebacker made the stop as we take a look at the numbers put up in the first half by Bill stuffing a lot of numbers up there mainly he's been going down the middle Stahl is a equal opportunity he'll throw it anywhere to anybody that gets open as most quarterbacks will do Dave once that said it's getting harder and harder to find quarterbacks to fit his offense because he's a pocket passer and all the quarterbacks in high school there's so many I mean it's it's let's play the spread offense that when they come into pit they have to train them beyond Lewis lost his footing after gaining two yards to the 30-yard line Bruce Carter was there it'll be third down and four that's an interesting dilemma that a lot of colleges are going to have that don't run the spread because a lot of quarterbacks around the height in the country in high schools they all play the spread offense so they're not used to being that drop back pocket passer bill Stahl has done an outstanding job and he understands the wait for that last second to take the hit grease to make the throw I've been Baldwin in the slot left third and four they swing it in the right flat a first down catch made to about the 23 yard line - ha-ah ski he's a good player Matt nos you know he's one of these guys it always flies under the radar doesn't get all the accolades and all the rewards and all that but he does the dirty work he is a great blocker for Luis and he's a wonderful receiver coming out of the backfield picking up a first down keep the drive moving crew did as a tailback coming out of high school gained over 7,000 yards in his high school career that's a big tailback under the eye it's Lewis inside the twenty about the 19 yard line for four more yards you know running backs just don't do this to this North Carolina defense Carolina this season in their 12 games held nine of their 12 opponents as a team to under 100 yards rushing for the game the unloose had 100 yards the first half but a lot of that is the commitment by Dave Wannstedt into running the football if you watch the offensive line on running plays they fire off the ball and they come with bad intentions off the football they moved people they changed the line of scrimmage two tight ends again and Luis tries to bounce it outside he's brought down by dinara Searcy I asked Dion Lewis I said what is your favorite running Twitter because that one right there he says where the garden pulls and the full-back gets up there he says I have those two guys it's a power play off tackle and he says having guard pulls the tackle and Oskie is there in front of me and he said that's my favorite one the power play didn't go much for that time but he likes to run it see what they call on third down and four Dan's been the guy in motion right there number 87 a little toss wide to Luis it's covered up by Pittsburgh but all the way back in about the 25 yard line so it'll be a field goal attempt I'm thinking they had to play out there they had big Lucas Knicks pulling from his tackle position and how a tackle can pool as they cracked back with the wide receiver and Luke this mix getting ground down the field you see that he's on touch he doesn't throw block until he's four yards down the field they had something gone but you got to be able to execute hats on Luis he just he just didn't catch the ball and look downfield and didn't put the ball away watches from 42 yards out to try and add to the lead got plenty of leg he's got another he's been pretty good since he missed his first three Street three straight field goal makes in a row for Dan Hutchins and it's a six-point lead for the Panthers so what do you think let's go with the basic package good choice only mine if he gives you options on complete car care and once had them playing for national championships seriously from the six to about the 30-yard line and of course plenty of history has been paid by the North Carolina men's basketball program they're 9 and 3 currently ranked number 10 this season and there'll be an action against Rutgers on Monday at 8:30 Eastern on espn2 so you could tune in and see if North Carolina can hold off the Scarlet Knights and go ten and three to start off the season again that's 8:30 Eastern on espn2 normally North Carolina not a hard basketball program to find on our ESPN family of networks as you can see didn't they just win the national championship last year lose a lot of ball players North Carolina is you know they do guys find their way to these freshmen Greg little so the nearside steps out of bounds at the 37 yard line it's a good way to start to drive something sure something quick and getting the ball into your best offensive player's hands plus it gives them a manageable second impossible third down situations when they get in trouble it's obvious when you get the third and ten second and nine third and 14 this way they start fast now their options to run pass or widen second and three moving the pile for a first down as Ryan Houston with the graduation that we mentioned earlier of those wide receivers for North Carolina and the tight end Quinn going in the second round there not many big play guys in this offensive system little is probably the biggest guy that can make a big play trap hand off Houston with a cutback and a gain of about three yards Capital One Bowl week will continue on ESPN tomorrow night it's Kentucky taking on CJ Spiller and the Clemson Tigers and the Gaylord hotels Music City Bowl Capital One Bowl week on ESPN and ESPN 360 calm tomorrow at 8:30 Eastern 13 straight games including obviously every game this season for CJ spiller he scored at least one touchdown couldn't get a ticket to New York that's right but I'm gonna tell you I would take that kid over all those kids that were in New York I think he is just going to be a terrific Pro Houston runs right for about four more yards and I'm not being expert in the booth I don't care if you're an NFL team what you need you couldn't add a quarterback for ten years you don't take and dhama can sue at the first pick of the NFL Draft you are missing out on easily the best player second yeah I'm not gonna dispute that but you know what wins championships defense no no quarterbacks quarterbacks which is good for the defensive good to say defense we treat because I'm a realist because I know if you don't have a quarterback your chances diminish greatly skirt and floor then maybe you already have a quarterback through your team and you don't need one got a young woman four-man rush gates up the scene beats great throw Johnny white was able to slip to about the 39 yard line and pick up a first down this this is a great throw to a guy that is a big play guy number 34 out of backfield white but there's a little quick release gets out of the way this white kid can play running back he can play wide receiver he's a good catch that's tits big play right there I'm talking about guys that can make plays for Carolina white Johnny White's one of them a good job of the offensive lineman anytime he able to get five into the receiving package that ball is going to come out in a hurry did a good job of protecting giving TJ Yates time Yates wide left and complete nice job by Giovanni Chappell did not get away from Eric Highsmith she had a nice ball game he had to miss tackle earlier on but I'll tell you ever since then he's played really really good football far as making open field tackles and that was a great break on the football from the corner a lot of times you see those guys get stuck in there break that time Chappell exploded out of his break to get a hand to the throwing Lane he's plays the short side are the boundary corner for Pitt you know the other guy who plays the wide side that's a berry they've called his name a lot tonight a little flip and a throw down the sideline Highsmith gets held up they've once that says it was uncatchable was way out of bounds I want Jackson normally a quarterback comes in on offense to catch the ball out in the flat and throw the pass and Dave wants that obviously not agreeing that the call should be pass interference Eric Highsmith though was held up at about the 15-yard line I've never I've never seen the call with uncatchable ever called now you can call holding I don't know if you can call pass interference whether it's catch the ball or not it's always holding as you saw the right hand go onto the shoulder pad in jerk to Jersey there you go that's a 10-yard penalty with an automatic first down our defensive guy in the in the booth nose holding really well doesn't it yeah cuz I got to help my whole life including the bill Fralick who's doing color work for the Pittsburgh radio network who I was talking with him at halftime yeah give me a big hug I said this feels familiar but doesn't it should let me go first and ten for North Carolina after the 10-yard penalty back to the air Yates swings it wide open his little he lost his footing a bit at about the 21 yard line still good enough for eight yards on first down Seabury right there he's looking at the sidelines he's kind of pleading his case and I'm gonna take a guess on what he's plead this case on there was too much room yeah and he's playing in doing why the reason why there was too much room is because you're playing three deep so he has to get up and get deep as the deepest and that allows Greg little just to run a little flat cut and Barry says I can cover this guy let me take him so that's the case he was pleading second down little over a yard to go for a first down Houston since the legs driving picks up the first down the belt stripped away he's got both teams signaling that they have it Greg Rowe meais came up to make the stop and it is North Carolina football so Ryan Houston lost it at the bottom of the pile somebody in a light blue jersey comes up with the double their romance is going to get it out right there now you don't know though it's changing hands a couple of times at the bottom of the file I think it was the left tackle pile jolly that got in there to recover it so after all is said and done in the red zone first down North Carolina we have a jolly and a Holi in this game do whatever you can to try and confuse the play-by-play guy appreciate it underneath catch mated about the 15 yard line by Jeremy Boyd or if he would have been a little bit more patient he had houston sneaking out of the backfield matched up one-on-one with Romina's the defensive end now I understand it's easy to sit up here and say be patient the watch Houston right here now watch him peel off he's gonna be wide open there's nobody there if he just leads him down the field a little bit and let that play develop at six points boys I wouldn't be surprised they come back to that sometime in this ball game may not get the same coverage but it's not a bad idea play-action Yates second of the game for Gregg little as the fastball grease yeah I just got it in there Macie Barth to try and give the Tarheels the lead right down the middle 17:16 North Carolina on top of the Monica car careful two touchdowns now four well informed people are considering Chevy Malibu you look up no you didn't have for me but this Malibu it offers better highway mileage than a comparable Camry or great Monday night slugfest Brett Favre and the Vikings are fighting for prime playoff position but Jay Cutler and the Bears will be on the prowl for an upset again as a vision champs get back on track or will Chicago bear down for a Windy City win ESPN Monday Night Football Vikings Bears at 8:30 major shockwaves don't usually happen during the bowl season a lot of times they happen before the bowl games a lot of typin times they happen after but I can't imagine a story that will send more shockwaves through college football than what we are just learning we don't have all of the details as to where he may be going but it appears the Jeremy Foley the athletic director at the University of Florida has confirmed that Urban Meyer is stepping down as the head coach of the Gators so we're trying to track down as many details for you as we can as we welcome you back to the Monty Karkare bowl bill stall flips one - Henry Han Oskie in the right flat he's upended after about a 10 yard gain but guys right now that's basically what we have Urban Meyer is stepping down as the head coach at Florida I'm a shocked I'm in shock I you know it's what is he going to take another job as he had other problems family problems or whatever we don't want to guess but that is a real shock to me Chris what do you think I to me it's something's going on obviously for him to do this at this particular time so I just hope everything's okay and it's a career choice or a career decision not something that personally he has to do beyond Luis by kendrick bernie is at a tremendous season a corner for North Carolina and again you're right we don't want to speculate right it also on one of the stories says that he's going to be available to the media at the press conference the arrival press conference at the Sugar Bowl so it sounds like I don't know if he's going to coach the Sugar Bowl or not but he's stepping down as the head coach of Florida that's amazing that success ever since he went to Florida just just a great coach third down and two stall underneath first down Doran dickerson to the 49-yard line to another third down conversion to more Pittsburgh but you start to stack up not just what Steve Spurrier did before he arrived and Spurrier leaves for the NFL but now the Gators lose Urban Meyer 95 and 18 all-time in FBS his fifth season at Florida and of course two times in Gainesville wins a national title and he's won every where he's been you talked before that Bowling Green Bowling Green lay action for skull downtown with the football then it wasn't there scrambles forward and actually picks up three yards before he's tackled by Robert Quinn good in Bob's talked about this all year and I asked Bob about the two attributes that are the most beneficial for quarterback first and foremost decision-making then accuracy and right there decision-making by the senior bill Stahl the big he's thought fencing Player of the Year all Big East quarterback makes the decision nothing deep tuck it to get what you can get it's not pretty but it's not an interception and they getting didn't get the ball knocked out of his hand it's not pretty but come back to play another day your pressure again this time he'll be sat pulled down from behind by Quentin Cocles all the way back in his own 45 yard line a loss of seven yards it'll be third down and 14 over here that's one of the defensive lineman goupil's is a backup to those front four guys they've got seven eight guys on that defensive line that are interchangeable North Carolina averages eight and a half tackles for loss per game number three in the nation don't forget about Big East offensive play of the year beyond louis which is a little bit of visible this drive especially a second and six lay clock down to three Stahl has to hurry and the snap surprises him it's behind him and it's covered up back at the 30-yard line the play clock was inside of two seconds to go and still bill Stahl didn't think the snap was coming well the center doesn't know he's got his he's got his head down between his legs looking back for some direction Stahl was just he was busy looking at the clock looking around should I take a timeout that wasn't a nice Drive at all for the Panthers so that takes us to the end of the third quarter in the Meineke Car Care ball Oh one-point game going to the Reese Davis and our college football studio a shocking story is unfolding in college football Urban Meyer head coach of the Florida Gators is stepping down after five seasons at the helm in Gainesville there is no immediate health concern according to someone close to the Florida football program Meyer is making this choice just based on personal decisions here's what he's had to say thus far in terms of releasing quotes about his decision to step down as head coach at the University of Florida he said he has spend the most of his last 24 years mentoring young man and he has ignored his health for years but recent developments have forced me to re-evaluate my priorities of faith and family after consulting with my family dr. machen who is the president of the University of Florida Jeremy Foley who's the athletic director there and my doctors I believe it's in my best interest to step aside and focus on my health and on my family I'm proud to be part of the Gainesville community and the Gator Nation and I plan to remain in Gainesville and be involved with the University of Florida 24 years Urban Meyer has been in coaching in college football he certainly has had great impact on young men and after speaking a few moments ago to someone close to the Florida program it was said that when Meyer revealed this decision to his family his family said we're glad we're getting our dad back we'll continue to give you more on this story as it unfolds tonight on SportsCenter Urban Meyer stepping down as head coach of the Florida Gators Rattray's thanks very much here at the Monica Clark hair ball after a punt North Carolina has the ball back in a one-point lead at their own 42 yard line Anthony L Z's first carry of the game good for a couple of yards and there is a flag down on the play holding number 64 offense ten-yard replay first down so guys Bob Gracie Chris Spielman your reaction to what Reese Davis just seemed to term as Urban Meyer's need just to step back from it all focus on his health focus on his family I'm shocked but we don't know exactly why he's doing it so all of our prayers can go out to him and his family and it's got to be a health issue with either him or his family residents in from North Carolina the first and 20 pardon me after the penalty play-action Yates flips it to a wide-open piano it took plenty of room and he's close to a first down of midfield well I think that urban is who he says he is and you practice what you preach when life gives you certain choices and you get to define yourself by those choices that sometimes you have to make a hard choice in this case if it's something health-related right I know a little bit about this that if it is something health-related that he is putting his priority first and that doesn't lessen his passion for Florida or his players but his family is above Florida football as it should be maybe it's just time with his family and that seemed almost be something that he was indicating or that his family was indicating with their reaction this is too young a man just for that Yates throws the bomb looking for little incomplete so it would be third down and two right at midfield for North Carolina this is where Pittsburgh likes the Blitz they don't lit salaat that Phil Bennett white dial blitz up here and if you're going to blitz in a third and two situation you need to defensively get up and challenge a man-to-man to take away the short passing routes Phil Bennett the defensive coordinator there is a matchup you got a linebacker out here on Greg little right there patel's its own instead of handoff to houston spins off the initial and the second effort allows him to pick up the first down next brooder eventually made the stop but Jabal sheered had him at the line and couldn't haul him down Capital One Bowl week continues on ESPN tomorrow night Kentucky and Clemson and the Gaylord hotels Music City Bowl Capital One Bowl week on ESPN ESPN 360 calm tomorrow at 8:30 Eastern the third time these two programs have met in a bowl game and the first since 1993 again it's Houston he spun right into Gus mistake us and atom gun no gain on first down what a nice job this offense is done for the Tar Heels come out in the second half what they've done is they controlled the football a lot and when you do that you keep number 28 Dion Lewis off the field who had 101 yards to start to have and interestingly enough has zero yards right now you take the ball out of his hands that's pretty good in the offense North Carolina's offense is taking the ball to de los Louis's hands Houston with Running Room up the middle clouds his way down to about the 31 yard line for another North Carolina's first down that barmen number 80 took Romi's nice little ride left side of that offensive line 72 is jolly Cooper 64 pilk that's the power back that we've been talking about right there and get good blocking like that and you're tight in 63 to 70 taking Romney s my knees and cab fare to get back to defensive huddle Kirsten ten North Carolina at the 32 of Pitt protecting a one-point lead three maybe four yards for Ryan Houston and let's check in with quit Bob it's interesting the news of Urban Meyer has spread within this stadium as I walk up and down fans who have mobile devices obviously they're clued in to what's going on they keep asking me hey Clinton hey Quinn what happened to Urban Meyer what happened here in Meyer the only people who don't know right now are the players out on the field and both coaching staffs work down on the field and obviously in this day and age it is an instantaneous spread of information second down in 729 yard line with a bunch right there play action for Yates under pressure it's set rag Romeo's gets the sack this is the number one sack group in the nation that came in today with 44 sacks this season their Romans man shirt the old double team over here row mates at the bottom shirt up top coming in and sell those two guys before the game they were out in pants and just shorts they were throwing the football from 1:30 to the end of 30 the two defensive end she is going at the Rome is tonight no and they came over and I said you guys ever played quarterback in high school they would they look like they could play quarterback for tyre anybody play anything they want to there comes the Blitz on third and 13 and Yates goes down again that time it was Nick Williams that's his second sack and the third for this pit defense and that pushes them well on a field goal range it's a punting situation exactly Xu back-to-back shet sacks you see Williams the big fella defensive tackle former fullback using that burst and quickness he's quick is only 6 1 to 80 but he can move around now they're gonna look at that right leg and see what the problem is with McWilliams again the co Big East Defensive Player of the Year with Greg Romeo's on the same defensive line branch shallick trying to play field position the ball bounces at the 10-yard line down to the five and dies right there you can't do it much better then grant shallick just did it killing it at the five the strength of that pit team certainly their defense their offense challenge with terrible field position in a moment so what do you think I think I'll go with the basic package great choice only mine gives you options on complete car care and will help you choose what's right for you your car and your budget at mighty king you're always the driver they say the war tore a hole in the sky that was 30 winners ago I've been walking ever since put that hand on me again you won't get it back I need that boat I know its power nobody touches it with me the Book of Eli Minotaur starts January 15th hi is Deniz working yeah she's in the back can I take your order I'm just a little bit more comfortable ordering with Denise Hey hi you remember me I came by yesterday and gave me that five layer burrito that new one is that cool is that still cool it's an inside deal for everyone layers of seasoned beef cheddar cheese and a hidden layer of nacho cheese sauce it's Taco Bell's new beefy 5 layer burrito for just 89 cents why pay more they're running the men's room marathon with lots of guys going over and over and here's the dash to the men's room with lots of guys going urgently and then there's the night game waking up to go these guys should be in a race to see their doctors right those could be urinary symptoms due to BPH and enlarged prostate but for many guys prescription flomax reduces their urinary symptoms due to vph in one week only your doctor can tell if you have BPH not a more serious condition like prostate cancer when taking flomax avoid driving or hazardous tasks until you know how flomax will affect you as a sudden drop in blood pressure may occur rarely resulting in fainting tell your doctor about all medications you take if considering cataract surgery tell your eye surgeon you've taken flomax common side effects a runny nose dizziness and decrease in semen ask your doctor if flomax is right for you call 877 for flomax to see if you qualify for up to $40 off new or refill prescriptions for many men flomax can make a difference in one week I'm Reese Davis it's our college football bowl update presented to you by flomax don't forget tonight the Emerald Bowl USC taking on Boston College pac-10 taking it on the chin the first couple of bowl games and SC in a non BCS bowl for the first time since Pete Carroll's first here you can see how the Trojans respond and whether spazzy on e and the scrappy eagles will have a little something for them tonight at 8 o'clock Eastern on ESPN Gus all right briefs thanks very much Bob Oh Susan alongside Bob Griese and Chris Spielman down on the field quick kaznyk at the Meineke Car Care Bowl the one-point game here in Charlotte Pittsburgh back to the ground and Dion Lewis from their own five-yard line and he gets out to about the 8th as you start to see that North Carolina defense hum a little bit here in the second half well they're thinking what we're thinking but you got to get Dion Lewis core and it's not too late to get him going but you need to get him door and why right there the second half five carries for three yards I would not stop giving him the ball hey cuz law of averages I think it's going to kick into effect those were the first three yards he picked up here in the second half that last carry second and seven emotion Hanafi into the I give it to Lewis going that way there he goes breaks it out into the open what a great open field tackle by Charles Brown if Brown doesn't make that tackle it is 92 yards and Seija for Dion Lewis Carolina has eight guys at the line of scrimmage and we talk about patients all the time Chris and I in a running back that just shows you he didn't run up he just waited and he just like Chris says he's small enough he can he can get through a minor hole and avoid the tacklers that's what he did right there just waited and waited and squeaked through the Leki and hide and oski throw any key blocks on the power play first and ten Lewis driving his way still on his feet boy he is a powerful 5 foot 8 195 pounds to even pick up three yards on that blood and when linemen see their running back give that type of effort that gives them energy and it makes them want to go and block harder and harder and harder there's a lot of times you know it's a grind being an offensive lineman putting your hand in the dirt and driving people all day with no glory but when you see your running back given his effort man that really inspires those guys toss to Luis a bit of a cutback it's to about the 30-yard line and now with Bob Griese it's time for tonight's five-hour energy playbook and take us back to the touchdown pass thrown earlier for North Carolina nickel is going to come in here and he's going to go up stand he's going to run a skinny post right here now watch the safety on this side right over here he's going to try and get over the play-action fake it's little right up the seam the Seco almost gets there doesn't quite get there the play-action held the safety just long enough to get the ball in I like the fact that Yates recognized he need to throw that ball fast and through the hard ball third down in a yard Louis we reach the football out to about the 31 yard line and it looks like he's going to get the spot right at the first down marker ball if he got it he got it by the nose of the ball and it was the reach just before he hit the turf you know not only does he have the the physical toughness the strength but also the football smarts understanding where he is on the field even though he was stopped just the wherewithal to understand that I need to get the first down I'm not getting with my legs let me get it with my arm and he might up boys he might have they'll run the chains across and see if he did indeed pick up the first down now what do you do you're an inch short at your own 31 yard line and you have not only the biggest offensive player of the year and Dion Lewis but maybe the best true freshman running back in college football do you risk it and go forward it your own thirty-one absolutely it's the bowl game we're not playing for the Big East championship here we're in the bowl game I do they're lining up to go for it they've got Ray Graham in the game another true freshman running back 20 wise the offensive line coach is down there saying get it going boys he wants that umpire to get off the football he's down there circling his arm Hey look at him he's yelling at the linesman right now oh what nine guys Carolina wants guys up there bill Stahl sneaks it gram gives him a shove and he's got the first down no question so buddy against buddy as Dave Wannstedt goes for it on Butch Davis and Dave Wannstedt wins that battle at least for the time being from his own 31 yard line first down in ten for Pittsburgh down by a point Carolina had a good initial push boys they stopped the momentum of Bill Stahl but his offensive line kept working and turning their legs dog kept turning his legs and dr lewis comes in with the Reggie Bush Bush Dion Lewis back in the game run left right behind hi nasty and there's the priest for Lewis can he get to the sideline it cuts it back up inside and he still picks up a first down 13 more yards brought down by Kendrick Bernie several times the full-back Highness key has lined up wide at a wide receiver spot and motioned back into the backfield and it seems whatever side he goes to right here excuse me I got the circles on there 27 Hine oski gonna run behind him he lines up to the left side and go to run left oh boy and he's a he's a heck of a player I bump my boy Bielecki serving it up at the high hop with the pancake Wow there's Hine ask you at the bottom of your screen they send him in motion and he lines up in a I write run our that's where Lewis goes he gets walloped by Bernardo Searcy just shy of midfield picks up three more yards though and Pittsburgh will take the clock down underneath five minutes to go in the fourth quarter of a one-point game I'm looking for a little play-action now just kind of feeling it you know you're getting Louis Lewis Lewis second at seven Baldwin's been a little bit quiet we also had the success of the deep day set up off the play action like this I'm feeling it boys I don't know if it's coming huh no I liked here I like your way you think like the way you think it's single coverage outside and go for one of those guys straight back to throw a stall looks for the whole run down the left sideline to Baldwin and complete great coverage by Kendrick Bernie I just fill it up quarterback in you younger age you were quarterback in the defense so if you think that way that's right that's right Monday night don't miss an NFC North Battle Soldier Field will be the place for Brett Favre and the Vikings as they take down Jay Cutler of the Bears Vikings Bears ESPN's Monday Night Football at 8:30 Eastern coverage begins with Monday night countdown served by Applebee's at 7:00 Eastern said the Bears put a stamp on that male that in for the year down to 10 on the play clock as Pittsburgh comes out of the huddle huge play here third and seven four on the play clock and just get the snap off stall flips one over the middle and there is playing once again again it's mike shanahan making the catch I like the way he got the ball out of there he had to throw it high and soft to get it over the defensive line watch the line Minh put their hands up right there I mean he takes a good shot but he holds on to the ball all they need Pittsburgh right there all they need is a field goal Chris it's the same route yeah that time Carter came in a blitz and Searcy was playing up as a linebacker at a nickel formation and guess what he did he didn't get enough depth that's what he did I'm gonna keep running it back to the ground and Lewis to the 35-yard line for three more yards Kevin Reddick whose freshman Mike linebacker made the stop down to three minutes of 43 seconds to go and with the efficiency of this Drive you wonder if this bird might not be able to take the clock all the way down for Dan Hutchins to just about in the game which be interesting to see where they snap the ball how much time's left on the play clock when they snap it yeah well they're no hurry that's for sure all they need to do is keep making first downs luis cuts it back up inside to the 31-yard line or so it will be third down and three coming up next the Emerald Bowl Boston College will take on number 24 USC and ESPN news postgame expert we'll have more from our game here in Charlotte and also on ESPN 365 we will carry the trophy ceremony dark hair whole lives for you third down and about three and a Pittsburgh picks up this first down Butch Davis is gonna have to start using his timeouts that essentially last third down they went to number two Dorian dickerson back to Lewis up the middle he has stucked at the 30-yard line Kevin Reddick the first man there and this is a pretty long field goal attempt if Dave Wannstedt decides to try it from here Andorian missed this block and now he's over there screaming at somebody as he's walking off the field right here is good line of scrimmage you can say that's offside and he's gonna shoot that's Quan Sturtevant shoot that gap to cause the initial penetration knocking hi now ski off allow the blue shirts to fill the hole but that's being a good defense now that's executing the defense even though Sturdivant did not make the play he slows up hi da ski make it a pile slowing down Dion Lewis and allow the blue shirts to pursue team defense you exactly ruin your part hit takes the clock all the way down and they call timeout hey lady this is no time to play I'm picking a photo for my Capital One credit card give yourself a good name ESPN college football the Meineke Car Care Bowl is brought to you by Meineke come to Meineke for service options that fit you your car and your budget at Meineke you're always the driver and Capital One what's in your wallet they are all on their feet here in Charlotte the Meineke Car Care Bowl with 155 to go is a one-point game Dan Hutchins twice this season from 45 yards away good that's his career long this one from 47 yards out to get bit the lead and they will false start was it a false start or to North Carolina jump into the neutral zone Pitt thinks the North Carolina jumped this would give Pittsburgh a first down Wow Doralee apparently will result in first down ham Thomas one of a couple of players to jumped you saw the center his Hannah he had his head up and he put his head down like he was going to snap it and three guys jumped not just cam Thomas so now Butch Davis is most likely gonna have to start to call his timeouts as Pittsburgh has a first down to the 25 yard line that was a play the whole time that was that was what they wanted to do Dion Lewis brought down at the 25-yard line and the clock rolls because I think Butch Davis needs to think about calling his timeouts here when I agree with you Bob absolutely unless you're playing on the fact that you're hoping that their field goal kicker misses but even if he misses you can then take a knee the game's over just about in that situation anyway three timeouts left bought tikki the bump Pittsburgh a do not snap that little two there two seconds left on that play clock yeah but you know that's not a given that he's going to make it from that by offense I want him to keep making first downs Lewis down to about the 22 yard line and finally now Butch Davis calls a timeout with 1:05 to go timeout not the first time out called by North Carolina will step aside the last minute five when we come back Capital One Bowl week continues through January 2nd okay oh three pickup what a game we have here in charlotte between two old friends Dave Wannstedt is Pittsburgh Panthers taking on Butch Davis and his Tar Heels 1:05 to go on the Meineke Car Care Bowl 3rd down and 7 after the North Carolina timeout for Pittsburgh at the UNC 22 yard line in a one-point game you want to run the ball be smart enough to place it in the middle of the field keeping it away from the sidelines to give your kicker the best angle possible Dion Lewis moves the pile down to about the 16 yard line not too far away from a first down depending on the spot it looks like he's about a yard shy and North Carolina calls their second timeout with 56 seconds to go most likely this will set up a potential go-ahead field goal attempt when we return forbidden switching to Geico really save you fifteen the number one movie in the world avatar pretty pg-13 but Susan Bob Griese and Chris Spielman put kismet back in Charlotte at the Meineke Car Care Bowl van Hutchins missed his first attempt of the day he has made his last three yards away now to give Pitt the lead under a minute to go the snap hi they put it down and Hutchins puts it through big kick snap was good to hold with championship teams do they score when they have to you've got a second-team all-big East kicker that has performed certainly at the top of his game today he barely missed from 40 yards on his first attempt on the opening drive for Pitt but he has come back to connect from 31 yards 31 yards 42 yards and now a 33 yarder to give his team the lead and now North Carolina will get the football back with the timeout 52 seconds to go and they have a heck of a field goal kicker of their own encounter Bart that they can put him in position to try and win it let's see with Pittsburgh besides the squib kick it member North Carolina tried to squib kick and they didn't execute it went out of Bounce or do they kick it deep and Trust your coverage team because the squib kick you're going to be at the 30 to 35 yard line so give him a little bit of a head start guys how about the drive for Pittsburgh it started at their own five-yard line it took eight minutes and 47 seconds off the clock 17 plays to set up the go-ahead field bill who got involved who wasn't involved earlier in the second half was Dion Lewis that 12 carries close to 50 yards in the second in the fourth quarter given a rock so now Luke Briggs will kick it off tiny white dinars Searcy are back deep to receive if it gets through to them the rig's will send a deep eight yard line to the 20 it's out across the 32 about the 33 yard Long's a pretty good field position for North Carolina Jeremiah Masoli leads the pac-10 champion Ducks against her terrelle pryor of the Buckeyes it's the granddaddy of them all the 2010 Rose Bowl game presented by City Ohio State and Oregon coverage begins New Year's Day at 4:30 Eastern on ABC the Rose Bowl lives here first down so Pittsburgh's off sides on the kickoff which will take North Carolina out just shy of the 40 yard line well that that's a rule that they've changed in recent years to speed up the play of the game because in the past they would have had to kick that ball off again giving North Carolina a chance for a kickoff return I think that's at Vantage Pittsburgh left to kick that ball again Oh 46 seconds into timeout for North Carolina Green Man Rush Yates to the sideline white makes the catch only about a four yard game what an opportunity for TJ Yates been a tough year young line young receivers he's been up and down this is a chance to make a name they don't have to go too far I mean they're on the 40-yard line they just have to get another 30 yards and they'll be in field goal range as time Yeats goes to PNL to light at the first down marker and it's knocked away by atom gun you know in these situations and Chris as a quarterback what I liked was unlike a for vertical spread everybody across the field get everything your defense but out and send all your guys straight down the field and maybe look one way look look off some defenders and come back and hit the guys between the defenders going straight up the field but that's not there you have a check down yeah Gregg littles had the big day he's in the slot right again a three-man rush under pressure Yates escapes fires wanting to play almost intercepted a chance for Elijah field to jump the route intended for Highsmith now it's fourth and seven - Boyd had it right in his hands but Elijah fields I think shielded his vision because see Boyd come in good job by eight stepping in the pocket keep his eyes downfield if Fields comes in and gets into vision of Boyd to drop the football yeah he's a little robber right there in the center of the field his own coverage but he was free to go wherever he wanted just watching the quarterback size takes him to the ball had nobody threatened of deep so he's sitting right here can it wait to see where can I help gates on fourth down trying to keep the hopes alive right at the first down marker Pianalto it depends on the spot they will stop the clock with 25 seconds to go we're going to give it to him North Carolina needs to step up and snap the ball and Spike it and they do and they only lost one second off the clock as it stopped with the first down now it's second down in 10 24 seconds to go still a timeout they only need about 20 yards 22 yards to get down to the 30-yard line they wants that is the Godfather of Butch Davis his oldest son two friends going at it in the closing moments TJ Yeats floats one of the sidelines knocked away almost intersected and incomplete off the deflection Erik Highsmith had a chance how did javonni Chapelle not intercept that ball it shows a nice little vertical right here you got to be careful and does a good job of breaking and adjusting his hips jumping as high as he can knocking it away from Highsmith you don't want to get nosy even though it's toward the end of the game you can give up the ten yard route don't worry about that just don't get beat behind and give up to 15 to 20 yard Ralph they're playing a little bit of tight press coverage jamming them at the line of scrimmage we got it over the middle tipped ball and complete it'll be fourth and ten the slot receiver to the wide side of the field ran a vertical route and was clear that was break little grease and he's over to satellite support and I was open I was open yeah doesn't need to tell the sidelines that he needs to go back until 13 now guys with 12 seconds to go fourth and 10 first down might not be good enough you might only have time here for two more plays you probably need to pick up about 23 or 24 yards on this play to call your timeout have a realistic shot at a field goal Yates on fourth down steps up throws one high in and complaint battle in the game intended for Peralta the Panthers defense holds at the end and there's the bat for Dave Wannstedt big bowl games don't mean anything look at the jubilation and the excitement 10 wins from Pittsburgh but not only did Pittsburgh lose their last game against Cincinnati but they lost their last two games to West Virginia and a Cincinnati first time in 27 years at Pittsburg roll of 110 10 games in a season great football game guys really was good physical old school football let's pound it so bill stole will get to do the honors and take a knee and for the second straight year North Carolina loses a heartbreaker of a bowl game in this very Stadium last year they lost by a point to West Virginia this year which Davis sees his team go down by two to his old friend Dave Wannstedt 19 to 17 is your final number 17 pit outlasts North Carolina and they have now won 10 games for the first time since 1981 for tonight's player of the game brought to you by Capital One Dion Lewis a hundred and fifty nine yards rushing and a touchdown and quit is with the winning head coach coach how do you best characterize that last drive our guys we needed data up players hate to say deserved up but I mean the fight that they had from the opening kickoff to the end I mean that's good consistent with these guys all year long and and you need that some point win a game like this and I'm so happy for these seniors in the whole team what were you thinking when Dan Hudson's put that ball through the uprights well you know Danny walked on here and under scholarship and he he I don't know I knew he was gonna make I mean I really did add confidence on what does a 10-1 season mean for your program coach well I you know I think people around the country know we're back then they know that Pitts a national contender and and we're just trying to take it one step at a time and 10 wins for these seniors in the program hadn't been done a long time we all know that but it's great for Pitt great for our University congratulations Carter good Bob alright quit so Babel on stats team lost by a field goal to West Virginia in the backyard brawl in the second last week of the season then for basically the biggies championship lost by only a point to Cincinnati in a thriller well today they win a thriller 1917 over North Carolina and the Meineke Car Care Bowl coming up next the 2009 Emerald Bowl for Chris Spielman Bob Griese and quit casma come Bob Oh Susan this has been a presentation of ESPN the worldwide leader in sports hit as the Meineke Car Care Bowl champions now back to Reese in our studios nabob had a good one there here is matt barkley who says the grind of his freshman season wore him down he's had a chance to rejuvenate and he leads the trojans tonight against Boston College and the Emerald Bowl it is coming up at the top of the hour glad to have you with us here in the studio reach Davis alongside my Hall of Fame running mates Lou Holtz and Mark May a story that is sending shockwaves across college football is dominating the landscape tonight it's really tough to find a comparable situation maybe Phil Jackson leaving the Bulls Flynn Chicago is at the zenith of winning but there were some front office issues there maybe you could go Bill Cowher leaving the Steelers not long after winning a Super Bowl but perhaps the most likely comparison would be Jim Brown simply walking away when he was at the pinnacle of his career Urban Meyer is stepping down as the head coach of the Florida Gators five years as a head coach in Gainesville two national championships two SEC championships Meyer 45 years of age has just been outstanding from the time he set foot in Gainesville 32 and eight in Sec play it's a top SEC career winning percentage among head coaches who were in the conference five or more years as for the reasons here's what her bin' had to say whoa I have given my heart and soul to coaching college football and mentor and young men for the last twenty four plus years I've dedicated most of my waking moments the last five years to the Gator football program urban went on to say I've ignored my health for years but recent developments have forced me to re-evaluate my priorities of faith and family after consulting with my family doctor machen who's the president at the University of Florida Jeremy Foley who's the athletic director there and my doctors I believe it's in my best interest to step aside and focus on my health and family I'm proud to be a part of the Gainesville community and the Gator Nation and I plan to remain in Gainesville and involved with the University of Florida I'm told by someone very close to the Florida program this has been a very difficult decision for Meyer you probably recall that he checked into a hospital the day after the SEC Championship game Austin Bama with dehydration not sure what the connection is there I'm told there is no eminent health danger and is nothing that is life-threatening at the moment Meyer for years has also with with a cyst on his brain that during periods of extreme stress or excitement can give him headaches but that is not thought to be at least at last report life-threatening in that situation now who you know Orban Meyer very well he's a young man he's at the height of his profession right now what's your reaction to this decision at the moment for him to step down at Florida I am completely surprised by it but once again if it's his health it has that obligation this chilled he has two lovely daughters that are excellent athletes are going on to college on scholarship athlete color chip he has a younger son he has a beautiful white he has to be dedicated then but he also it's a football coach he loves football I certainly hope his health is going to be okay if it's health it's gonna be okay in the long run I think Urban Meyer will be back why do I say that because if you're a football coaching you live in all your life you miss it you'll almost need it like oxygen to breathe and for me it was very shocking today first and foremost I want to make sure that to tell her but in his family that I hope it's not a serious health issue bottom line is I was just as shocked today as I was about ten years ago when Joe Gibbs my head coach of the Washington Redskins decided to step down from the Washington Redskins after having tremendous success with that organization this is just as stunning to me at this point in time in his career or admire on the field to play what he was able to do with his teams it's been outstanding from day one from Bowling Green the undefeated this season at Utah going and win championships at Florida what he's been able to do and not only that the way that he's treated young men helping them this succeed on and off the field of play I think that's something he can always be proud of in the bottom line I think urban will be back because his coach says you're a coach you've got that burning desire and I just loved the way that his teams were prepared for the big games you know it's interesting urban has said for a long time that he was not a guy who was going to coach until he was you know 65 70 years old but I think even he at the time when he made those types of quotes anticipated coaching until he was at least 50 or so now again we're gonna find out more in the coming days that will shed more light on exactly why Myers made this decision how serious the health issues are as he alluded to in terms of trying to focus on his health but you know right now you look at this and you wonder if it's not a health situation if this is a reaction to the stress and the grind that's part of being a big-time football coach if anybody calls me and I'm thinking about this or this I say don't make a decision when you're tired you're under pressure you're under stress get away from it don't make an emotional decision they had unbelievable success there then they lose a tough football game and then all of a sudden now if it isn't health just don't make good decisions when you're tired and not only for me I go back at he was the same type of coach Joe Gibbs 24 hours a day working late at the office sleeping over at the office making sure the game plans to write the players were prepared nothing after a while you get to a point where you may get mentally burned out and you may need to step back for you to you know you look at this now and people have talked about how there will be no more Bobby Bowden's there will be no more Joe Paterno's nobody was on a bigger wave of success than Urban Meyer right now what do you think mark as you look across the college football landscape and you've seen it for years how has it changed being in charge of one of these major powerhouse programs well it's changed because you're under the microscope 24/7 365 with the internet with talk radio with all the television shows out there it's not like it used to be in the 70s in the 80s and 90s where coaches could have some downtime to relax and recharge now you're 24/7 all the time you're in front of it you're recruiting you're out there selling the program you're out there selling yourself and after a while that has to take effect with the coaches now because it's a different type of game than it was I think everybody's family and backgrounds different I was so blessed to have a wife who protected the children did care about coach and just worried about raising a family all the nonsense everything else being gone from home staying at the office watching film the wife accepts that the family accepted hey that's just part of the job at spur thing yeah but you do it because you love it because the impression you make on young people and the difference you make of their lives you love the thrill the competition to be able to evaluate it's a free enterprise system but their very best when you win you're rewarded when you lose you're fired that's the way life should be not everybody's going to be able to win and even though I'm too old you still miss it when you start talking about somebody walks way and I love Urban Meyer as I say great coach great friend but also love my family and my son's he's been great to all of us for sure Louise you you you coached in the different eras how did it compare when you were coaching say at Arkansas good football tradition they care about in the state versus the time when you finished up by the time you finished there the last year's Notre Dame in at South Carolina I think the internet makes the biggest difference I think the media you get somebody in the media and there was one guy in the media it says I don't like Bluehost I didn't like him when he was coaching NC State and I was a student in North Carolina he had never met me knew nothing about all he does is and moan right- say you just have to learn to live with it but it alderman Lee hurt you in the long run but here's the worst thing about it's the internet as Mark mentioned somebody can write on the internet so and so he's having an affair
