hey there boys and girls youtube world today duff dog and i are gonna see if we can't get this 1956 cadillac 365 cubic inch engine running that's right part two we ain't hungry up yet so we can't get it running here we go [Applause] [Music] this thing uh cleaned up pretty good i'm not sure if that's the stamping number actually i'm pretty sure it's this one here at least we're consistent yeah i missed a couple of spots when i cleaned her up we'll spray her down with a bunch of oil so don't get rusty again let's see if we can get this thing loose because i mean that's what you guys all came to see but she's uh lunchtime duff's getting hungry shout out to rhombus guys for hooking us up with some t-rex pizza here we got pepperoni pork roll sausage beef and bacon these guys are out of grand forks so they're local dakotans as well can't wait to give this a shot so thanks for hooking us up with some pizza and beer guys what a thought pizza and a beer sponsor can't wait you get to work i'll cook the pizza [Music] [Music] how bad do our bearings look pretty chewy as does the crank i've never seen that much crap just built up in a bearing shoot that worked very well dave i'm gonna get that out it's not magnetic [Music] [Music] that there one ain't any better look at how bad that crankshaft is she gonna need touching up and that cap's got like a big blister that popped on it so crank needs to be ground bearings need to be replaced if you're that far you might as well do main bearings seals board out rings pistons gotta find that oil pump awesome that'd be cool at least get it turning over so that it turns over so she's a good core for a hot rod project someday but needs everything shoot i guess when the bottom end of an engine sits full of water does uh bad things to bearings and oil pumps and such i think yeah i think i'm gonna ponder it eat my rhombus guys pizza if you're in the grand forks fargo area i think they might have a store somewhere else in north dakota hit these guys up tell them morsky sent ya appreciate it all right pizza time num num num you want some too huh so after eating our pizza pondering our life decisions this thing needs to come all apart and get rebuilt and we're not going to do it for this car so i think what we're going to do is just put this thing all back together so it's all in one piece maybe save it for a rainy day project one of you guys really needs a 365 cadillac core hit me up i think we're gonna just slam this thing back together for now and i might have another plan but it might not so set this thing back together it needs bearings pistons rings board oil pump needs a valve job gasket set and a lot of this is pretty much unobtainium rock auto doesn't have a lot of stuff for these which i'm not really surprised i'm sure this stuff's out there but it's going to be a big coin so i mean if somebody's got a oil pump for one of these they want to get rid of okay we could maybe get this the crank needs polished yeah if you got some cadillac parts you need to get rid of hit us up but i don't feel like we're gonna put this thing back together we do have another one though so maybe we'll uh roll that one in and see if we can make enough parts out of the tool to make one arm run but this one just ain't gonna run with the condition that everything is in down here in the bottom end i think we could docker up the valves but we're not going to polish up those rod bearings not to where they're going to last very long anyway so let's stab this thing back together [Music] [Music] [Music] so i got the old 365 cataract why made back together put a bunch of oil in there lubed everything up so should be good to go if you guys ever gonna rebuild it or if somebody's looking for a good core but yeah it's kind of like putting everything back together in one piece so that way it's in one pile and you know what you got you're not looking for stuff scattered all the boats wherever and uh looks better on my estate auction when i die you know stuff like that so i think we'll set this sucker off to the side no idea what i'm going to do with it you need one hit us up morksky repair gmail.com i'll put more information in the description down below on how you can purchase these things yeah damn you cadillacs run a streak of stuck engines here oh need a beer iconic blonde by rhombus guys good stuff oh yeah frick we still got a mess unless you're gonna clean that up duff so you got two cataracts now that one's the 56 this one's a 58 uh before i ever got this 56 a subscriber and i were going back and forth and i got some stuff from him and part of the deal of the things that i got from him was this 1958 cadillac engine it was stuck when he got it he got it from a widow whose husband had it running then it sat for a few years and she believes it was stuck and he couldn't get it running then it just sat and the car has since been parted out but they had this thing sitting around so i got this couple things i do notice is the breather neck is a little bit different he did send a water pump with but it's a little bit too short cadillac script is like block letters on this one and they're uh cursive on the 56. transmissions appear to be exactly the same looks like the guts for the distributor pretty much gone i didn't get a carburetor manifolds are both there they look to be slightly different maybe they are the same they're a little bit different there's that water pump which looks pretty close but it's a little bit too short he said city did pull the starter off and try to pry around in there no go oh this one does have a cooler actual cooler where that behemoth has a heater that runs off the heater hoses on the engine this one doesn't have the heater option so i think what we're going to do is we're just going to go ahead and open this thing up because he said it stuck person before him said it stuck we're just gonna see how stuck it is he said it was sealed up and had a hood on it stuff when he got it which so did that car but we're pretty good at pulling cadillac's apart so i think we'll just pull the intake and heads off and see what we got hot duffer all right here we go well this one had phillips on the valve covers this one's got a quarter inch hardware a little bit different all right let's do this [Music] not seeing a bunch of rust in there play a little whack-a-mole with the valves one for one one stuck valve not bad it's pretty good for us [Music] push rods are spiffy clean compared to the last one [Music] we got one cylinder over here that's a little bit chewy these ones kind of got a dish shape to the piston it looks like somebody had it turning against that rust a little bit we'll get the other side off see we got there [Music] that's no bueno hmm oh yeah that valve stuck too let's see if we only got stuck one on this side i think we gotta have the rocker shaft so i'm gonna point tap on it so you can definitely tell that one's stuck [Music] so yeah this driver's side bank looks really good actually i mean there's a ridge there there's some crap in there but that's just kind of stuff that's flaking off the valves you can see that one valve stuck open don't snap off fixed it and on this side you can see that one's open a little bit but maybe they came back i guess i didn't beat them down far enough so that all looks pretty good again this side's this one's a little bit worse but not bad at all this one's the chewy cylinder showing a little light on it but you can see how it's rustier up here than it was down there like somebody got it to turn a little ways and then said ah no bueno that might have been something to do with that valve with this but it's uh quite a bit better inside than this one you guys saw the push rods those things were in really good shape so i think we'll just vacuum it out and put some oil in there start tapping on those pistons you said these ones got that dish in there that the other stuff didn't have or that engine didn't have duff could give two shakes of his tail about cadillac's apparently okay let's clean out some cylinders so we sucked all the crud out of the cylinder walls i'm gonna put a little oil in there and hit them with the uh hole in here clean it up a little bit and we'll start whacking on some pistons hoping that loosens them up you know right [Music] [Music] you can see where the ridge is at that's this shiny spot up at the top and you can see on this one there's a little bit of pitting going on in there but i think we should be able to get that loose so i think we're gonna get our block start uh tapping away on these so we can't get her to turn i think we'll mark it right off this timing mark here so we know if she moved or not it's like a good idea there duffsky not enthused okay here we go [Music] it's already moving [Music] [Music] what the french [Music] so [Music] um [Music] move it [Music] that's going to hit the bottom because it stopped [Music] oh she goes easy a little while uh [Applause] so hmm [Music] whoa [Music] well the tranny's pumping duff [Music] we got oil pressure well turns over pretty good so i guess try to get some valves loose and throw some heads on it a cataract that turns over brass drifts they're pretty handy they are softer than other materials usually hitting on so it takes the damage out on the drift as opposed to your valves or whatever you're smashing lashing on so i think the problem here is when i hit that the way that these cups are on these springs i'm not hitting the valve i'm just hitting the spring so i'm gonna put this brass drift right on the stem of the valve maybe should be that one's good that one sounds better actually [Music] you tell that one's stuck good so this one's the one i need to address don't break don't take the wrong one apart let's film a beer looks like it was already adjusted for cadillac's set those somewhere where they're going to get all full of dirt whoa oh what are the odds one of the valves is salvageable from that other engine i mean there's eight of them to choose from man it's been like six eight months since we broke a valve so i guess we were due got the right tool for it oh man i don't think that valve is gonna seat in there anyway without doing some grinding or how bad the rest are anybody want to be a valve sponsor so biscuit so i think we're just going to knock a few more of these valves out just to see how bad it is in there when you do address the valve situation before we put it back together i really don't want to but hey look at this i got one of these here uh harbor freight french ticklers the fancy guys like watch west work in his rusty illinois garbage he uh cleans up rust with these things so give it a shot also uh don't google french tickler at work not good not a good idea i'll let you know how it works it's loud though i think [Music] all right we're gonna grind some seats i think is what we're gonna do here we got the uh seat grinding kit out got everything kind of cleaned up with our french tickler here works off pretty good first time i've used it it's loud makes your hands kind of tingly you know ask your lady friend about it but we're gonna go ahead and touch these up a little bit i to be honest i haven't done this for a really i did it one time in high school and then one time this winter with another guy who didn't know what he was doing so so basically you just find this stem that matches your stem diameter slide that in there and you slide your stone in there and then you just hit her quick with that and try to keep even pressure on it you know what a nice perpendicular angle to your bore you don't want to pry on it sideways watch out don't you hit your head on that thing and uh just give her a quick zapparoo you can see just how crappy these are not good this ought to boost our compressions a bit and then i got a valve grinder but i've never used that before so i don't know what these the wire wheel see how they look because i'm not sure if i know how to run that thing anybody got a valve welder all right we're doing it we're doing it duff we'll do it live surely if we do it wrong if your name is surely surely you can't be serious i am serious and don't call me shirley someone on the interwebs will correct us [Applause] there you go easy peasy lemon squeezy oh yeah i forgot you got to get the right stone for what you're doing i just winged it [Music] ah that is stem's to work for the intakes for the exhaust but need a different stone how do we even change stones i don't know be like oh just like that put some wiener slider on there not dumper [Music] [Applause] [Applause] i'm gonna run these over to the hoyer wheel see if we can overhaul those well if the rest of the valves look anything like this exhaust valve i think we'll be all right i mean they could use some touching up but let's be honest i uh ruined the valve seal what's that called anyway taking them out we're not putting new ones on and we're not gonna put new head gaskets in so this will be good enough to fire it up that's what i see [Music] the intakes actually look better than the exhaust i suppose right makes sense maybe if you guys want to see a video on grinding valves uh there's probably one out there somewhere but if you want me to do one put a comment down below we could probably work something out we can show you how to hack it anyway like everything else this intake's got a pretty good radius to it so this one could use some touching up but it's gonna be good enough i know i should be lapping these two but whatever we just want to see it'll run [Music] then after you get those all seated i usually like to tap them a few times just to make sure they are seated good to go we just got to do however many more of them exhaust valve one of those other heads it'll be fun stay tuned [Music] so it didn't quite look right when i dropped this exhaust valve in like the seating surface look at how shot that valve guide is now i don't feel bad about not grinding the valves because she needs guides too that one anyway that is bad rest of them this exhaust a little bit loose all right we're sticking it together i always tell intake and exhaust will obviously exhaust lines up with the exhaust port but exhaust is always smaller because you've got pressure pushing your air out intake you got a little bit of suction pulling it in but not much so your intakes are always significantly larger worthless morsky info for the day [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] well i'm glad we ripped into that that's uh intake and that intake are pretty uh pretty blocked up that's a lot of mouse poop in that one and that one as well we'll blow that out [Music] before we get too crazy here freaking mice freaking mice right duff oh freaking cadillacs [Music] [Music] so [Music] from the machine shop guess what pulled that head off of that engine went to go uh steal an exhaust valve yep it broke so then i took the springs off all of them and the next one slid right out the valves in that one well the valve that i got out of that one actually looks pretty good better than the ones on that one got our gasket services all cleaned up put our head gasket in a can on those gaskets i know we got new gaskets but we know it needs a valve job anyway so no point in wasting those new old stock head gaskets and intake gaskets we'll just swam your back together i think i'm going to rob the valley pan off of that thing quick and get a push rod as opposed to straightening that one that we got there and then we'll be able to wham your back together i think we'll steal the distributor out of that one scenes how it's got the guts out of it see if we can get spark and then we gotta figure out a carburetor because the one that was on there she's chewy at best a little bit stuck so i guess we're gonna have to loosen that up see how it's that oddball bolt pattern and i don't have an adapter to go to anything like that well maybe i do but see if we can get that one loose so let's uh stick some heads on and get a push rod when you're all back together torque specs we don't need torque specs whoever sent uh all these shop towels and 10 pounds of milk bones much appreciated stuff appreciates it oh yeah and that's soft and chewy milk bones as well we're good with the fancy shop towels for a while aren't we duffers say thanks say thanks no not going to do it attaboy put this rocker shaft on and uh the top of the valve don't line up quite perfectly not even anywhere close to perfect with the rocker shaft seems like the intakes are okay but every one of the exhausts is off and i didn't mix these two rocker assemblies up maybe we'll snug it down see if it gets better i don't know somebody could have swapped it at one other point i guess yeah i don't know what you do they're like tight up against that stanch in there so you can't really cheat it over unless it had like a jog in the uh rocker arm hmm it's interesting maybe i'll grab that other side and stick on here see if that one lines up any better same thing on this one you think that that would wear valve guides or the top of the valve or bend the valve or wear silly on the i don't spring i'm gonna put these rocker shafts back the way that i found them because that didn't resolve the issue [Music] so now we should be able to crank this thing over at the starter and see if we got compression before we go any further because i don't have to take this thing back apart again like i had to do with the other engine not very good in that one but that was the one i would have guessed would have been about [Music] all kinds [Music] definitely got oil pressure so uh we know the oil pump's good we're gonna have to put a plug in that let's address that before we make another mess in the shop uh-oh son there we go crisis averted tech tip of the day steal the uh brass plugs out of your spare engine for the coolant drain plugs inside the block use those to plug well so i guess that's one thing i'll talk about so we can plug that off in this this oiling system that we have in these engines isn't a full pressure oiling system i don't believe well it's full pressure but not all of the oil goes through that filter so we can plug that off and we're still going to be getting oil everywhere else only some of the oil goes through that filter and that's what this line right here is for this would sit at the bottom of the filter so that oil just or that filter just pumps oil up there and then just gravity feeds back into the engine so we're not going to starve anything so don't worry about it that oil is pretty black continue with our compression check test thinger the thumb test [Music] everything's really good except for number two over there who would have felt sweet let's slam an intake on suppose we should find top dead center for number one intake's opening uh sure enough there she is right there so since we got that set at top dead center we can pull our distributor out pull that distributor out and then wherever that rotor is aiming when we pull that one out we just put our number one plug wire on there crap we're gonna have to find plug wires too and plugs because these ones didn't look good all right there's our gear that runs off the cam shaft that turns this thing around and there you can see the uh drive looks like a d on the bottom that runs the shaft so this thing will only drop in one way actually allegedly i suppose you could turn that shaft and it could drop in however so of course this distributor it's not stuck in the block i think it's stuck on that shaft at the bottom from all water in there imagine that so we're just gonna break it we're gonna try not to break it but we will break it there we go oh the drive shaft came with it hopefully that comes off there and these distributors are the same i'll set them side by side and check so it appears that everything is the same minus this one's got a little bit longer fill nozzle for oiling it and you can see why i'm swapping the base plate is there but like the points are gone the condenser is gone you know we needed the rotor the weights are pretty much seized on the bushings up top here for your uh centrifugal advance i mean we can make that work but it's just a better option so i think we just got to try to get that shaft slid out of there just seized on that d shape so i think we'll try to clean it up a little bit and we'll stick her in the vise and so we can't work it out of there or i guess worst case scenario we could try to pull that shaft out of that engine but that doesn't sound like any fun my luck i wouldn't get it in there and then we'd starve that engine of oil don't want that oh we got to steal the dipstick tube too because when they pulled the manifolds off they uh mangled that son of a biscuit great did we just have it out of that engine we did should come out of there pretty easy right all right well either way distributor time good news when i went to wipe all the grime off this uh shaft slid right out of there and it is that same d shape so should be good there we go slid right in clean up the contact on our rotor here somebody said you're supposed to use a pencil eraser i got no stinking pencils how do the points even look [Music] not good oh well the cap don't look too bad and i would bet that's the same cap as like a small block chevy the same vintage just clean up those contacts [Music] i think the vacuum advance is sitting over here oh well we can obviously adjust it so let's see if we can find some uh spark plugs or if i can clean these ones up go from there so i checked my stash i had some plugs that were pretty close but they weren't an exact match what i found on rockauto and since i live in podunk there's nowhere in town to buy anything and it's sunday so nothing's open in a 30 mile radius so napatad you escaped having to go up in the shop clean these up they don't look that bad they're kind of a mishmash of uh champion j eights and ac46s should be good enough for what we're gonna do here even gapped em that's right went all out three champions four ac's let that other engine have it ecs they're pretty rough shape though obviously okay so i think we just need to find some plug wires and a coil put the intake on figure out a carburetor you know just a couple of things but we're getting close however it is lunch time and stuff and i are going to go on an adventure quick drink some more jungle because i'm sick of this thing i don't know how many there's been like four days straight working on this thing i'm sick of it this is probably gonna be the longest video in uh youtube revival history you guys like long videos right the four people that are watching at this point comment down below so after a short hiatus we're back on the cataract here let's uh hook up the compression gauge to see we got pretty sure i know what the answer is on this first cylinder over here on the passenger side it's going to be a real little like zero little all right place your bats [Music] not bad it's actually 15 psi oh somebody's gonna yell at me for not having a carburetor throttle blade all the way open let's uh don't need to stick a screwdriver in there it just sticks [Music] 50 psi a little better [Music] 60 on that one she's going to need a set of rings to run again [Music] 55 pissies [Music] 30 not so bueno [Music] 40. see where this is going [Music] 45 well last but not least [Music] [Applause] we got a 55 i don't think it's gonna run on those numbers you know maybe if we got it spinning over fast enough and i really don't want to hook 24 volts up to that starter because if we ruin that starter we got nothing we don't know if the other starter is any good i really don't feel like we're going to start a report for you guys what's up try putting some oil in one of these cylinders see what we get a little over here so i don't get sprayed by oil off the exhaust so the cylinder was at 40 psi before see where it's at after we got much oil on it you're going to stand right there and get sprayed with oil aren't you you're a silly dog go lay down go over there thank you any bets people get 100 60 45 well you guys can see that but uh she's knocking on a hundred up there so suppose if we drizzle just a little bit of oil in each one of those cylinders and then try to start it i mean it's not going to alleviate our bad rings why is it smoking we don't even have an ignition source hooked up the other thing is when we do that it's probably going to follow the plugs out right away so i don't know how this is gonna work we'll give it a shot grab the fuel tank it's worse it happens waste a little bit of oil make a mess on my floor yeah that we're gonna need a marvel mystery oil sponsor let's move nancy's battery where it's not gonna get sprayed with oil look up our ignition see what happens with a little bit of oil like make this thing light off i hope so i still got spark oh yeah [Music] all right so we took a little hiatus we did some rambler things check that video if you haven't already i'm not giving up on this cadillac yet that thing is just so close i don't know what else i can do but just keep trying what we're doing so we're gonna squirt some oil in the cylinders i got some mystery fluid in here it's red so i'm thinking it's atf it might be uh marvel but i don't even know where this can came from i think it says made in america well sure enough made in usa murica so i decided to hang on to this thing it came in some dollar bin or something i bought but i'm gonna put that in the cylinders because figure that's gonna be way easier than that funnel that i spilled all over with and you have no idea how much food you're getting in there also on attendance today is the world's largest loudest largest i haven't seen him yet but he's the loudest or she whatever it identifies as is the loudest cricket in the tri-state area so give this thing an applause now back your regularly scheduled cataract stuff also the ramblers coming back so stay tuned for that wheelies pull these plugs out put some oil in we're going to do things all right let's get a little squirty squirt of some mystery food how much comes out of here five seems about like the right amount of clicks oops that one got six you just feel so antiquey using these things got our coil wire and our fuel pump sounds like we got fuel then we do all right let's do this we got spark [Applause] man it's close [Music] [Music] oh this thing is so close let's uh pull those plugs out try her again seems like it wants a lot of fuel big engine needs fuel boss is coming in to check up on us what you been doing cat around thirsty or did you show up to see if we can get this thing to run to watch it run you're pretty quiet this morning huh we're gonna get this to run our mystery oil is about empty he's got any recommendations that we should fill it up with again apparently duff doesn't have much faith because he uh started back out all right 764 times lucky charm right 763rd i think that's what they say lots of gas hey [Music] man we're closed up that smoke is telling me atf the smoke signals are saying atf how about this clear out fill this up all right this time this time's the ticket oh hmm [Music] um it's like once burns that oil on loses compression so that that was it was literally running and it loves fuel just pumping the snot out of it so let's do her again i guess just blowing oil all over everything jiminy would you shut up back there i have puddin's hatred for birds but it's for crickets get out of here birds how do you get rid of crickets lose the shop crickets are following let's not set that ratchet where it's gonna get full oil when she fires up this time cause she's gonna run deal indeed what's the definition of running i know when you look at facebook marketplace ads and they say good running their definition of good running and my definition of good running opposite ends of the spectrum all right let's do this plenty of fuel remember lots of fuel she likes fuel [Music] [Music] well not really sure what happened that time but it wasn't near as good as the time before i'm guessing those plugs are getting a little bit oily that could be a fire again see how these plugs look when we take them off they're not dry maybe it only needs four pumps let's clean these plugs all right maybe four squirts that was the key four it wasn't the key starting to give me wide block flashbacks all these flames you probably notice that i'm standing at a distance jiminy's still back there give me the encore okay let's do this hey [Music] yeah it still wasn't as close as what that whatever third time last time one time seems like it wants lots of fuel lots of gas shoot oh my gosh he's close i'm sure somebody's yelling at the camera right now somebody i'm sure half of you are yelling at the camera ether we're hooking up 24 volts or just rebuild it throw in the towel so comment down below what you're yelling at me what i'm doing wrong i want to hear this thing run and you can yell real loud i can't hear you but i'm sure your uh roommates enjoy it but if you comment down below i promise i'll read it once we'll spray this brake fluid on the spark plug every time this is why it's not running i can't imagine so when this thing's out we're quitting because i had this thing plumb full that's a lot of atf we can't afford that we're going to lose the shop an atf expensive it's that's like 20 30 bucks a gallon i think i got it figured out you pump the snot out of it hold it pump the snot out of it hold it when you hold it wide open you have timing you can't hold it for too long so then it runs out of gas or something that's my theory i'm sticking to it oh go out i'll get your heart racing i'm just gonna take a moment to uh collect my nerves in a 12-ounce can i know it's not new but i don't care about itself don't clean your spark plugs off on a wooden pallet directly below your exhaust manifold or where the port is or where the flames are shooting out of the engine i'm just at the water hoses right there on a positive note it was almost running close as we've had it running it was is definitely running also if you haven't reached out to uh coors molson and tell them they need to bring ham's special light back as i'm drinking collector's editions around here i can't afford to keep the shop much less to afford to drink collector beer or drink some other brand that's completely unaffordable so reach out to your congress congressmen and women and representatives and such and wilson quarters and tell them bring back the sandwiches morse game duff said so in germany nerves are better let's do this again there's a little oil left in that can so let's use it and not spray brake cleaner on our wood pallet [Music] up on the intake will be better maybe [Music] i probably need a fire extinguisher sponsor this is the one i can taste it me [Music] uh [Music] we're so close and like that time not so close oh now you show up where'd you get a cattle bur did you find any kitties any keys out there we need to train you to hunt crickets what do we need to do different i know you just want to go roll and poop i don't want you to go rolling poop i think it would matter if we swapped the four barrel on because i did find all my little brock carburetors it does seem like it wants more fuel my carburetor should be plenty good for what we're doing i guess what kind of carburetor well there was an easier way to put oil in this one without having to pull the stinky spark plugs up every single time they need like a spark plug with a lubricator in the middle you know it's got electrode on the end of that horse on the other end spot you put lube in the middle because yeah we try to fire it without any oil in there doesn't go that [Music] well the last thing i want to do is burn off that starter ain't worked out one of those in a few weeks here we go bigger carburetor try number one [Music] all right first try the oil with the edelbrock 1406 600 cfm electric jewel carburetor she doesn't have a nice handle on it like that gcd [Music] [Music] uh so as i suspected it definitely was not the carburetor but we had to exhaust all avenues and you just come to the realization she just needs a valve job and a new set of rings probably be just fine but i think i could chase my tail and do keep doing this over and over but it would just be for the video and we all know that that needs a valve job and rings that rings might get a little bit better running it for a while but i think we know that it would run but need some work so i think that's where we're leaving it off here i mean a learning experience adding oil to cylinders boost your compression maybe the y block would have ran if we had done that who knows i don't want to burn this starter up and uh we've got plenty of other stuff to work on here so we're just going to file this away as a good core that these little work make a great engine for a little hot rod it's looking like a you know model a roadster model a coupe something like that just a stabber in there i think this
