[Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] my wife and I started singing prairie farm in 2010 so we could help start filling the world with ecologically sensitive pasture based family farmers when you look around through here we've got our breeding herd there's a whole bunch of mama pigs and one daddy pig and right now in the hot part of the year in Missouri they live in the forest the reason for that is the pigs really have to have shade to be happy need some roots and some berries and some black raspberries and such and we also supplement their diet with hundred percent non GMO grains they're gonna spend their summer underneath maple trees and oak trees and elm trees after they have chow down on some of the understory and some of the acorns that are still on the ground from last fall we're gonna move them a little bit deeper into the woods where there's a big clearing and come fall when it starts to get cool and where they want to get out on the Prairie and the end of the sunshine again we'll move the pigs back into a meadow that's just past this forest and they'll spend part of their fall enjoying the sunshine right there that's singing Prairie farm we're gonna give you a lot to be excited about the first thing I'm excited about about the way we do things here just how much carbon we can draw down out of the atmosphere and stuff into the ground using large animals grazing in a certain way you're gonna get the pigs to eat down all of the grass that they can whether it's Buffalo or cows or sheep or pigs all those large animals can remove a lot of vegetation from the surface and convert it into body mass or meat which is what we all love to eat another thing that I'm really excited about is every time an animal eats green vegetation it increases its omega-3s and it's fat soluble vitamins such as AE D and K everybody loves omega-3s because they're an anti-inflammatory there's too much corn syrup and grain and corn in the world what we need is animals that can eat at least some of their diet in green vegetation and increase that omega-3 action the third really exciting thing about this kind of agriculturists how happy the animals are while they're living the pigs that live here live in a three acre parcel there's about 50 of them they'll spend about ten days to two weeks here previous to this when it was really hot also they were under those trees behind me now we have a mobile shade structure several hutches and lots and lots of movable feeders and the waterer the pigs will just run around in here they chase each other they play hide-and-go-seek they lounge when they want to lounge and then the night times and the evenings they go kind of carousing about getting themselves into trouble and chasing each other the fourth thing I'm excited to talk about is I want everybody to know that Rome sticks and singing prairie farm has gotten to a point where we're not able to grow all the pork that go into our snack sticks the sausage the bacon the bratwurst that we sell we've been lucky enough to find people like you who are excited about pasture-raised non GMO antibiotic pork we've started signing on other farmers who raise pigs and the strict standards that we ask for those standards are pasture centered life zero antibiotics at any time 100% non-gmo 100% free of animal by-products in their feed and 100% free of confinement crates we talked to them we go through a long process we sign them on it's like a big party now they're part of the club they get to contribute to the entire movement all the farmers that we work with they get an above market price for their pork and we offer them a guaranteed market if they have a month of slow sales as a farmers market you can always move everything our way and we'll help them out it's kind of like the Fairtrade equivalent of pork I grew up raising pigs with my dad he grew up raising pigs with his dad who grew up raising pigs with his dad now I am raising pigs with my kids and one of the things that makes my heart the happiest is when I walk through some of these fields and I see all this greenery I know we're gonna transform the bounty of the earth into green forage that then we can create the healthiest pork in the world with when we move the pigs in here they're gonna chow down on this whole field of sorghum Sudan grass and black eyed cow peas this is a mixture that's usually you for dairy cows but we use it to graze pigs on right now I'd like to direct you all to our website singing Prairie Farms dot-com you'll see a lot of the places that carry our products such as vital choice and serenity kids baby food you'll see a lot of other good stuff about us that you can read about and learn if you'd like to take that next step and learn more about the beautiful world of pasture raised non-gmo pork check us out at singing Prairie farms that's plural singing Prairie Farms calm [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music]
