Pick your dream Apple setup

if we're spoiled for anything these days it's Choice look it's a lot of computers and it's left me wondering if the average person were to come to this table and choose from any of these devices to build out their dream Apple ecosystem config what products would they choose what lines would they draw and what does that say about them as a person well we're gonna find out you have a lot of resistance I know because you're pushing really hard for this experiment I selected four participants Dennis from Channel super fun Nicole our editing coordinator Dan some technical guy and Anthony the only other Apple user I can trust here at the office I forgot I might fall I would never let you fall this is a MAC address video not a channel super fun video I'm like at the doctor's office again would they blindfold you do they not blindfold other people all right Anthony take the blindfold off okay here we go wow oh wow is the Apple Store look at it's the whole Apple lineup what do you think yeah yeah that's what it looks like so how many Apple products do you have zero oh okay do you like Apple products [Music] I like Google more okay this will be interesting I have about I would say 12 iMacs and probably about 10 MacBook Pros okay wow but that just sounds like hoarding this sounds like a collection what do you use I use none of them I like to fix them and then give them back to the community for people that need a computer very Noble do I have a limit of what I can buy or do I have I'll tell you I'll tell you the full price when you've chosen your things and you can decide whether that works for you or not okay if I go to choose all this Apple product yeah Pro display xdr you're going to take the pro display xdr look at how beautiful it is so beautiful editing it's amazing come with stand well that'll be added to the price wait if you're getting a studio display what computer are you going to plug it into doesn't come with a computer no that's a separate okay one the combo I want a combo you want the Mac Pro as well yes I want the combo okay well go get it and go put it on the table I like it back for the editing purpose definitely a Mac not a not a laptop so you go desktop I would definitely go desktop what are you gonna do on the computer well I do a lot of games design as well as music production the problem is I've been getting into 3D modeling a lot more recently and my current setup has a 3080 TI and I just bought a 13 900k these are all meaningless numbers to Apple users it's a mixed-use station right so you want a very good single core performance and I know the new M line really is quite good at that the thing is so this is an M1 the single core is better than an M2 but then you have to get an you have to get a Mac Mini for that right now what is the difference between the studio and the the mini okay so besides the CPU GPU combo um flat flatness it's it's thinner it's here no no Let's do let's do the M2 I can use the studio display with the um yeah you can definitely do that it supports 6K it's too many K's what keyboard do you want oh okay so I actually do have feelings about this which is nice I used to edit on a Mac Pro the gold cheese grater yeah yeah I started on Mac yeah I missed the trackpad oh grab the trackpad I'm uh yeah I don't know how I feel about that admitting it but and then what keyboard does it have to be an Apple keyboard no I mean you can get any keyboard we have a video about that I didn't know this was a thing this is cool all right there we are I've always wanted to try like a Mac desktop I thought about getting a Mac Mini just because they're cheap yeah but uh yeah I never picked one up and you know the Mac Studio was pretty tempting at the time but uh I think I would prefer a portable Mac no love for the iMac no love for the well I mean I've always wondered what people see in IMAX and I wanted to like sit down and try it for a while but the color as far as desktops go I like to build my own with a laptop you're not going to build your own right so what laptop would you choose you could just get a simple MacBook Air MacBook what about the M2 you like the M2 the new Macbook airs are nice I've thought about trying those out but I think they're a little bit too light oh these are too light when I'm sitting at home watching TV yeah I like to have it in my lap reclining in the chair and they're not balanced for that oh really yeah so like they tend to go this way oh the 13 inch or sorry it's really nice the the amount of like screen real estate you get for the small package is pretty good but I think that I would replace my 2011 15 inch with a 16 inch now the way the screen looks it basically feels like carrying a desktop monitor it's nice I like options so oh you like a bit flexibility yes so a Mac might be too restrictive too yeah okay so there's a lot of MacBooks okay we've got a 16 inch MacBook Pro with an M2 Max or M2 Pro processor now what MacBook kind of appeals to you I like the 14 inch MacBook Pro MacBook Pro yeah so I'm a fan of that this will be your choice will this have to be my primary workstation though this is your Apple lifestyle so like this will be your computer you can use that as your primary computer for sure I would go with the max then look at all these different screen sizes if you're making a website you dividing line it's two very distinct ways of using a computer so you can have the finger directly manipulating the screen or I guess in the case of laptop the finger manipulating a pointer it's two very distinct ways of using this portable device and yet at 13 inches and 12 and a half inches they kind of overlap a little bit which has been very confusing to people who want to see Mac OS on the iPad or a touch screen on a MacBook this is the reason why I don't know but for me I think even in this sort of overlap I'd probably still go for the MacBook okay so you've been on a Mac address video before and it was about the iPad and it was about specifically this iPad and you aren't iPad owner yeah but let's say it broke or you don't have it anymore or something like that and you were to go out and choose an iPad now from the Apple store which iPad would you choose from the whole lineup I have been considering the new iPad Pro really yes I think I still would stick with the 11 inch okay but you don't want a laptop at all no so my current laptop I'm more concerned about breaking the floor if I drop it there's just no anxiety anymore when I'm carrying it around because like if I bang it on something or if I drop it these ones are unfixable they're not upgradable tablets though tablets I know that you've done some videos about the pencil compatibility and the pencil one with the iPad something so okay so give me the best art tablet I actually you know I was looking at the meaning the mini uses the second gen pencil these use the second gen pencil as well yeah this has an M1 processor these now have M2 it's a mini gun in it a15 I love the form factor of the minis the only thing that pissed me off about these is the No expandability Option like SD card I mean that's a major thing but it's not an option to any of them oh crap I don't know but you're like going between two extremes of like a tiny iPad and a huge yeah but I like the form factor of that because it's like then what do you like about this because it's good or more more gooderer well at least they have the the edges aren't as broken I don't know it's just so giant um does it support like pressure what does natively that's great uh latency feels pretty good it's wireless right now too that's great we proved it works I'll take the big iPad for me I would more than likely go really for the uh the big chunk your extra money I pay the extra money uh first of all you're getting a better display it is a great screen yeah it is in my opinion a better fit for the magic keyboard so if I were to use this as a like very portable laptop kind of thing it's much more suitable for that but you have the laptop already yeah but it's not supportable okay all right so I got multiple classes of device I have my desktop I have my laptop and then I have this which is like I grab this on the plane or whatever on my laptop okay I see that's interesting seeing the whole phone line up here there are a lot of phones but they don't look that different in size when you put them next to each other oh wait no wait ah yeah now I see it okay those are some steps still would go for the small phone that's for sure iPhone I do need a new iPhone because my phone pixel 6 Pro is kind of broken right so these this is the iPhone 14 these are 14 14 what's the newest now 14 14 plus so that's a regular price phone then we got the pro and pro Max Pro Max I always go for the best now I know you have an iPhone Mini you have a 13 mini specifically right which is still available would you still get a 13 mini now or would you upgrade to a 14 would you go for the 14. if I were to buy one right now I think I would still go with the money really yes I think it's purely for the size it's a nice size it's such a nice and it's a good deal too it is especially if you already have an iPad yeah there's a Macbook what are you watching on your phone out of all the iPhone Mini right oh yeah absolutely look at look at how well that fits in my hand oh that's an sc this is even smaller oh really this is this feels like a toy what do you pick it's about you I picked a big one the cameras on this thing are really good yeah a lot of the time I actually do find myself needing good cameras for my line of work and also it really helps to have a really good telephoto to kind of see things that are like either really small or far away so yeah I mean I'm not super stoked on the the dynamic Island no that's cool I mean it's it's not bad it's probably the best way they could have handled a giant pill yeah pill I think it's clever yeah it's clever uh but it's gonna mean like your selfie cam is going to have fingerprints all over it all the time so huh no come you don't want any iPhone no look at this though does it have an unlocked bootloader well then I don't get um you don't get a watch either I need an Apple Watch actually I had um I tried one on the Google one Google The Google pixel watch yeah the battery is horrible so I would prefer something kind of well if you want so okay this has the most battery life this is very like tough looking yeah it's the Apple watch Ultra oh let's go I want the toughest you're gonna get the toughest watch now I believe you already have an Apple Watch series seven oh yes yes the Starlight Starlight Series so would you would you get a would you just get a series eight then if you didn't have an Apple Watch I would get the series eight yes and you still stick with a small one not the bigger one I would stick with the smaller one the Ultras I mean you already you already have a bit of a perfect setup anyway we're just kind of reinforcing it do you have an Apple Watch I've had one would you go back and if you were which one would you pick the ultra is nice I mean it has that great big screen that I like it's a nice screen but nice flat screen it is it is heavy like it's a little bit more than I think everyone else notices it like I mean I use my Watch for notifications and stuff like that so probably what I would do because series eight yeah all right there you go pop it on what's interesting about Apple's accessories now is that they've kind of grown into their whole thing and become an array of multi hundred dollar devices themselves that are still dependent on those things I mean these are like almost 500 would you like the Apple TV which is also very expensive for sit-top box and then there's the 20 polishing cloth which is the best value of them all one of the interesting things is you actually chose the big iPad and the big iPad sits in this really weird place between a laptop and a tablet because it can sort of do both it's just a second screen really it's its own thing this is you're getting kind of killing me here would you get this to kind of laptopify your iPad feel free to bring the iPad and try it on the magnets are nice and strong that's really that feels nice and smooth it pairs it's it runs off the iPad cool pairs automatically I mean it would actually probably work really well as a stand on the desk and it has a portable thing and then I wouldn't get the camera bumps all screwed up so I'll take that too okay well we're here Apple TV no any airpods no I don't like wireless earbuds if you had chosen an iPad you could have got a magic keyboard or a pencil but you didn't want that or would you have an Apple TV yes I have Apple TV at home actually you do have one oh okay zero I I always like the newest stuff so if it's not new I don't want it okay but if we had the new homepod would you choose it I would I would okay we'll Photoshop it in so take that photoshop over here I guess if I have an iPhone those are pro those are airpods process noise canceling that's be Pro for me oh I like this too no you have to choose one airpod what yeah oh funny well on this one whoa okay and then because I like this like the look laughs now you chose the 11 inch iPad yes would you get a magic keyboard not if I already have a Macbook oh okay what about a pencil I would get the pencil okay grab the pencil now Apple TV no I am not so much into the Apple really any airpods oh airpods Pro for sure okay grab the airpods oh I have to have the microfiber cloth come on like who could who could result adding that to the price by the way Apple TV yeah okay yeah and then I think Apple TV are you gonna get a magic keyboard then for your big eyes yeah and a pencil um now see I want the pencil but I don't know that I would use it very much the thing is I don't like write a whole lot like what about draw drawing I like to scribble from time to time but it's nothing major so like video editing on DaVinci on an iPad I mean that's not a thing that I do and then oh any airpods uh probably the airpods pros although I've always wondered what those are like well uh they're a bit heavy yeah uh yeah they're they're a little heavy [Music] okay Dennis so this is your setup these are pretty Maxi choices you've made but it's interesting no iPad but the biggest fattest computer uh you want to guess the grand total price for all this oh the total oh 95 000 I'm sorry 95 000. 95 000 or 9 500. I have a thousand wow this grand total of everything here is twenty three thousand dollars okay so it's not that bad then would you pay twenty three thousand dollars for this if it's my own money yeah I will get rid of Apple TV [Music] there's like 150 dollars I would get I'll get around to watch this is also just like only like eleven hundred dollars still money you still want a Mac Pro or would you be fine with maybe like a Mac Studio because this is like this is almost fourteen thousand dollars you get a Mac Studio for like can they do a very good on Premiere Premiere is no good on anything so there's no point on me getting this no you probably I in my experience you'd probably be better off with the Mac Studio I probably should watch more of my address videos okay let's go to my next studio will you take the watch and Apple TV back yeah I'll take it back okay okay let's do that does this look beautiful to you is this still a beautiful computer it's still beautiful okay look how much less space it takes yeah actually okay so the new Total is 13 900. 13 900. it's a lot less it's almost terrible I think it's doable so all this stuff you've selected you want to take a guess at how much it'll cost you so I'm gonna say eighteen thousand that's it oh you are over budget or you're I guess you guessed too much it's oh okay uh 96 30. 96 30 U.S 9630 so my whole threadripper system cost me just over ten thousand so this replaces this will be as quite as fast but yeah the thread bripper is not fast either so you would not change anything about the setup knowing the price uh no okay yeah wow well there you go this is your ultimate next setup awesome congrats thank you how much do you think this all costs oh okay I'm gonna ballpark 4 700. oh you were so close you're the closest anyone's been 43.80 oh hey okay so knowing now the price that this is this is what all this costs what do you think about that I think outright purchasing it as a whole isn't something I would think to do ever but otherwise I feel like this is like a very reasonable day-to-day Works day to day yes yeah if I'm not doing anything intensive because if you didn't have your home PC and you use that it makes it more reasonable too right it does yeah if it's like I completely got rid of my PC if I didn't have any of the electronics that I currently have and I'm just stuck choosing from this pool this is it 65 30. okay so thousand five hundred thirty I went over so I failed Price is Right but yeah I mean that's that's not too bad considering most of this stuff at least for a generation or two is going to hold its value probably what happens what happens to most people I know who get into the Apple ecosystem is they buy one thing they're like oh this works really well with this other thing I'll get that other thing oh that other thing and it just keeps going like that and then you start rolling into upgrading basically each of your devices year over year okay now it's my turn okay no Mac Pro no Pro display xdr I really love the iMac so much and I would love to have this in my home but I'm just not sure about the M1 there's something so well-rounded about just the base 14 inch MacBook Pro with an M2 Pro I was surprised at how much more powerful it is than a than a load it out M2 MacBook Air and so it's got such a good screen and you could just set it on the desk with a monitor do I go for beauty or do I go for brains Beauty brains you know what's crazy is that a studio display costs more than an iMac so we could still get the eye back I need to I need to I regret my decision I'm gonna yeah I'm gonna I get a green iMac I'm just gonna I'm just gonna do what I know is right for me and you know within my limitations and if the computer becomes too slow in two or three years instead of five so be it okay with the phone super easy I'm a small phone person get this while you can I think I'd get a series eight big that's easy I've really come to appreciate how much people like the apple pencil and I did choose the cheap iPad which would mean I'd have to use the first generation pencil Which is less money than the second generation but what I actually like use the apple pencil in real life when I take notes I need to take notes physically in a notepad so I don't think I need an apple pencil but I'm surprised at how much I like the Apple TV and the other interesting thing is I like how the third gener pods don't have silicon tips but the new airpods Pro do sound really good I don't use headphones that often I think I think I'll get these they're gins 2700. uh take another game what 3100 35 oh what it's 3 500 dollars that's more than I was expecting I mean I would have won If This Were The Price is Right let's get to know it's my left for behind
