hey what's up YouTube my name is Fran Smith and I'm photographer based in Lagos Nigeria and today I'm gonna show you how I do jumper in my image now dodging burn basically is highlighting a contouring makeup all you're doing is you're highlighting the highlighted parts already I have written in your shadows just to make your image stand out and to bring out the person's features on the president's face or maybe the person's outfit just make pressing or whatever you're dodging and burning look better so when you dodge your dodge your highlights and when you burn you burn your shadows how I dodge is I'm burnin is I use the child shown always so I'm going to show you that's not talked too much and just jump into this I'll create a new layer here right here above my frequency separation layer then I'll come to edit fill and I'll change my content to 50% leave my blending or normal opacity 100 I'll click OK then I'll come here change my blend mode to soft light and duplicate this layer name this first one touch then I'll name this one burn and I'll put both in a group and name the group dodge and burn now it's good when you have an action that does all this for you the actions online you can download them you can learn how to create your actions or that hard so you do not have to do this for every picture imagine if you have to edit ten pictures I have to do this it's just going to be too hectic so now moving into dodging burn I'm going to pick my dodge tool right here and my range is usually mid-tones I set my exposure three check protect owns and this is me working non-destructively a lot of people do not like this technique for the jumper but this is the one I use actually like it and I'm going to jump in and dodge like I said dodging is for the highlights and as you can see the highlights with life falls on the face right here at top of the head cheeps from doing that chain your collarbone and all these places that I highlighted then burning is for the shadows so burn is like contouring you check the side of the face probably just Olivia top of the head and so what I please you sometimes you zoom in number on your details but when I'm doing the full phase actually you know like see the full image while that doesn't burn so let's get into it I'm going to start at the number and on that trick why not tip-time wouldn't teach you guys is sometimes turn off your frequency separation layer so you can actually see how the original image looks it's going to help you jumper it a lot more better oh yeah so I'm going to start touching on burning my image as you can see using a very small brush making sure that I'm getting where I want exactly for the sake of this tutorial I'm just going to be pretty fast so I do not wish to do this time now when I click my frequent separation when I bring it back and I toggle my dodge and burn and you guys see that it's really nice to me okay so I'm going to underneath the change right here but the nose when it did before head yeah okay looking good okay and collarbone right here but we need to increase and reduce your approach depending on where you're dodging and burning so you do not start dodging your shadows or so you do not stop burning your highlights like I said you dodge your highlights and you burn your shadows okay this image I'm actually doing this in a hurry please take your time there's no harder in retouching you just have to be very careful with your retouching so that you do not overdo it or you don't want to do it sometimes let me see how that looks okay so I like that and I'm just going to jump into the burn without wasting too much time I expose eyes on three two and yeah I'll probably just close my friend solution so I can see [Music] yeah that's good [Music] but no Bernardino's I mean then some little details on the face are probably going and due to all this a lot more to making me stand out like we're not trying to change how she looks like this giant and hands have features that make her look better like this again the brain or collarbone back to this one for the hand and maybe the Big West Bank going but just with you [Music] okay so let's see how that looks now so this is the before and this is after as you guys can see we haven't done a lot just a little here and there and the image already looked really good now I'm still going to zoom in you know go with my dodge tool you want to change this to my Dodge tool yeah and probably set my exposure to ten this time because I want to work with her lips I want her lips - I want the highlights on my lips to actually pop a little more and yeah so basically this is how I dodge number and I would advise you take your time you know learn this technique and you know become become a lot better at it so yeah take your time learn this combat it I hope this helps somebody out there just keep retouching keep trying retouch every day if you can and keep doing your thing and you obviously get better so yeah guys this is the final image this is before and this is the after you guys can see how much the Dodge and burn did before and after anyways thank you for watching the video and staying to the end please subscribe like and share thank you very much and I'll see you guys later peace you [Music]
