well hello folks uh I generally like to keep my videos somewhat uplifting but unfortunately life is not always kind and I felt that I had to say something before continuing with this week's video as many of you have already heard uh my friend and colleague Alan Wallace recently passed away like you guys I am absolutely dumbfounded and deeply shocked by Alan's sudden and untimely death especially for someone so young now I wasn't a close friend of Allens but I did spend a few weeks with him in 2022 on a trip to Antarctica along with James popis Nigel Danson and of course a ship full of guests uh Allan and I hit it off immediately probably because we both like to goof around so much and I suspect from many of the tributes that I've seen on social media Allan was just a funloving guy to all that he met now even though I generally don't have a lot of interest in astrophotography it was really evident that Alan did uh I greatly admired his passion and work ethic towards photographing the night sky and also his interest in the stars and planets Beyond um now Allan was supposed to meet up with uh myself and Nigel and James and so on on this more recent trip to Antarctica but had to cancel at the last minute due to some complications with surgery now I don't know how Alan died and I don't want to speculate so please don't ask me if if I do hear of any memorial service or or other news I'll be sure to let uh people know through social media lastly uh I just want to acknowledge to friends and family of Allens that my thoughts are with them uh throughout this really difficult time thanks guys well hello everybody Welcome to another Vlog uh not starting off very well here today so Paul and I don't seem to have very much luck with vehicles uh we've left Henry and Ian and we've come over to the is of Sky uh we stopped off got a sandwich couple of coffees filled up with gas and uh on the way to ELO we stopped off just to check an area out and the van wouldn't start and I think the starter motor is gone now luckily Paul was able to get it going so we kind of decided Well are we going to keep going to ELO or head on back we decided to go to ELO and uh luckily we can start it as long as we're on a hill so ELO for those of you that have been here know that there's lots of hills here so we've locked out there but it's a matter of finding a a parking spot with a hill in front of us so we can get going so that was an adventure with Paul don't blame me happened to you last time yeah precisely uh those of you that follow my channel on a regular basis will remember that uh I went to pick up pole at Seattle airport and my starter motor went uh right outside the airport so I had to get towed back but luckily this van is standard so um stick shift so PA can start it on a hill anyway we're just having a cup of tea and um it's looking quite good the conditions might be really good here so we're just going to wait it out a bit and then uh we'll make our way down to the to the beach and see what we can [Music] find I tell you what it's uh it's a bit chilly this afternoon uh if this we didn't have this Breeze probably all great uh so those of you that are familiar with this area this is Alo on the is of sky and uh very popular area for photography I want to see if I can uh get my own take on this I have seen some images from here and I've been here before uh one of the most infamous uh images being the one by Joe Cornish with the Round Rock uh but I remember last time I was here I wanted to get a photograph of this Cliff here but I think it was quite clear so there wasn't a lot of cloud in the sky uh the peak in the background is getting quite a bit of light so I think I'm going to be able to get something in the foreground here I love these these rocks in the foreground got the little uh the The Boulders set against this really nice slabber rock here and then of course we have the the taffany like rock that we get at home so I think uh I think this might work out really well uh hopefully we'll get a bit more light in the background you can see pole in the background there let's see what we can do with this uh composition I think it might turn out really well okay it looks like I'm going to be delayed for a little bit you can see some nasty weather coming through the idea is to have this there's a peak kind of a pointy Peak back here and have it framed by this overhang but of course you can't see the pointy Peak right now and I think we're going to get a deluge of uh either rain or snow in a minute so uh this is probably not a bad place to hang out underneath this uh this overhang the weather system coming through okay I definitely made the right call there I saw a Paul rushing underneath this overhang here it's uh do you think it's rain or oh yeah it's [Music] [Applause] sleep [Music] wow it's been an interesting day uh I did go and explore some other areas I ended up taking a photograph of that round Boulder that everybody photographs Joe's Rock Joe cornish's Rock uh it's been interesting cuz the weather just keeps moving through and then it'll clear up again which is really great for landscape photography but I decided to come back here uh the light is quite nice right now so I'm concentrating on this is the foreground and those beautiful cliffs in the background with that pointy Peak kind of framed somewhat by the uh the overhanging rock here really really quite [Music] [Music] lovely [Music] [Music] [Music] well good morning everybody sorry if I look a bit rough this morning camp out in Paul's vanan last night I I slept pretty good get all things considered uh I wasn't going to Vlog this morning but uh just going to come down here and take some photographs enjoy the moment uh but such a beautiful morning down here I thought I'd just show you this scene of the coolins with a bit of morning Cloud uh I think what I'm going to do this morning is surprise surprise take a Pano there's some uh Prett great rocks over here with um some nice texture on them so I've got those kind of onto one side taken a long Pano I have got down quite low because there's a a cliff in the background that kind of merges with that and I don't don't want to interfere too much so I've got down low so we just have the cliff and then the mountains in the background with the uh bit of color I think it'll work out okay I'm I'm uh I'm exposing for the sky so uh it is a bit underexposed also I've decided to to use some uh case ND filters um I've tried some at slower shutter speeds and faster shutter speeds going to try some with really long shutter speeds I've never really tried anything like that I don't know if it'll work I know the clouds will be moving as well the O as well as the ocean so not sure if that's going to work out very well but I'll give it a [Music] go [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] well good afternoon everybody still in El go here this is our second evening and our final evening uh the light is very similar to the other day in that it's tempting us we have some really great clouds we have a bit of sun but the clouds over the mountains uh I'm not sure if we're going to get any color or not because if I look out over this way there's quite a bit of cloud cover so we'll have to see going to get any great light uh but in the meantime uh this the Coolin are are really beautiful um but I am having trouble in that it seems to be the only thing to photograph in that you know it's it's kind of a backdrop and we always looking for a foreground so I'm going to try and look for something other than just the mountains now I remember last time I was here it was in the spring and there was a lot of sea Thrift of course the sea Thrift isn't flowering right now but uh I think I'm going to start looking at some rock patterns over to my uh right here cuz that looks quite beautiful and uh I don't know just come up with something just a little bit different and if the light does hit these mountains or the clouds then I'll try and find a composition looking that [Music] way [Music] [Laughter] [Music] once again folks thank you ever so much for watching this week's video I really appreciate it uh if you'd like to support my channel in other ways why not head on over to my patreon page where you can get a free week's access uh where you can go and check out some extra content so go check that out I'll leave a link down below till next time [Music] bye-bye uh James popis and Alan Wallace mads was supposed to uh kind of head out with us as well but unfortunately uh he caught Co at the last minute and couldn't join us so uh we're really quite upset about that but we have 35 guest so uh it get a that's Alan and there's Nigel right [Music] there
