This might sound strange, but this song has a melody that's so perfect and so natural I can't help but imagine that Peter drew it out of the earth itself. It's like it had existed for all of time. Absolutely legendary song.
I love the skipped beat, makes the song sound faster, like an exciting rush to play it.
The song is actually about his departure from Genesis ("my heart going boom boom boom" when he is about to announce it to the other guys)
I stood on the actual (Little) Solsbury Hill with Peter Gabriel many years ago. It was part the protests against the Batheastern Bypass in the U.K. My family lived near the base of the hill at the time, and the road was being built right next to my house. Peter Gabriel was a big supporter of the cause.
If you've never heard this song, or Peter Gabriel, what did you think? As an old timer, I knew every note and word and yet the song is still perplexing and enchanting.
Powerful stuff, thank you. Great childhood memories with this one
I'm 27, this song is a part of my childhood and one of my all time favourites. It makes me feel homesick for England.
My dad used to blast this song to wake me up in the morning for school.
Gabriel > Collins
This is a great song. I've never heard this version of it before.
