so when it comes to color grading skin tones is something that you should never overlook you could have the best color grading in the entire world but if your skin tones are off and look unnatural then that could potentially ruin your entire shot so that is why in today's video i want to share with you guys a quick and very simple way for you guys to get great skin tones with lumetri color inside premiere pro but before i start i do want to thank our sponsor for today and that is storyblocks now you guys have probably heard of storyblocks from so many other creators out there already and that's because it's actually a very valuable resource storyblocks is a amazing platform for high quality stock footage motion graphics after effects templates youtube intros or outros sound effects whatever you name it and what's really incredible about storyblocks is that you can download a unlimited amount when you sign up for a unlimited plan there are so many other websites out there that try to charge you a per download basis but not with storyblocks you can literally download as much as you want so go ahead and check out storyblocks i'll leave a link down below in the description so now jumping inside premiere pro i have two clips that i'm gonna be correcting for you guys today this first clip is just a shot of my friend nolan shot on the blackmagic pocket cinema camera 4k and i actually had to purposely shift the skin tones a little bit and mess it up make it super yellow and looks like he's sick almost the skin tone straight out of the camera from the black magic is actually pretty decent so that's why i actually um just messed it up on purpose and the second clip that i have over here is a little kickboxing clip that i found from storyblocks and i noticed that the skin tones was really red and i'm not sure if that's the lighting or maybe that's because they're performing right now they're sweating blood's flowing through the veins that might be why they're red but we can easily correct that with lumetri color so let's go ahead and first start off with the clip of my friend nolan one important thing that i like to have open is this vector scope over here so if you go ahead and just select a lumetri scope this will pop up and if it doesn't go ahead and right click and select this right over here vectorscope and basically this will give you a little bit more accurate readout of your skin tones so no matter what skin tone you are if you're asian black hispanic or white your skin tones should always align somewhere around this line right here in between yellow and red so with that in mind let's go ahead and move into hsl secondary and right over here and now let's select this drop tool and basically this drop tool is basically going to isolate just that one color so i must select his face and i'm pretty sure this is going to isolate that yellow and now i can actually move these parameters around to kind of highlight what exactly i want to affect so let's i'm just going to move this around until i'm happy [Music] all right that's pretty good that's kind of covering all that horrible yellow then i'm going to go ahead and de-noise and blur to kind of help blend it in a little nicer and you can also select on this little box over here and it will show you only what you are highlighting notice in the vector scopes right over here how it's leaning a lot more towards the yellow and what i'm going to tend to do is kind of bring it back up to this line and maybe into the red a little bit and then kind of shift it back into the blues in terms of highlights so let's go ahead and use these three wheel correction and i'll start with highlights first i'm going to uncheck this so i can actually see it i could read out of what i'm grading i'm going to move this kind of more to the blue because i know it was kind of daylight that day and already it's making a huge difference maybe i'll add a slight slightly to the midtones just a little bit of red a little bit of red now let's go check skin tones so around the bat it's already aligned in the middle and it is protruding a little bit more to the blue but that's because of the daylight on his skin already it's made a huge difference let's go ahead and i'll show you guys the before and after all right so now let's move on to our second clip so just like before i'm gonna go inside my hsl secondary and select that little drop icon and just select on his face right over here right around his red and obviously it's going to be highlighting his red as i can see in these parameters right over here i'm going to smooth these around until i'm happy with it that's looking pretty good right there then i'm going to just denoise and blur it just to kind of help blend it in a little nicer and then for this case i'm actually just going to use this correction wheel right over here and i'm going to shift it a little bit more to the yellow and green [Music] let's go ahead and check this little box icon let me try to put it on the line right over here [Music] then i'm going to go ahead and desaturate a little bit it's looking a little too green i'm gonna actually raise it back up a little bit [Music] all right so there you go here's a quick before and after [Music] so as you can see this is a super simple but also very powerful tool inside lumetri color that i think a lot of people kind of overlook a lot of people try to add on this crazy color grading onto their footage but they always forget about skin tones skin tones is the most important part about a color grade in my opinion especially if you have human subjects inside your shot you could have the best color grading in the entire world but if your skin tones are off and look unnatural then at the end of the day that's definitely going to ruin your shot and your audience is definitely going to notice that i don't know what it is about us humans but we could look at mountains and skies and if the colors are looking crazy and unnatural we're okay of that you know but as soon as we see some skin tones and if it doesn't look natural then that's something that we definitely really notice and i really hope this video was able to help you guys out and up your skin grading game skin grading is that even a word i mean yeah that works right and keep in mind when you are doing a skin grade it's more than often very subtle you don't need to really add that much a color into it it's very subtle the idea is just to make it look like you almost didn't even color grade it and make it very subtle you know don't overdo it don't add a bunch of saturation don't over sharpen it don't over contrast it just keep it light and subtle and keep it natural if you guys have any questions any questions at all feel free to leave a comment down below i'll be more than happy to help you guys out if you guys did enjoy this video please consider subscribing to the channel that would totally mean a lot and would really help out with the channel come find me on instagram if you guys want to check out some of my photography and with that being said thank you so much for
