there were many prophecies foretold in the percy jackson series but there was one prophecy called the great prophecy the prophecy that the first series is based on it came up many times in the first five books and in this video i'm going to break this prophecy down explain its history and explain its ultimate outcome now this video will be focusing on the first five books i'm saving the prophecy of seven from the heroes of olympus for another video also there will be spoilers for the first series meaning the first five books so you've been warned now let's get this video started to get the full story of the great prophecy we must first look at the ancient history of the gods this starts with the big three zeus poseidon and hades they were the three sons of kronos and ria after defeating their father and sending them down to the pits of tartarus they divided the universe between themselves zeus received the sky and authority over mount olympus poseidon received the sea and hades received the underworld and with the world in their command they were dubbed the big three the most powerful of the gods over the years the three brothers had relations with many mortals and this led to many demigod children meaning their kids who were half god half human fast forwarding many years to world war ii zeus and poseidon's demigod children fought together against haiti's demigod children haiti's children being on the side of the nazis ultimately zeus and poseidon's children prevailed and not long after that the three brothers were forced to stop fighting and come together this was because of the oracle of delphi who prophesied that a half-blood of one of the big three brothers would either cause the downfall or salvation of olympus when they turned 16 and this right here is the great prophecy there is much more to it though and in a minute i'll break down each line but first we must continue the story and the history of the prophecy coming together the brothers realized that this was a risk they could not take so they each swore an oath to no longer sire any more demigod children meaning they would no longer have relations with mortals however hades already had two demigod children named nico and bianca d'angelo and zeus ordered him to bring his children to camp half blood for proper training hades disobeyed his brother's orders however as he feared his children would either be turned against him or killed angry with hades for disobeying him zeus decided to take matters into his own hands while hades was in a hotel with his two demigod children and her mother his beloved maria deangelo zeus struck the hotel hades only had time to erect a wall of black energy around the children and the blast killed their mother as hades held the broken form of maria d'angelo he yelled to the sky telling his brother that he would crush him for this the oracle of delphi then appeared the very being that made the great prophecy which the hades led to his beloved maria's death hades threatened to destroy the oracle but she told him that he couldn't as the power of delphi protected her and she then told hades that she had warned him to hide his children sooner this made hades furious and he said that though he couldn't kill her he could still curse her he said that as long as his children remain outcasts and he is forced to labor under the great prophecy the spirit of the oracle would never pass on to another host even after the girl's death the spirit would not move on and she would continue to speak prophecies until her body withered away it was a horrible fate and one that the girl did not deserve but this was the price she had to pay for foretelling the great prophecy to protect his children nico and bianca hades washed their memories clean and placed them in the lotus hotel the place where time never passes and nobody wants to leave this meant that niko and bianca stayed the same age so they never turned 16 which was of course the age that one of the big three's children would cause the downfall or salvation of olympus years later it became clear that zeus himself had broken the oath of not having demigod children and he had a daughter named thalia grace who like nico and bianca now had the potential to be the one the prophecy was about to seek revenge for killing his beloved maria d'angelo hades went after zeus's daughter thalia he sent the most terrifying monsters of the underworld to destroy her thalia along with the people she was traveling with were on the run and they were about to reach camp halfblood where they'd be safe but it soon became clear that they were not going to be able to outrun the monsters without a little help knowing this thalia decided to give her life to save her friends and she alone fought the armies that hades had sent her father zeus took pity on her and to prevent her soul from going to hades zeus transformed thalia into a pine tree where she would spend the next few years so now there were three people that the prophecy could be about nico bianca and thalia but all three are currently frozen in some way meaning they could not reach the age of 16 when the prophecy would go into effect and now this brings us to the fourth child that the prophecy could be about percy jackson like his brother zeus poseidon had broken the oath of not having demigod children as well and when percy made it to camp half-blood and poseidon claimed his son everybody thought that percy was the one the prophecy was about however not long after that thalia nico and bianco all came out of being frozen in time thalius 3 was healed by the golden fleece meaning she was a girl again and could age and nico and bianca were taken out of the lotus hotel meaning they could now age as well shortly after leaving the lotus hotel however bianca joined the hunters of artemis and serving the goddess artemis she became immortal meaning she could no longer age and therefore she could not turn 16. so by joining the hunters she removed herself from the great prophecy then thalia did the same thing and joining the hunters of artemis she too could not age meaning for now she did not reach the age of 16. so now it's just down to percy and nico and seeing as percy would turn 16 first he was the one the prophecy finally landed on the gods tried so hard to ensure this prophecy would not happen as they were so scared that it would end olympus but ultimately even though they were all powerful gods it ended up being out of their hands now let's break down the actual prophecy a half blood of the eldest gods shall reach 16 against all odds and see the world in endless sleep the hero soul curse blade shall reap a single choice shall end his days olympus to preserve or raise okay so i'm going to go through this line by line and i'll break down and explain what each line of the prophecy means a half-blood of the eldest gods this means a half-blood who was born from the big three the three eldest and most powerful gods zeus poseidon and hades that part is sort of obvious moving on to the next line shall reach 16 against all lots this means that the half-blood the prophecy is about faces many dangers and near-death experiences which we of course see percy deal with on a regular basis throughout the first five books he faced so many monsters he faced luke many times he was much more skilled than him at combat he faced a bunch of titans including kronos himself and he even faced and fought a few gods like ares and he faced much more that's barely scratching the surface he's been through hell and back literally and was lucky to make it to 16 which is why the prophecy says he reached 16 against all odds moving on to the next line and see the world in endless sleep this refers to the spell that morpheus the god of sleep cast over manhattan causing all mortals in or coming to the city to fall asleep during the battle of manhattan which was of course the final battle and the final standoff of percy versus kronos the leader of the titans and now the next line the hero soul cursed blade shall reap now this is the most complicated part of the prophecy this takes us to lucas stellen's early life where he met a demigod named hal hal gave luke a celestial knife which he was told would always protect the person wielding it luke then gave it to a seven-year-old annabeth chase the night they met and became friends years later luke turned on camp half blood and all of his friends and he joined kronos kronos eventually took over luke's body and luke was no longer in control going back to this line of the prophecy the hero soul curse blade shall reap for a long time percy thought that this blade referred to his weapon riptide and that the hero's soul was his soul meaning he thought he would lose his life but during the final battle he was told by rachel dare the soon to be oracle that he was not the hero when it came time for his final showdown against kronos who was still in luke's body luke began to fight the titan lord and seeing this along with putting together that he was not the hero he realized that the prophecy was referring to luke as the hero and the cursed blade was the knife that luke had given to annabeth then we come to the next line of the prophecy a single choice shall end his days luke told percy that percy could not kill him only he himself could the single choice for percy was whether or not to give luke annabeth's knife it was a risky and hard decision because luke had betrayed him so many times before and on top of that kronos could take over luke's body again and use the knife to kill percy who was now weaponless however luke came through as the hero stabbing himself in his one vulnerable spot killing both himself and kronos percy's choice of giving luke the knife ended luke's days and the final line olympus to preserve or raise this is the part where percy's choice would either result in the destruction of olympus or preserving olympus the way it is it of course ended with olympus staying the way it is and this was all because of the one choice percy made to give luke the knife had he not given luke the knife this most likely would have resulted in the destruction of olympus as chronos probably would have taken over luke's body again before luke had a chance to kill himself luckily though the right choice was made by percy and luke redeemed himself in his final act the greek prophecy had been feared by the gods and their allies for many years but ultimately everything turned out to be okay thanks to both percy the demigod of the big three that the prophecy was about and luke the hero that the prophecy referred to thank you so much for watching guys you
