Peace Corps Cribs - Dominican Republic (2013)

right now I'm gonna show you guys where I've been living for the last two years we are in a community of agua de lui small to Christie it's my house in the background just painted it blue white and yeah I'm gonna show you guys how I live for the last two years as a Peace Corps volunteer let's go again alright so right now we are in the living room of my house if it's hard to see me right now it's because I don't have any electricity so in the last few years without running water without electricity this is my couch I had another couch that was on the other side of my landlord game and took it down we've got concert poster that I went to all the kids that I've had over as part of my youth group draw a lots of pictures got the Dominican flag representing the dr well my landlord took out the sofa I built this bookshelf only one thought you deliver lots of maps it's pretty standard for Peace Corps volunteers Monica yeah right here we have a oh this the cecum listening glaze I dunno right here we've got an attendance sheet for my youth group so when the kids come to get a little sticker certificates for all the conference's that have gone to okay so right now we are in my extra bedroom I was lucky enough to have an extra bedroom here so all visitors that have whether that be my family no parents brothers or other Peace Corps volunteers Dominican Masons working a project with me they all stayed in here so we've got the standard mosquito net I use it's not so much for mosquito the more so for the tarantulas and the cockroaches this door goes out to my water tangles could take a look look at the water as I mentioned earlier I don't have any running water so what I've got right here is a six thousand litre tank that is full of rainwater so on the roof I've got a connection of tubes that are connected using a combination of elbows and tees as well as wire so all of that feeds into this Buffy right here and because I'm living alone I'm fortunate enough to have a ton of water this is this is my water huh so this is the water that I use to debate in wine I used to clean my house yeah it's full of mosquito larvae I've gotten dengue by since I've been here there's an environment Jeff Gordon welcome to my room the only thing is missing right now is the mosquito net I had but I've actually just closed down my service and I'm leaving the country in three days so I had to return my food in it house came complete with matching Pocahontas pillowcases awesome let's see I've got pictures are here to remind me of home family and friends you thought about the woods oh yeah Louise oh my dog named violet which means snowy Spanish baby every step of the way and I'm taking her back home with me in three days you ever find yourself in a foreign country and you see another American that you think might be pleased for volunteers just how you know we all kick it with these big old obnoxious back to packing backpacks I got my clothes over here you thought would join us you can see by all the empty clothes hangers good sentence packed up and get maggot to take us to bright colors in the VR into the kitchen I'm pretty lucky to have a kitchen separate from the actual house so it makes the house feel incredibly large table that I ate gecko has been sitting on for every night for the past nine months water filter which I don't believe works so I don't actually use it to drink drinking water buddy's after for bathing in keep on my food and container so rats don't eat it am i drinking water but unfortunately it's empty right now okay I'm leaving in two days dog food the dog here on the walls I've got a community diagnostic that I completed during my first three months in service and I keep those up on the wall to kind of help remind me why I'm here so I've got stats about the community stoves over here sink north I think with us you boys very much collodion yeah I lose ya back here we've got dishes at once again are in a container so that you know ran Chile's rats the geckos don't get into them a stove that some nachos have gotten dirty in a lab date or last night because we're making dinner but every day every day I drink this colleague reckon it's straight-up espresso extremely strong coffee I drink about two of these a day I'm a complete addict not like I was before piece for book gotta have my coffee this is where I wash dishes dirty dishes here wash them rinse off right here okay right now we are in the end Ramanath the my patio this is where I give all my Charla's the educational talks my youth group let's just take a moment to appreciate the newly painted house I mean come on up that's a damn good looking house right yeah yeah come out here let's go to the latrine so here's my latrine been doing my business here for actually it's for the past six months because I have an older latrine unfortunately a broke don't bother Boombah Boombah boom baby but my landlord had a new one built some heart fresh in it so smells good plastic toilet paper I shake it yeah this is where I take my my showers actually what we call bucket bats oh God 5-gallon methanol must be sick so what I do is I take a little water dump it all over myself get wet shampoo up soap up rinse myself off again one thing my father yeah before then so I'm classy and instead of fabricating something with a panel of zinc I decided to use this plastic bag as my door so what assume that just I was given all right so I hope you guys know have a better idea of how I've been living for the past two years I've loved absolutely every minute of it so if you guys are thinking about joining tea sport do it you guys got to go you guys got to go adios don't say she's new really hey guess tag Rolando yaki atomic todos
