[Music] I'm Chris welcome to my crib come on [Music] let's go back I think I forgot to explain what this video is going to be back so this is going to be my Peace Corps cribs video I'm gonna show you my apartment and where I've been living for the past few months but I invited my friend Chris to also do his Peace Corps cribs video because he lives in a very very different community than I do even though we don't live very far away from each other I have a very urban sight and he has a rural sight and I wanted to show you the difference between where we are living this is a wide range that Peace Corps volunteers can live in there are more becoming more urban sites in Peace Corps but then there's also a lot more rural sites as well when there's not water and electricity well I hope you enjoy let's get started okay so come on in so this is my little apartment there six in this building which is not very common usually people rent houses but I lucked out and got a really nice apartment here's a couch that I got gifted by a counterpart because we don't get a ton of money to furnish our houses so it was really nice that I got to have that for free my little boat seating area with my small table and one I'm hoping to get another one but that's gonna have to wait tell me Allah we are in the kitchen so this is my little kitchenette this is my little mini fridge and I have a printer because I'm kind of bougie but it's okay so now this is my kitchen counter it's like a marble countertop which is kind of fancy here's my little stove it just plugs into the wall so it's a little electric stove which is nice because I didn't really want to buy a gas tank which can be kind of expensive and there wasn't really a good place to put it so this was my alternative I know [Music] so as you can see my house here is up on stilts because a lot of the houses in this community are built up high because of rain and mud and everything let's go so over here is the main is where I will sit and eat you can tell I've covered things in plastic this is one of the most important things and a Peace Corps volunteers life the hammock tied up from here over there and here is my water filter very important for a lot of volunteers as well I can use rainwater to fill this up and then the filter to put into the bigger jugs down there for any water I cook with it I drink it and that's keeping me alive and well most importantly do we have the basketball and the hoop here this where to shoot some shots from a Manman Kobe right here so this is my bedroom I've tried to make it as cozy as possible this is another road map so as you can see I really love everything related to the world this is where I keep all my books some of them are school related because I'm in the English teaching sector so I have a lot of like kids books and textbooks and how to teach English and things like that but then also books for leisure so this is the closet I'm really lucky because in this unit I have a built-in closet and drawers which is super nice so I didn't have to buy anything to hang up my clothes and then you can come on in here to where the bedroom is this is a very important part for a lot of Peace Corps volunteers is the mosquito nets to protect you from mosquitoes spiders the occasional scorpion similar to Alana's house I have my closet here as well all my important clothes the t-shirts the pillows for work this is the Peace Corps shirt with a design I had the my host mom here do for me this three Angelo's is a design by the indigenous group than obey people here so it's very common to see these a little bit fancier professional clothes over here we also have two small solar panels to use for USB charging there is no electricity in the community so I use these for my cell phone my speaker and for lights I have a little solar light here and there's also two Luci lights but you might have seen outside just put them in the Sun for the day then hang them up whenever I need to cook or do anything in the evening okay so this is a pretty standard bathroom there's a sink in a toilet and the shower head is normal it's a pretty nice water pressure but there's no hot water but sometimes if the pipes have been in the Sun all day then the first like 30 seconds of the shower is a little bit warm which is super nice but I don't even mind when it's cold because it's very refreshing and it's so hot here that it feels nice and sometimes I'll close my eyes and I'll pretend that I'm standing under a waterfall and it makes it feel much more adventurous and fun now if we go downstairs I'll show you the bathroom and here we'll go into the shower area I don't have water as well so I use the bucket shower method here you can see you have two buckets filled up sometimes I like to pour the water from really high and close and I pretend I'm gonna waterfall coming around here you can see up here I have older rain tank from a previous volunteer about five or six years ago and that's where I get the majority of my water that you saw for drinking for bathing and all about it comes in a tube off the roof and into there here I use a pit latrine method here so there's no water going in basically on there well there you have it so that is the side-by-side comparison of both of our scripts I hope that you enjoyed I hope this was informative and helps you see it's a wide range of houses that this Corps volunteers can live in please don't forget to Like and subscribe this video I will try to be more consistent with making videos I know the last one I made was many many months ago but yes I'm gonna do my best to make more videos of my site and things that I've been doing here in the Peace Corps for the past few months so thank you so much bye it was taller than it would be more impressive but it's like shorter than you are though so makes it fun
