it is not uncommon for pawnshops to have a slightly sketchy clientele or customers trying to sell fake items and even though we usually don't see these customers on History Channel's Pawn Stars the guys from the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop in Las Vegas have dealt with a lot of irritating or dubious people over the years and here are 10 of their sleaziest customers in one of the earliest episodes of Pawn Stars a customer came to the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop with what he thought was an authentic Vietnam War era dagger that his father had given to him even though his young customers seemed to know some stuff about the dagger Rick quickly told him that the weapon wasn't authentic the experienced pawnbroker pointed out that the weapon was chromed which meant that it couldn't be that old and that the gems were probably plastic the owner had been hoping to get around 250 dollars for his dagger and was pretty disappointed to find out that the knife was probably made in Pakistan or China rather than Vietnam and he was even more disappointed that Rick wasn't interested in buying the weapon at all yeah there's just only certain things I'm able to sell in here besides if your dad gave it to you just keep it okay all right thanks anyway yeah thank you there you go the Pawn Stars have had to deal with a lot of strange people and strange items over the years but the time when a man came into the shop to offer them a human shrunken head was surely one of the weirdest moments oh my god when the hell did you do with Chumlee the Rick knew that the practice of head shrinking originated in some tribes of the northwestern Amazon as part of a revenge ritual he had never seen one himself the old man was against buying this creepy item right away while Rick was against making a deal due to the fact that he immediately noticed that this was not a real shrunken head since the stitches on the back of the head we're done with cotton thread something which the tribes in the Amazon wouldn't have had access to don't you hope for this pig sort of I hope it is real because that'll be worth more money if it's real some poor guy lost his head I don't want it in this shop if someone starts getting frustrated because you question an items authenticity it usually means that they have something to hide and Rick had to learn that the hard way in the episode Corey's big play from season five when he made a deal despite having doubts about its authenticity a seller offered him a 19th century Wells Fargo strongbox with two old prison ball-and-chain sets from the Yuma and Folsom Prison and even though Rick instantly identified the ball and chain sets as fakes he still paid four hundred and fifty dollars for everything another wake-up call should have been the fact that the owner was pretty defensive about his items so what are you trying to say it's fake what what makes you an expert on this stuff I've been buying and selling the stuff my entire life but Rick still thought he could make a little profit only to have his hopes shattered when he talked to the expert mark the beard of knowledge hall-patton called the box a complete piece of fantasy and told Rick that it was one of the most faked items altogether if this is a complete fantasy piece it's a complete fake damn it Rick some customers cut a fine figure in front of the cameras while others are simply not suitable to appear on TV either because they don't stand out enough or because they stand out too much once in a while local pimps visit the Harrisons pawn shop to buy jewelry for example as they can bring it back later in order to pawn it and get a loan on half of its value in cash this is a loophole in the law that gives them the chance to pay bail because their cash is always confiscated upon their arrest and while this might be interesting to a lot of viewers it is not exactly suitable for a family-friendly TV show which is why you will probably not ever see a pimp appeared on Pawn Stars like many other pawn stores the Harrisons have taken in stolen items on occasions but we rarely get to see them buy stolen goods on the show however during the season 4 episode sub for sale Rick bought a one-man [ __ ] submarine that later turned out to be stolen in the episode a woman named Net brought the underwater craft to the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop saying that she had gotten it from a person who had it just sitting in their yard and offered it to her for free if she took it with her right away Rick found this a little suspicious since the new submarine like this would have cost up to a hundred grand but he still decided to give it a shot Lynette's asking price was twenty-five thousand dollars but Rick quickly reminded her that they were in the middle of the desert and pointed out that the underwater craft was in pretty bad shape you do realize we're in the middle of a desert right well yeah but there's lakes and stuff the pawnshop owner eventually managed to strike a deal for just three thousand dollars but unfortunately it later turned out that his initial doubts about the whole thing being legit weren't unfounded as the submarine had been reported stolen five years earlier the original owners lawyer happened to be watching Pawn Stars when he saw his client stolen submarine so Rick ultimately had to give the underwater craft back to its wealthy owner Las Vegas police later issued a statement explaining that Lynette who had sold the u-boat to the pawn stars appeared to be innocent as she was unaware of the fact that she had been given stolen goods and was basically being used as a middleman things at the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop rarely get out of hand but in October 2011 Daniel Callahan filed a lawsuit against Rick and the old man for physically assaulting him inside their shop Callahan a Vietnam veteran who walks with a cane got into an argument with the father and son duo before they placed him as he said in a chokehold dragged him through the store and threw him onto the sidewalk Callahan claimed that he was injured in the incident and his cane as well as the rifle he had brought in for appraisal were damaged he was seeking $20,000 in the suit but according to Corey his father and grandfather can't really be blamed for throwing him out of the shop as he became absolutely irate with a weapon in his hand anyone who has ever watched Pawn Stars knows that the guys would never sell anything that isn't a hundred percent real which is why Rick got pretty upset when a customer first questioned whether the diamond on a 1975 Golden State Warriors MBH bean ship ring was real and then unpacked his own cheap testing device to make sure that it was customer rich explained that he was the collector and broker of some of the world's finest and most expensive sports memorabilia but his device unfortunately wouldn't test the stone Rick pointed out that he had a really cheap tester that won't tested if the diamond is too hot so he reluctantly brought his own but I know this diamond is real and the fact that this guy brought in his own cheap little tester I'm gonna be nice clearly not happy to be doubted like that Rick was the unwilling to accept anything below $11,000 for the ring well rich had been looking to spend between five thousand five hundred and seven thousand five hundred for the ring he wanted to give to his fiancee being so far apart there was no deal to be done and rich was evidently not just disappointed but also pretty pissed I didn't think he was gonna go fifty five hundred but I thought you know he'd work with me a little bit but they seemed like he wanted to punch me in the face it seems like coin collectors are some of the hardest customers to please and in season 12 Rick especially upset a man named Mark who came into the shop with an 1867 proof shield nickel that he'd had for about 15 years market had the coin graded in everything and Rick was intrigued by this extremely rare piece that was one of the finest ones of its kind ever graded according to mark only 25 of these nickels had been made and Rick was aware of how special this coin was because it was a proof coin meaning it was a polished blank coin that was put into the minting machine and they had made sure it was a perfect coin Rick also knew that proof coins from the 1800s are very rare and could be worth some serious money mark added that this proof coin was an actual production for about a month before they stopped production because the coin had Stars and Bars on it which the North didn't like due to the fact that the Stars and Bars signify the Confederacy based on the coins great condition and it's great historical value the owner was looking to get about $90,000 for it which prompted Rick to call in his expert who said that these coins had brought in a range of prices for about 63,000 to 80,000 Rick's customer was not too happy to that saying he had a different opinion of the coins value well he eventually came down to eighty thousand dollars however Rick didn't want to go above fifty thousand bottom line eighty cells that's not gonna happen sorry we're not gonna be able make a deal we'll have a nice statement after leaving the shop an upset mark said that you would have to be totally on the desert with no water in order to take Rick's extremely low offer of fifty grand he'd have to be totally on the desert with no water in order to take that offer he could have had it for 80 units gonna go for 120 or 125 in the next few months probably diehard fans of Pawn Stars will remember the time when a guy came to the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop in the second season to sell a Perseus and Pegasus statue from 1888 by French sculptor Emil Lewis Picoult for about six thousand dollars Rick pointed out that there were a few cracks that wouldn't be there if it was an original casting and that this was probably a recast from 40 or 50 years earlier that was made long after Picoult had died he even found a coining that said made in USA on the statue which was more than enough proof for Rick that it wasn't an original I don't believe you okay I mean I just don't see 1800 here however the customer simply said that he didn't believe him and didn't care what Rick said he stated that what you see and what you can prove is two different stories and got pretty angry I don't care what you're saying I don't care what you tell me but I know you're full of you know it's alright Antoine I got it before the old man eventually stepped in and explained that they don't buy stuff when they aren't sure about it and that the statue wasn't for them the guy eventually walked out of the shop with his statue saying that it was Rick's loss and not his a few years ago a young man named Chris came to the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop to sell a Hudson Bay Gorgon he believed that the ornate piece of armour that covers the throat to protect it from injury had been made by one of the oldest companies in America in the 1700s but Rick unfortunately informed him otherwise since Chris didn't know much about the item except that his father had bought it in an auction and paid a second mortgage on his house for it Rick proceeded to give a little history lesson saying that it might have been a trade piece of the Indians because the glass beads of the necklace were made of venetian glass when he then asked Chris how much he wanted for the piece his customers shocked him by saying that he was hoping to get a hundred grand for about a hundred thousand you know I don't see that happening Rick then told him that he would maybe pay $1,000 for the gorgon because it didn't date back to the 1700s as he could tell by the yellow and gray patina which showed that it was made of nickel silver which contains zinc which wasn't isolated until the 1800s Chris reacted by using some expletives before telling Rick that he didn't know what he was smoking all right what the [ __ ] are you talking about Seana you're way out of line he then took his stuff and left angrily commenting on the transaction and swearing in front of the camera again because he felt like Rick had just low-balled him all right have a nice day that guy I think he's just thinks I'm some punk kid and wanted to lowball me I'm disappointed gonna make a deal I would've liked you made the money thank you for checking this video
