[Music] we've all heard the saying the customer's always right but that doesn't mean the customer is an expert and when it comes to pawn shops and experts opinion is usually more important than satisfying a customer not getting the deal you hoped for can be pretty upsetting but that doesn't mean you have to be a scumbag like these 10 customers who appeared on Pawn Stars when regular customer Rob came to the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop with a Colt Dragoon with JP Cole's engraving he was hoping to sell it for $13,000 in order to make sure the gun was genuine and to get an expert's appraisal Corey called Craig to check it out after explaining what to look for to see if the gun was real or fake Craig took a closer look and confirmed that it was real however when he then said it was worth around $8,500 Rob was not very happy according to him an identified Dragoon was incredibly rare and difficult to find while JP Cole's was historically significant so he was convinced that it was worth a lot more than that Craig pointed out that the beauty of the gun and the importance of the name were in the eye of the beholder explaining that he was a dealer who bought hundreds of guns every year unlike a collector who might buy a couple of guns per month or even year picking out his favorite pieces while this explained the different ideas about the dragoons value it didn't help Rob sell his gun as he was unwilling to go below twelve thousand dollars which ultimately meant that there was no deal to be made [Music] anything connected to the legendary Titanic is pretty popular which is why Frederick believed that the 1906 half-dollar that had belonged to Titanic victim John W Gill was worth more than a hundred grand based on the fact that a $1 bill that came off of a survivor of the Titanic had sold for a hundred and twenty-five thousand dollars at auction he figured his item would be worth around the same especially since the story of the Titanic is not really about its survivors but rather about the victims Rick's expert David confirmed that collectors really line up for that kind of thing but he also pointed out that this coin had sold in 2011 for about three thousand eight hundred and fifty dollars and then again in 2014 for about twenty-one thousand and that a coin like that would really have to reach its ultimate audience where you can justify charging much more than that he therefore put it somewhere in the ballpark of twenty-one thousand dollars which Frederic really didn't like to hear saying he understood how David came up with his number but that the auctions had clearly missed its audience considering that he had paid seventy five thousand dollars for the coin he was not willing to go below that while Rick was not ready to go above ten thousand dollars an offer that the shocked owner could barely even take seriously as he left the shop without having made the sale collectors of any kind are some of the hardest customers to please and in season 12 Rick especially upset a man named mark he came into the shop with a graded 1867 proof shield nickel that he had for about 15 years Rick was intrigued by the extremely rare coin that was one of the finest ones of its kind ever graded according to mark only 25 of these nickels have been made and Rick was aware of how special it was because it was a proof coin meaning it was a polished blank coin that was put into the minting machine and they had made sure it was a perfect coin Rick also knew that proof coins from the 1800s are very rare and could be worth some serious money mark added that this particular one was an actual production for about a month before they stopped production because the coin had Stars and Bars on it which the North didn't like due to the fact that the Stars and Bars signify the Confederacy based on his coins great condition and it's great historical value mark was looking to get about $90,000 for it which prompted Rick to call in his expert who said that these coins had brought in a range of prices from about 63 thousand dollars to 80 thousand Rick's customer was not too happy to hear that saying that he had a different opinion of the coins value he eventually came down to $80,000 but Rick didn't want to go above 50,000 so an upset mark left the shop without a deal saying that you would have to be totally on the desert with no water in order to take Rick's extremely low offer of 50 grand [Music] when the pawn stars callin they're experts to appraise items they don't always agree with the values that owners seen their items but one customer nearly got into an argument with Steve grad over assigned Led Zeppelin album while Rick's customer was asking for $22,000 the signed album was only worth about 10 to 12,000 according to the expert the owner was pretty offended saying that grad was just an autograph person and not a real appraiser which in turn left grab feeling offended the Authenticator left before things got more heated but with Rick trusting his expert his best offer was $8,000 stressing that the album was a piece of history owner Robert said that his bottom dollar was 17,500 and eventually left the shop being pretty upset about Steve grads appraisal any fan of Madonna's would be ecstatic if they were offered one of her old personal day planners including the dates for video shoots or recording sessions as well as the phone numbers of a number of Hollywood stars Cory on the other hand was nothing but shocked that the owner Robert was hoping to get $25,000 for this 1988 diary he called Steve Brad for help and while he confirmed that the day planner had indeed belonged to Madonna he valued it at about 10,000 to 12,000 dollars for some reason Cory then decided to offer just four grand insulting every Madonna fan including his customer who pointed out that he had been offered a lot more than 10 grand while Robert was willing to go down to 20,000 Cory was stuck at 5,000 and a deal was never made if you are an avid collector you might not always be happy about the Pawn Stars reaction to your favorite items and this is exactly what happened to a customer who came into the shop with a PEZ dispenser collection the man was pretty excited about the dispensers that were all from the 1960s and 70s and was looking to sell them for no less than $2,500 although Corey and Chumlee were interested they weren't willing to spend more than 1 grand prompting the customer to angrily walk out of the shop and calling their offer an insult to the Pez community hopefully he found someone who appreciated the candy dispensers without any candy more than those two so he could sell his doubles to expand his collection further if you've been watching Pawn Stars for a long time you will remember the iconic customer from season 2 who wanted to sell a Perseus and Pegasus statue from 1888 by French sculptor Emil Lewis fficult for about six thousand dollars Rick pointed out that there was a few cracks that wouldn't be there if it was an original casting and that is probably a recast from 40 or 50 years earlier that was made long after Picoult had died he even found a coining that said made in the USA on the statue which was more than enough proof that Rick needed it wasn't an original however the customer simply said that he didn't believe him and didn't care what Rick said he stated that what you see and what you can prove is two different stories and got pretty angry before the old man eventually stepped in and explained that they didn't buy stuff when they aren't sure about it and that the statue wasn't for them the guy eventually walked out of the shop with his statute saying that it was Rick's loss and not his anyone would be upset when finding out that a family heirloom is not worth as much as you thought but this guy's reaction was pretty obnoxious Chris came to the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop a few years ago looking to sell a Hudson Bay Gorgas he believed that the ornate piece of armour that covers the throat to protect it from injury had been made by one of the oldest companies in America in the 1700s but Rick unfortunately informed him otherwise since Chris didn't know much about the item except that his father had bought it at an auction and paid a second mortgage on his house for it Rick proceeded to give a little history lesson saying that it might have been a trade piece of the Indians because the glass beads of the necklace were made of Phoenician glass when he then asked Chris how much he wanted for the piece his customers shocked him by saying that he was hoping to get a hundred grand Rick replied that he would maybe pay $1,000 for the Gorgui based on what he saw Chris reacted by using some expletives before telling Rick that he didn't know what he was smoking he then took his stuff and left angrily commenting on the transaction and swearing in front of the cameras again because he felt like Nick had just low-balled him [Music] anyone who has ever watched Pawn Stars knows that the guys would never sell anything that isn't a hundred percent real which is why Rick got pretty upset when a customer first question whether the diamond on a 1975 Golden State Warriors NBA championship ring was real and then unpacked his own cheap testing device to make sure that it was customer rich explained that he was a collector and brogurt of some of the world's finest and most expensive sports memorabilia but his device unfortunately wouldn't test the stone rich pointed out that he had a really cheap tester that won't test if the diamond is too hot so he reluctantly brought his own clearly not happy to be doubted like that Rick was unwilling to accept anything below $11,000 for the ring while rich had been looking to spend between five thousand five hundred and seven thousand five hundred for the ring he wanted to give to his fiance being so far apart there was no deal to be done and rich was evidently not just disappointed but also pretty pissed saying that he had thought the pawn shop owner would work with him a little but that it had seemed like Rick rather wanted to punch him in the face which to be fair might have been true [Music] in the opening episode of season 5 an older guy named herb came to the shop with a baseball glove signed by Babe Ruth and a bat signed by Ruth and Christy Mathewson although he had a letter of authentication Rick was skeptical and decided to call in sports-memorabilia expert Jeremy this already upset the customer who apparently felt that being the oldest guy in the room he would know best so when he saw how young Jeremy was he got even more agitated commenting that he had underwear older than Jeremy while the bat would have been worth at least 50,000 dollars Rick's expert unfortunately expressed serious doubts about its authenticity he explained that the authentication letter for the bat included the name of a guy involved in a huge scandal in the late 1990s that revolved around a group of authenticators who gave fraudulent signatures on memorabilia because of that auction houses wouldn't recognize his signature as legitimate anymore so Jeremy thought it was pretty unlikely that the bat was the real deal especially since the signature on it didn't look aged consistent with the bat itself in addition to that he pointed out that roofs and matthewsons careers had hardly overlapped so it was not very likely that they would have signed the same bat unsurprisingly the seller was pretty disgruntled about this and as he left the shop without a deal he wondered if Jeremy was even old enough to have heard of Babe Ruth [Music]
