many Americans probably don't know that in British schools we don't learn a whole lot about the American Revolution because it's not as important to our history as it is to American history so we learn about other things like the Russian Revolution which I don't know why we learn about the Russian Revolution so much we do like two years on the Russian Revolution no idea why so today a British man is going to learn about the American Revolution in the best way that you can by watching an oversimplified video holy smokes Christopher Columbus that is no way to address the king and queen of Spain what is wrong with you okay okay so you know how we're looking for a new trade rout to India right right and the Earth is round right so I'm thinking we can just sail the other way around the planet right so I set sail right and I reach India right wrong wrong no I did not reach India that's crazy did not all right all right get to the point did you know there's a whole another freaking continent out there no way and you think I should care about this why oh I'm sorry did I forget to mention there's gold everywhere oh okay see this is where we get into it this is where we get right they're down into it is and uh from what I know of History Christopher cumbus was what we'd say is not a very nice fella not a very nice guy he did some uh unsavory things that we don't like so we don't have uh we don't have a lot of love for this guy right gold gold no Columbus landed in Central America in October 1492 and he a I didn't even make it to the mainland how dude he he angled badly there although to be fair Central the actual Mainland America is pretty high up on the old uh trajectory latitudes the time of his life and by that I mean he went on a huge theft and murder spree he stole gold jewelry people and a hammock and then he returned to show off all of his riches including and everyone was like oh my God look at the hammock that's such a cool inventure why didn't we think about that before we could lie and sleep outside and we could also Sway in the breeze this seems like a very cool thing to do a few previously undiscovered items such as tobacco the pineapple turkeys and a hammock now I know okay pineapples are not that good of a fruit to be honest so discovering the pineapple not great who the guy that discovered the strong strawberry we need to give that guy a out in the back who discovered the grape see my sign even changed colors it's so excited about grapes thinking but oversimplified Columbus didn't discover America the Vikings did and you'd be partially right in the 11th century leaf ericon was the first European to land in America but and we all know this because there's an anime based on it because it's called what Vinland Saga honestly if America was called a Vinland instead I think we'd all be having a much better time if you love Vikings so much then why don't you check out today's sponsor there it is was ins freaking that was such a good lead into the sponsor how did he do that these aren't the people playing this game no they wait Su these are stock photos Vikings war of Clans is for you I've always wanted to have a war with Clans more than 20 million online players are constantly changing way the game evolves by never fighting over resources forging new alliances and competing in Live Events Sounds aming by downloading Vikings for free only from my links in the description box below okay well if I go to the the link in the description box below it's oh um uh okay uh oh well um and get the special bonus of 200 gold coins and a protective shield don't forget to look me up and join my Vikings Clan under my nickname over simplified now do you think over simplified still plays it this video is 5 years old by the way so I don't know if this is still a link that works where was I it's a 5-year-old ad Columbus time of his life hammock and the race was on to explore and conquer the new world after a couple centuries of Waring with the natives and each other the European powers had claimed quite a lot of land damn how did they okay how did they know they had that much land no one's going like drawing a ruler over this that's so much that's much bigger than the size of France or the UK they they couldn't have known that they had they didn't own that the British didn't own this tiny Island nobody went to this island there was no one on this island anyone could have went to the island nobody would have known that you had went to the island you could just go and build a house on the island no one would know because there's no one there no one went to check he no one's doing taxes on the island including this area which both the English and the French claimed as theirs one day the said I'm going to build some forts along here and the English were like could you not and the French said sorry but no I could not not and they went ahead and built their forts which pissed off the English so they sent an upand cominging British Lieutenant Colonel by the name of George Washington with George Washington truly this will be the peak of his career comined force of British troops and Native Americans after a short battle the French Commander said all right all right we surrender okay boys pack it up they surrender oh sorry was I not meant to split head open with the tomahawk oh is that is that true like this will start a s-e long major global conflict and what happened next was a sevene long major global conflict which great at the peace negotiations Spain gave up Florida while France gave up all of its territories in North America dude look at this look at how much land this is no one you don't really own this land there's no way you can have a big swath on a map you don't really own it because no one's going there let random spot in the middle of Middle America with that Spain allegedly owns no one's there no one's going to go there just go in there and build a house you can have it you can squat on Spanish land no one's going to see but Britain's Victory came at a cost a60 million cost ooh and that was in what the 1800s so that's probably a couple bill now now broke in a lot of debt and had to come up with some way to repay it so they went to the colonies and said okay listen up so a huge part of the war was spent protecting you from the French and now we have no money because of it so what if they wanted to be French I'm not sure what you're saying here okay so we spent a lot of money protecting you from the French right right and now we're broke y that certainly is a pickle listen to me we spent all of our money protecting you and now we need money mhm can you I don't know what what are they trying to get out here please pay us back some money yeah no oh they want money oh okay we're just going to go ahead and tax you in 176 the streamer acts dumb in for comedic effects it it doesn't always work4 Britain introduced the Sugar Act forcing the colonists to import sugar and molasses ex yeah did they want protection from the French what if they wanted the B from the British and to pay Duty on them then a year later they introduced the extremely controversial Stamp Act and it worked a little something like this hello shopkeep hello Mr Bungle Barry here's the deed for your new Shack stamp that'll be 3 p please wait what was that it's the new tax I get a stamp on any paper documentation I make and you have to pay for it would you like to see this pamphlet that explains everything yes please okay stamp 2 p please this is this seems like a great money-making tactic awful you know what just give me a deck of cards so I can go gamble my pain away okay you can't stamp the cards no don't stamp the cards a a don't don't obviously the colonists were like hey my dud this new tax legislation right here this is BS that just goes to show that everything is made up all tax is just made up all the rules all the laws it's just made up and to just to see what people can get away with if they can get away with doing a little bit more tax they'll just try and figure out a way to do it oh yeah if I stamp this now now it's put more tax on it because that's what I said because I said that until now they had enjoyed relative freedom to rule themselves and now sudden suddenly Britain was asserting its control they were especially unhappy because they didn't have any representatives in the Parliament that was levying taxes on them so they protested orators gave fiery speech did any of the other colonies have Representatives or is America L like we're we're amazing what do you mean we're special cuz he probably should have Representatives taxation without representation I mean that's that's not great that am I American British goods were boycotted and anyone loyal to the British found themselves increasingly harassed the whole thing actually began to take quite a toll on British business and after just a couple years the British were forced to repeal the Stamp Act but we still desperately need money what should we do we could try taxing the colonies great idea didn't we literally just try that and a failed miserably man look at me I look fabulous have you ever seen such a handsome boy no sir Georgie to be fair that is a really really nice pain in no way you're the handsomest smartest most popular King that ever lived and everybody likes you m that's true everybody does your majesty oh you're still here and it was true because everybody loved him so in 1766 made a declaration saying we can do what want cuz we're in charge and you can all go suck it then the declaratory act a whole bunch of new taxes on the Americans via import duties and then they did the law where you have to give your wife to a British man uh to have sex with before you uh consumate your marriage you have to do that wait I'm sure that was a law somewhere that that was definitely a law somewhere that before you consumate your marriage with your wife you have to give your wife to some Lord that was definitely a law at some point there's a text for that lead there's a tax for that paper tea oil there's a tax for that wa that's an interesting picture that they Ed there just pause on that and think about the implication of that for a second we had to download that one didn't we we had to we had to search that one up we had to search for oil being poured on sweaty naked man no no he's not naked he's wearing shorts actually once again the Americans boycotted British goods British business felt the pinch and the British had to back down all right this is there was attacks on being sexy I'm sorry is it is it illegal to be hot is it illegal to have steamy oil dripping down your your massive chiseled abdomen I'm sorry are you going to tax that now is against the law to be to be hot ridiculous they're my colonies and I have to be able to assert my control repeal all the new taxes except for the warant also send 1,000 troops to Boston to take control oh and make the colonists pay for them 1,000 does not seem like a massive actually to be fair a thousand is is quite a lot just to really have a show of force it must have taken them long to get there as well cuz that to get on the boat and that to sail for months British troops arrived the tension in Boston was palpable you could cut it with a knife and it was all about to come to a head on March 5th a band of local Patriots began heckling a British guard at the customs house more and more Americans joined in the heckling while more British troops turned up in support of their comrade snowballs were thrown at the British the Snowballs turned to rocks the rocks to oyster shells what wait are oyster shells harder than rocks outnumbered panicked one thing leads to another and you can see where this is going those oyster shells were the Patriot press throughout the colonies declared the Boston Massacre an unwarranted crime committed against the people of Boston by the cruel British and the anger continued to grow a British Revenue Schooner that ran around in Rhode Island was burned by the locals when it came to light that the governor of Massachusetts supported the suppression of the colonists his house was burned by the locals and next the colonists would set their sights on the remaining tax on te oh no I don't know if I can watch this P I mean it's it's a little difficult for for you know for a British man to watch this it's a little hard I don't know it's just a lot more difficult than it would be for you Americans um because of the cultural heritage it's it's 173 a band of Patriots known as the Sons of Liberty disguised themselves as Native Americans marched Harbor boarded a British merchant ship loaded with tea and in front of thousands of Spectators threw nearly 10,000 lb worth of tea over go were disgusted and was it was it tasty oh God they actually did drink it they dissolved it gener it would just be so salty see if the sea was made of Sweet Water instead of of saltwater it would be so much better and it is a real waste that they did that it's a real shame and it's a real waste that's so much tea that just went down the dra I'm actually I'm a little mad about that you know it just seems like an auto waste assembly revoked their Charter and sent 3,000 more troops to occupy the city meaning Boston and Massachusetts were now essentially under the direct rule of Great Britain and oh boy were the people pissed the other colonies saw what was happening and worried they might be next so they called a Brain Trust to decide what to do 56 delegates from 12 colonies gathered and met in Philadelphia at the First Continental Congress and the roll call read like a who's who of America's Finest thinkers I'm talking lawyers extraordinary okay do we have fine thinkers this day and age you know you think about the finest thinkers of times gone past you think about Nicola Tesla you think about Albert Einstein you think about Alan Turing what what's who's our fine thinkers now do we have fine do we have smart people now are we are we an idiot no not Elon Musk come on dude seriously Elon Musk is a fine thing come on be realistic stop kiding around we don't have any fine thinkers now Mr Beast Mr Beast Johnny a and Johnny J experienced military commander George Washington businessman and future alcoholic beverage Samuel Adams fiery orator Patty H guy who married a rich lady big J Dickinson and while pres at the first Congress Su names like James Madison Benjamin Franklin Thomas Jefferson and much later Alexander Hamilton would all serve time in the Continental Congress the question now though was what to do about the British after much bitter debate and disagreement they eventually agreed on an amazing solution they would simply ask the British to stop can you stop I wonder how this will go it didn't work okay they the local militias to start arming and be ready at a minute's notice and across the colonies these Minutemen stood ready for the beginning of the American Revolutionary and they were called Minutemen so that they could activate and get in position in a minute uh minutes were much longer back in the day they were more like 3 hours was a minute back in the day and an hour was actually 2 and 1 half days but actually a day was a week and a half plus 2 minutes which of course as we know is 3 hours which would have converted to about 17 and 1/2 Days War now having your colonies in open Rebellion is one thing once they start arming themselves that's when it really hits the fan so British general Thomas Gage ordered 700 troops from Boston out into the rebel controlled Massachusetts Countryside to destroy stores of arms and ammunition held by the rebels in Concord the British set out in the middle of the night Patriots Concord I've been there I recognize that from Fallout 4 including PA r to warn that the British were coming giving the rebels time to wait that's real I thought those was a meme the two sides met in Lexington as the sun began to rise they faced off against each other and in the confusion somebody shot first the shot oh was it oh it was it wasn't the British that shot first well guys sounds like we're the good guys in this situation hey we do you guys shot first although to be fair there was five people killed in Boston but you guys ped the tea in the harbor so that's an eye for an eye we you know that £10,000 worth of tea is equal to five men's worth of life so it was equal it was Even Stevens we don't know who shot first it was probably me I'm sorry it was me guys I'm sorry herd around the world marked the beginning of the American war of independence the rebels were outnumbered he said somebody yeah it just showed in the video that uh like a British guy got a show so I assume that that's what what happened if we don't know then it was probably me and had to fall back to Concord as the British split up to search for Rebels supplies however more and more Patriot Rebels kept showing up and this time it was the British who are outnumbered as more fighting kicked off in Concord the most professional army in the world was forced to flee back to Boston at the hands of local poorly trained militi men and all along the British Ro back to Boston Patriot Rebels continued to gather an open fire on the retreating British when the British reached Boston the rebel militia surrounded them Boston and the British were now Under Siege as looks like War's been declared boys Naval Skirmish has continued around the city and the British would suffer another embarrassing blow this time in Upstate New York Colonel Benedict Arnold concocted a plan to take the the British strong Benedict Arnold just sounds like a super villain he sounds like just a bad person you seriously come on that's a villain's name Fort taond deroga which held a large amount of guns and ammunition he set off towards the fort alone hoping to recruit men along the way when he came across the Green Mountain Boys led by Ethan Allen who has the Green Mountain Boys this isn't real I'm beginning to think the mean Revolution didn't actually happen he just guys made just made up like you you were just you just made up this isn't real the exact same plan he did so they decided to work together but I'm in charge no I'm in charge no I'm in charge no I'm in charge no I'm in charge no I'm in charge no I'm in charge this went on for some time until the Green Mountain Boys threatened to go home and Arnold had to concede the group raided the fort at night while the red cats were asleep and they caught them completely by surprise taking the fort and all of its Munitions with almost no resistance wow great job Ethan impressive by the way what happened to that other guy we sent to take the fort who Benedict Arnold never heard of him D he's just in the back oh that's that's tough is he actually like a good good fella the F nobody knew what was going on the colonies were yeah I'm not surprised it was thousands of miles away it would probably take like months to get report it's not like you can just send a text to the king be like lol lame our guys just got absolutely owned XX by the way miss you bb kiss open rebellion and for now they even seem to be winning so King George fired general Gage replaced him with General William how and ordered the Rebellion to be put down immediately okay the British are definitely going to retaliate for all of this so we should probably put together a proper Army first we need to pick a commander-in-chief and I think we can all agree that that job should go to the man the myth the legend yeah here it comes there it is honored that you would consider me for such an important role I did not expect for this all right you've been showing up in a military uniform every day for the last 10 months we all know you wanted this so cut the crap George dude he's so humble look how humble he is began his journey Up To Boston to take command of the newly established continental army just as the British made their first major attempt to break the siege they wait what they have the same flag that the did they not want to like change it plans to take The High Ground on Bunker Hill but spies warned the Continentals of the British plans so they fortified Bunker Hill and set up defensive positions on nearby breeds Hill the day of the battle came and as the British Advanced a barrage of Continental gunfire was opened up on them twice what they they pushed uphill oh that's a that's a tough cell man you don't want to push uphill into gunfire they tried to climb the hill twice they were pushed back the battle lasted 3 hours until the Continentals finally ran out of ammunition and had to retreat oh that's an embarrassing defeat imagine losing because the side ran out of ammo they've been shooting you so much like ah well boys we got no more ammo I got to leave the British to take the hill while technically a British Victory they suffered nearly 1,000 casualties to the Continentals the colonists show the British that this wasn't it is crazy how small these battles are compared to you look at Chinese history and Chinese history is like the Battle of a small farm 100,000 men and then you go to European history in the Middle Ages and even in the American Revolution and the battles are so small it's like Five Guys and a monkey went to fight against three dogs and their owner and they were ready for it but one thing they weren't sure about was why they were fighting while some radicals were starting to throw around the I word what white people think of China yeah honestly I'll I'll I me I'll take the L on that one if I'm wrong but it seemed like Chinese history had massive massive clashes of hundreds of thousands of people and then like European history is like yeah five people most hope to eventually repair their relationship with Great Britain so they sent a letter to King George saying hey man looks like things aren't going your way Mo the taxes and let's be friends I'm going to kick your ass send that to the colonies your majesty your handwriting is terrible are you sure just do it what does it say he's going to it's like a doctor's handwriting lick my gross I mean not not for the remainder of the Year small engagements continue to occur around the colonies the British burned down the towns of fouth Massachusetts and norfol Virginia as revenge for earlier anti-british incidents these oh we have a nor in a fall mouth played right into the hands of patriot propag Uganda overseas the British were seen as brutes and the French and Spanish would soon begin sending supplies to the rebel cause during this time the care package coming in from French a minor fighting going on between Patriot and Loyalist militias in the southern colonies Benedict Arnold was still in a mission to win some personal glory for himself so he headed up an attempt to invade Canada in a two-pronged attack the Contin captur some British Forts and the City of Montreal but a harsh snowstorm with some small pox on the side saw them defeated and pushed back at Quebec City and they were no okay they didn't they didn't lose Quebec speaking of which remember all the dude that's such a long way as well that distance to travel is such a long distance look how big the map is in America that's that's hundreds of miles that must have taken so long to go through speaking of which remember all those guns and ammunition well this guy's got a plan for what to do with them he uses oxin to drag 120,000 lb of artillery for 2 months through the harsh winter 300 all the way to Washington and his continental army surrounding Boston see this is what's wrong with the generation nowadays they wouldn't do that they wouldn't drag 120,000 lb of ammunition with oxen through the harsh winter for two months they wouldn't do that they'd scroll on Tik Tok they they'd send a Snapchat is what they would do they' put a hashtag on Twitter they would change their Instagram profile pictur to show their support they wouldn't they wouldn't drag it through 120,000 lb of ammunition it's the kids boom Washington's got himself some big guns damn this is a real picture as well which is fortunate because up until now his army had been suffering through the cold winter not knowing when The Siege would end now they could make him move Washington wanted to launch a fool assault on the city but his Junior officers felt the British were too fortified and to his credit Washington was great at hearing and taking on board the ideas of others instead the Continentals worked through the night setting the guns up on Dorchester Heights overlooking the city and when Dawn broke and the British saw the guns they knew they were toast their positions were completely exposed it was Checkmate they had no choice but to abandon the city 120 ships car red coats and 2,000 the boats right yeah of course did they shoot at the boats or was it too far away I know they were positioned on the hill but I feel like the range isn't that great away to an unknown fate and Washington had his first victory of the war Washington then then moved his army to New York knowing that when the British returned they would probably land there in the meantime a friendly looking old man by the name of Thomas Payne had written and published a pamplet called common sense in which he advocated for total independence from Great Britain it spread across the colonies like wildfire and to this day Remains the bestselling title in America it wait what really best selling American Title oh an American Title I was like hey I'm pretty sure the Bible's like pretty good selling right read allow in taverns and meeting halls and brought the idea of Independence into the mainstream Congress began to seriously con considered the idea Thomas Jefferson was selected to write up an official Declaration of Independence and he went hard writing that all men are created equal with certain inalienable rights including life liberty and the pursuit of happiness ooh that's a is this is this before they did slavery of course Jefferson had over 100 slaves but we don't right right yes of course of course so inalienable rights Pursuit of Happiness as long as you're white right okay Congress voted unanimously in favor of Independence and John Adams declared that the 2nd of July would go down as the most remembered day in American history then and my God it is seriously second of July every single year they will let you know couple days later Independence actually came into effect the United States of America was born there was no turning back now the Americans tore down a statue of King George in New York and melted him down into 42,000 musket Balls to the British it was treason and if the king Way Washington and all of Congress would be hung speaking of the British guess who's back the king sent an intimidating force of 130 warships and 25,000 men to New York now that is a Force 130 warships that's pretty good you can just absolutely lay down the fire I assume I don't know the only experience I have with Naval Combat is I played some Total War games but I assume that you could fire on the city from the ships that's a thing that you could Doon knew that taking on the most powerful military in the world wouldn't be easy the British set up camp on Staten Island as the Americans dug into defensive positions around Brooklyn Heights waiting for an attack to come but the British just waited wearing down their opponent's nerve while building their own strength at at one point they launched a big scary artillery barrage and then said you know if I was you right now I'd probably sue for peace but Washington told them to shove it the Americans kept holding out for what was coming and when they finally hit they hit hard 15,000 British troops approached the American position and the two sides fired on each other in massive rows but what the Americans didn't real it is actually crazy the way that people used to fight Wars which is just get into a massive line because it was the most effective way to do it so you could have everyone firing at the same time you could have the most amount of of fire and I guess if you're more spread out than individual artillery hits are going to do less damage than if you're all clumped together but man it just the sight of people lining up and just like standing there and then and then firing one shotting and going all right I got to reload and just not moving from that space is insane I guess it is also better to issue orders as well because it's very hard to uh keep people doing the same thing and get doing the correct orders if they're all scared about and all of that but it is funny to look at realiz was they were only fighting a decoy the main British force was going around to flank the Americans from behind and when they arrived they inflicted Ed heavy casualties the Americans panicked and retreated back to BR man a Wars used to be way more interesting than about strategy yeah now we just got drone strikes now we just why can't we make war interesting again come on God war is so boring now you just use like drones let's have the cool War back in Heights where they then found themselves trapped between the British Army and the river it looked as though the war was already lost but luckily instead of attacking the British decided to dig in for a Siege and then a thick fog set in allowing Washington's Army to escape across the river unimpeded the what really I can't imagine the logistics of doing this in real life just a fog and they just allow that's got to be really loud right I mean you you be right but if they're surrounded and they go over a river and just it's just a fog come on someone's got to see it surely British continued to Chase and engage the Americans out Manhattan and the Americans suffered defeat after defeat after defeat it was a disaster Washington's leadership was called into question guys they might lose this thousands of American PS were left to rot as traitor Washington fled through New Jersey all the way down to Pennsylvania rarely had an army been so badly beaten yet survived to fight another day okay but I mean to be honest it's looking pretty bad right now they're beaten down they British have got more technology they have a superior Navy the Americans aren't as well trains as well drills uh I don't know I don't see this revolution working I think that they're probably going to end up losing but we'll see this video was made possible by brilliant Math and Science done right until the end of the video oh does he split them all up into two parts so he can do two sponsors that's so smart learn how you can get off the annual premium subscription and it makes up it makes sense because he does very few videos so if you have one subject and you split it up into two videos you can put two sponsors in there makes more sense so small Washington's butt was sufficiently kicked winter was here his troops morale was low some just up and left Washington needed to do something anything to restore faith in the revolution the British had spread throughout New Jersey and settled in for a winter of drinking side and partying hard nobody expected an attack and that's the only thing that you can do in New Jersey in the winter so Washington started making plans for an attack in the winter the British had hired a large force of hessan mercenaries from the German states of Hessa castle and hessah Hanah to fight the rebels it was do mercenaries like that still exist in this world the idea that you can just hire some people with with guns to just go out and do this I know that there's still like mercenary companies in theory but are they really used that much I guess Wagner was a mercenary company they were basically owned by the Russians right so is it is it really the same thing imagine just hiring German mercenaries to come out and and battle the Americans in my mind it just doesn't make any sense mercenaries that were stationed across the Delaware River from Washington and his army and there were more hessen reinforcements incoming but they made an unscheduled stop because their Commander got thirsty no not that kind of thirsty that kind of thirsty it was Christmas Eve with a blizzard outside when Washington heard the hessan defenses were down and he decided to attack he made a perilous crossing of the wait wait the subtitles hold on this is why I have the captions on again he decided to attack this wasn't read out it says again it's George Washington that was read out this is why I like having the captions on because there's little lizard leaster eggs in the captions decided to attack he made a perilous crossing of the icy Delaware River with 2,400 men and marched 9 Mi to Trenton where he caught the hesan forces completely off guard they don't have to follow the Geneva Convention what mercenaries why don't they want to follow the Geneva Convention I feel like it's probably a good idea to do just we'll just we'll just follow it you know why what is it that you want to do specifically that doesn't follow that mercenaries what spe what did you want that the Geneva Convention won't let you do through a short but fierce battle the hessin surrendered in droves it was a much-needed victory that sent a clear message not only to the British but to Americans across the colonies damn this is a really pretty painting there's a horse on that boat is this is this Chad is this real war was far from Lost General Cornwallis led the British forces sou to Counterattack the Americans but in a series of battles Washington's defensive positioning and flanking Maneuvers defeated the British three times in 10 days and the British decided to he did it again there another this little little bracket thing there's a taste of America for you he's gotting a little patriotic in the captions and the British decided to abandon Southern New Jersey for the rest of the winter Washington finally set up a winter camp in Morristown but for the Americans there was much less partying than the British elsewhere the British had taken Newport Road Island cuz it was a good naval base in the South they failed to take Charleston South Carolina which left British loyalists unsupported and vulnerable to more harassment and even Mass expulsion Congress sent Benjamin Franklin to France on a mission to convince them to join the war and while the French generally loved any opportunity to Hoodwink the Brits they didn't want to join unless it was a sure win that coward said that coward out and chasing T really Ben you're Chase it I mean that's what he does he was a he was horny he was a horny guy Parliament couldn't believe the war wasn't over yet and the pressure was on to end it so the British came up with a plan General bergo in Montreal and General William how in New York would Advance through the Hudson Valley and meet in the middle splitting the colonies in two and thus screwing over the American communication lines beroy began his movement South and after taking Fort tauga quite easily he then came across heavy American resistance so he sent how Dingle dongle asking if he'd be showing up in what what at whattime soon meanwhile Howard completely abandoned the plan and gone for all that personal Glory by capturing the American Capital Philadelphia he what damn you can't do that that would ruin everything you can't what are you doing how you stupid idiot heed Washington and his army at Brandy Wine Creek by using Brandy Wine Creek that's funny I love funny names of places with a oh they have their own flag now that's cool and flank him from behind T and Philadelphia was now in British hands oh he did never mind that was actually a good play forcing Congress to escape to York but beroy was left on his own to face the ever increasing American Force in Saratoga damn he did dis his friend like that I would never I would never ditch my friend if Dylan or Luke were fighting against the Americans well Dylan is American if Luke was out there and in his right C fighting against the Americans I would never abandon him like that for personal Glory I would never take my forces and go to Philadelphia to take over and leave Luke just out there by himself like that American General Horatio Gates teamed up with our old friend Benedict Arnold to deal one final blow to Bergin's Army Arnold wanted to take the fight to the British but Gates wanted to wait for the British to come to them after a heated debate Gates the senior officer told Arnold to go to his room but Arnold defied his orders and at the Battle of be's Heights he charged at the British and obliterated them great ratio by the way what happened to that other guy who was in Saratoga who Benedict Arnold never heard of him ouch yeah no wonder I saw some spoilers spoilers in the chat that said he betrayed the Americans yeah no wonder you get no glory hey George get no credit didn't I do a great job a good job yeah you did abandon your friends though and they're dead now both beroy and how returned to Great Britain leaving British general Henry Clinton to take charge of the war and the war was about to take a nasty turn because with the victory at Saratoga the French were finally ready to join the Americans all right Benny we're in hey isn't this kind of funny you know cuz you're a republic trying to overthrow an absolute monarchy and I'm an absolute monarchy helping you like like could you imagine if your Revolution inspired my people to revolt against me and then they and it never did me and all my family and they off could you imagine wouldn't that be really funny uh it never happened they're still in power to this day mhm that's foreshadowing for now in America Winter was here once again which meant yet more disease more starvation and even a little Mutiny after losing Philadelphia Washington's job was again on the line but suddenly a Persian guy with a very fancy name hired by Benjamin Franklin showed up out of nowhere and said hey I'm here to give your man a European military training and trained them he did they learned how to shoot accurately how to march in formation where to poop and where not to and strict punishments were handed out to any who didn't comply whoa okay this is a little may maybe he's enjoying that a little too much Washington's Army came out of the winter in 1778 a new and improved Force ready to take Philadelphia back from the British in the end though they didn't have to with the French entry into the War the British ordered General Clinton to evacuate Philadelphia and consolidate all of the British forces in New York so Washington sent Benedict Arnold to reoccupy and secure the city as he pursued the British through New Jersey on land eventually finding a good opportunity to attack at mammoth's Courthouse the battle took place on a seltering hot summer's day and as many soldiers died from heat stroke as they did from Battle that's the thing about wars especially back in these days that most of the people that died it was just other circumstances other than being shot or blown up or anything like that most people died in wars from disease disease was a big big big thing especially back then in the end after some incompetent SL borderline treason from Washington's second in command it was a draw and in this war a draw is kind of a victory for the Americans next up let's talk about this guy this is John Paul Jones John Paul Jones is handsome Scottish and absolutely insane when oh he squ war first broke out everyone was like how did the colonies expect to stand up to the might of the British Navy with their Meer Fleet of converted Merchant yeah try telling that to John Paul Jones this guy sailed to the British Isles somehow captured a British ship off the coast of Ireland and brought it back to France then he returned attacking more ships raiding towns and evading captur the entire time himself pirate tactics but hey if it works it works in one incident he captured a man you can't do that nowadays and that's what's not great about war in these days you can't just do you can't just become a pirate nowadays you can't just go in and doing random invasions CU then you get your picture taken and and and everyone knows who you are you get like texts sent around the country the news reports on you if you steal a ship like why can't you just doing some good oldfashioned piracy you know swash buckling steal a ship uh loot the plunder etc etc we need to bring that back British ship and return to a Dutch Port without an official end sign because his was lost during the battle that's a big no no and can have you arrested as a pirate the Dutch helped him out by quickly creating a design based on Benjamin Franklin's description of what the American flag should look like and they entered it into their records as an official US flag what they came up with looks pretty cool the whole campaign play heavily on British morale and brought into question their ability to win the war and fun fact he was so cool that one of the towns he rated in 1778 gave him an official honorary pardon in 199 one of them keep ripping in heaven John Paul Jones you're an angel damn I want to I want to play a game based on him where you just raid the British Isles and you steal ships and stuff like that we it' be like an Assassin's Creed Black Flag Style game except it would be yeah that would be sick man what the Continental Navy was lacking in resources though the French entry into the war made up for the French began with Naval skirmishes in the English Channel and they sent a large Fleet to America okay the old French flag sucked let's be honest the current one it's not much to look at but it's much better than this though it sustained a lot of damage in a storm off Rhode Island The Americans were hoping for a bigger commitment from the French so John Adams went to France to help Benjamin Franklin continue negotiations oh good you're finally here check this out hey ladies I'd like to fly you like a kite cuz you're electrifying isn't this great is this doing a great job is this what you've been doing he's so horny stop being horny Ben why we were sent here on a diplomatic mission to secure military support from France not to fander with the locals wait but if you have time on the side you know there's going to be evenings where you're a little lonely might as well be a little no it's okay it's all right worst wingman ever but the Americans would get get some more help the Dutch provided Aid although they never formed an official Alliance more significantly though the Spanish who had already been providing Aid officially joined the war in June 1779 they were what against the British oh this is getting to be a little unfair guys I feel like we're just trying to knock Britain down a peg because they're jealous France and Spain are just jealous and now they're jumping on the bandwagon now that it's popular to fight against the British just because they're posers they're you know what they are they are posers and quite frankly it's sad to see provides support in the Midwest and the Gulf Coast campaigns that heavily impacted the Native American tribes in those areas both sides actually Enlisted the help of Native American tribes throughout the war and treated them terribly sometimes even pitting those tribes against each other in the summer of 1779 after a series of raids against the Americans by the iroy Washington organized an expedition that burned down more than 40 Villages forcing the tribes to relocate to Canada for British protection and another group that shouldn't go unmentioned were African-Americans both free and enslaved they joined both sides of the war hoping to gain their freedom but afterwards many were simply returned to slavery particularly those who had fought for the Americans Des earning slaves himself Jefferson had written a condemnation of slavery in the Declaration of Independence but out of fear of offending the southern colonies this was removed from the final draft oh my God those snowflakes those southern colony snowflakes were so oh they were so so sad someone said don't do slavery it's bad those little snowflakes don't tell us not to do slavery we like doing slavery so much I'm going to cry please stop it for the same reason the American Army stopped enlisting African-American men in 1775 a policy that Washington a slave owner himself supported but they were forced to reverse the policy after the British promised freedom to any slaves who joined them in general you stood a better chance of gaining Freedom if you fought for the British however even those that left with the British after the war suffered mistreatment and discrimination in their new lives outside of America our good friend Benedict Arnold is now in charge of Philadelphia having with and even marrying a member of the Philadelphia Elite Peggy shien Peggy Shi the same Elite that had partied down with the British when they controlled the city and suddenly the people of Philadelphia including the state Governor started accusing Arnold of having Pro British sentiments to keep the people happy Washington wrote a letter rebuking Arnold calling his conduct imprudent and improper and that was too many ouchies for Benedict Arnold to handle he asked Washington you tried declaring independence copper rise is unnecessary okay I get that it was probably necessary but you don't have to defend it you don't have to write out the comment defending like oh no it's actually okay you can just not write that comment put him in charge of the fort at West Point then he contacted the British offering to hand the plans of the fort over to them and join their side our good friend Benedict Arnold is our good friend no more Lu a traitor plans were discovered on a captured British officer but Arnold managed to escape before he was arrested as a British Brigadier General he would go into to lead raids his actions are totally justified you're still going man it's it's okay you don't have to type the comments what you can do is like not type them and it's it's completely okay American cities most notably his rate of Richmond Virginia in 1781 his betrayal shook George Washington who had once again set up camp at moristown his leadership somehow held the Continental Army together through the harshest winter of the war we're entering 1780 and Parliament was hopping mad that the war still wasn't over the British debt was soaring and despite taking parts of Massachusetts in late 1779 the north was in a stalemate so the British decided to make what is St my silence is just another word for my pain Benedict Arnold shift in King George 3 liked a page King George 3 fans I bet there's no one on that page to the South an economically Rich area with a higher level of support for the British or so the British thought a year earlier they had captured the under defended city of Savannah Georgia easily and a joint American French counter Siege failed now they laid Siege to Charleston South Carolina it fell within months with thousands of American troops surrendering to the British a costly defeat sounds like things are starting to turn on the head a little bit the British quickly moved to take control and they sent stereotypical Hollywood villain with a British accent banister the butcher Tarlton into the back country where he hunted down S I know yeah it's banister the butcher yes I I think we have to send him who who who are you sending we're sending banister the butcher hello Mate A banister The Butcher and destroyed them with ruthless brutality the British presence also inspired local loyalist militias in the back country to rise up against their persecutors the British really a lot of taring and theing happen happening recently be onto something with their new strategy and the bow was very much in Washington Court I'm going to send my most loyal General Nathaniel Green to the South to stop the British going to have to overrule you there George we're sending hero of Saratoga and your biggest rival Horatio Gates watch okay well they both look the same so I don't think it really matters George I'm going to save the day again everybody will love me and I'm going to get your job here I go and he got into one battle with corn Wallace got annihilated and ran away damn Nathaniel Green knew the British outnumbered his own forces and wouldn't be defeated with conventional tactics so he had to think outside the box he split his army into two said Hey Big Boy look at me and then they went running in two different directions Cornwallis sent Tarlton after Morgan and he caught up with him at Cowpens where Morgan proceeded to kick tarlton's butt then the two LED Cornwallis on a wild Chase through North Carolina his bigger and better equipped Army much heavier and slower than Green's quick and mobile troops green LED Cornwallis further and further from his supply line then crossed the Dan River into Virginia picked up some reinforcements and turned back to face the now he got big so this is like when Mario gets a mushroom for those of you that are trying to figure this out in your head exhausted British at the Battle of Guilford courthouse the two sides engaged in vicious close combat Cornwallis fearing loss fired his big guns into the chaotic fighting cutting down many of his own men green retreated giving Cornwall the victory but dude he didn't get the BFF man you're always in supposed to invest in the technology that turns off friendly fire before you artillery your own men this is EAS this is simple this is like easy strategic Tactics come on and if you're going to artillery your own men you have to at least like try and miss them you have to give the impression that you're trying to miss them but you have to invest in the technology first it's an early stage technology it's really easy again Wallace lost a quarter of his men in the fighting so it felt much more like a British defeat at this point both sides desperately needed something to happen soon to end the fighting the British were running out of money while the Americans were again facing mutinies as the men went without pay or even basic living needs fortunately the French were now showing up in greater numbers and were ready to fight after his encoun sounds like the America owed the French a lot with green Cornwallis decided the only way to win The South was to First prevent the continental army from using Virginia as a supply base so he abandoned the Carolinas moving to Wilmington and onto Yorktown a position the British believed would be easy to supply and support on his march to Yorktown he raided many farms stealing horses and supplies from the locals but also freeing thousands of slaves many of whom joined him the French saw corn wales's new stealing horses and freeing slaves stealing horses is cool and awesome freeing slaves is cool and awesome stealing horses from local farmers that need them not so cool but also looks kind of cool like if you just get on a horse and just ride away into the sun that looks cool position as an opportunity to land a decisive blow on the British Washington wanted to attack Clinton in New York but the friend said it was a really dumb idea and to be fair it was instead Washington sent out fake dispatches to make it look like they would attack Clinton but secretly their combined Force marched all the way down to Virginia a large french Fleet under the command oh they're getting followed by French people do you think they know of comp degrass arrived and successfully cleared the British Navy out of the Chesapeake Bay the combined land and Naval forces then laid Siege to Corn Wallace's Army in Yorktown the American and French forces tightened in around the city reigning artillery down on forn Wallace who fellas this is looking too good appealed to Clinton for aid but Clinton was unusually chilled out about the whole thing Cornwallis held out for nearly a month before he had no choice but to surrender over 7,000 British troops were Capt 7,000 rushing defeat and with that Parliament had reached the end of its rope the war just was again those are pretty those are pretty small numbers I get that in the comparison of like back then there was many many many fewer there weren't even a billion people on the planet at that point so it wasn't that many but uh you know when you go and look at Wars that are fought not even nowadays but around the same time there was a lot more people in the battles this was quite a a small War I don't think that the British sent too many people over though they would have rather kept the colonies it seemed like it was more trouble than it was worth these these freaking Americans are causing so much trouble it's not worth to to keep they're so far away dude and and they're draining the French dry oh all the money that was being spent on War wasn't worth it and it needed to end now the British still held New York Charleston and Savannah but fighting between the two sides mostly ceased as peace negotiations opened up in Paris the resulting treaty in 1783 saw Great Britain remove its troops from American soil recognize us independence and Seed territory up to the Mississippi River in return just so much land you don't need all that land the Americans agreed to pay any debts to load to Britain and gave fair treatment to any colonists who had remained loyal to the crown the Spanish got Florida while the French got an economic crisis that led to its own Revolution a decade later later yeah oh man the French really got the the bad end of the stick there retired to his home in Mount Vernon wishing his men Farewell by saying I most devoutly wish that your latter days may be as prosperous and happy as your former ones have been glorious and honorable he hoped to live out the rest of his days in peace but unfortunately for him a number of people wanted him to be the first leader of the new country and by a number of people I mean literally everyone the first election campaign in American history was basically a Grassroots effort to convince Washington to accept the office he was sworn in on April 30th 1789 and he himself established many of the standards and limitations of what the American leader should be first of using campaign FS to pay on mistress hush money hold on what there was debate on what he should be called is he a king is he our glorious leader in the end they went for a word that at the time was pretty modest president like like school class president or president of the chesh club president of your local bullying club or office bake sale committee he set up a cabinet of expert advisers knowing that no president could know everything no matter how much of a stable genius they claimed to be he proposed legation to Congress and gave an annual State of the Union Address to keep his own power in check he stated that the US should remain neutral in foreign conflicts and in the end he voluntarily gave up his power after just two terms he could have made the presidency anything he wanted but his careful and cautious actions helped set the precedent of an office that is powerful in its limitations decisive through its diplomacy and respected in its humility and it's crazy how much this one person changed the course of history like if he had just taken more power absolute power things would be so different the leaders would have been different you would have had the same leaders the entirety of History would have been different the wars would have come out differently maybe World War I and World War II would have went a lot differently depending on the people that were in power and the powers that they had I who knows just this one guy who was like I'm going to be humble and it it set the stage for hundreds of years of things that would happen so the United States was born and everything was perfect it had no problems not a single one certainly nothing that would I don't know cause such an extreme divide that it would lead to a civil war mhm Y and and it was all happily ever after the most American thing you can think of burger baseball B of an America only Sports tournament world champions or maybe big burger wait what math and science no that's right if you didn't know oh is this
