he was uh four years old first time I started taking him up to it was in Shea Stadium he was out there diving and catching balls I started thinking to myself I said normal five-year-old does not do stuff like this I loved being in the locker room at the field so I would go there every single day he got to go there and see the way they worked and what they did to prepare themselves you know for the game put in that extra work and stuff that people don't see and so when I'm here now I know that I can never be satisfied with where I'm at before he was a Super Bowl MVP or upsetting records at Texas Tech Mahomes was a White House Wildcat here in East Texas Flyers have caught touchdown White House that's when you saw the light come on in him up there's nothing like playing quarterback nothing I can get on the mound and I can pitch and you know and do great things like Dad did but there's nothing like being a quarterback and leading these men down into the end zone that's when I saw like he he has a love for this I remember coming home owner from a recruit visit with Texas and they were them as safety and I was telling him I said why don't we just quit this and let's just concentrate on the other two I said we're just wasting the time with this football thing and uh he said Dad I want to be out there with my teammates I want to be out there with the guys I've been playing with whatever and I couldn't see myself in the stands watching them and luckily he didn't listen to me uh it was it was really exciting to finally get to say a committed to Texas Tech I mean I love the coaching staff there and I got to get my mom and my dad up there this time and everybody saw it so they all liked it a lot and I liked it a lot both times I went and it was just really to kind of get that uh commitment done it's very first series he had to fumble and interception on the same place I've never seen before flips it out Dan dangerously and was it intercepted it was after that you kind of see it quick okay here we go you could tell he was never coming off the field he'll just uncork it into the end zone he has extreme ability extreme on talent and I think he has High football IQ it can be a little mad scientist IQ because he will try things that you just can't try but as I've done enough yeah it makes plays off schedule yes way off schedule wide open what a play yet he was trying to cover for the single worst defense in all of college football last most yards allowed most points allowed Texas Tech eyes downfield there's Mixon he will take it Mayfield sets he will run long hits Westbrook again has a block from Reed as a Texas Tech touchdown what a stag his own best win perfectly thrown I mean this PlayStation stats that's the sort of thing that you expect maybe when a game goes in overtime because of the rules and get more touchdowns and extended games instead of playing time just ridiculous which quarterback do you think is going to have the steepest learning curve once they get into the pros I think Patrick Mahomes um just with the offense that he ran and the terminology being able to spit out the place you know I mean I mean the terminology in the NFL answer this for me when I hear words about Patton Holmes these are the words I hear undisciplined lacking fundamentals immature these are things you hear about him projects quarterbacks is the only one they'll take a project they'll send him away oh he's two years away two years away and you pay them five six million dollars a year for two years away what's the best piece of advice you've been given leading up to the draft I mean just just be ready for anything team that you think's gonna draft you probably won't get you so I mean that's the best piece of advice for me I'm not going to be set on one team I'm hoping to draft me I'm just gonna be out there ready just for whatever situation and try to and try to be ready for them to make the best of that with the 10th pick in the 2017 NFL draft the Kansas City Chiefs select Patrick Mahomes is second quarterback it is Patrick Mahoney's the second not to Sean Watson that was the Apple if you're the Chiefs and you're that close why are you drafting a quarterback why are you trading up to draft the quarterback that doesn't just have bad footwork has no footwork being a competitor being in the NFL like quarterback I mean you want to play be out there playing but uh for me having that guy like Alex in front of me who was a great guy who did all the right things and was a true professional helped me learn how to kind of prep and have a lot of success in the NFL I have an Alex man I'll I'll forever say it man it probably made my game jump uh three steps um when it when I could have took three years to get those three steps the anticipated debut of Patrick Mahomes they traded up to get him in the first round with the 10th pick overall gonna run for it diving through the pylon and Patrick Mahomes has his first career NFL touchdown how much has he learned from Alex Smith can he execute this offense can he get under Center something he didn't do in college at all in the wrong way and still has the armed strength to hit Demarcus Robinson what a remarkable two-minute drive by Patrick Mahomes the Chiefs are trading quarterback Alex Smith to the Redskins so that means Patrick Mahomes is expected to take the top spot I wish him the best but also God bless that fact that he's not the quarterback for my team anymore the Mahomes era has begun Patrick Mahomes with another dime in that first start in 2018 he threw from four touchdowns and zero interceptions that was his introduction to the NFL world four touchdowns and zero interception he is outstanding and there's nothing that we figured out that he can't do well he's trying to keep the Play Alive [Applause] Here Comes Von Miller oh how did he pull that off snap to Mahomes at his belt sidestepping Fires for the ends on the pass is core touchdown chance City Patrick a Kansas City Chiefs record 31 touchdowns in a single season breaking the record of Lenny the cool Dawson 55 years ago look at the magic of the quarterback just come on moving around dancing and then throws it like almost no luck Jason after him for homes in trouble flings it across his body an amazing play by the Chiefs winds it up wide open as hell how quick was that the homes throws it for the touchdown unbelievable to Demarcus Robinson but Patrick Mahomes as you said Trent touchdown number 50 on the season and he goes past 5 000 yards and the best basketball he's electric and tries to get in and I believe he did as the official no question about it [Applause] for the third straight year Mahomes never saw the football in overtime start to walk out and he's there waiting he said hey just keep doing it how you're doing you're doing it the right way and as a Young quarterback when the goat's saying that and he's saying you're doing it the right way it shows you that you are doing it the right way they are one of the favorites to win the whole thing this year and that's thanks in large part to what they have going at the quarterback Position will fire that hit his man at the 40. oh look out Sammy Watkins ten five touchdown and this is why he's the best quarterback I don't think there's any arguing anymore there's nothing else to do either we can't even have a real people stretching we can have no argument we can have no disagreement 15 for the Kansas City Patrick Mahomes is the best quarterback in football he's flushed out again turning the corner fires down field touchdown only in the homes there have been very very few people in NFL history that plays the position of quarterback that can do what he does now Mahomes and that makes him nine for ten in that category and it was the right knee in a lot of pain and I I remember being on the ground and just looking at it and my kneecap was in the side of my calf I ended up having to sit out for like two weeks but uh they made me sit out I was at practice on Wednesday the next week so I was I was trying to get back in there but you know the team was trying to be smart and this is precautionary about it it's incredible to think just three weeks after dislocating that right kneecap Patrick Mahomes out here and as he told us he's completely pain-free he actually said he could have played last week but the doctors wanted to give it a little bit more time he said he made all the throws in practice it [Applause] [Music] the Chiefs win the Chiefs will be the two seed they'll get the buy and they'll have a home game the next weekend 24 to nothing Texans now the Chiefs just need to settle down you know everybody's been jittery I mean you guys obviously don't feel like you're ever out of a game no and I think the biggest thing is uh we've played in a lot of different football games now especially this season and we found ways to win in all those games [Applause] they do something special no one [Music] Mahomes down the field for the touchdown Mahomes averages 308 passing yards per game for his career no one ever is within 25 yards of that this team was built to slow down Kansas City so if Mahomes is going to put up five touchdowns against that now what works that's how dominant the Kansas City Chiefs have been with Patrick Mahomes as quarterback remember guys there was no maturation process there was no need from for growth expended actually shoveling inside the Celtic touchdown I'll say it again the most complete team in football hey we don't let up hey no let up at all we energy all day all day from the time we watched him take a snap for the Kansas City Chiefs he was the best quarterback in football my homes with time sidearms and Demarcus Robinson Corner round come on touchdown Kansas City go round Boy the boy is good the boy is good to continue with uh Coming to America references and yeah he would be he's fantastic at everything he is outstanding and there's nothing that we figured out that he can't do well he does everything exceptionally well against the blitz against pressure he's better than most everyone else he runs the ball well he's accurate he throws on and off platform [Applause] with a touchdown come back touchdown touchdown when we stop saying that other quarterbacks are as good as Patrick Mahomes the standard level is so ridiculous ridiculously high that we're in danger of just glossing over that the Kansas City Chiefs are the one seed in the AFC playoffs for the 2020. and and they they did a good job of rallying to the football and making tackles find a way find a way find a way oh to sit up there and watch him Scramble for his life to have to be held to nine points for the Kansas City Chiefs offense to not even get in the end zone it was an absolute positive beat down worse than I think I've been beaten in a long time let's go Sunday Sunnyside um but I'm probably the guys now they fought to the very end thing in the game one last indignity hey you're a legend man congrats man you're a legend you're amazing man yeah yeah for sure and there comes the fourth lead at the 44-yard line he's broken Patrick Mahomes is broken and he's broken because he's the same as he's always been but that's no longer good enough through his hands and a diving interception but right now he is part of the problem absolutely that's on Patrick Holmes he has to he has to just let's play some small world we are not used to seeing this from Patrick Mahomes last year he had six interceptions and over 580 pass attempts this year through six games he's already at eight which is tied with rookie Trevor Lawrence for second most [Music] intercepted Micah Hyde's Gonna Take It To The End Zone nothing is working for the Chiefs loses the football Tennessee has got it I want to win I mean that's that's the end of the day I want to win I I just want to win in whatever that takes I'm going to try to do and I'll look at this film learn from it um and try to come out better uh this week find some space whenever you have a fighting chance I mean it has to be if you want to be great um if you want to be a part of a great team you have to believe that he said that final whistle blows uh that you have a chance to go out there and win the football game on the 30th of October they were given a six percent chance to win the division but the six gets flipped because now the Kansas City Chiefs have a 100 percent chance of winning the AFC West [Applause] Kelsey still going Kelsey good night touchdown Chiefs winning they've done it for a sixth consecutive year that has never happened getting back to 1960. the Chiefs reached the end zone so many times fan of this game forever and coached it for 30 years never ever in my life have I seen a better game and to me it's like it's crazy I know we're going to talk about the mistakes that were made but did I just witness the takeovers Josh Allen took that game over and then it felt like Patrick Mahon told everybody hold on can't believe it they got it defense got beaten up like that to this point here's Hill there's enough chance play it like that that steam is open let's go right away right now someone in the middle down the middle oh my goodness it's going to be a 48-yard attempt Patrick Mahone sold everybody I'm still on the top of the throne and I think that's what we witnessed at the end of that game and into overtime [Music] all right here it is [Applause] oh boy and the margin is I was supposed to throw the ball away I got great I got a little greedy there and try to give the Tariq and get a touchdown that two people out there this game is tied 11 points in two minutes and 40 seconds and Cincinnati storms back um it's definitely disappointing I mean here um with this group of guys that we have we expect to be in that game and to win that game and anything less than that is is not success um so we'll go back and look at all the things we did well the adversity we battled through the better the team that we became towards the end of the season they go deep down the field and it is intercepted on the rebound by Bell um and try to learn and try to learn from the mistakes that we made and try to be better next year are trading Tyreke to the Dolphins for five picks do the Chiefs have the team to make it back to the Super Bowl no they don't they have by Far and Away the most challenging schedule this is the time when the Chiefs are in rebuild mode every other team basically got better and the Chiefs got worse I don't know if Patrick Mahomes is going to be the same quarterback that we've watched kind of the whole off-season everybody's asked us the questions of what this offense what this team's gonna look like and uh we we've always believed that we're gonna go out there and put on the show and I thought you guys did that we lost it to the end zone and it is caught Mike shoveling inside Edwards touchdown I don't think it's right to compare other quarterbacks to him everyone else is fighting to see who should be compared to Patrick Mahomes at ladies got sitting atop this division was threatened well my home's firing right side Patrick when he got it in there the Chiefs have a three-game lead over the Chargers who they just swept last Holmes Crossing Kansas City where it belongs yeah I don't know is this thing still called Arrowhead what does it sound like out there yeah in the 2022 AP most valuable player is Patrick Mahomes [Applause] the Holmes There are clips in here that you don’t see often and it’s put together in a way that makes some of it feel new, even though we all know the story.

Great clip! Honestly dont watch much of things we already did, but everything i saw just now had me cheering at my phone going down memory lane. Like those big bear hugs by my dad when we won our super bowls. Two of the greatest hugs i’ll ever have in my life, just from shared elation. Thats what sports are for.
