Pallet education: Types, Differences and grading

hi there my name is Chris and I'm a senior manager at Durham pallet services in Whitby today I'm going to give you an inside look at the world of pallets come follow me [Music] not all recycled pallets are the same and can be made from different raw materials however the industry standard size is 48 inches by 40 inches use pallets can be created into two popular categories great ones and grade two they can be made from either hardwood or softwood the different headings come from the condition of the pallet and whether or not it had a stringer component repair grade one this palette has three good clean stringers any talk deck boards that are severely cracked or broken will be removed and replaced with a quality piece of recycled board to match the palette being repaired the number of top deck boards varies from 7 to none great to if the stringers are cracked or broken they're repaired by placing a block or plug or the entire stringer tight up against the cracked or broken area on the inside of the pallet the new piece is then nailed in place to reinforce the cracked or broken stringer resulting in double stringers poor way palates are comprised of a handful of basic elements top deck boards stringers or stringer boards and blocks and bottom deck boards in the case of stringer pallets the stringers are not to allow for forklift entry these are known as partial four way entry palates when constructed with blocks the palate is known as a true four way entry palate and can be entered from either end and both sides by both a forklift truck as well as a powered power jack making the right choice for your pallet needs is critical to every aspect of your business deciding between a partial four-way pallet or a full four way pallet is a critical decision many people do not understand the difference between partial 4-way pallets and full four-way pallets but there is a difference to the untrained eye a pallet is just a pallet your fourth step in making the right choice for your business is to understand the difference between these two options what's the difference between a pallet and a skid let's start with the pallet pellets have both a top and bottom deck which provides more stability than skins a pallet consists of three to four stringers this allows for support of multiple deck boards and the materials being placed on top of the pallet as for skids a skid resembles a pallet in many ways however a skid has no bottom deck board it is a single deck floating platform as you can see from these examples they look similar from the top but as we flip them over they are quite different so in summary the main difference between a pallet and a skid is their construction which affects how each of them function pellets have top and bottom deck boards which allow for more stability on the other hand skids do not have both boards which allows for more mobility they are easily moved by using a forklift front loader a jacking device or other heavy machinery and that is a very simplistic way to describe the difference and we hope you have gained some clarity today as always thanks for watching and please like and subscribe to our You Tube channel and don't forget to follow us on our social media
