hi so Watson is a radiator painted straight on the wall with the heat resistive ink now I've done this because I know quite a few people want to look at this as an idea of being a business so there is the wall radiator now that particular one is 2.4 by 1.2 I'll go stand next to it so you get an idea of scale there yup now it's being controlled by this thing here that thing is just a standard controller that I got off the shelf and for this kind of electrical heater it's an underfloor heating pad the radiator is painted on a piece of plaster board and covered with plastic to protect you from the dangers of the electricity but it's painted straight on the wall now the rest of this video is actually quite long because there's a step-by-step instruction video about how to go about making that radiator now that really had two heats up in seconds I'm not sure how long because by the time I turn it on and got my thermometer it was up to temperature it's a point eight kilowatt radiator it draws three amps on a 230 volt supply and it will heat up to about sixty degrees maximum it's currently running at 20 degrees actually 28 degrees I've set the thing to read the room temperature because that controller load the read to the board temperature of the room temperature and I'm going to use that as my sole source of heating for my warehouse which is pretty big and pretty cold and as you can see in them I'm in my shirt sleeves again and it's quite comfortable and quite warm and not drawing a huge amount of power now the controller actually has an energy monitor in it so I shall take some energy readings later on in the week or next week and probably do a feedback on how much energy that thing is actually consuming now I put it onto the wall covered in this protective plastic but you could cover that in anything you could cover that entire in word another layer of plaster board anything really also it doesn't really need to go onto the wall you can put it onto the floor just as happily as you could put it onto the wall you don't even need to print it directly to the wall if you wanted you could paint it on plastic all ready to unroll when you go in and do an installation but there it is and I'm going to talk through how to actually make it through the rest of the video so that people would be asking me how to do so quite a while actually whatever you do is a wall-sized red letter he was a student so we need you half of the users today is some cocktail and that will form your contacts so master dead make whatever pretty what one reviews a lot of designers and happens whether you conceive solid blocks and imaging for that I'm going to do the other because it's actually more efficient that the heat distribution work which is attacked and master awful every time I roll event on link but the last thing you need is this this he keep control now this one I got from may look like Christmas star before underfloor heating maps so it's a digital controller it's quite expensive this one's after sixty pounds but you can use anything job and is it also a flow so you don't like to go quite as high a business inside the box you've got back from controlling unit with its connections which I'll show you that a bit more closer and then the important bit is this bit here this is actually the thermocouple the thermocouple is the vivid control see electricity going to lead depending on how hot we need to get and obviously we set the controller to the temperature what now only compressing the whole what you have to do is bless it somewhere in the middle of your heating area so that it picks up the average heat now I want roundabout here I prepared this before all it is she crying or rockwall possible or everyone T Corbett it's a she'd roof and what 1/2 meter by two point four meter John Wall screw back to the wall to make a representation of the wall it could actually detect expect on the brick if you want you can bend it on good in Europe if you want or you can pendulum must applaud like Annika do a right next to the pasta goal here I put a little box on the wall because my thermocouple is going to commercial from our plastic it box they feed while going to box and then control box the first thing they design what one of the geniuses at be stories about him whoa don't get the sample of actives drill hole under another hole and put something in there that's quite stiff Effendi so I can attach the water or through to my box now you can borrow it pieces like this and they call politicians have to go it's through and you look at the thermocouple there will be a totally ball that the end of it is covered in rubber that's the sensor element the rest is just a wire so what we want to do is the the sensor sticking here and the wire here so you attach this your book and this book through that's our thermocouple didn't work in but this will then be cut off I put into that now I'm loose on the surface of the wall so you can actually see it in seal machinations in that species and how you do it but there's no reason to do it over the surface particularly you could actually get behind the ball suddenly got a drywall he took from behind you when Detective do all the setup before you put the unit on there if you want to figure that just unit you always have to think the care but still you know confident about feeding then getting electrician defeated for you and also you've got that lattice that we're going to put it just below the surface of the ball because all to my slap surface we want to put it just lower you don't need but it just devour you can put it out any way you like you don't mind it show but I just fill out so what's a position warrant is first know so I'm just in general just that goes in nicely extensive platters so there will be just above the surface they want a composition like that honey I'm going to draw because it's quite deep when that dries it will sink in a little bit so we refill it and then give it a light Sun when I've done that I'll get back here so here is the cohort the sensor and it's just below the surface it's in timing it of filler slight black mark potential sensor is now this sentence it just by this particular part of the wall heater and you need to forget what you see when you Sun's up something's do not the sudden descent to that it's literally just below the surface that is where you wanted now I've done here is obviously a peacock attach these top tips incidentally I'm 5 metres long by 5 meters long one one centimeter wide and when you apply them you two buttons one continuous strip this stupid for me to soak a bit left over but nothing will be tempted use that because I'm sorry make sure that you do a warm continuous strip in exacting work that much better the way to do it is just marked out the place that you want to go these sections around about 400 to 600 memories don't go big with the 600 make London important wanting meters across and even with the decks to make your massive leads across across but I got to one down where that 50 centimeters will be but on deployment and flooding and then smooth it down then when you serve it down you'll see little brittle brothers singles out with a cloth with your hands back of your finger do that job and continue down until you've got to say or word out for now you need to be essentially take about 15 five sentences long water to make connections when we've gotten any connection looking close the flaps you can see like the Dead Sea how to connect both your also this is at the Box section here what I'm going to see the film from the walk through the third of the water chute box when I was about this gray this gray wire support partly due to program it's the standard you care all you can reserve this now that will differ depending wrong but you need to supply with cables gonna take what a normal plug socket take so this already take 30 amps no problem at all that's ready for at ease with my charm this is for ringing now take the cable from the box and we have missed the front wall and rotten floor and engine see back in action later laughter make an action of the easy unit to control later no tears and then put on masking tape to form the pattern panels Japan so I'm going to do that and then go back to you so there this all nicely laid out with its copper finally drew the leeches so we're having a look at the bottom of this now and as you can see this is the gap between the wall and the floor and all walls and floors have gaps into the done you're going to have to cut one but there's the gap and here's the cable that I dropped out from the control box which was this great here'll when you cut into that gray cable and peel it back when you get a three wires you get a blue a brown and a while with no insulation the brown in the UK is the live wire the blue in the UK is the neutral wire and this one without any insulation is the earth now it's going to change depending on where you're from so you'll have to check the code to save you're not comfortable with this you should be getting light pushing to do it but if you are comfortable with it it's fairly simple it's color to color now what we've got here is our strip that we put up the side coming down to the bottom here's the last piece of masking tape the first heater bar will be here and the Vino here to bar here so what we need to do is make a good firm connection to that now how we're going to do that is clamp it down so I've got here a small clump and I've folded back that copper and laid it over one over the other to make actually quite a thick copper connection now I put a clump plate on that that should clamp everything down rather nicely but it's also going to allow me to attach my wire on there so I'll wind the wire one round and screw everything down and that's what we're going to do now now I've made sure that behind this is a piece of wood so that when I screw into that it's going to screw into the wood and there we go that's our electrical connection and that will cover over when we put the skirting board on and I'm going to do that to the other two now the other two are neutrals because I've connected both this up to the both up to the line the two edge plates I'll be connecting to the neutral so this blue wire will go to one of them and I'll do a connecting wire between the phone both of those to make the neutral connections there after we've done everything in need and it all up there are the connections that's the farm so there isn't actually an earth with this all you do is wind up the earth cover it with Earth's truth which is this stuff here and fix it down some with somewhere firmly because there is actually no earth with the suppose it's very reasonable it does connections first with it does connection first because we're going to need the implementing resistance when the amount of power that this single pole is equal to enacted is directly related to the amount of resistance that it has what you painted it if you can resistance R and R 10 ohms or so it's going to pull up 15 yards it's enormous your earrings over 50 to 100 oh this is what you want when you get me to about there it's been a four hundred kilowatts or so and about farthest examples so that's what you're aiming for there obviously you do that systems to revive the thing and the other end comes out here we straight back back then expert online neutral that we can take our resistance rating from there now it's likely to give me two or three cards and again it's going to be dependent on local traditions like what you put now it's like anything put in the core services you're going to get a fork jump you need a good grab be informative the surfing if you play three that kind of thing just what repentance servicescape actually meant to be good stuff that you get in the surface is very absorbent is opportunity so fight a lot in there - that's the pen - coz you might want to see them first is some type of seal before then so just bear in mind the general stuff that you did when it became something it's already going now is painted wall to finish put masking tape robots make sure that the mast antennas on system down there won't be a drug dealer dependent so you take asleep open import something on applying of the product you can apply with a brush but think about this break up any of the method that you want and you mentally wrote on it be sure to cover the car once you've rolled it on give it couple hours strong test the resistance in your in the region of elegy all right if not given another coat went through to drive test resistance we're going to go to existence you're happy with round we're home phones also really release to our balance testing resistance again and then you anyway I'm just going to pay the rest of this and then get back to here it is all finished and with the masking tape remove now I think it's like life configuration actually has a better overall performance in terms of evenness eating yeah do it like this and just do a block color that goes thicker and it will eat just slightly hotter at the bottom cycle so now I'm used about 25 milliliters of that week to do this then there was a slight problem that the ink is actually serve inductive effect that really dried out and washing it off because it was just too productive remember at the end for a particular bone we found you in order to get a relatively even voltage drop across it so there would be put your voltage through it then you get the effect that you want have drugs power versus amount of time 65 bones with this structure which is pretty phenomenal and that means is going to draw about three ounces when we give up a to the kilowatts that that's a fact and at this stage now obviously the kind of handsome power draw will depend on your body of your country so the u.s. is 110 if inflation change the kind of power due to the system you carry front of 230 you can calculate that really really easily you can use the DC calculators they give you a guide on to whatever monthly before because because we all possess current that AC is slightly different and the DC current uses resistance AC current using people's an impedance is gonna be decimated using DC resistance they're just garlic's guys don't write back to me telling me all about this that just guides to help you to get you it around about thickets now all we're going to do now obviously is why the thinning so let's have plus a look at a couple throwers and controller computers so in terms of controllers for this thing you've actually got quite a large selection ranging from this thing which is a rheostat potentiometer controlled pulse width modulator for a small power circuit usually for something like a toaster and you buy them as a board actually and they just have a connection point for your wires which directly from your mains are live in a neutral you wouldn't put it directly into the engine actually put it into a plug so that you've got arm a way of moving it around plugging in and out so you've got protection from the fuse that comes with the plugin you can switch it off because normally plugs are switched so those are really cheap boards kind of in the order of a pound or two you want to take a step up from that then you've got this kind of thing this is the pit controller again it comes to kicking it comes a kit of three parts you have this which is silicon controlled rectifier for high voltage and this stitch is you've done a couple of your sensor now you put this in the same place and put the other sensor is exact the same thing and it wires into the controller the back of the controller the controller gets wired into this and this basically Center this sends a signal to this the turning off and on which is how you can control the electricity so you can use a little pin kit like and that was about 20 pounds now because I'm doing kind of a wall demonstration and we're thinking about something for the home that's what I rent for the benefit of this thing is it's astonishingly simple if you look at the back of it then it gives you all the directions that you need to know so there's a whole load of little pins at the back here and they're painted and leveled up so your supply goes in there your load goes in there it's an X by that side to put nothing into it and that's why your thermocouple goes in there so you literally ticklers while I swap them in and tighten them down and you're done so that was actually quite expensive that's about 60 pounds for that particular thing and the only reason I went for it because it looks pretty it dirt simple to do and anybody who wants to do something like this well just got for one of these and wire it in according to the instruction booklet that it comes with anyway yes sir that's the kind of variety that's available to you four controllers of this thing so here is winding exactly as its how it says as a neutral mouth on the supplier alive from the supply the earth has been connected to this earth with the crimp these seas account as permanent connections then we've got our unit which is these two slightly thicker wires neutral connector it should live connector it should and then it says sensor here which is our thermocouple and it's so helpful it tells you black and white and there's the sensor that has been trimmed off then you just pop them into the little holes and screw it down and just make sure that's firmly attached fold the whole lot up and put it in place now a word to the wise I actually bothered to take my electricians qualification years ago because I knew that this would be something that I would want to do so I bother to do it now in the United Kingdom you're not allowed to do anything to house electrics unless you are a qualified electrician now this particular thing has been done via a plug and it's going to go into the socket right next to the unit that you can see what that means is it qualifies as an appliance a homemade appliance see you're sort of sidestepping the regulations there however you should not be doing this unless you're comfortable with electrics you're not comfortable house electrics don't attempt it now that's a warning of safety for you and ask covering for me if you do this and blow electrics and come looking for somebody to blame don't blame me I've warned you don't do it if you aren't confident and competent at doing it you do it of your own volition then this has been a demonstration for edgy look educational purposes only anyway let's move on okay there it is all connected up closed up and ready to go incidentally here's a fine example of the kind of thing you think about when you used to doing this stuff you often forget to mention because it's just second nature if you remember this cable that you just go straight into the box now it's got a plug on the end of it so because somebody could come along and tub that cable if that took that careful hard enough to pull out the connection so you put a safety clip on now on tip against the safety clip and not against the cable that kind of thing is the kind of thing you think about all of the time when you used to doing something but it's really important to do stupid things like that which is why it's important to be familiar with this kind of work but there we go it's all connected up and ready to run so there it is ready to trial it now I've changed camera so you can see the full length of it so it's a bit of a bit awkward because that is the only source of heating I've got in my lap and it's a bit cold in here but I plan actually on heating the entire lap with that radiator it's all set up and ready to go so let's turn it on and that's 18 degrees so that is now booting up to 18 degrees I don't have an infrared camera which is kind of a shame really because it'd be great to see an infrared picture of it but if we use a temperature monitor the bars are getting to about 22 degrees and the thermocouple wherever the thermocouple in the middle there is at 18 degree such as what you'd expect now it's an interesting little aside because a lot of people think that I don't have a safety country's you when I set this up right off camera I've got here here's a fire extinguisher cuz I don't know what that's going to happen here I just turned it on and hope for the best fingers crossed so I made sure I was ready in case anything dangerous did happen I'll check the equipment to take care of that but anyway it hasn't and there we go it's all nicely finished now and that is obviously live so you can't touch that and in the UK we're required to cover all of this stuff up so what I'm going to have to do is put some kind of covering on that now the device that I got to control it's pretty cool actually it allows you to set the various kind of coverings and it also is an energy monitor so I'm going to monitor that energy usage over the next few days and poverty report back on its energy usage I plan on covering that with some vinyl now you can Co that with anything I mean although we've put down the wall that would go on the floor quite as well or in the ceiling if you wanted to on the floor you would cover with tiles carpet wood vinyl laminate anything you wanted on the wall equally you'd cover it with those kind of things so that would go into a bathroom no problem at all and you put the tiles stretch on top of it and you would tile on top of it as a sound relief for the vinyl on it if you wanted to make an area that you could see that there's a radiator more than a piece of plastic screw that the top of it will be just fine the most this ever gets up to is about 40 degrees centigrade than that so you don't have any worries about my burning and melting things because it just doesn't get hot enough your cup of tea is much hotter than that anyway there we go and it's actually pretty warm when I came in earlier I was wearing two coats because I'm cold now you can see I'm in my mutual blue steel blue shorts a shirt feeling pretty comfortable actually done very pleased with that and I should just cover it up and Pat that bottom area off that we see with a bit of skirting board and there we go there you got one coat 25 milliliters of this heat resistant ink was enough to make that massive radiator now I only painted that one is adding some point you could quite happily pen the whole way around rewards if you wanted to and the floor and have ambient eating that particular one there heats up quite nicely it only takes about three amps it's a point eight kilowatt heater and most of these electrical heaters are 2 kilowatts and doing a boring job that's point 8 kilowatts and get the temperature up very quickly now if you're going to do this you need to be aware that there can be problems and arise the problems are mostly to do with the way that you do it if you do it on a bad surface well you're going to get a bad job you need to make sure that everything sticks down so when you put the copper tape on the copper tip has to lie flat when you paint on the compet AB you have to make sure that you paint on the copper tape because the junction between the copper and the carbon will form a very hot resistive circuit if the copper isn't stuck down until paint on it properly so prepare it just like you would any other pen job you're not going to be able to slap it on really really quickly and badly and hope for a good job it just won't work but then neither would any pen job you have to do your preparation clean your surface see all the surface make sure the copper stuck down make sure the paint is applied properly and then you're going to get a good job in years of service life out of this thing without any problem whatsoever anyway I do hope that was of interest to you and thank you very much for watching
