mr woodhouse would it be uh been delicate to inquire how many years it is since you first began writing it all it's not actually working out 192 56 years let's say 56 years since i've supported myself as a writer i actually started in 1900 but i was in hong kong bank in those two years and in 1992 i left to become a professional writer and in that time how many how many books have you written i've written 77 which is just one for every year of my life when was your first jeeves book well the first actual g's story was in 1916 was he your favorite character yes on the whole he and bertie worcester yes i think so except that's lord emsworth it's fairly clear that in the welfare state in britain at the present time the world of jeeves and bertie wooster really doesn't exist anymore i'm wondering if it ever did exist oh i think unquestionably in uh roundabout before the first world war i think those characters that i write about uh more or less true to life at that time say after 1914 i think the uh certainly i as a young man i used to know by the score but of course now i imagine they are all um more or less i always look at myself writing historical novels these days
