what's up everyone I'm Matt with Ozark Overland adventures and I just released a video a couple weeks ago on useless overlanding gear so in this video we're going to flip it and we're going to talk about over Landing slash camping gear that's actually worth spending the money on and we're going to kick this one off with what I think is is just the biggest game changer for me in my camping over Landing journey and that's a 12 volt fridge um these things are so awesome to have no more having to deal with ice ice taking up space in you know as far as volume goes to to keep food and drinks in soggy food you know just dealing with all the sloshing and stuff especially for those who invest the money in the really nice ice chest like the yetis the arctics you know the big roto-molded thing you can get some cheap ones at Walmart but you know what I'm talking about you can find a fridge for a very similar amount of money um I mean they just they come in all different sizes and shapes and dual zones and single zones that you can find a fridge that will fit your needs and and probably your budget as well this one is a 55 liter I I really like this fridge a lot it's by iceco it's the apl55 it's a it's one of those convertible ones where you can have a single zone or a dual zone and I I really like it because I can keep all my drinks and stuff cold on my food and I love I I having popsicles at Camp has been my new my new go-to for for snacks so that that you can't do with an ice chest you can't take popsicles you can't take ice cream you can't take frozen meats for a longer trip so um these are awesome but as far as a budget friendly brand highly recommend set Power they've got a three year warranty on their compressors unlike most of the other budget Brands and for the best bang for the buck isco's the way to go for sure I've got there'll be links for as much of this stuff as I can in the description I've got discount codes for both iceco and set Power that will save you 12 percent on your purchase so consider that as part of you know as part of the budget but I mean we've got everything from 55 liters here we've got this true dual zone 65 liter fridge in our conqueror and then we even got this little 20 liter set Power fridge for the back of my wife's Wrangler because when she's out on her trips she's got a 60 liter fridge in her trailer and so in her Jeep she just needs something to keep drinks and you know little snacks and that sort of stuff called so that this one's perfect so a 12 volt fridge totally worth it absolute game changer up next on the list are propane fire pits now if if you travel out west in the summertime you're very likely going to be traveling in areas with burn bans that will not allow any type of campfires so that's where these come in super handy they come in all different shapes and sizes we've got two one a bigger one this is the trail Fire Grill we love this one because not only is it a great fire pit but it also comes with a great and you can throw a pizza stone on here it comes with uh lid that can serve as kind of a wok and so this is not only a good fire pit but it's also a great cooking tool so anything that can have multi-purpose is great this is the ignic fire can this is the one we take when it's just me or just me and my wife you're not going to get a bunch of people around us getting warm but for one or two people this thing's great and it packs up really small everything fits inside the can got the nice lid that goes on it and packs up very small which is Handy this one you can run off a five pound propane bottle for a couple nights this one if you're going to take a big one you're going to need a 10 probably a 20 pound propane bottle to really crank this up and get some heat out of it because they do run through propane pretty fast but I mean if you're traveling in any place with burn bands these are a must totally worth it up next continuing on with the fire pit theme these pop-up fire pits uh are incredible ever since getting this a number of years ago I hate using the ground firings they're just they're dirty you don't know what else in them and that they don't burn a nice clean fire these first of all pack up really small just comes in this little bag smaller than most camp chairs and what it does is it elevates the fire up off the ground it has a stainless steel mesh screen on the bottom which allows airflow to come in from the bottom which makes a very hot very clean burning fire with very little smoke and so from from just uh enjoying a campfire kind of thing these things are totally worth it another great thing about these is there's an optional grate that you can get for the top of these to turn this into you know a grill and cook off of it that's really handy too I I don't like having fires in the ground fire pits anymore I won't use them I just I'll take this then you can have a fire you don't have to have a firing you can just make a campfire anywhere really handy totally worth it up next on my list of overlanding camping gear that is worth the money diesel heater now I know we are just getting into the middle of the summer time here and it's already hot down here in the South it's getting real sticky but for winter camping these things have been so incredible they're very efficient they draw very little power they use very little diesel the little tank that comes in this can last us easily two sometimes even three nights depending on on how high we run it but we have camped in sub freezing temperatures down to 20 degrees with this thing and stayed warm and cozy up in the tent just you know sleeping in her underwear just a very thin top blanket and got six inches of snow outside so these things are incredible highly worth it I I do recommend you know just go to Amazon they're only like 150 to 200 bucks they've got some newer ones now with Bluetooth control that I really want so when you're up in your tent you can make adjustments and check on things that would be really handy to have but yeah as far as the the size of these they come in kilohertz kilowatts kilowatts um we've had a two kilowatt it is perfect for a rooftop tint it's not perfect for a larger space so that's why we now have the five kilowatt and this thing will get really warm really fast so if you are the type to you know pack up your camping gear or just take a whole bunch of sleeping bags and you know pile under the blankets and stuff when you're camping and you get out of your sleeping bag and then you're freezing give the diesel heater a shot they legit work and they are totally worth it highly recommend these up next if you are going out for extended periods of times on your trips highly recommend some sort of auxiliary power solution to keep that fridge running to keep that diesel heater running to keep all your stuff charged so that you don't have to worry about it power stations are great I love them I recommend them but they have their quirks for when you're you know out traveling as far as keeping them charged that sort of thing an auxiliary power system and you know put somewhere under seats for me in the back of the bed of my Gladiator for my wife in the back of her Wrangler it's just kind of a set it up forget about it and you don't ever have to worry about whether or not you've got enough power unless you're just not moving for you know a week it can be done very economically for for my setup I've got two 100 amp hour lithium iron phosphate batteries back there in the back of the Gladiator if you see you there in the very back with that little black with the red stripe that is my red Arc bcdc 1250 charger so anytime I'm driving that thing is cranking out 50 amps to charge these batteries super fast so I never have to worry about whether or not these batteries are charged and whether or not they are working to keep my fridge my refrigerator running my refrigerator stays in the back of my Gladiator full time constantly running and I never have to worry about it right next to that is the renergy 2000 watt pure sign inverter so I can run just about anything I needed to Camp I've got little extensions that come up here so I've got my power right up here in the in the front of the bed but this system right here then of course I've got USB outlets in the side of my Jeep 112 volt there I've got 112 volt there along with switches so all of my aux lighting excuse the back of my Gladiator I am intent transition right now so I sold my my previous tent they have a new tent on the way so forgive this but all my aux lighting here for the back of the Gladiator runs off this system and I've even got power that runs up into my tent so I never have to worry about power when I'm out on the trail and that is a huge relief and and that's that's the reason why you just you just don't have to worry about it in the back of my wife's Wrangler we've got a smaller setup we've got two 50 amp hour battery so 100 amp hours total uh powered off of renergy DC to DC I think also a 50 amp uh charger so never has to worry about power I've got auxiliary Outlets here for both USB A and C 12 volt for fridges for diesel heaters uh all of that set up there and she doesn't have to worry about it I've got install videos for both of these setups I'll leave the links down in the description but auxiliary powder is just you just don't have to worry about it you don't have to worry about take grabbing the power station you don't have to worry about keeping it charged you just you just have it always and again as we did in my life's Wrangler it can be done pretty economically especially if their prices some of these power stations you could do that setup and and just never worry it's awesome up next on the list is a satellite Communications device like either the Garmin in rates this is the Garmin enrich mini that's the the original not the brand new one or the zolio now we have both of these and these are awesome because you know when we're out off the grid we most of the time don't have sell signal and sometimes you need to communicate back at home and be able to send a text to check in with your wife your kids your husband your parents whatever and that's where these things come in super handy that they work they're sometimes slow but they work and when you don't have cell signal sometimes you just got to check in on somebody or let someone know that you're okay and that's what these are for these are also great for if something goes catastrophically wrong and you need help you need to be rescued you need to be recovered you know if things go horribly bad both of these have SOS functions so on the Garmin just pull that out right there push that button and it sends the signal for help to come same thing with silio right underneath there if the SOS button this is one of those things where you need to have it and you hope you never have to use it because if you can't get help when you're in one of those situations I mean very literally could be the difference between life and death so some form of satellite messaging Communications device like the zeli other Garmin enrich now we prefer the zolio this is the one that lives in my wife's rig this is mine I plan on changing very soon to the zolio because one advantage that this has over this one when it comes to text messaging is this has a dedicated number so if something goes wrong at home and my wife or a parent or a kid needs to contact me in an emergency with this they can with this I have to establish texting first because it does not keep an assigned number now the new enrich minis they may have changed that but for the for these they don't keep its own number it's not locked in this one they can take text you first this one you have to text first so you can message the app or through the the web tool you can I think initiate via email with this but for texting zelio is the way to go plans for these are around 20 bucks a month 25 bucks a month you can suspend them when you're not using them so you're not just wasting 20 bucks a month if you're not out and about so that's super handy but these are a must now I know someone's going to ask what about starlink satellite internet because we have starlink and that is great for when you get to camp and are set up you can text and browse and FaceTime and all that sort of stuff at camp but if you have an emergency on the trail you know you can't be pulling out the satellite setting it up waiting for it to connect and then be able to do your thing you need something that's going to be just there so that's what highly recommend these now the last thing on my list for over landing and camping gear that's actually worth it the DeVos Light Ranger camp lights this is legit the best camp light I have ever used and I've used quite a few what it is it's uh it's it's this little light right here that comes with a telescoping pole which allows you to raise the light up I think up to nine feet tall so it gets the light way up high spreads the light around camp and it's it's it's the most incredible camp light I've ever seen you've got this is it um it's got four LED lights around the edge you can push the button again and change it to just two so if you just need to light half your camp or if you you know want to save you can do it three times and only have one light activated and you can even hold down the button and you can dim the light down so it's not as bright and it's just an incredible light you can take it off and so you can it's got a little Loop in here if you need to hang it from something you can if you're working on your vehicle and you need a light to shine up to see what you're working at you can do it like that you can just set it on a table like that and have light like this around your table it's an incredibly versatile light they've got options for them such as the filter kit it comes with three different filters I'm using the Amber on mine helps with the bugs that's another thing these things are great at with with this you know bugs are drawn to light even if you've got the Amber covers on drugs are bugs are still going to be drawn to it to an extent and so you take this and you put it way up high just you know just away from Camp so it's still lighting up your Camp the bugs are going to be drawn to this instead of you and it it's a game changer I actually um had this out on a recent camping trip and the bugs were swarming around the light so bad that when I went to bed I didn't even venture over there I just let to turn this off I just let it die I just let it run all night long because I was not going into that swarm that was around the light and that's not too bad of a deal because these charge with USBC and they charge really fast so that that's an upgrade compared to the original light Rangers they now have USBC charging and much faster charging so next day just get on the move and you can you know plug this into USBC and you can charge this pretty quick if you're staying at camp and you don't want to deal with the charging they actually have um a little 20 watt solar panel so the solar panel can just clip on here and boom so you've got this at camp and just leave this set up during the day and the sun will will charge it so that's a cool little cool little accessory that they have there we go and then DeVos has come out with I guess the Mini Light Ranger this is I think this one's I think the 1200 I think this one's 800 but this guy packs down even smaller it's a smaller light not as bright they don't have filter kits for it but still has the same functions tap it you get four lights tap it again you get two lights doesn't have the one light feature hold them down it'll dim so another smaller more budget-friendly option than the the big light Ranger but and no I mean as far as an LED light goes these aren't cheap but they're incredibly high quality and absolutely worth it like I said links in the description for most of this stuff but um highly recommend the Dos Light Ranger best camp light you'll ever own I'm gonna throw in an honorable mention and I didn't have them on the list originally because they're just so expensive so whether or not they're worth it really depends on where you live where you like to camp and how bad you want to get out and camp and that is a battery powered portable air conditioner this is a zero Breeze Mark II this is the ecoflow wave 2. been putting this one to the test recently used this one quite a bit in the last couple years but these legit work so if you like us live in the south hot humid muggy you know you can usually tolerate the day can't buy a stream stay in the water or that sort of thing but when it's time to go to bed at night even a fan doesn't get that humid sticky off you so these make camping in the hot summer humid months of the year doable and we we've used this one our last couple trips out in the Ozarks I I hate using the word game changer but I mean it literally makes it so much better when you're you know trying to sleep at night and it's hot and humid outside these legit work they're not cheap the zero Breeze is the cheaper of the two it works it works well um it's it it's a good one it's also smaller the Eco flow Wave 2 is just better in almost every way the biggest deal is that not only can it cool it can heat two it won't replace the diesel here for heating but it does heat but this one has really nice app control so you can just set this outside your tent and you can turn it on off chain settings temperatures fan speed all that sort of stuff from the app and not have to deal with you know getting in and out of the tent or you know opening the window or something to change this so these both work this one is definitely more expensive than the than the zero Breeze but they legit work so I'm throwing them in as an honorable mention whether or not it's it's worth it is dependent on your love for camping and where you are and that sort of thing because we can't always escape to the mountains so we can't be around and if I'm going out to the Ozarks in the summertime one of these is going with me guaranteed because otherwise I'm not going to get a good night's sleep so whether or not it's worth it it's worth it to me so just wanted to mention these these legit work and if it's in your budget and you love to camp it it they work well that's my list um let me know in the comments what what you think do you agree disagree with any of these things what what have you found on your trips that is just absolutely worth it must have for your trips um I I'd love to know you know maybe I'm missing out on something that I don't know about or maybe I shouldn't think about how valuable that one thing is so let me know in the comments if you would give the video a
