Our UK Home Renovation. Renovating the Kitchen

welcome back to episode 8 where we're renovating an auction property in the middle of Suffolk into the home of our dreams last week you would have seen us crack out the patio ready for these beaut summer evenings but this week again we are bulls to the walls our kitchen is arriving in just three weeks and it's currently looking like this not only do we order our kitchen and prep it within this episode but we also continue on our master bedroom so we actually have somewhere to sleep in this building site of a home but enough to talk about what's going to happen let's show you instead so if you watched last episode you will remember that we were in a Race Against Time to get the master bedroom ready for the plasterer but we just about got there in the end and got it boarded up and ready for it since then as you saw he came in and skimmed it all and now we have got a blank canvas ready to be decorated Painting and Decorating Montage I think that's about right let's go let's do it [Music] thank you [Music] so I think now's about the right time to discuss the mood board we've got going into this bedroom so me and Harry a massive panel lovers we love the traditional vibe in houses and I think we're going to try and stick with that sort of traditional theme throughout the whole house we just love the traditional look let's do something I really hope this game it's gonna look good so we were racing along until it was time to work out how to calculate the spaces between the panels so they'd all be even honestly you've never seen two grown adults get so confused over such basic maths and about half an hour later once we worked out we celebrated with a long hug oh put those sockets for a hug so the panels are up now it's time to fill in all of the holes and I'm also going to Cork around all the edges so let's get on with that [Music] so this wall I'm painting right now will actually eventually be hidden with some sliding mirror doors this will hopefully open up the space even more and make it bright and Airy the plan is to add in hanging rails on either side of the chimney breast as well as close storage boxes on the bottom half [Music] [Applause] so it is a new day and we're pretty happy with what we've cracked on with yesterday just starting to come together a little bit good morning yeah starting to get there with this room we've actually decided that we're going to move in here tonight kind of temporarily just so we can get all the floorboards up in the other room we might be moving on to other jobs soon we will be because there's some more important things to crack on with and the kitchen is coming in four weeks time four weeks today we still don't have a roof downstairs yeah a couple last touches on this room and then we're gonna move in thank you [Music] [Applause] this was also another issue with our last plasterer he didn't do a great job below the windowsill and around all the plug sockets and for us a high finish is everything so Nikki spent a good couple of hours correcting this with filler and repaint [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] I think now is a good time to talk about the room in the house that we are most excited about which is the kitchen now last episode you guys helped us decide which kitchen we should have ordered because we're in option one and option two and the vast majority of you went for option one so yeah we've ordered our kitchen and we are so excited about it now what helped us order our kitchen so quickly was DIY kitchens online planner so we're going to put it up here on the screen for you and just give you a little idea of what we put in our kitchen so as you can see in the room setup tab we literally just popped down all of our measurements of our kitchen including the chimney brass the rsj all of that stuff Windows radiators and then in the plan section you can see our kitchen that we've ordered so we're just going to nip through it and show you the main things that we've got in our kitchen so our Peninsula Island has got a lot of storage in it just some straight cupboards on the edge and then some curved ones on the back with a four burner hob on the top of that island now as someone mentioned in the comments pan drawers are a must so we've got these below our hob and then the past that we've just got a corner unit to tie in that Island working our way along under the window we've got a Slimline dishwasher a butler sink which was a must for us and a pull out bin I'm not sure if we actually want to swap the dishwasher and the bin kind of in proximity to where you'd be if that makes sense because it might be better to have the bin on the side that's closest to the hob so let us know what you think so now on that back wall where the chimney breast is we have got an integrated washer dryer a single base unit which ties in nicely with our oven on the other side to keep it symmetrical we have another single base unit and next to that we have a Le Mans Corner base unit which has these really cool pull out sort of shelves I think that's a great way of adding extra storage into this kind of small to medium kitchen we've got next to that is the fridge freezer which is integrated and next to that is one of my favorite things we've ordered which is the tall Lada unit and lastly next to that is our tall wine rack unit because we like to be bougie and adult and mature and pretend we drink lots of wine which we now will since behind us now even if you're not doing a home renovation project this 3D panel is just so much fun to kind of play around with it's a bit like a game of Sims you can kind of just put your measurements in have some fun and see what you could do with your space because there are endless possibilities I can do your whole pitch and then you can try out the different types of cabinets and different colors and that is so much fun we did that with so many different colors and so many different types of worktops too but anyway we are not going to ramble on because now it's officially ordered and it will be here in two weeks so it looks like we've got to get this room prepped and ready for a kitchen so we should probably crack up let's go let's go say hi say hi to the people at Sonic's on neighbors cat but we always find the next one of those cats in our house we are currently in a very messy kitchen there is a lot of work to be done just got to smash it out it's getting ready for the new kitchen baby choose a smashing up and getting this kitchen ready Montage hell yeah so you might be thinking what jobs are you actually gonna do to do the prep well we're basically going to take everything out the kitchen including those units on the left we have to organize some electrical wires remove old plasterboard and Dot and dab more screw the floor where we knocked both the internal walls down and Chase quite a lot of brick to allow for more electrics in the kitchen yep that's what we've got to do in three weeks including allowing time for the plasterers to do his thing and the roofer to install a roof on our lean tin do you want to give this a yes it's kind of fun yeah so I'm not letting that door yeah baby [Music] so as some of you might know we are working on a super strict budget on this build we've got just 30 000 pounds for this whole renovation one of the ways we keep our costs low is by doing all of the chasing for electricians plumbers Etc so I'm about to do a fat chase down this wall here so that the electrician could run some big wires down there for our electric hob or our induction oven Etc in one big chase [Music] thank you [Music] okay so I was about to sweep the floor but then I realized we're gonna have to remove some more of this plasterboard to be able to add some nice Square pieces to re-plaster the ceiling so I'm going to cut back that plasterboard straight now and drop it down just so that all the dust Falls before us we rather than after a sweet foreign [Music] let's talk about something that we've actually already accomplished so a couple episodes ago you would have seen us finish our bathroom but we haven't exactly shown you the full end result so you haven't really seen our shower yet and a lot of people have been asking to have a little update on that so it is in constant use we are using the shower every day as you can imagine because we are covered in bricks and having this bathroom on site has been a real luxury for us to be honest but we're not done there we've got to make a bedroom a bit more luxury so we should probably crack on with that master so you meet me in the bedroom again and today we have just received our bed and mattress so it's time to boost you this room up a little bit I guess after the bathroom this is the second room that will be complete in the house and we cannot wait so let's get these two single mattresses out of here and put in a proper bed [Music] so it's probably worth mentioning at this point by the way that the carpet behind me here is all like temporary old carpet it's just to kind of give the place a better feel to win on floorboards because there's no point in installing proper carpet until it all gets done upstairs yeah [Music] nice [Music] that bed is nice I really like it do you like it I do I just think it hides the paneling a lot I think that's me I think potentially this bed could end up in another room I think I could change to like a more wooden bed but then like a more see-through backboard Tire exactly agree because I want to do like Oak Chester drawers and stuff I agree I think we have like an over effect wooden bed I agree I think this would look really nice in the third bedroom but it's important to mention that the bedroom isn't quite there yet there's still a lot more things that need to be added like blinds the wardrobes chest of drawers beds like tables carpet so this was just to give you an idea of what we're going for and for us to have a little bit of luxury in our house because it all won't come together until right at the end when it all ties in do you gotta wait and see what that looks like um so do we apparently Joe I think would make this really nice some skirting boards I think Scott and balls will add to the whole aesthetic don't you it just ties it all in we're big skirting boards and architect fans I'm gonna put that out there we love them not after Chase what are they called yeah it's getting more dark shoes and clothing roses oh we love them yeah I've ordered one I'll show you them now oh my God think that's really pretty oh yeah once all painted like that that's stunning right we're back in the bedroom now and it is time to add some beautiful skirting boards so we actually bought these from skirting world and they're basically skirting board covers so to save us all the bag of ripping them out and making it all dirty and ugly we literally just slide them on top of the skirting boards that are already there so I think this is a bit of a game changer and I'm going to show you how I'm going to install them [Music] wow look oh wow how cute is that that actually changes the room [Music] so now they're in place my next job is to paint them because they're already primed they came primed which is such a Time Saver for me um paint them and cork them and then we're ready to go so let's get on with it foreign [Music] foreign [Music] finish in a house really helps to make it so these skirting boards have done exactly that for us I feel like they've really tied it all in yeah I think they add so much Elegance to the house and really they heighten kind of the market value of the house without having to spend too much money on it so the thank you skirting World anyway the kitchen is still in dire need of some TLC now here's a little throwback for you guys because this kitchen was originally split into three rooms if you remember and since taking down them two walls we have realized that the floors are very uneven a good three to four centimeter height difference in them so it's time to put our thinking caps on and learn how to self-level a floor which is something we've never done before [Music] because there's such a height difference we're advised to use a layer of mud and pee shingle at the base before adding the self-leveling compound as this normally only covers a max depth of 15 millimeters this was a Mucky job but luckily we only have a small area to cover by the way I feel like we kind of forgot to mention why we're doing all this we need a level floor to lay our vinyl flooring on which we are so excited about we've got some flooring order from Harvey Maria which looks ridiculously nice which we're going to be installing in the next video so yeah holding out for
