there were five running backs drafted outside of the start of round 10 last year that finished his top 26 scores at the position those names kyen Williams Raheem moart Devon Anan by the way that's three of the top four overall scores at the position wow Zach moss and Jerome Ford who we featured on the show last season Hayden I'll ask you this question just like I did on the wide receiver sleeper Show are there any threadlines that you can see between all those players um well it kind of bucked the trend of like size mattering there were some smaller guys that went crazy but good offenses talking about kyen Williams and and the Dolphins in particular there and then it takes some injury luck as well like ham makr and all these other guys they get banged up and then all of a sudden uh they go crazy yeah I spent a bit too long thinking about the situations for all five of those players 365 days ago like I went back and read the great Jordan rodriges column on how she predicted the depth chart coming out of training camp for the Rams backfield and she had cam makers listed over kyen Williams which I think can be easy to do for those Rams teams because Shawn McVey never plays starters or never Reveals His Hand during training camp obviously where he moster just blasts off as the best touchdown scorer in 30 plus year old since John Riggins I mean Hayden he jumped from three rushing touchdowns in 20122 to 18 rushing touchdowns this past season and remember Jeff Wilson was in the mix then he missed time and then all of a sudden there's uh it goes from three to two and that obviously helped a ton and speaking of injuries like you did with Jeff Wilson Zach Moss had I believe a broken forearm there was also that total indecision of what was going to happen with Jonathan Taylor how many games he was going to miss if he was going to be the entire season and so we didn't get to see Zach Moss during you know these preseason reps and then Jerome Ford again was a running back handcuff running back insurance and we did feature him on the show because in an offense that had you know the likes of Nick chub and Kareem hunt and all signs indicated that he was going to be the lead guy if something did happen to Nick chub last year was just such a smashing success for zero RB in ways that not sure it's going to be as drastic I've been drafting a lot of like four RB teams and not even like getting into this tier because the running back prices are down two full rounds and where they were on Underdog but not every single draft site is as wide receiver focused as Underdog is so we got to get some Sleepers for the folks and as you can tell from all those names like no running back taken outside the top 10 rounds is going to be cut and dry plug-and playay it's a bit more easy to predict I think those at the wide receiver position than the running back one because almost dominoes have to fall or doors have to open in order for one of these guys to be top 26 scorers uh one other note before we get into these six leapers um the six names we mentioned today are not going to include rookies um I think this was kind of an active decision on our part so no Marshon lloy no brillan Allen despite all the publicity he's getting from beat Riders no even Tyrone Tracy we will have a Keen Eye I believe on all these names during training camp and preseason games because so much of our content focuses on rookies and how they're performing during that span so it's not like we don't care about them we just think that there's going to be more information on what their roles and opportunities might be moving forward during that month of August and early September yeah the right there's a lot of running backs I like in like the 180 to 225 in in ADP but that's for like a deep sleeper show I'm going up one tier there okay so once again the parameters for sleepers on this very Channel after the start of round 10 ADP of 120 plus and as much as you can today we are delivering these names in conviction order so Hayden who do you trust in the most to hit among this running back sleepers list trust is not the word I would use here but I like the upside of the Cowboys backfield they are projected for a ton of points Tony perul last year was seventh in expected half PPR points he didn't score that many PPR points but the team as a whole Cowboys fifth in running back usage last year this team's going to be very good once again and it is a complete ambiguous backfield I've been drafting a ton of Zeke Elliott he's right at that 120ish Mark but I'm warming up to Rico dle I posted this a couple of weeks ago where Rico D has not had like 200 touches or a thousand rushing yards dating all the way back to high school he's been super injured uh that's been the story of his career both at college and at the NFL so I there's not like reasons to be like super optimistic about Rico D until I went back and I watched some of his tape and he just has a little bit spice to his to his game he's pretty quick he's 215 pounds they designed a lot of screens uh to him uh even though they didn't trust him as much in pass protection so I think Zeke's going to have a role but I do think that Rico has enough athletic ability and they trusted him at least to like designed some stuff in in the past game to him where I think that Rico D has the opportunity to go from like 150 of an ADP we get one training camp beat report we get a preseason usage where he's getting way more touches than expected and he's the name that like why wouldn't he go next to like Zach Moss so I think that we're one piece of news away from Rico dle climbing like 50 spots in ADP and I think a lot of the other names we're going to get to today I also think they have upside but I think a lot of their upside is going to come to if the starter gets injured Rico D is the guy who doesn't need an injury to happen he can just be deemed the starter and I was just a little bit surprised of how quick he looked uh after going back and watching him I love the framing of this as the Cowboys backfield because it is almost that uncertain at this moment uh in fact there are three backfields and you can fact check me on this that don't have a single running back drafted inside the top 120 uh it's the Chargers backfield it's the Cleveland Browns backfield and it's this Dallas Cowboys team and they are among that grouping projected for the most points I mean project for the eighth most points in the league we have seen plenty of hype warranted for Ezekiel Elliott fantasy football seasons that has overlapped with plenty of hype for Tony Pard seasons and we even got that with him what at the round one two turn second round last year with Tony Pard and it's not like the opportunity wasn't there Tony Pard had the seventh most carries inside the 10 yard line he the 10th most carries inside the 5 yard line and that gave us absolutely nothing so then the question and it's I think very difficult to answer it in this moment so this is more maybe an open-ended question is who gets those who gets those this year because in previous seasons and especially with Mike McCarthy last year it was like one dude you know I think he's taking and I've tried to go in through these press conferences taking a different approach this year that it's going to be very consistent with running back by committee mindset and he used this quote the 17th game is real and so is that Zeke is it Rico dat they even brought up Duce Von's name Royce Freeman's name all this stuff I really think it's a two-person backfield in Zeke and in Rico datle and I'm with you there was like one cut juice Zone style running that I did like from Rico J when going back and reviewing his tape this morning and I can't be a contracts matter bro and then like excuse Zeke's oneyear $2 million contract the maximum value is 3 million the guaranteed is only 1 million so I think that Zeke's going to have value there because he obviously knows the team he can be a goal line back if they need him to be he's also very trusted in pass protection Rico daal only 21 pass protection snaps last year so that's something that Rico D is gonna have to like earn the trust of obviously protecting Zach Prescott is the most important part of this franchise out there but Rico D last notes Here 19th in yards after contact per carry out of like over 50 qualifiers number 25 in elusiveness so he kind of clears that threshold of like is he the worst back in the league I don't think that he is and I think there's a little bit of like upside of like what happens if this guy that has not had a lot of touches in his career just looks a little bit healthier than Zeke Elliott who's had I don't know 25 times more touches over the last decade uh than Ric D this probably is the worst running back room in the NFL though that's fair to say yeah possibly and like there's players like samaj P Ry that can be added to the mix here we've mentioned seven other teams right and and that's the problem even if s JP run gets cut the odd that he ends up on the Cowboys is 15 20% it it is so on my radar that everyone just pegged Jonathan Brooks to this team in round two and then the Panthers trade up ahead of them and they go the entire draft without adding another name and I mean I would have put those odds at like one at 100 that they too right a single running other than Zeke a single running back of relevance of Youth on this team and the talent might be the worst but the opportunity might be top 10 and we just needed to hit for a stretch of five to seven games and if that five to seven games as early in the season Hayden that could carry us for 15 16 17 Cowboys underrated they use analytics a ton I think that's kind of goes Overlook you don't think that Jerry Jones would be I think they just went running backs don't matter and we're going to see what Rico D is they had a plenty of opportunities to chase a bunch of bigname running back free agents didn't do that didn't do it with the draft maybe that's just saying we kind of like Reg more than the community does the de Von Bros are going to come at you in the comments down below you don't to say anything don't don't dig yourself a hole here by the way in the comments if you have some of your favorite running back sleepers be sure to leave them uh down below we'll definitely look at them okay I'm kind of phrasing these in a different way my confidence play for someone that's going to see the most early season touches early season volume is tra Huard running back 53 166 overall the Carolina pan and let me be clear I think speaking of Jonathan Brooks was the running back one in this NFL draft class he is super talented in both phases of the game but chuba hubard likely has the largest early season opportunity share among the backs he is being drafted around right now I definitely get Jonathan Brooks as running back 22 on Underdog fantasy right now from a talent perspective but I think the timeline that we were kind of fed was a bit optimistic from the jump he did not participate in OTAs Dave Canales has since come out and said hey we're going to take it slow with him entering the fry here and at the same time he mentions Jonathan Brooks he mentions that chuba hubard is you know one of the vocal leaders of this team one of the guys stays late Jim rat who they want the personality to almost Encompass this Carolina Panthers offense um and then Dave Canales constantly since day one of being hired has said quote I'm excited about proving to you how stubborn I can be with the running game so boy do I think that this offense is going to be top 10 top 15 in the league I do not do I think Miles Sanders stinks yes I do so if that leads us this Jonathan Brooks as a Long play for this Carolina Panthers offense in both the receiving game and the rushing game heck maybe in the second half of the season I still think we might get five six seven very usable weeks hovering around 20 touches with chuba hubard and again right now if everyone stays healthy I don't think any of the other players that are drafted around in this area for running backs you can attribute that to like you can for chuba down the stretch last year chuba was like an rb2 kind of on average and that was the worst the Panthers offense is going to look it cannot look worse than what it did late last year so I think that we have some opportunities for flex play early on and I was a huge Jonathan Brooks fan I have not drafted him basically at all since the landing spot and I think that the reason is there's no reason for for the Panthers to rush him in like we know that this is going to be a transition year for the organization there's no reason to have your rookie take on a bunch of hits on a team that's not going anywhere especially when you have chuba hubard who was I think fine last year he's not going to move the needle there chab also like maybe a little bit more explosive coming off that injury a couple years ago he kind of fell in the draft because of it and he looked better last year than he did the first season to me so I I just have not been so that Jonathan Brooks is going to like turn into this bcow on a Panthers team that's probably going to be playing the long game here and really trying to build for 2025 and 2026 and shout out to Ray G Q who was one of our guests for the five players I can't stop drafting series he brought up this theory that hey if you draft chuba hubard this late as running back 53 you can pair that with Blake Corum who might be a second half of the Season player or Nick chub coming back from H his injury or someone like Trey Benson a rookie versus an aging player in Arizona who is super explosive and so just both of those backs combined that are you know all let's say round nine and later on in drafts is a very interesting Dynamic that you almost Dr Frankenstein one running back position yeah I would love him like on a Jaylen Warren team too so there there's a bunch of them and like like you said there's not any running backs in that range that you can project for early season volume and that does not mean that he also can't be the the guy you need in the fantasy stretch like what if Jonathan Rooks comes back has a setback and then all of a sudden chuba Hubbert has the same odds of being the bcow as these other guys in that range and I also think that this bucks coaching staff because many of them come over to Carolina used Rashad white as a bcow last year because every other back on that roster sucked you know just offered zero zilch and that's why they went out and drafted Bucky Irving this this offseason I don't think you can say the exact same thing with a Jonathan Brooks chuba hubard Dynamic and I I don't want to you know say anything negative about Jonathan Brooks because I I think he's super talented finds the edges attacks the edges of defensive players and then really quality in the receiving game and I think much better than chuba hubber in that area yes the only thing I'm pessimistic about is the timeline or believing that a team needs to force him onto the field because as you said I don't think the Panthers have to okay we're down to slash three names uh who's next for you Tyler Al he had five top 20 running back finishes last year with bej Robinson available for basically every single game as a rookie he had six top 13 finishes these were on Falcons teams that were no bueno this team should be way better this year so there's a ton of contingent upside if something happens to bejon Robinson but even if something doesn't happen to bejon Robinson there still is a chance that Tyler Alger has some Flex value they had nine inside the fivey five yard line opportunities as a team last year which that number should go way up because his Falcons team's projected for a lot more points four of them went to Tyler aler only two of them went to bejan Robinson two of them went to uh Desmond Ritter they're not going to be doing any of that crazy stuff with Kurt Cousins two of them went to Cordell Patterson one of them went to Johnny Smith cpad is kind of the M the little ingredient that I'm kind of using here for Tyler Alger oh he had 50 carries he had almost 90 uh passing snaps uh cpat that that was Tyler algir only had 14 I think there's a chance where Alger just plays a little bit more because the new rb3 is not cat it's now Jason mlen who was a sixr rookie out of Alabama he a nobody yeah so I think Alger is gonna play a little bit more snaps and he was 21st in yards after contact per carry 21st in elusiveness rating 22nd in in Rush grade so if he does become the number one if something happens to bej Robinson I think that he's talented enough to be somebody that's really going to matter he can play uh on all three just because he has the size to to be that bcow and this is a a coaching staff that historically the Shawn mcy tree has wanted one running back I think that's going to be be Robinson for a big part of the season but the contingent upside with Tyler aler is sitting there very clearly and I like that of all these contingent guys and there's a bunch of them that Go part of the range I like that I've seen this happen before with Ty I've seen him put up numbers and be fantasy relevant before I'm not like dreaming this into existence if something happens to bej Robinson we're not going to be like what about Jason McCullen is just be like all right now we have Tyler aler yeah I have one of those names coming up too that's the biggest selling point sales pitch of Tyler aler to me because I don't think this new coaching staff is going to keep the same let's say uh committee thought process right putting it nicely that Arthur Smith utilized this past year where you know the Nerds and their Excel docs were going uh with pitchforks over to Arthur Smith's press conferences every single week and it makes sense I mean bejon had just 23 carries inside the red zone compar that to Tyler AER 34 uh whenever and we're all drafting him as such I just think that like bejan Robinson is going to get fed this year yes and run and thrown to over and over and over again so in my eyes haen and you might disagree in my eyes I think that Tyler Alger will have less stand alone value than he has in the last two seasons but at the same time his upside if something does happen to bejan Robinson is higher than it has been the last two years I I I mostly agree there I just do think that cat was stealing 10 15 20% of the work and I think that that could go to beon and aler evenly and I think that there's still some opportunities there I will just say love bejan Robinson he's gonna get the ball a ton a ton but Alger is a bigger more north south rusher so like there's a chance that some of this Red Zone stuff doesn't go completely bejan Robinson's way and last year that was kind of what happened there so new coaching staff all the stuff this is not anti- bejan Robinson time I just think that aler we know he's going to be the goal line back uh and he's going to be able to touch the ball 15 20 times in in a competent offense if something ever happens to him yeah I mean maybe more than just competent I believe that they are 11th right now or 13th in projected points that seems this next season that seems way too high like oh interesting with the Atlant Falcons interesting how much do we trust the new play caller Kurt cousin coming off this I mean like they should be like 17th 11 is is I mean come on I Didn't Know I Was goingon to pull that take out of you okay here we go uh I'll give you my second running back on his team since you just gave me one of yours and uh if you had Tyler AER running back 50 that's where he's being Underdog Fantasy by the way you can all draft on Underdog fantasy right now click the link in the description down below if you've never played best ball you've heard us and everyone else talk about it before now's the time to do so July 4th weekend the perfect time to boot up on your app if you live in Texas or Michigan or North Carolina or all these other places you can play on Underdog fantasy right now all you do is draft and that's it we'll throw some money back at you plus a pick them special if you sign up using the promo code and the link down below okay Zack sharpet is my guy yes running back 4 1 133 overall obviously Kenneth Walker is a very talented roadblock Zack sharb did not cross 10 touches in a game when Kenneth Walker was healthy this past season but I want to say that both of these backs are very good and in somewhat different ways and there's a new staff with fresh eyes and we're able to get them six plus rounds apart um Ryan grub comes from the University of Washington which he had a but backfield in 2022 then one work course in 2023 if we just look at last year as a rookie again paired with a very talented Kenneth Walker Zack sharpan already carved a role into this offense third Downs uh played 122 third down snaps compared to just 35 for Kenneth Walker um and maybe my big pitch here Hayden Seattle has been one of the slowest paced offenses in the league over the last three years in fact the 58 plays that they ran this past season was 3 second in number of plays across the league that blew my mind when I looked at this Ryan grub that is not his style that is not his style so to recap here I believe Zack shanet is arguably the most talented running back going after the start of round 10 if you don't Factor Nick chub in the injury he's coming back from okay I also think that this is an offense that is going to outproduce their projections this season I think you will get some base level Standalone value of points from Zack shet if he just carves into the role plus a little bit more that he had last year but the real immense ceiling kicks in that if unfortunately Kenneth Walker does Miss time you'd have I think a top 15 back weekly on your hands in Zack sharpen yeah those plays per game that really hurt the the ground game in particular last year so I think that chanet is good enough to be a Bellow that we don't have to worry about a third guy getting in the mix if something happens to Kenneth Walker and I love Kenneth Walker there is a chance where it becomes a little bit more 5050 going into year two new coaching staff will see exactly what type of rushing scheme that they want to go with and what they're okay with living with and pros and cons between the two because they are completely different style backs and I I like sharan he he wasn't as much of a plotter as like the downside risk looking at his rookie tape he had a little bit more uh juice than I think some people uh believed was possible for somebody has like big and it's not super explosive uh throughout the the pre-draft process there and Seahawks like could they be better than the Falcons this year hell yeah they can be and I I don't that people are are um projecting the Seahawks offense for as good of production as I think that they can have I think a lot of it's because uh people don't give Gino Smith enough credit for how good he is uh which is a huge deal uh and hopefully that offensive line can get way better there yeah somehow we will still be able to talk about Gino Smith in our quarterback sleepers video and we might spend half the video on him this offense so let's not focus on that anymore yeah I mean Zack shy creates yards on his own second level make people miss I think he has hidden yards on Final contact in the one area uh if you know things don't progress or project as great as you and I think they might of the Seattle Seahawks is that kenth walker uh owned 76% of this team's carries inside the five yard L this past season that was the third highest mark across the entire NFL so if that even goes closer to 50-50 like it is on most teams that have two quality running backs then uh then I think we'll get just a natural bump up here for Zack sharp okay two more names who do you have Elijah Mitchell uh I couldn't make the same exact case for CH here I don't think that the running back three is that scary for um Elijah Mitchell Isaac gendo he is to me a developmental guy maybe more of a core special teamer uh Shanahan said that he had a lot to learn um after OTAs there so not really worried about Isaac greno so to me it's like what has exactly changed here last year we were drafting Elijah Mitchell 128th overall now he's 181st is that just because CMC stayed healthy I think that's that's literally all it was and CMC by the way 439 carries and targets last year if you can include the playoffs that is a ton and if you're sorting by who's the most likely to miss time it's the running backs that get the ball a lot and we know the 49ers are going to be really good even if CMC uh was out they would still be projected for top five points every single week and we want the running backs on those teams we've seen Shanah hand go out of his way to compliment Elijah Mitchell a ton I think it's just been a little bit since we've seen him out there and be very active but I did look at Weeks 17 and 18 the last two years this with CMC on the field but the division was either wrapped up or whatever was Elijah Mitchell in those three games he's been the rb6 in fantasy the rb14 and the RB 16 so he's three for three for being a fantasy relevant player and that a running back six uh Mark is is the upside that we're looking here for so uh not nervous about Isaac greno at all I think that's more of a 2025 play if anything because it is a contract year for Elijah Mitchell which sometimes we have seen a player who has played I think just 27 games in his opening three years like Elijah Mitchell has uh can magically stay healthy for 17 games and land somewhat of a contract even though that's difficult for the running back position and if that's the case that contract almost certainly will not come from the San Francisco 49ers so they are you know I think looking for the future with the Isaac gindo selection right I think it's the simple Elijah Mitchell case is the running back twos if you ranked them in order Elijah Mitchell is way down the list and he plays for a team that's very very good the best offense in the NFL in terms of projected points and his starting running back is coming off a year where they touch the ball 400 times like that is so rare to happen so CMC can be the guy that you need for 14 weeks in a row and then all of a sudden he picks up an injury and then I think Elijah Mitchell would' be ranking inside like the top 15 perhaps even higher uh depending on how like Jordan Mason those guys look yeah like let's just take the top six projected teams in points this year you know it's San Francisco Detroit Kansas City Miami Buffalo and then Cincinnati okay like Detroit it's 13 and 74 for their two running backs Kansas City you mentioned c as one it's 47 and 206 overall 0piece Miami it's 25 and 97 Buffalo I mean Ray Davis is going ahead of Elijah Mitchell at 56 and 158 which makes sense because Ray Davis might get some goine worked we'll talk about him a lot in August and then Zach Moss it's 92 and 120ish with Chase Brown so like the team that's project score the most points their league running back goes number one overall which is very valid but then the guy if something happens to the number one overall pick is going around what 190 is it's insane makes sense by the way David Lombardi of the athletic based in his observations of OTAs and he has connections and he's been watching this team for multiple years has said that Elijah Mitchell was a clearcut running back too on this team it's just been health for him why he hasn't held on to those opportunities when the opportunity has come for a backup running back on this team it's classic recency bias it didn't work last year so now we're going to move him 60 spots in 0p the story is the exact same okay I'll close this out with Tai Chandler running back 46 144 overall we saw it towards the end of last season I believe it was like week 11-ish uh he was able to get 123 Touches for 620 yards that was five yards per touch uh the name that is obviously above him on this depth chart is Aaron Jones who was one of the most explosive backs on the field to my eye last season uh but that was 11 games at the age of roughly 29 years old uh we have seen Aaron Jones Miss I believe games in five of his seven seasons in the league and for a team that had some rushing difficulties last year with Madison and Tai Chandler now they go into this season with a guy who just played 11 games in Aaron Jones at the age of 29 and then Ty Chandler and that's it they didn't add anyone else and when you go and listen to Kevin okell who you and I really like he has some love for Tai Chandler and there's some obvious traits there he's a very explosive Runner who gets to the Edge gets the corner store and can create you know 12 to 15 yard gains if we try to Mash together these two Styles considering where the ages are of each I think Aaron Jones is going to own passing down roles and you know be the starter of this team probably like 60% but that's fine with me because Tai Chandler his weakest area is pass protection when you watched him last year as a lead Ball Carrier he couldn't identify a blitz or hold up in pass protection and so if we get more of the Dirty Work stuff from Tai Chandler plus the possibility of a very talented Aaron Jones missing some time and then again you have Tai Chandler who they're relying on to enter this season versus last year it took until about week 10 or week 11 for them to actually trust him I'm in again on this running back 46 price teag there's two different types of sleepers there's the super high upside low probability of hitting like the Elijah Mitchell that we're talking about and then there's this type where I think the the ceiling is pretty low but his odds of being in the flex category I think are pretty high and I think I'm more pessimistic on Aaron Jones uh he's been an above average player in fantasy points overex expected every single year until last year where he was negative 18% versus what his totals were it was he wasn't as efficient through the air career low 5.2 yards per touch but the production at the the goal line was really bad he was way low in expected uh touchdowns there so uh there's a chance where Aaron Jones turning 30 years old in December this year where he just does not look the same uh in a new offense and then that TI Chandler is like the version of this so I think that he has a chance to like kind of Wally pip uh Aaron Jones and a lot of the guys that we named I don't think that's possible so he's just like a different styled sleeper to me um but he's definitely a little bit on my radar you mentioned goal line very small sample here Tai Chandler had three carries inside the five yard line last year he scored three touchdowns Vikings oine pretty good uh and this was also when Tai Chandler was playing he didn't enter the lineup until it was the Josh dos jiren Hall Nick Mullins quarterbacks you know and that is just going to impact the I think success and efficiency of your team no matter what and so you would hope you would hope that some Sam darnold plus JJ McCarthy is going to be better than the dynamic that he played with last year at quarterback I can guarantee that will be the case I I I I like Sam darnold and JJ McCarthy versus where most people think they are again we didn't include rookies I can't wait to hear about Tyron Tracy as Mr preseason God this offseason one name I did not mention as an mention here is jilo mlin uh a lot of the players we talked about today had size and that for us equals touchdowns inside the 10 yard line I think julo mlin if you're just talking about between the 20s Runners on the Denver Broncos arguably the best runner on that team that is a wild prediction that I'm not responsible for but I just don't know if I could Envision him getting 15 to 20 touches on a weekly basis he's more of a PPR scam zero RB there's some builds for J M I don't think best even though we have seen like this type super explosive uh in the right system in the right environment lead to tons of fantasy points I just don't know if 2024 Denver Broncos will give us a type of season like that from Jill CL all right I'm gonna go rapid fire we'll get to these guys in August though um CLE Herbert kamani vdal brillan Allen Tyrone Tracy will shiple audri ese last name
