Oru Kayak How To: Putting on and Using a Kayak Spray Skirt

[Music] hi this is Jeff with Aurra kayak we're here we're gonna be donning a skirt showing you how to do that and we're going to be getting into a sit in kayak a couple of differences with a sit in kayak instead of a sit on top kayak is your center gravity is lower you have a cockpit Rim which you can see here and that cockpit rim is what the skirt is going to go on so when we want to put the skirt on we want to make sure that the manufacturers logo the ORA kayaks in the front our handle is down the bottom I'm going to put it on like it's a pair of pants go ahead put both legs in we want our hip bone right here to be about where that seam is so we're gonna raise it up high use these velcro enclosures go ahead and get it snug we've got gentle conditions here you can see I'm in shorts a rash guard and a life vest if it was more advanced conditions or I was expecting to probably get wet I would dress for immersion so that one might look like a dry suit dry pants some other layers when we have a skirt this is going to keep my bottom area warm and not wet so I think for this paddle today having shorts is going to be just fine so we're going to go ahead and get in our sit in kayak here we have our skirt we're gonna have to mine that we're gonna go ahead and step over the boat I'm gonna mine the back of the skirt sit down on our cockpit rim here get our feet in manage the seat if you lean back that's going to make the skirt closer to the cockpit rim that'll be helpful go ahead and get it on the back first and then pull on the skirt making sure that you've got it good on the back of the skirt go ahead and get our thumbs in flip this loop back sit back straighten arms and then sit forward and let our core do the work go ahead and drop that over the top knead it around the sides we want to make sure that the handle is out for your access point here if you happen to get your head and shoulders over the water you might find yourself upside down in the water if that happens try not to panic you can find this handle by going down the coaming it'll be at the end there or you can reach right forward if you know where it is go ahead and push it forward and then pull and that'll release the skirt and you can come right out of the boat all right guys that's how we put a skirt on and get ready to paddle out I've got my paddle here in hand let's go paddle [Music]
