the prophet jeremiah and the chapter was 31 in the words of my father-in-law i shall belong of course he would also say long is a rep as a relative just depends on how you define law but in my estimation i will not belong tonight and i just want to continue with our series of studies jeremiah 31 beginning in verse number 31 and i will culminate in verse 34 and much of our uh exposition will come from verse 34 after a while the text says in jeremiah chapter 31 verse 31-34 behold the days come save the lord that i will make a new covenant with the house of israel and with the house of judah not according to the covenant that i made with their fathers in the day that i took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of egypt which my covenant they break although i was a husband unto them saith the lord but this shall be the covenant that i will make with the house of israel after those days say of the lord i will put my law in their inward parts and write it in their hearts and i will be their god and they shall be my people and they shall teach no more every man his neighbor and every man is brother saying know the lord for they shall all know me from the least of them unto the greatest in them sayeth the lord that's going to be important in a few minutes four i will forgive their iniquity and i will remember their sin no more is that in your bible we have begun a series of studies uh under the heading the distinctive nature of the new testament church that's what we started yesterday and if you're taking notes we indicated to you that there are and there are five stages of biblical church history i say biblical church history when i say biblical church history i'm talking about the church as it is recorded in the bible the word of god has five biblical stages of history and i gave them to you yesterday i said number one when you're speaking about the church you can speak about it in reference to the church in purpose that is god purposed the church in his mind before the foundation of the world number two you can speak about the church in prophecy that means the prophets foretold what was going to take place in regards to the establishment and spread of the new testament church you can find that in the prophets number three you will find that you can speak about the church in preparation that is john the baptist ministry was designed to prepare the way of the lord and then you can speak about the church in promise jesus said upon this rock i will build my church promise and then you can speak about the church in perfection that is not perfection in the sense of sinlessness but perfection in the sense of the completion of god's plan to establish the new testament church which took place on the day of pentecost so you can speak about the church in all five of those stages of history and i would have been happy to know that last night we told you that a lot of folk don't understand the church because they don't know how it's defined and last night we defined the church for you because you will never know how to find the church if you don't know what you're looking for and the only way to know what you're looking for is to properly define what the church is what is the church it is the ecclesia of god it is god's called out a symbol there and when we say it's god's called out assembly it implies that if there's an assembly there was a calling in order to assemble people there must be a calling or a submerged and that summons is the gospel of jesus christ now when god sends out the gospel that's how god is calling and when a man answers the calling he becomes a member of the call if you want to be in god's called out assembly you've got to answer the call of the gospel now i've come today to tell you and to take the position emphatically that nobody can answer god's calling without obeying the gospel of jesus christ there is no way to get in god's call down assembly without obedience to the gospel because your salvation has nothing to do with what you feel that y'all gonna help you know i said because your feelings will trick you if you ain't careful but we got a lot of folk following what they feel and when you follow what you feel you can end up in the wrong place or in the wrong thing uh some folk have ended up in bad relationships because of what they felt i don't have time before that you can't say amen to that because you might be sitting next to the person right now but but you can be in a situation that you don't need to be in and you got it not because of your feelings you got to be careful about your feelings and so you need to know it's not about feeling the truth a man's got to know the truth and the truth will set that man free and if you want to be in god's church you'll get in when you answer the calling of the gospel of jesus christ well how do you answer that calling brother haywood you'll answer that calling by hearing the gospel believing it to be true repenting of sin confessing jesus christ and then being baptized for the remission of sins jesus put it best when he said he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved and that's how a man answers the cause it's really not difficult so we defined it yesterday what's the definition of the church it is god's called out assembly that's what it is so if you're looking for a church and you're trying to look for it on the basis of a building you're looking for the wrong thing looking for the wrong thing because the church is not a building and i want to tell you a church can meet under a tree and it would still be the church of christ it ain't about the building now there's nothing wrong with having nice facilities i'm not doubting that i'm just saying nice facilities does not make a religious group the church of christ it doesn't make it the church that jesus built and i told you only yes today that it's not about the social entities that the church may have it's not about whether or not a church got a good youth program wow it would be nice for a church to have a good youth program you can have a great youth program and it's still not the church jesus bill are y'all following what i'm saying well well we're praising well at that church they got hospitals that's wonderful that they got hospitals but that don't make up the church that jesus bill that doesn't make it the truth well they got a wonderful basketball team but the ymca got good basketball teams the church is god's call out assembly and i emphasize that because if you're not careful we will forget what makes us the church of christ you gotta remember what man i'm not in some form i know some folk don't like this some preachers don't like this because everybody is into uh the social relevance movement and i understand i'm not against being relevant and i'm not against having outreach programs i'm not against none of that but that doesn't make us the church what makes you the church is the fact that you have been called out by god and you accepted that calling when you obey the gospel of jesus christ that's what makes you the church i got finally what i'm saying so you got to understand that up front because there's a lot of people that look at the denominational world and they see 15 000 20 000 members and they think somehow that means they must be god's people i don't mean they're god's people you may have 20 000 lost people in that place they are going to help me longer but the numbers don't make it what don't make it right majority don't make nothing right they got 20 000 folks oh my god wow that's wonderful but that don't make them the church jesus are y'all finding what i'm saying so you got to get your mind right when it comes to chris people get caught up in the glitch and glamour of religion and you'll miss jesus all together because you get caught up in them numbers let me tell you something according to god's standard a 10 member church of christ is larger than a 20 000 member church that's full of lost people they missed it i know 10 save for in god's standards is more than a religious organization full of twenty thousand because in biblical standards that's not the church right y'all not saying it boy y'all something else but that's all right it's right here a 15-member church of same people is big bling please larger than a 2500 member organization biblically larger according to god's standards are y'all finally what i'm saying but ain't getting hard and full but if they all them folk joining i know that's the problem they're joining there but god's gonna hatch you over here because that's dark standard you don't grow if we ain't baptizing folk for the remission of sins so you don't want to get caught up in all that stuff and you don't want to let that blind you from what really makes us who we are are y'all finally what i'm saying and that's not downing numbers and tell us what we again and we have if we get a 20 000 member church of christ wonderful great that is powerful and i believe we can i believe if we preach the gospel it is purity without fear or favor the church would grow oh i believe i believe that man i believe that with all my heart because you can't tell me listen the checks began with about three thousand members in one day so i saw hey against numbers it's just saying if you're here looking for a church don't think you found the right church because they got a lot of fun here's my second point for tonight this is part two god's uh people the church is not only defined as god's called out assembly but it is also defined as god's covenant people hear me kevin a man is not in the church until he gets in covenant when a man obeys the terms of the covenant is then that he enters into relationship with god thereby becoming a member of the church jesus bent the church that jesus built is a covenant people and if you want to be in the church you must obey the terms of the covenant i got finally what i'm saying tonight that's what i plan to prove to you god's people are covenant people that's what we are we're covering people and if you want to be in god's covenant you have to obey the terms of the covenant when you read the terms of the covenant you become a member of the church so let me prove that now in jeremiah 31 what you find is that and i don't have time to go through the historical context except to tell you that the book of jeremiah is a book that declares to us the apostasy of israel israel in their idolatrous practices was going to be punished by god and not only would they be punished by god but he would allow foreign nations to take them into captivity and one of the nations that will take them into captivity is babylon and that all of that is prophesied in the book of jeremiah but god was showing the people of israel that because of your apostasy because of your unfaithful next the days are going to come when i will make a new covenant now if you really want some backdrop on that just in your leisure read jeremiah 11 and god will indicate that the man that does not keep his covenant is christ and he's sowing israel you have not kept my covenant and therefore the days are going to come when i will make a new covenant not according to the ones that i made with your father but this will be a new covenant in which god was going to remove the old covenant and if a man wanted to come into relationship with god he had to meet the terms of the new covenant when i say new covenant uh i'm speaking of the more excuse me the old covenant is speaking of the mosaic law the law that god gave for my son i was the old covenant now naturally in the days of jeremiah it wasn't the old covenant it was just the covenant but it became oh when god gave us a new one now y'all funny what i'm saying but in that day it was just the covenant but god said i'm going to make a new covenant now i want you to see how that covenant came into effect and it's going to give you some understanding of how the new covenant is going to go into effect now here's what i'm going to tell you then i'm going to tell you that i'm going to tell you on the shade of blood it is radicalized by the shedding of blood god gave them laws for my son now and those laws were referred to as the covenant in exodus 24 we'll get there in a minute god through moses will shed blood to ratify and put the covenant into effect because the covenant will not go into effect until there is death y'all stay with me no death no covenant there must be the same uplift and that will ratify another covenant so what you gotta understand is when god gives that law he's gonna give it to israel and he will ratify it by the setting of now let's prove all of that i want to let's get some of this give me exodus chapter 19 exodus chapter 19 and begin with verse number four i want to show you that that covenant was going to make israel certain things and that covenant was going to be rather packed by blood and i'll prove it in just a moment and exodus chapter 19 and verse four what does it say yes see what i did until the egyptians a covenant is my agreement all right a covenant is a contract between two people that's what a covenant is now there are unilateral covenants and there are uh conditional covenants i don't want to get into the different kinds of covenants except to tell you this covenant was an agreement between god and israel now watch what this covenant would do read then you shall be a peculiar treasure you keep my covenant you will be a peculiar underlapper you'll be a peculiar treachery above all people above all people for all the earth is mine all the earth is mad read and you shall be unto me and you shall be undermanned a kingdom of priests not only would they be a peculiar treasure they would also be a king a priest another way of saying kingdom of priests would be a royal priesthood oh yes i'm coming for you i'm going to come in there just a minute you see that if they keep the company back cause the covenant is to make them a peculiar treasure a kingdom of priests go ahead rape and a holy nation and it would also make them a holy nation this covenant would make them so distinct that they would be god's peculiar people god's holy nature god's royal priesthood if they obey the terms of the covenant are you finding that so far now there'll be no covenant if there's not the shedding of blood give me exodus chapter 24. i praise god and just in case you don't know what i'm doing in the lord's church we don't just draw the dots we connect the dots praise god see we connect the dots i wish i had some time to talk about uh forget it that's all some things i don't need to say i'm trying to learn that because see that's because you you can't really do effective exposition if you can't show how the verses of the bible harmonize into one complete message now now in exodus chapter 24 start with verse number four exodus 24 uh and start with verse four what does it say and moses wrote all the words of the lord yeah and rose up early in the morning and builded an altar unto the hill yeah and twelve pillars uh-huh according to the twelve tribes of israel go ahead and he said young men are the children of israel which offered burnt offerings yeah and sacrificed peace offerings and moses took half of the blood he took half of the blood and put it in basement put it in basin and half of the blood half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar they sprinkled on the altar and he took the book of the covenant and he took the book of the covenant and read in the audience right into the audience of the people and they said hey they said what all the lord has said all that the lord said we will do we are going to do it and be obedient moses took the blood and he took the blood and sprinkled it on the people sprinkled it on the people said behold and sent behold behold the blood of the covenant behold this is the blood of the covenant are y'all reading this it's the blood of the covenant this blood is designed to ratify the new agreement between god and israel are y'all saying this god gives the laws and he said if you obey the lord here's what you'll be a peculiar people holy nation kingdom of priests and then god took some blood through the sacrifices and ratifies the mosaic covenant are you seeing what just happened now israel is going to break that company israel will become idolatrous israel will become unfaithful and it became so unfaithful that god had one prophet write a book and marry a heart and he said marry the heart because i need you to feel what it's like for somebody to be so unfaithful to love them so good but they don't love you back so god made hosea go and get a prostitute marry that woman and then he said now you understand how i feel about my people i give them all the love but they don't love me back i'm faithful to them but they're not faithful back i want you to see what it's like to be the hospitals for the wife but all she does is chase other lovers god got so upset he said hosea now walk a mile in my shoes see what it's like to love somebody that won't be faithful god sees that israel is breaking their covenant and the day came when god said i will make a new i said i gotta make a new one i'm gonna make a only am i going to make new covenant covenant i want you to understand this new covenant if there's going to be one it's got to first be ratified by somebody because god can't make a new covenant unless some blood has got to be straight and if there's the shedding of blood if there is blood that indicates death that god can ratify a new covenant now give me matthew 26 matthew 26 verse number 28 i want you to see god got him some blood he got him some sinless blood he got in some blood that didn't have no spot and no wrinkle he got him some blood that's not like us it's the kind of blood that's absolutely pure because god's got to make him a new covenant now watch for matthew 26 jesus got something to say what does the bible say for this is my blood of the new testament read which is which is set for many for the remission called the remission of sin when jesus sheds his blood when jesus dies he's gonna ratify a brand new covenant i know he did it give me hebrews chapter 9 hebrews chapter 9 and verse number 15 because god said i've got to make me a new agreement now in hebrews chapter 9 and verse 15 what does the bible say and for this cause this cause is the mediator of the new testament and by means of the by means of death is let me tell you who jesus is jesus is the one who wrote up the wick jesus rolled up the wind but the will ain't gonna go into effect until the testator dies because while the testator is alive he can give his inheritance any way he wants to but when the testator dies the only way you get what the testing has is you got to get it according to the terms of the testament because the testator is no longer here but his death puts the testament into effect which means if a man wants god's inheritance he's got to obey the terms of the testament and that testament went into effect when the testator died on the cross this is how i know you can't be saved like the thief on the cross and say i know you can't be saved like the thief on the cross a lot of people say i'm saved like the thief no you ain't no you ain't neither see the thief was told while jesus was alive today you'll be with me in paradise so the thief was able to get to paradise but he got there on the basis of jesus being alive but after jesus dies you can't be saved like no faith now you get to jesus and his inheritance by obeying his covenant and then get up to make sure the will goes so if you want to be saved today you got to be saved according to the terms of the covenant all right you know this for some religious folk be careful now watch it you might be visiting i want you to be clear you are saved by the blood of jesus but not until you've been you obey the terms of the covenant you see there's a lot of religion get all messed up with this i'm saved by the blood if you church of christ folk don't believe you saved by the blood yes we do believe that you can't be saved no other way said by the blood we don't deny salvation by the too much scripture that says be saved by the blood of jesus in whom we have redemption the forgiveness of sins through his blood jesus said this is my blood of the new testament as a matter of fact i heard john on the isle of patmos start giving god praise because of the blood of jesus christ we don't deny the blood of jesus can't you hear john on the isle of patmos what he said i saw in the right hand of him that sat on the torah are written on the back side within and then the bible says that there was an angel a strong angel that came from the east but the bible says who shall open the book and he said no man was found in heaven nor in earth that was able to open the book neither to look there on and one of the angels saith unto me we are not behold the lion seven spirits of god sent into all the earth and he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that summoned the throne and the four beasts and the foreign twenty elders fell down before him having every one of them parks and golden vines full of apples which are the prayers of the saints and but you don't contact the blood until you obey the terms of the covenant because his blood ratified a new agreement and if you want the benefits of his blood then you've got to obey the terms now you follow what i'm saying listen if salvation was only by blood and ain't nothing you got to do then everybody is safe even the folk that don't believe in jesus are safe if all it takes is the blood of jesus but the bible says the grace of god has appeared to all me teaching them to deny unknown that is now the grace of god has appeared to all men but all men are not saved i know that because paul said my heart's desire and prayer for israel is that they might be saved so although jesus died on the cross and made salvation available that doesn't mean you have it until you obey the terms of his covenant now y'all follow what i'm saying and there are terms all right let me show you what those turns out there are terms of the covenant and that covenant goes into a fact after jesus dies and specifically in the city of jerusalem on the day of pentecost that's the covenant and you need to obey that covenant and i don't know who i'm talking to in this place but when the bible says a new covenant that old covenant was the most saiyan war and nobody today is obligated to keep the mosaic law we are not justified by that law we're not under that law we're not under that covenant that's how i know i don't have to keep the sabbath i say that's why i don't have to keep this up like i said that's why i don't have to keep this happening i have not afford a lot of savage friends who think that you got to keep this up you ain't got to keep those seven days having wrong covenant that covenant what that sabbath was under the old covenant it's not under the new covenant and there's not one verse in the new testament that says remember the sabbath to keep it old that command ain't no way end up in the new testament you know why because it ain't in jesus new covenant and i have another thing folk who claim to keep the sabbath don't really keep it going no no nobody keeps the saddle like they did in the bible because see if you broke the cell what's supposed to happen is you supposed to die without mercy there was a man in numbers 15 who was just picking up sticks on his shelf god said put them to death now if we keep in the sabbath law not only do you have to keep the sabbath but you got to keep the penalty question when members of some day adventist churches who claim to keep the sabbath my question is what do you do to the members when they break it now now usually when i bring this up they start chasing after grace no no no under the old covenant if you break the sabbath the bible says they die without mercy i've come today lord we're not under that law and you need to thank god do you not understand you didn't thank god united we are under the law of grace and so you need to understand we're in a new company y'all everybody got that problem if you want to be in the lord's church then you've got to obey the terms of the covenant come back to jeremiah 31 come back to jeremiah 31 come back to jeremiah 31 and let's look inside jeremiah 31 verse 31 jeremiah and i'm almost finished jeremiah 31 verse 31 because i got to show you how to get in covenant with god all right now in general and it's so potent man i'ma tell you you know you have to study the scripture and then and when you study it and then and it hits you like an epiphany like oh i got it man that's one of the most beautiful feelings in the world when you study a text and then through time and time and time you finally say all i see what god is saying watch this thing it's beautiful jeremiah 31 31 start with 34 what does it say behold the days come save the lord that i will make a new covenant with the house i will make a new covenant with the house of israel with the house of jesus not according to the covenant not according to the covenant that took them by the hand all right this covenant will not be like the one i made with your father that's not like mosaic law but this shall be the covenant that i will make this shall be the covenant that i'm going to explain this company it's really going to explain the nature of this covenant watch read after those days saith the lord i will put my law in their inward part rather than put it on two tables of stone i'ma put the law in their hearts he's really drawing a between the mosaic law and the covenant law this one i'm gonna put it on the heart which simply means that salvation will come by education nobody can be in covenant with god and not have the law put on their hearts and i'll get to that just a minute but not on two tables of stone i'm gonna write this law on their inward parts and in their mind and will be their god i'll be their god and they shall be my people now now the ones who got the law written on their hearts i'm gonna be their god they're gonna be my people watch this now read and they shall teach no more every man his neighbor greet and every man his brother's saying know the lord yeah for they shall all know me from the least of them unto the greatest stop listen carefully in this covenant they will say no more they'll teach no more know the lord that's confusing if you're not careful it'll almost sound like in the new covenant we're not supposed to teach nobody that's not what it means here's what it means in the old covenant a gene was born into covenant with god and then later had to learn to know him a jew because he was in god's people and the people of god was god's people based on the fact that that was that chosen nation as soon as a baby was born a jew he's already a covenant but he doesn't know god he's got to learn who god is as he develops and they had to teach men to know god because a person who was a jew was born and y'all are not saying that okay let's prove this back give me genesis 17 quickly i didn't want to do all this this is the lord jesus genesis 17 10. give me jesus i want to show you abraham's prosperity which would develop into israel if they didn't get circumcised they brought the covenant you can't break a covenant that you're not in as soon as they're born they're incumbent and eight days later have to get circumcised as a symbol of the covenant and if they don't do it they have broken the covenant which means when a jew was born he was born in covenant because if he didn't get circumcised he broke the cup now let's just get first look at verse 10 read this is my covenant is my covenant which you shall keep what you shall keep between me and you and thy seed after thee re every man child among you shall be circumcised free and you shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you re and he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you watch this now every man child in your generations he that is born in the house or bought with money of any stranger which is not of thy seed he that is born in the house re and he that is bought with thy money go ahead and read must these be circumcised three and my covenant shall be in your flesh read for an everlasting covenant and the uncircumcised man child re whose flesh of his foreskin is not took himself if it's not circumcised that soul shall be cut off that soul shall be cut off from his people he had broken my covenant style and that baby was born he was born in covenant and eight days later i had to be circumcised if it didn't happen the bible says they brought the covenant and you can't break a cup and that you ain't in and you're probably what i'm saying now when you look at jeremiah the book of jeremiah verse 31 says they will teach no more every man is never saying no god why he said because in this covenant they will all know me all right from the least to the greatest that means no man can get in covenant with god and not know god contrast you've got to and no god the hebrew word for no here is to be in relationship no man can because the jew born into relationship born into covenant with god had no relationship with god because he had no knowledge of god in this covenant they were oh no there's no such thing as a man being in covenant with god and he don't have a relationship not in this country they'll all know me from the least to top greatest the question is how why will they all know me read the text now go back to verse 34. i need y'all to read verse 34. they shall teach no more every man his name and every man his brother's saying yeah know the lord yeah for they shall all know me yeah from the least of them and to the greatest of them now watch this say if the lord for i will fall ready too fast they shall all know me from the least to the greatest faith the lord reap foreign now that word fall is now expressing how they will know him okay they will all know me from the least of the greatest thing the lord for what you're going to do god i will do what forgive their iniquity the way of man comes into knowing god is when god forgives his iniquity when a man forgets has his iniquities forgiven that's how he knows god and that's how he enters into covenant with god because nobody can be in covenant and not know god and you can't know god if your sins ain't been forgiven so when your sins get forgiven you then know god and when you know god you obey him covenant with god which means the terms of having your sins forgiven become the terms of entering into covenant if i can know if i know and if i can show you how a man is forgiven i've also shown you how he enters covenant and he enters covenant by knowing god and he can't know god until his sins are forgiven so if i can find out how many sins are forgiven you know how to enter covenant with god and then you know who are the members of the new testament church now let me get my acts chapter two let's go to the hub of the bible hop in the bible in verse 37 this is the first gospel sermon preached here is peter preaching the first gospel sermon and guess what he's going to tell him how to do he's going to tell him how to get forgiven and when he tells them how to get forgiven they will enter into covenant with god because then they will know who god is they'll have a relationship are you following this all right let's get this thing done all right verse 37 says what now when they heard that when they heard this in their heart and senator peter said the rest of the apocalypse man and brother what shall we do then peter said unto them and you shall receive the gift of the holy ghost their lies whatever it takes to get forgiveness is what it takes to enter covenant when you enter covenant you then know god that is you have a relationship with god and that's what makes you a member of the church and i know she praise god and i know i know i know when a man enters covenant with god guess what he'll be give me first peter tonight i almost forgot that point that would have been detrimental to the whole side y'all shouldn't let me forget that first peter 2 9. here it is when you went there because remember in exodus 19 if israel was in covenant with god what were they holy nation kingdom of priests are y'all following what i'm saying all of this stuff you got to remember when you get in covenant here's what you are now the new testament church when a man gets in covenant and he's in the church that jesus built here's what he is first peter 29 says what but you are a chosen generation but let me just tell you what it means chosen generation okay that word generation and boy if we ever get this in the lord's church it'll change the dynamic of the church it literally translates a chosen race the church is a brand new race made up of all races god said you want to know what i did the old race was the jews but the new race is jew and gentile there's neither jew nor greek in this race paul nor free in this race if male or female in this race we are all one in christ jesus see the church is a new race and it's a new race in the sense that you and gentile have come together that means in the church it should be a place where race doesn't matter and it ain't got nothing to do with your ethnicity but that's the thing all right it's a chosen generation read a royal priesthood told you in the new testament church when you ain't coming in with god you're a royal priesthood breathe and holy nation oh holy nation free and peculiar people that's what you are when you're getting coveted you become what israel lost you become what israel lost now in acts 2 it says you want to know how you get in covenant get forgiveness how do you do it repent change your mind and be baptized be verse every one of you got to do the same thing in the name of jesus in this text is by the authority of jesus and then it says the remission of sins that is an altar to obtain the remission of sin now i want to make this a uh four year means in order to obtain which means baptism is essential because baptism is in order to obtain remission of sin now you'll follow what i'm saying baptism is not something you do because you are saved you do it to be safe are y'all saying that it's the term of the company and you can't get it covered with god if you don't get baptized and you're gonna get baptized for the right reason for the remission of sin and not only that you got to know what you're being baptized for there's a lot of folk and we got some issues in the lord's church we got some folk that want to accept baptism from other religions when they have not been properly taught and they don't even know what they was baptized for but before man can get baptized he must first know why he's getting baptized peter said repent and be baptized and then in verse 41 it says then they that gladly receive his wife you can't get baptized until you receive the word you're here tonight you need to get that time amen for what father my mission to see you see uh for the remission of sins now let me clarify some stuff as i close when you get baptized the reason the purpose for repentance and baptism that your sins are cleansed because of the death of jesus but you don't get the benefits of that death which is forgiveness until you meet the term of the covenant which is repentance and baptism baptism is essential because it's a condition of the covenant and you must do it in order to obtain remission but never think that you've got remission because the water dead god forgives sin when you get baptized but god does the forgiving not the water why do you bring that up because if you not care for the lord's church we'll give people the impression that we believe in baptismal regeneration now that's a catholic doctrine and catholics think that there is inherent power in the water itself we don't believe well i don't want to say we don't believe because you might believe it the bible doesn't teach that there's anything in the world god said dip seven times and your leprosy will be forgiven there was nothing in that nasty way that could heal a man from leprosy god was going to heal naaman when he met the condition that god stated are you following what i'm saying it's not the water it's when you obey what god said and if god said be baptized for the remission of sins just be glad he didn't say gasoline break now you gotta meet the condition that god states get baptized and repent because those are conditions that must be met because they are the terms by which a man gets forgiveness so you've got to be baptized baptism is essential to salvation but what gets me a little frustrated is when we try to tell the truth the wrong way and in the lord's church we've got to be careful with how we explain what we say so people don't get the impression that we think is something magical ain't never been no blood in that one that would be nasty i'm trying to help y'all while i'm helping some folk outside the church there's no blood in the water when we say we're saved by the blood we mean we're saved by the death of jesus that's what we mean without the shedding of blood there's no remission of sin just said to me without the death of jesus there would be no remission of sin but we ain't putting no blood water ain't no blood in there why are you getting baptized because god made it a condition to receive what the blood made available now y'all follow what i'm saying now if you're here tonight don't leave here not in covenant because if you leave here not in covenant you're not in the church you
