today I'm going to be opening up a box of gemstones and rough specimens and things like that that they came from a collection from my grandparents who are rock hounds so everything in this box it's been pretty much untouched for the last 50 years or so so it's kind of a bit of a mystery box we're gonna open it up and see what we seal boys thinking out and do my best to explain what I think each item is but I don't know for sure on everything so we'll take a look good tripod set this books is labeled doesn't I'll bet that this is a Clear Lake County diamond my grandparents lived in LA we get to focus Clear Lake County is just about six hours north of there so you could buy there they're actually quartz and then they're cut and they called him Clear Lake County diamonds my wife and I went up there and looked for me you'd find them in the dirt roads very very crystal watery clear of course specimens old pharmacy box diversity we miss Dave looks like a pitcher I don't know what these are are they nuts that all right this is another pieces is probably something that my grandpa made for my grandma a little pendant here Luke's like probably a Montana sapphire focus there goes Montana's that poppers or something you could mine out there and go out there and find them in their version often times they would have a gift shop where you buy stones that are already cut where you could send the stones out to a cutter and have them cut and then you have some little pendant settings you could I think this is just a glass egg but it could be obsidian Morgan course points Moses have all that you've actually collected to stuff themselves okay this Fe is labeled this garnet in real Creek Idaho 1979 another garnet also a public this invitation this is says to the Kois little tiny turquoise chunks let's say we're probably from the southwest now these I actually do know what they are these are Montana sapphires that they mined that's my own handwriting because gene G since Berkeley my grandpa I they gave me some of theirs they're rough pebbles and I had them cut and then I sent them these stones as fast as stones from what they've done and they kept them in there just like this okay this is another says 8 by 11 leave this is probably another Clear Lake County diamond and it's not a real diamond it's actually quartz but that's what they called them Wake County is just north of the Bay Area very nice quartz though stones here I'm seeing maybe some rough Ruby here this could be a piece of tourmaline there's some quartz this would be might find a peg of my vein they're gonna have all sorts of different materials quartz quartz bunch of random stuff most of it's just best grade for doing anything with but it's a lot of fun together hey there we go this says sapphire mmm Montana yeah Montana sapphire there's some rough sapphires around the edges here this is a quartz specimen um Quartzsite Arizona so they very well could have bought this but now so good about it at the quartzite Jimmy mineral show happens every year to Big Show I don't know if you can mine courts in that oh yeah this says crypts and but you know it actually looks like gypsum I think that was probably a type of one I guess yeah typewriter unless somebody else knows or something called crypts um um I've got rather than does that add you would call right from Switzerland I don't think they ever went to switch limbs but they could have ordered a meal this looks like a chunk of marble this whole bunch of rough sapphire each one of these stones is probably between half to carat to a carrot or so which means and when cut they'll make pretty small stones this actually really pretty from Baja California okay cornucopia of all sorts of stuff you got chunk of stone with black tourmaline really that looks like it's not really a poisoned something else is small black tourmaline lots of chunks this is moonstone so probably moonstones yeah there's a pretty clear they kind of look more like quartz to me but I'm still kind of coming this is a baguette a lot of places people will find agate and think it's moonstone but they're actually not moonstone Easter egg it's very similar so specific coast so yeah there's actually a couple beaches here and specifically you can find agates I gotta get each Cal Sidonie or chalcedony depend on how you like to pronounce it rose California the chalcedony rose it has a marble pattern in it it looks kind of rosy and the target see out but it's a very slight pink I've no idea what this is whatever it is this ginormous could be lemon quartz could be glass until it's not sparkling enough to be anything super rare like a sapphire but it's definitely very pretty I know my grandpa did some faceting I don't know if you faceted this a particular piece but it's still very nice I can test it later you figure out exactly what it is I'm lucky it's something like golden barrel topaz there's junk on my bowl yes it's like an agate probably goes right there petrified wood but you know that they collected quite a big picture about what's his gas price from Arizona if you had a stump you funny I'm not going back at her house it was probably - maybe a thousand pounds that we thought about trying to move I think somebody actually managed to move it from their house to their own house after my grandparents passed away okay it looks like Humboldt quartz pieces that gets things like that and stuff you could find them beach riverbeds okay is a big one so I got all kinds of things Galena fluorite garnet or payment Utah those done brought a crow site she liked Ruby that's this one right here it's in it was dumb copper there's native copper from Arizona that's where things also found in Michigan a lot to Chris appraised from Australia semi translucent turquoise right here amethyst that's a natural em at this point they focus again they actually grow that way in this point they're not cut by hand tell Sydney this is malachite s best dose so much of that stuff pyrite black site I'm not sure if I'm pronouncing that right Cal say I'm sure some people correct me let me go light appetite that's that other one looks fasted again it actually grows naturally that way these are all-natural specimens they haven't been altered Kerr night borax or California probably comes from Kern California don't tell me mica this is actually very very thin and the last one is topaz natural piece of topaz right there this is turquoise some folks in lake okaro might call this a better site because it's a green variety the turquoise it's more green than there's teal there's a lot of white marbling in it I'd probably call it variscite some people can get really picky about what exact name your turquoise what morning it came from that's what the thing you don't know it's better just to call it turquoise and not anything special about it okay this is Jasper looks like it's missing a piece Pacific coast Jasper's fairly common you can get more rare Jasper's from certain areas like babies or picture jasper okay this looks like rose quartz it's a big specimen not not huge from Brazil rose quartz is fairly common it's not hard to find big specimens of rose quartz another Malakai specimen in africa 19 you wonder if that's how much it cost chrysocolla is a green part right there globe Arizona topper war that's right topper is actually what gives chrysocolla its green color same from malachite it's copper because it is painkiller these are some raw agate from the William it to River I'm not sure where that is probably somewhere in the western United States damn at this that's why I'm at this point Mexico getting towards into the box this is quartz from Joshua tree that's in Southern California yeah variety of different shapes you have a natural point just kind of a slab here this is a cluster okay this is a collection of thing your three continents collection top variety of different things here what you read we got here ruby and zoisite this case the letters the ruby ring is the suicide that the sulfur air this is a really bright big dogs doing here old inspired from Mexico Sapphire almost bordering on rubies kind of a purplish color Jim all right this is quartz there's all points I'm Josh swifty this looks like a piece of Jasper that point right here this is tumbling please tourmaline Paula I think that's the Paula mine these are all natural rough pink tourmaline any of these actually didn't upgrade you could probably cut this to get a nice clean faceted stone or said it way it is it's not labeled that tiger's eye or another minnows releasing that remember what it's called okay or payment okay this year or from Utah I'm sure what the oil is used for usually always like that they're pouring some other mineral out of them stone okay last few pieces this is a little garnet go off for something that don't cut right there slightly polished and that's that's everything well don't be enjoyed as much as I did
