lamb and his bride has prepared herself she has been given the fineness of pure fine linen to wear for the fine linen represents the good deeds of god's holy people and this my time my wife serena be seated good morning church my name is garrison from the campus ministry and it is my honor today to lead us in prayer so if you will let us go to god in prayer dear god thank you so much for bringing all of us here today to attend the service together and worship you truly it is a privilege for us to be able to meet up in church or watch the service life online you have really shown us that there is always a way to connect with you and it is up to us to seek you with all our hearts i also want to pray that you continue to watch over and protect us as the covic cases are steadily rising help us to control the situation and keep the virus at bay for those that may have been affected by the virus may you give the families and themselves the support and the strength to find you even in the toughest of times thank you for always being with us god as we go through the revival lessons help us to be more surrendered and understand where we have been lacking as disciples so that we can experience a revival and find our love for you again help us to be more intentional in everything that we do whether it is spending time with others attending service or doing out quiet times let nothing become a mindless habit but have the intention to draw nearer to you god and call others higher to you as well you have seen where we are lacking and send disciples to share your word so do help us to see and hear you as trunim shares his sermon later may you give him strength and speak your wisdom god help us to open up our hearts as well and practice what we learn from the sermon so that we can continue to grow as disciples finally as yuki shares a communion as well help us to really connect with her sharing and remember how much you have truly sacrificed to us thank you god for giving us the chance to leave again for your sake we surrender ourselves and trust everything in your hands we love you in jesus name amen now yuki will be sharing her communion but before she share if she comes in front to share the communion i'll be reading a passage from matthew 7 verse 13 to 14 in the amplified version it reads enter through the narrow gate for white is the gate and broad and easy to travel is the path that leads the way to destruction and eternal loss and there are many who enter through it but small is the gate and narrow and difficult to travel is the path that leads the way to everlasting life and there are few who find it yuki please hello okay uh thanks garrison um good morning everyone my name is yuki and i'm from the campus ministry it is an absolute honor today to be able to share my thoughts on the cross yeah so as i was thinking and praying on what to share for this communion the communion scripture that garrison shared kept popping into my head and it was as if god was asking me to think more and talk about it as i reflected on this verse i asked myself two questions so what does this verse mean to me and which path am i working on now so uh i feel that my spiritual journey this past four years especially in the pandemic has been relatively easy and carefree not because i'm in christ but because i may not have watched carefully the path that i've been walking on i gotta admit that i catch myself walking on the broad and easy path i have not been looking to jesus as much in my day-to-day life as i would love to and this verse has convicted me to change in fact i have let my guard down and have stopped guarding my own heart as if it was a well spring of life like what proverbs 4 23 says the recent focus on renewal and repentance has been a wake-up call that repentance is and will be a continual journey for me as a disciple it is something that i have to be constantly watchful about because there are temptations at every corner like what battle 7 states the path to destruction and eternal loss is an easy journey whereas the path that leads to everlasting life can be narrow and difficult as much as jesus prepares his followers that the path to god will have its hurdles he also promises in john 10 10 that he has come so that we may have a full life and not forgetting in matthew 11 28 jesus says that his yoke is easy and his burden is light i believe that renewal starts from ourselves and in my case myself for the longest time repentance has always been a daunting and scary thing to think about the idea of bearing on my sins scares me it makes me feel weak and frail but this time around we are reminded that repentance is all about metanoia a change in heart repentance is renewal and i'm convicted that repentance can be refreshing i was able to share some of my struggles with one of my closest friends and putting this since the light actually took a wit off my shoulder i need to take charge of my own spiritual journey if i want to end up helping others and myself see god the way the bible says and reach the destination of heaven at the end of the day i am accountable for my own path of decisions responses and actions before god jesus reminds his followers that the path to eternal life will not be all rosy and perhaps even filled with persecutions yet if we are in him our lives can be lived our life can be lived in the fullness and our perspective in facing these trials can help us feel that his joke is easy and light i am still on the journey of deepening the understanding of how living in him can take away any awareness that i may face i am grateful that god gives me time to learn and change again and again i'm grateful for his grace for giving us chances to keep realigning ourselves to him so as we take the bread and wine today i hope that we can all remind ourselves that our journey ahead as we live on on earth may not be easy but our god promises a full life for us and he wants us to walk with him every step of the way he is quick to forgive and embraces us we need to desire to [Music] be in the right path and be in him as his burden and yoke is easy and light thank you now let's pray for the communion dear god thank you so much for bringing yugi up today to share her powerful message help us to be surrendered and take it in wholeheartedly and meditate on the cross so that we may remember how much you have truly sacrificed to us your love and mercy is endless and we are forever grateful thank you so much for everything that you've done lord for us in jesus name i pray amen [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] amen thank you very much garrison and yuki for leading us in prayer and also communion it's always good to be able to see the younger generation come up and uh sharing and praying um what is really in their hearts to god as well today we are also going to have a younger preacher and his chunlim is going to come and preach the word of god amen but before that let's have one more song to welcome him and we are going to sing what can wash away my sin [Music] let us stand [Music] what can wash away my sin nothing but the blood of jesus [Music] [Applause] [Music] of jesus [Music] is [Music] i know [Music] nothing but the blood of jesus [Music] precious [Music] makes me [Music] oh jesus [Music] jesus [Music] oh jesus [Music] [Applause] oh precious [Music] amen please be seated thank you so much for coming together this morning thank you for the songs worshipped him the songs really touched my heart this morning as i hear this song indeed jesus blood has cleansed my sins and today is a privilege for me to be here to preach the word so before i begin let us pray father we are so grateful to be here this morning your your grace um your grace have save us god we come before you as a broken souls father um but you have uh you're the one who has made us up father you're the one who has healed our wounds you are the ones who have put us together god that today we are able to come before you because of your son jesus father we pray today as uh as we hear words god we pray father that your spirit will will touch our hearts father western our hearts father and convict us in ways that only you and we know father that we know that is from you father i pray god that you be with me and help me to speak your words bless the time ahead god and all these we commit in jesus name amen this week our team is on congregational revival as i think about congregational the church immediately comes my mind we know that the church is not the building but a group of people who wants to follow jesus and revival talks about something that is dead and we need to bring it life to life again so congregational revival is a very serious topic and when i realized that i need to preach about this i really fear because it means that i have to talk about what is dead in the church and who likes to talk about what is there it is easier to talk about myself easier to talk about my ministry and it gets harder as as i think about the church a wider even bigger group of people because i do not know every single part of the church well enough my hope and prayer is that at the end of my sermon that the holy spirit speaks to each and every one of you in your mind and in your heart about what congregational revival it's all about amen the title of my sermon today it's about oneness in god i would like us to turn to john chapter 17 verse 20-23 this will be our main passage for today verse 20 it reads my prayer is not just for them alone i pray also for those who believe in me through their message that all of them may be one father just as you are in me and i am in you may they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me i have given them the glory that you gave me that they may be one as we are one i in them and you in me so that they may be brought to complete unity then the world will know that you have sent me and i've loved them even as you have loved me this is a part of jesus prayer just before his death and resurrection this part of jesus prayer is first specifically for future believers as we read in verse 20. he prayed for those who believe in him through their message wow the son of god prayed for me isn't that amazing god prayed for us but it is also scary to think that jesus will pray for us because that means that he is going to pray for something that is going to be uncertain and difficult let's ponder for a moment what things will jesus pray for us will he pray for us to be to stand firm in our faith pray for us to know him more pray for us to love god more i think these things are important for us to grow in but if you read in verse 21 that all of them may be one just as you are in me and i am in you and he prayed that we will be in them jesus and the father jesus prayed for us the church to be one just like him and the father and also for us to be in them this is oneness in god on high side i know why jesus prayed for that that time with different factions in the church like the jews and the gentiles the freedmen and the slaves and later on with different false teachings coming in and different preferences for leaders the least just goes on it is easy for the church to be divided using my humanistic limited wisdom i try to come up with a diagram to visualize this i try to think who is in who is the father in jesus or the jesus in the father or are we in the father or jesus and are we in the father and jesus or is the father and the jesus in us it can get really a bit confusing if you read those few verses again and again i realized that i tried to think of it think of this as a hierarchy way but it is not like that here although the father is greater than jesus and jesus is greater than us but jesus prayed that we will be one with him and the father and our relationships within ourselves to reflect that of the father and the son we not i are in one with god let's continue to explore this oneness in god when we think about oneness it is not uncommon to see different organizations or movements in the world being one to achieve what they want together a basketball team need to work together closely together to win the game a company needs everyone to be on board to give their best for the company's vision and mission all like i have a picture which i'm sorry for those who are here you can't see it it's a formula one team working together to achieve the shortest pit stop timing to help the team to win in the race so what is the difference for a church look into the verses in john 17 21 and 23 may they also be in us and i in them and you which is the father in me the difference is jesus is in the church and my first point for today is i in them where i is jesus and them is the church the bible has described jesus relationship with the church as his own body let's look in ephesians chapter 5 verse 29. in ephesians chapter 20 chapter 5 verse 29 after all no one ever hated their body but they feed and care for their body just as christ does the church for we are members of his body the bible says here that we are the body of christ and jesus take care of us like how we take care of our own body these days i keep having lower back aches after sitting for too long and i have to do something about it because it's affecting me i have to do some stretching to relieve the pain and also i also seek out like some advice from some brothers to how to strengthen my lower back muscles if i'm concerned about the pain in my body will not jesus be concerned about the pain in his body and take care of it how did jesus deal with the pain in his body let's look in isaiah chapter 53 verse 4 to 6. surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering yet we consider him punished by god stricken by him and afflicted but he was pierced for our transgressions he was crushed for iniquities the punishment that brought him peace but brought us peace was on him by his wounds we are healed we all like sheep has gone astray each of us has turned on our own way and the lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all our lord and savior jesus took on our pain and suffering upon himself even when we are still ignorant of what he has done for us he took on our sins our pains our sufferings so that we might find peace and our wounds may be healed this is how he took care of us his body by taking it upon himself i would like to share about my own journey in god i joined a full-time ministry about one and a half years ago and i was really excited to help more people to know jesus and to find the salvation for their souls but this excitement was quickly diminished with the kovic situation and other reasons what was left was disappointment discouragement and disillusion for the months that followed there were much pain and in my pain i often went to god to have times of prayer silence and solitude to find back that peace and healing god spoke the loudest when i was silent i also have many talks with different brothers who are always there to give me a listening ear and to honestly tell me their thoughts about what i was going through which really helps me to see christ-like perspectives and the issues i have in my life in the end i found more than peace and healing but also the root to my pain behind the desire to want to reach out to people was a yearning to be fulfilled by what i do in life my work you see the joy that i often get from helping people has replaced the joy that i should have got from god there was so much pain because i relied on my own strength to find my own fulfillment in life sometimes a good thing in life can replace our utmost devotion and desire for god and when that happens god will reveal that true our pain when we do not get what we want maybe other good things can be like our children our spouses our friendships our careers our health and the least goes on i have sinned against god by being so self-centered reading isaiah 53 it reminds me of the pain that jesus went through for me his wounds i've been healed and i just really want to change my mind and just focus on drawing mirrors to god each day and being joyful and fulfilled in god himself before anything or anyone else brothers and sisters we are all parts of we are all part of christ's body how do we handle our pain and suffering when it comes do we try to shake it off using our own efforts exercising playing games watching some shows try to draw it down with some work or some ways which we think we can overcome by ourselves this is our own way of saving ourselves and not the way that god has in mind for us go to jesus and he will reveal your heart clearly ask him and he will show you maybe you have felt being wrongly accused maybe you felt hurt by someone in your life maybe you felt that things are just not working out in your life or maybe you're just so tired or maybe you're just unsure what to do with your life and every day seems so long go to our savior for help because he has done everything possible for us even giving his own life will he not take care of you but what does this relate to congregational revival when one part of the body suffers the other parts suffer too when i'm down i affect the people around me i spread the negative vibes around with my behavior with my speech i might even end up hurting people that i don't even know sometimes just by my absence i can affect the group where the disciples expected me to be around i need to be certainly more aware of my brothers and sisters around me and they are welfare than just thinking about my own struggles this is not to say that my struggles i keep my struggles to myself but to deal with it in a spiritual and healthy manner to go to jesus to go to my brothers whom i feel safe with and this leads to my second point about being one together my second point is that they may be one as we are one in john 17 21 it reads that all of them may be one father just as you are in me and i am in you verse 22 it reads they that they may be one just as we are one jesus wants us to be one as a church like how he and the father is one what does it mean to be one it means i think it means to be one in heart and mind how can we be one then like how jesus and the father are one to answer that we've got to understand how jesus and the father are one the father loves the son not once but twice we saw in the scriptures that the father says this is a son whom i love with him i'm well pleased and jesus is in complete obedience to the father even to the cross because he loves the father look in 1st john chapter 3 verse 23 to verse 24. and this is his command to believe in the name of his son jesus christ and to love one another as he commanded us the one who keeps god's commands lives in him and he in them and this is how we know he lives in us we know it by the spirit he gave us there are two things mentioned in this passage that we need to do in order to remain in jesus and to be one together to keep his commands to believe in jesus christ to have faith secondly to love one another we need to listen to the spirit which is the one will guide us in all truth last friday ed anton had shared a great deal about how the holy spirit worked in his life and the church that he's in if you have missed that i would strongly encourage you to watch that on youtube earlier on in john 17 22 when jesus says he have given us the glory that the father has given him so that we can be one i see the glory as the spirit that jesus has given us this is also how we know that jesus lives in us we know it by the spirit he gave us we are led by the spirit in our hearts and minds to be one together in jesus and when i try to think about how to describe this the 1st century church comes to my mind in acts 2 let's look at the description of the church they devoted themselves to the apostles teaching to fellowship to the breaking of bread and to prayer everyone was filled with all at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles all the believers were together and have everything in common they sow property and possessions to give to anyone who had need every day they continued to meet together in temple courts they broke bread in their homes and they act together with glad and sincere hearts praising god and enjoying the favor of all the people and the lord added to the number daily those who are being saved what does it take for people to share everything they had what does it take for them to meet up every day didn't they have jobs i learned that some of them were farmers were traders were slaves or fishermen and blacksmiths what caught my attention is that they not only meet at homes but also in temple courts i suppose they meet at temple courts to listen to the apostles teachings and to pray together while at homes they have great fellowship and breaking of bread and also prayer it seems to me that they will take every opportunity to meet up because they wanted to exercise their love for one another i see that as an expression of immense love for each other and something that is not out of obligation but out of love of obedience of what jesus has commanded them this is like how jesus is also in love with the father and obey him completely out of love let's look at another description in acts 4. in verse 31 to verse 32 after they prayed the place where they were meeting was shaken and they were all filled with the holy spirit and spoke the word of god boldly all the believers were one in the heart am i no one claimed that any of their possessions was their own but they shed everything they had we definitely cannot ignore this is the work of the holy spirit that is working in the midst of the disciples the proof of the holy spirit dwelling in them is the love they have for each other the glory of what jesus gave them is now the manifestation of god in the midst through the holy spirit the disciples in the first century church were filled with the holy spirit and the church looks like as if there is one man as there is one mind and one heart and that person is jesus what does that mean for us today i think i just really took face to face meet up for granted in the past and when the measure set in since last year it really took a hit on me as i felt so isolated at home and the online meetings and spend times were really weird for me and not as engaging there was so much frustration and concern about the church as well that we are no longer meeting up in the building what takes what does it take for us to be one then it takes faith in jesus to explore new ways of loving and staying connected with one another and i believe the holy spirit promise and convict our hearts to do this one couple i really felt so inspired by is you hua and jun in the midst of their own trials in life with uh facing job uncertainties and june facing new challenges at work as a moe teacher and nuhua's mom coming in and out of the hospital throughout these past one and a half years this couple just kept loving and giving to the people around them throughout this period they've been trying to meet yes been still trying to meet their mentees online in different ways and cooking sending food to different disciples consistently having disciples from different ministry and also their son's friends over to the house for meals and fellowship when the measures are lightened and i know june still help with the chinese ministry in translation all this reminds me of not loving with just words or speech but in action and in truth zoom has been one of the most common ways now to connect i often feel like doing zoom is like having a long distance relationship those that you have no choice but you do long distance calls for closer and more intimate face to face meet up than on zoom but with different concerns and considerations zoom to me is like what we say in hokkien it means is the least way you could stay connected i also see zoom has opened up a new channel to connect to disciples who are overseas here i want to appreciate a brother who is impolite his name is jarvis he stays in jurong and whenever the measures are lightened and i'll sometimes have polite disciples coming to my house in senkang for fellowship whenever i ask javis he will come traveling three hours on the train when i asked him yesterday bro you know isn't it easier for you to just zoom since we have that option too i can totally understand if he wants to do that he told me that no it's better for him to be in person easier for him to focus on the fellowship i'm blown away he told me that his time on the train is not wasted as he will do some stuff on the train and i'm like wow our time and energy has always been a precious community and giving that shows much love illogical actions like what javis did just makes people think deeper why we try so hard to connect better love have always been inconvenient think about what jesus has went through on the cross and you know what i mean i believe that even on zoom if we are there because we want to love each other and give to each other it will look and feel different the atmosphere and the warmth will be different and that is what i hear about the weekly polite discussion after sunday service which started a bit awkwardly but now discussions are becoming more warm vulnerable and genuine and amen to that i honestly do not have the intent to cause anyone here to go on a guilt trip my concern is those who have been in fact trying so hard to love and feels condemned by what i say and those who actually can love more in their ways but they're not thinking deeper about their convictions about church brothers and sisters this point is simple the culture of love jesus love will look different in our time and age we can all love in different ways and some of us who has concerns because of kovic maybe because of health conditions vulnerable family members let's be creative and be uninhabited and be led by the spirit the holy spirit will direct that in our lives as we obey jesus to continue to put our faith in him and to love one another like how he has loved us when we do this more and more the church will become more and more like jesus and this leads to my third point which is my final point my third and last point for today is about making jesus known to the world the bible reads in john 17 in the later part of verse 21 may they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me in verse 23b then the world will know that you have sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me jesus prayed that our oneness in him and the father will make him known to the world when i look at the book of acts the church's love and unity shocked the world around them the disciples were so selfless that they shed everything they had they gave up their houses or land to give to the needy led by the spirit they preached the gospel wherever they went even in the midst of persecution there is stefan in acts 7 who just preached the word to the sanhedrin and got stoned to death our oneness in god is not without effect it will make jesus known to the world when we are one as a church and one in god together we will glorify god together the world will see that this is not just a human movement but it is a movement by an unseen god by the holy spirit that moves so powerfully in our midst you see when someone decides to love we can say that it is his or her soul decision when a family of five decides to love we can say it's driven by the parents when two families decide to love we can say that it's friendship but when you have a large group of people with different backgrounds who decides to love is no longer about individual decisions but about the holy spirit that is convicting and stirring the hearts to abide in jesus maybe when our family and friends see that kind of love joy peace we have in the midst of this pandemic they will know that it is not pahi or anyone but god working in our midst if we were to be one with god here on earth then we will be able to help the world know jesus and the father's love that is jesus purpose on earth to be a ransom for many and to seek and save the loss in this world we are like jesus i was discouraged for a while when i was trying to reach out to some family and friends during this period of time i was meeting them and trying to get them to know more disciples but it was a tough time for everyone and due to the various reasons it was difficult to meet up consistently together with other disciples where is the church there is no more building to go to now how will these unbelievers come to know god who cannot be seen if they do not experience the love of god through the church i know some of us are trying hard and and people around you know that jesus is in you and you are in jesus i pray that we continue to hold on to faith and to have to have that love for the people around us and be led by the spirit and as more and more of us change we will reflect god's glory and be on be like jesus on this earth as i was reading about christian's revival in recent history the awards revival in 1904 to o5 really caught my attention as it mirrors the start of the church in acts 2. here is a short summary of what happened it was plainly evident now to everyone that god has answered the agonizing prayers of his people and has sent a mighty spiritual upheaval a sense of the lord's presence was everywhere his presence was felt in the homes on the streets in the mines factories and schools and even in the drinking saloons so great was his presence felt that even the places of amusement and carousel became places of holy all many were the instances of men entering taverns ordering drinks and turning on their heels leaving them untouched wheels up to this time was in a grip of football fever where ten thousands of working-class men talked and thought about only one thing they gamble also on the result of the game now the famous football players themselves got converted and joined the open air street meetings to testify what glorious things the lord has done for them many of the teams were disbanded as the players got converted and the stadiums were empty a quote by the past by the name of a pastor the quote of pastor by the name of g campbell morgan who lived those times and experienced a revival said this let no man hear of what happened in wheels and try to start in his own land why because no man started it in wheels we cannot produce revival we can only pray that god will be gracious to us and send it in abundance i cannot help but agree with his statement only god can produce a congregational revival by sending his spirit upon us to stir our hearts to move our hearts to be on our knees more to go to him in prayer to love the way his son jesus has loved us then the world will know jesus and the love that the father has for them let us pray dear father we come before you to pray that he help us to be one in you we pray that god will help us to turn from our ways which often which we often inflicted so much pain on ourselves we pray that we turn to jesus who heal us we pray that god you help us to grow in our love for you and to obey you by putting faith in your son jesus and to love one another like how you love your son and how you have loved us may your spirit convict us and may us be lead by our spirit so that we remain in you thank you so much for hearing our prayers and we pray all these your most precious son jesus christ amen amen thank you so much for just sharing your heart and i'm personally convicted about the fact that um to ask this question is god enough for me and i'm oh i am replacing it with other things that really feel uh my existence is more important or one i think is important and sometimes we can get carried away with the things that we want and what we want to feel versus what god wants us to have as we look at the scriptures acts 2 i'm also reminded about just what discipleship is all about and every single time when i deal with ministry i go to a new ministry i always look at x2 as an example but it's so different when we want to leave out x2 where they come together rejoicing breaking of bread forgiving each other loving one another and a genuine love and friendship got to be practiced that to me is a tall call and a challenge as we come together i think the only way is to look at jesus and how he has sacrificed for us to be in groups to love one another and to share that love out and radiate out to others thank you so much for just reminding us again that jesus is enough for us and to love like jesus did you know as we move towards a revival i really appreciate you uh yuki reminded us about repentance is about refreshing it's refreshing it's not just having a burden and just going on a guilt tripped and just really be punitive to ourselves because if god can forgive me i can definitely forgive myself and move on and not just take it for granted but to rejoice as we come in small groups to start this revival all over again thank you so much for all the people that contributed to the service today at this small time we're going to take up a collection from the poor can have the slides as you can see the snipes all this collection will be given to the jesus forgive us of our sins i remember when i studied the bible it's so clear that i need to repent not because of those people who has given me enough trouble in my life or they have forgiven me that's why i need to forgive i need to forgive because that's discipleship and it's so easy for me to forgot forget about just the fact that i'm forgiven and i need to really learn to love and as we have blessed father we come to you father to think about jobs and to think about the ability to follow god to continue to earn a living and to ability to give that into me is a blessing it's a blessing from you as we open our hearts to give i pray that father god that we give because we're thinking about those people who are receiving it i pray for the families who are right now struggling during the covet situation i pray that god that you give them hope the little help that we give father god will really mean a long way to them i pray for those brothers and sisters from around the world who are struggling with health issues and also father who needed our prayers i pray for them to be in a better place i pray for all those the the the country in afghanistan and all those people
