[Music] George was definitely a king different to his grandfather whose George II came before him who I think was definitely someone who wrote in the sort of the Pomp and the power George III my George was definitely someone who fought against that all he wants to do is study the stars and Escape into the stars and he feels like through the Stars he can get a scale of how meaningless he is which is actually for him an incredible escape and and break from the pressure of the role I remember shooting the wedding day scene and everyone stands up and is very very respectful to me and weird feeling for me I've never had you know all I did was turn around and suddenly nearly 300 people are standing up and bowing to me but actually as George he's not someone that Revels in that and actually he thinks why why are you all why are you all doing that I'm no different you know and and he doesn't want to be any different he wants to just work on the land really [Music] foreign being a mother then is very different to being a mother today the whole thing about a mother was the fact that you know you secured the crowd you secured your lineage so if you had daughters Sons preferably Sons then that means that you would keep your lineage because he would be king so you're safe you're safe as well as long as your children you know progress in that respect that means you still have a very solid position in society so she's not a nurturing mother in that respect she's much more of a mother who's advancing her child's progress you know through the system doesn't mean that she doesn't love him it's just that she has other priorities so many people's relationships with their mothers are very very complicated in many ways lots of people have very easy relationships but at the core of it is always a child or in my case a boy who wants to be loved by his mother and I think that has often been Complicated by the duty of the crown and the weight that that bears down on someone and his illness and how unwell he's been and I think that's why his relationship with Charlotte is so poignant and Powerful because it's so new to him that acceptance that you should get in the form of uh sort of maternal unconditional love [Music] [Music] we talk about the void of Acceptance in his relationship with his mother and it's just completely the opposite with Reynolds I think a big part of the reason that George isn't just a blob on the floor is because of the support that he's had Reynolds knows George's Secrets George knows Reynolds secrets and uh they don't care they just love each other for a few years Reynolds has been looking after King George he's very secure in his job he knows exactly what he's doing he knows how to look after the king he knows the king's secrets and he's the only person arguably that knows how to deal with them he's looking after a king with a crippling mental health disorder that and trying to keep that a secret and at the same time maintain this this facade of well-being of prestige and all of a sudden the King's life changes through marriage and therefore Reynolds job becomes a lot harder because he has to maintain this secret he has to help the king sort of maintain this facade while at the same time maintaining reynolds's facade but actually often there's stuff you know bubbling where the back of his mind going his job's okay or what's Augusta said to said to George now what you know what what's about to happen in George's life that I need to be there for and I need to protect him I see you I see you there at the beginning George is sort of shocked by Charlotte he's used to being courted by women that have been brought up to be a potential match for the king and a sort of repetitive falling over him not necessarily because of him but because of the status because of the role with Charlotte he finds a woman completely on the other end of the spectrum who's literally trying to escape him and everything that he represents and the throne and the crown and being King the interaction that they have in that short space of time is unlike anything that he's ever had it's almost like a glitch in the matrix it's like something that short circuits almost a repetitive monotony of interactions and relationships that he's had because suddenly he's finding himself with someone who has also been burdened by incredible responsibility I truly believe that George never really wanted a queen never really wanted a wife until Charlotte came along [Music] for both of them it's the first time that they've met someone that's so similar in that way and I think that that really is the thing that makes them fall in love so instantly throughout the series there's trials and and tribulations and Charlotte's dealing with the newness of her role as queen and the restrictions and constraints that come with that and George is dealing with all of his secrets and feeding like as soon as she knows that he will be completely Unworthy of her love almost like Icarus you know he's flying too close to the Sun and that wax does eventually melt but then the most amazing thing is that she sees him and unlike his mother who wants him to have this torturous treatment she would prefer him to be happy and loves him for who he is which is something that that he's he's never been graced with he accepts this very free rebellious independent young Spirit you know and I think both of them have that and that's what keeps them almost like you know two stars that are pulled in by each other's gravity you know it's like is it going to explode is you know but they are they are pulled it I couldn't have hoped for a better uh through fellow classmates wow if I could have thought to myself a year ago that I'd be part of a show like this set in a world like this set in a time like this that would delve into that issue and that that little idea there and and that bit of romance and be as sexy and Saucy as it is as well you know I wouldn't believe that that show existed so it I mean it's what a pleasure and as an actor it's like I get to go from there to there to there to there to there to there you know and I'm not saying that any of it's perfect by any means but it's a brilliant chance to learn and to grow and you know push myself and yeah feel very grateful very grateful [Music]
